Abstract:In order to adapt to increase of the image compression processing in current sensor networks,presents a low storage discrete wavelet transform(DWT) VLSI architecture.Around us scattered all kinds of image acquisition devices,including monitor,computer,mobile video cameras,and growing demand for image precision is higher and higher,which make traditional image compression software processing speed gradually unable to meet the people's needs,so it is necessary to consider using hardware processing to accelerate.Wavelet transform is often used for image compression,while the use of 5/3 lifting wavelet technology to implement hardware is relatively easy.In order to reduce on chip storage of hardware,through special scheduling operations mode to carry out parallel computing of row and column to effectively reduce on-chip storage demand.After RTL-level simulation and synthesized by SMIC 0.18 μm process,the results show that the scheduling method saves cache unit significantly,and with 100 MHz clock,it ensures fast processing on high-definition(HD) images,and meets needs of image compression decoding in current sensor network.

Abstract:In order to adapt to the current high-definition multi-gray level display and on-chip low memory requirements,a high efficiency and low storage DWT VLSI architecture is presented.A parallel structure with pipeline mechanism is constructed,to improve the utilization of the hardware.And because both of the integer(include the sign bit) and fractional parts of wavelet coefficients are presented by 16 bits,the design can support the needs of 1023 classes(10 bits) gray value and higher accuracy.After RTL-level simulation and synthesized by SMIC.18um process,the results show that the use of the decomposition of the 9/7 filter with 5 lever is able to perform compression of 1024 * 1024*10 images with the speed of 65 frames per second at 100MHZ clock.

Abstract:The very-long-instruction-word architecture is widely used for DSP. In AVS coding process, the prediction residual and integer DCT are frequently called and the methods of optimizing the loops are significant for reducing coding time. Based on the VLIW character, the paper analyzes the optimization methods to accelerate the speed of prediction residual and integer DCT. The AVS prediction residual and integer DCT modules are optimized and simulated on the platform of TMS320DM6446. The experiments show that the instruction cycles are reduced by about 71% and 60% for prediction residual and 8 Ã 8 integer DCT separately.

Abstract:This paper illustrates the implementation of a new low memory image zerotree coding algorithm using the DSP chip. Some key issues on how to implement the burdensome and complicated algorithm are thoroughly discussed, such as the choice of the wavelet filter, the optimization of the program structure, the simplification of the zerotree sean, and the confirmation of the error digit value in the new algorithm. Extensive experiments show that the implementation not only meets the real time requirement of video coding but also performs better than JPEG-the conventional coding standard, so is a feasible and efficient DSP solution.

Abstract:To display real-time images in the medical ultrasound imaging, the system must be designed to meet the critical time demand for the data process that specially comes to be a key technology problem in the color doppler imaging. As the MTI filter and autocorrelation are major algorithms in the color flow mapping, their arithmetic operation amount is evaluated in this paper with the implementing on TI's DSPs. The different architectures of the C62x and C64x are considered in the optimization and two schemes are achieved with the performance beyond the standard of advanced systems.

Abstract:The optimal VLSI architecture and algorithm for computing lifting based wavelet is presented. For the (5, 3) filter, the division by four or by two is implemented with look-up table (LUT). But for the (9, 7) filter, the operation is more complex. We present the fragment look-up table algorithm implements the multipliers. The algorithm can reuse the small memory to realize high precision for the multipliers (scaling by K or 1/K). Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed approach is effective in reduce chip size and power consume. The algorithm is also simpler and faster, and can he implemented easily for SOC integration.

Abstract:The structure of a low-power 16 bit by 8 bit two's complement multiplier unit in the design of a DSP (digital signal processor) chip was proposed based on standard cell. The multiplier used modified Booth's algorithm to generate the partial products, a Wallace tree structure to achieve the high-speed partial products addition, and finally, a high speed carry lookahead adder to finish the carry propagation. The delay of the carry propagation plays a very important role in the whole delay of the multiplier. To solve this problem, the LRCF (left-to-right-carry-free) algorithm was applied to complete the MSB (most significant bits) result calculation partially parallel with the Wallace tree addition. The power consumption distribution within this multiplier was analyzed and some methods were applied to reduce the switching activity of the Wallace tree structure to reduce the power consumption. Based on the UMC 0.18 μm CMOS technology standard cell library, the reports of Design Power showed that the multiplier can achieve the speed of 2.80 ns, an average dynamic power dissipation of 0.089 mW/MHz at 1.62 V and 125°C.

Abstract:Among all algorithms based on wavelet transform and zerotree quantization, Said and Pearlman's (1996) set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) algorithm is well-known for its simplicity and efficiency. This paper deals with the real-time implementation of SPIHT algorithm using DSP chip. In order to facilitate the implementation and improve the codec's performance, some relative issues are thoroughly discussed, such as the optimization of program structure to speed up the wavelet decomposition. SPIHT's high memory requirement is a major drawback for hardware implementation. In this paper, we modify the original SPIHT algorithm by presenting two new concepts-number of error bits and absolute zerotree. Consequently, the memory cost is significantly reduced. We also introduce a new method to control the coding process by number of error bits. Our experimental results show that the implementation meets common requirement of real-time video coding and is proven to be a practical and efficient DSP solution.

