Abstract:Only one third of the world average can be found in the per capita farmland in China. Furthermore, a large number of high-quality cultivated land has been occupied and replaced by low-quality farmland with the continuous development of urbanization in recent years. The unsuitable or uncultivable distribution of farmland in areas（such as beaches and mountains）has posed a serious threat to the national security of farmland. Great challenges have also been put the national food security in the context of emergencies, such as epidemics and disasters. It is a high demand for the high level self-sufficiency in food production under a large population during this time. In this study, a new understanding was offered to protect the farmland system, in order to change the perception from the farmland system to the cultivatable land. The ecological niche model and geographic information system（GIS） were used to measure the scale size and spatial distribution of cultivatable land, current farmland, and construction land. Firstly, the amount of cultivatable land was sufficient with the outstanding difference in spatial distribution. The cultivatable land was sufficient in the east of Chinese Heihe-Tengchongn line, where the area was approximately 2.05 times that of the current farmland. Secondly, there was the uneven quality of current farmland, where the less current farmland was distributed in the highly cultivable areas. There was an outstanding location difference in cultivatable land quality. The cultivatable land showed a hierarchical level in different areas, where the quality gradually decreased from the southeast to the northwest of China. Thirdly, there was a spatial mismatch between the cultivatable land and the current farmland. About 16.83% of the current farmland was in the unsuitable area for cultivation. The current farmland was distributed in the uncultivable areas, where the low quality of farmland led to low production in the essential goal of farmland protection, due to the mismatch between the cultivatable land and current farmland. The proposal of cultivatable land was provided the direction for the transformation of farmland protection. The "grain-land" mismatch rate of farmland also reduced resource consumption and environmental pollution. The cultivatable land grading and zoning protection were carried out to appropriately adjust the layout of current and new farmland, in order to realize the fertile land for grain use and storage. At the same time, the protection of cultivatable land can greatly contribute to the cultivatable capacity of the land,in order to avoid the encroachment and squeezing of the cultivatable land, due to urbanization. The retention of enough land can be expected to fully meet the possible future farming needs. Therefore, sufficient cultivatable land can be provided in time for agricultural production.

Abstract:In recent years,as the second largest county of rapeseed production in Yunnan province,Tengchong county had ex-plored"a plowing,two interplanting pattern and three harvest in a year period" high-efficiency cultivation technique under the support of Yunnan modern agriculture rapeseed industry technology system,and the technique had been extended,and the application of the technology has reached a certain scale.In this article,based on the introduction on extension and implemen-tation of the efficient cultivation technique,the economic benefits in 2012 to 2014 were analyzed,and the results showed that its economic benefit was remarkable.Finally,the comprehensive benefits of the technology were evaluated.

Abstract:The high-quality development of the grain industry is a solid foundation for ensuring national food security and comprehensively promoting rural revitalization. The grain industry in Hua County presents the trend of the steady improvement of the comprehensive grain production capacity, the enhancement of the grain processing capacity, the continuous improvement of the level of agricultural mechanization, and the rapid development of the modern seed industry. At the same time, there are also problems such as low grain production efficiency, low degree of grain branding, and low degree of "three-chain isomorphism" in grain industry. In view of the above problems, the countermeasures are mainly proposed from the aspects of farmland infrastructure construction, modern seed industry and agricultural technology service, farmers' interest compensation mechanism, branding and scientific and technological innovation, in order to solve the current prominent contradiction in grain production and provide reference for promoting the high-quality development of grain industry in Hua County.

Abstract:With the continuous improvement of the level of science and technology, agricultural mechanization can rapidly develop and provide strong support for agricultural mechanization. The rapid popularization of agricultural mechanization of grass-roots agricultural development, maximizing the reduction of the degree of labor of farmers, for the high quality of crop production provides the conditions, but also greatly improve the efficiency of agricultural production. This paper analyzes and discusses the main functions of Kailu County Agricultural Machinery Bureau, and learns about the fulfillment of the functions of Kailu County Agricultural Machinery Bureau by means of a questionnaire. It analyzes the existing problems of the main functions of the Kailu County Agricultural Machinery Bureau and discusses the reasons for the problems. Analyze the actual situation of the main functions of the Kailu County Agricultural Machinery Administration, and put forward reasonable countermeasures and suggestions in line with the development of the main functions of the Kailu County Agricultural Machinery Administration.