Abstract:The article summarizes the theory of standard image compression,especially focuses on the feasibility and method that TMS320VC5409 is used in the image compression system.What's more,based on the image compression system,a fast DCT image compression method and an adaptive JPEG quantification way are proposed in terms of the attribute of the TMS320VC5409 DSP chip.The realization and application of the image compression system shows the proposed method runs faster and gets higher quality of image than the standard JPEG compression method at the same compression rate.

Abstract:The Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) is the basis for many image compression techniques, such as JPEG2000, MPEG-4, etc. The Spatial Combinative Lifting Algorithm (SCLA) based 2-D DWT/IDWT requires fewer computations than the conventional Lifting Based Implementation (LBI). In comparison with the LBI, SCLA with the 9/7 filter has 7/12 the number of multiplications. This paper proposes a novel VLSI architecture to compute multilevel SCLA based 2-D DWT/IDWT with the 9/7 filter. The line based transform is integrated with the SCLA scheme to reduce the hardware cost and achieve higher hardware utilization. Efficient organization of six line-buffer memories is used to address the high memory bandwidth requirements. This architecture can be used as a compact and efficient core for JPEG2000 VLSI implementation and various real-time image/video applications.

Abstract:Digital signal is a function of time, which is some physical quantities long with time transformation, and the original signal is decomposed into a series of approximate component and details component by wavelet analysis. The wavelet transform is used in digital signal processing for simulation in MATLAB platform, and giving an example analysis. The result shows that the choice of suitable wavelet function makes the least amount of calculation, the high detection performance and the strong function. Wavelet transform in digital signal processing has a broad prospect of application.

Abstract:This paper proposes an efficient and simple architecture for 9/7 discrete wavelet transform based on distributed arithmetic. To derive new proposed architecture, we consider the periodicity and symmetry of DWT to optimize the performance and reduce the computational redundancy. The inner product of coefficient matrix of DWT is distributed over the input by careful analysis of input, output and coefficient word lengths. In the coefficient matrix, linear maps are used to assign the necessary computation to processing elements in space domain. Moreover, the proposed architecture has regular data flow, and low control complexity. The result is a low hardware complexity DWT processor for 9/7 transforms, which allows two times faster clock than the direct implementation. This design is very suitable for image compression systems, e.g., JPEG2000 and MPEG4

Abstract:Being a powerful signal processing tool, the wavelet/wavelet packet transform is being used in more and more research areas. Therefore its hardware implementation is being paid more attention to. Based on its use in speech coding, a VLSI architecture for 1-D discrete wavelet/wavelet packet transform is presented. Unlike the existed solutions, this architecture can be used for wavelets with different support length, for data segments with different length, and for different decomposition level. It has the features of flexibility and programmability, and is suitable to be implemented as a on-chip transform unit for many systems, and can also be implemented as a single chip.

Abstract:Arithmetic coding-decoding is an efficient method to compress and decompress symbols of unequal probability.However,it takes the DSP much time on calculating and forces the DSP to burden large amount of jumping operation for which the pipeline architecture of DSP is not suitable.An improved method is proposed to realize arithmetic coding and decoding.Querying the table,the DSP not only reduces the amount of judgment and jumping operation but also saves the calculation time.This improved method also reduces the hardware requirement of DSP and makes DSP easier to fulfill the arithmetic coding-decoding.

Abstract:This paper presents an optimized implementation of the FDK algorithm on a single fixed-point TMS320C6455 digital signal processor (DSP). Software pipelining and proper configuration of the data transfer enables a 2563 volume to be reconstructed in about 42 seconds from 360 projections with very good accuracy. This implementation reveals the potential of modern high-performance DSPs in accelerating image reconstruction, especially when cost and power consumption are emphasized.

Abstract:A general method for TMS320VC54x and CPLD to acquire and compress images is presented, the design of image compression system and key techniques are described. It combines the code algorithm with the feature of pipeline to optimize the software program. Design result shows that: (1) the architecture can meet requirements of low bitrate digital video communication systems; (2) the system has a practical value in digital video surveillance for the devices.

Abstract:A lifting-based architecture is introduced, which considers coherence and resource reuse between DWT and entropy-coding unit with pipelining between them. The architecture shows higher stable speed and better flexibility. Different wavelet filters can be selected according to different applications. The number of decompositions and data extension can be configured. Moreover, finite precision analysis is carried out and the bit width of data path is decided. The architecture has been implemented in RTL-Level Verilog. Estimated gates of our processed architecture in SIMC 0.18-μm technology are 6600 and the estimated frequency of operation is 300 MHz. The proposed architecture was implemented in Xilinx XC2V2000 FPGA. Additionally, comparison was carried out between our architecture and related one, showing that our architecture has better performance in flexibility and maximum processing speed.

Abstract:The Wavelet Transform is a kind of new transform method developing recently, its key feature is to stand out some aspects of object sufficiently through transformation. So the wavelet transform has got successful application in many areas, especially its discrete digital arithmetic gained great achievement in the area of image analysis. But the arithmetic of the wavelet transform is often relatively complex and the processing speed usually becomes the bottleneck which restricts its progress. On the basis of the wavelet transform, the article gave out a wavelet matrix algorithm aiming at digital image, and realized the arithmetic and the process of fast wavelet transform. So it provided an effective theory basis for practical application programme.