Abstract:Stable growth in grain production is a critical challenge to ensure food security in North China Plain (NCP), an area dominated by smallholder farming. Food production and security of NCP largely depend on how smallholders farm their land. This study took Ningjin County of the NCP as an example to describe the characteristics of crop planting structure and the changes in crop production based on household surveys, statistics, various documents, and literature by descriptive statistics, calculation of crop self-sufficiency, and curve fitting, and aimed to reveal crop security and the influencing factors of crop production at the household level. The results were as follows: (1) Wheat and maize sown area accounted for 61.69% and 47.96% of the total sown area of crops during 2000–2020, increasing at a rate of 3.42% and 5.93%, respectively. Their planted areas increased from 27.52% and 15.54% in 2000 to 47.82% and 44.75% in 2020, respectively. (2) The self-sufficiency rate of maize showed a significant upward trend and reached its peak in 2019. the self-sufficiency rate of wheat also showed an increasing trend, from 192.87% to 617.37%, which indicates that wheat and maize can meet food self-sufficiency and the per capita grain yield is in a safe state. (3) The trends on wheat yield and fertilizer initially grew, then decreased, closely resembling an inverted "U", while the maize yield showed a pattern of increasing first and then basically remaining stable, similar to an "S" shape. A turning point for fertilizer use (550 kg/ha) was identified, indicating the limits of fertilizer use to increase yield. The national agricultural production and environmental protection policies, continuous improvement of crop varieties, as well as the farmers' traditional practices have significant impacts on crop production. This study will enhance management practices for improved yield, which can support the integrated management of agricultural production in intensive agricultural areas.

Abstract:Through the analysis of the current situation of corn planting, characteristics, and the use of corn fertilizers and pesticides in the South and Southwest regions, as well as the research related to the three different functions (seed, silage, and fresh food) of corn, we analyze the important influencing factors affecting corn yield, and look for a reasonable optimization plan of corn planting for corn planting in Southwest China; the literature study found that: Southwest China's corn planting is mainly located in the karst mountainous areas, with poor production conditions In addition, human-animal and mechanical operations coexist, the comprehensive mechanization level is insufficient, multi-maturity intercropping and stubble net crop replanting, while small farmers and moderate-scale production and management coexist. Lack of mechanization, light and simplified standardized technology and regional technology models that are innovative and can be widely applied on a large scale; more influencing factors affecting the yield of the three different functional maize, mainly varieties, density, water, fertilizer and water-fertilizer inter-cropping, and inter-cropping among nutrients also affects the uptake of goat's milk powder by the plant. Southwest cultivation management mode, through the coordinated management of water and fertilizer, the yield difference of the reduction. Analyze the nutrient uptake pattern of maize with different functions (silage, fresh food), in different growth periods. Abstract:A simulation model was established on the basis of MACROS model and field experimental data, which can well describe the processes of the growth and development of spring corn in different cropping patterns. The influence of sowing time on spring corn of production in the barley-corn-rice cropping system in northern Zhejiang Province was studied using the new model. The results showed the ideal sowing period of spring corn was late March to early April. The density of cropping corn should be reasonably increased, compared to the monocropping corn.

Abstract:Chengde has some unique natural conditions such as perfect natural separation,rich climate types,and so on.And it had been one of the main production base for hybrid seeds of sorghum and maize.But in the Mid-and late 20th century,for a variety of factors,the area of seeds production gradually reduced.In this paper we analyzed a few favorable conditions of Chengde as the base of corn seeds production and the key factors restricting its development.In addition,we aslo proposed the appropriate production scale.In short,reconstruction of the base in Chengde is quite necessary and feasible for promoting the building and management of the base of seeds production to ensure seed security in agricultural production and sustainable and healthy development of seed industry.

Abstract:Farmers are the main land managers, and their production decisions crucially affect crop outputs and farmland preservation. Understanding the motivations and factors underlying farmers' decision making is a fundamental to implementation polices of government. This study analyzed factors that influence farmers' choice of corn reduction under the China's new agriculture policy in the 'Liandaowan' areas of Northeast China. This study collected data from 106 randomly selected households in 34 villages in 'Liandaowan' areas of Northeast China using a semi-structured questionnaire. Results showed that the Chinese corn structural adjustment plan confronted with many constraints, and most of farmers insist on planting corn. Drought and low accumulated temperature, no suitable substitution crop, farmers' preferences, farmers' education and age, relatively high comparative benefit of corn, the availability of machinery and technical assistance, subsidies and low family incomes all influence farmers' choice of corn substitution. Based on our experimental results, we derived important policy implications for promoting corn structural adjustment incorporate increase crop diversity, promote soybean and corn rotation, provide adequate agricultural extension services, and increase the corn substitution subsidies and improve farmers' income.

Abstract:By using regression analysis and prognostic theory,the minimum cropland acreage per capita,and cropland pressure index model were analyzed with the consideration of changes in cropland,population and grain output since enforcement of the reforming policy.The cropland,population,grain output,minimum cropland acreage per capita and cropland pressure index were forecasted for the following 15 years.It was found that between 1978 and 2004 both the cropland and the grain output declined in contrast to the annual population growth,resulting in the rise of minimum cropland acreage per capita and pressure index on cropland,and consequently broadening the gap between the grain supply and need.With the rising population and the obvious decline of cropland acreage per capita in the following 15 years,minimum cropland acreage per capita and pressure index on cropland will also show some degree of decline.However, the boost of cropland productivity is at the cost of over exploitation on the cropland,leaving the grain issue still quite critical.Thus,countermeasures for the reduction of cropland pressure,guarantee of grain output security and sustainable development were proposed in this paper.

Abstract:Agricultural extension officers and agricultural management officers in Longkou City,Shandong Province were surveyed by means of semi-structured interview.Yield limiting factors and technical measures to improved yield were assessed.The main yield limiting factors of wheat were low fertility of cultivars,early sowing date,excessive sowing quantities,and irrational irrigation and nitrogen application.The main technical measures to improve yield of wheat in five years are soil testing,extending improved breed,and returning maize straw to field.The main yield limiting factors of maize were extensive crop management,low sowing quality,and drought.The main technical measures to improve yield of maize in five years are delaying interplant time and adopting varieties that is adapt to the environment.In the long run,to safeguard the continuous improvement of farmers' crop yield calls for the combined action of crop management,suitable varieties,preventive and remedial measures for extreme weather events,and increased food subsides.

Abstract:Lodging in maize is one of the major problems in maize production worldwide. In order to reduce the risk and loss of this disaster, in this study a model for analysis of lodging resistance competitiveness of different maize cultivars in target growing environments was established and seven planting counties in Jilin Province, China were selected as target study areas. Firstly, lodging resistance of a maize cultivar was determined based on frequency distribution analysis using the data of national regional trials for maize cultivars in recent 9 years. Secondly, lodging stress of a planting county was measured based on probability analysis of the stressful extreme wind event in maize vegetative stage using local meteorology data in recent 59 years. Thirdly, a model for comparing different maize cultivars' lodging resistance performance in target growing environments was established combining cultivar's resistance with environmental stress. At last, six new commercial maize cultivars were taken as examples to illustrate the modeling and calculating procedures. The results indicated that different cultivars' lodging resistance competitiveness related not only to each cultivar's lodging resistance characteristic but also to local environmental lodging stress conditions. The provided method for measuring environmental lodging stress and the competitiveness analysis model are very useful, which can facilitate the identification of a better-adapted cultivar for a specific growing environment and precision application of different cultivars with lower lodging risk.

Identification of Maize Yield Trend Patterns in the North China Plain

Abstract:Yield growth stagnation in grain crops has been reported worldwide over recent decades. To understand this recent crop yield trend and its causes in China, we conducted an analysis of maize (Zea mays L.) in the North China Plain (NCP) as a case study. First, we analyzed the change characteristics of maize yield for the whole region during 1998–2015, then identified trend patterns at county level via an approach based mainly on the Mann–Kendall and Sen's slope methods, and finally, analyzed the contribution of major causal factors to maize yield changes based on multiple linear regression (MLR) function. The results indicated that regional mean maize yield in the whole NCP increased by 0.02–2.03% per year before 2011, then declined by—0.83% during 2011–2015. Regionally, maize yield in the southern NCP did not improve greatly; in the north, it increased before 2011, then declined or stagnated thereafter. Only 40 counties showed a continuous increasing trend (IN), whereas 180 counties displayed an increasing–stagnating trend (IN-ST); 52 and 40 counties showed trend patterns of stagnating (ST) and decreasing (DE) in yield, respectively. On the whole, the maize yield in 87.8% of the counties tended to stagnate or even decrease. The reason was mainly attributed to the reduced net returns due to the quickly rising costs of labor and production material. To stimulate yield growth, it is essential to increase the profitability of maize by adopting appropriate policy measures to improve production efficiency.

A Comparative Study of Some Corn Varieties in Xincheng County of Guangxi

Abstract:The present experiment has been conducted to screen some new corn varieties with high yield and resistance suitable for planting in Xincheng county of Guangxi.A comparative test of corn varieties was undertaken in Panshui village,Chengguan town,Xincheng county in 2009.The varieties Zhengda 999,Ruiheng 269,Dika 008,Taipingyang 98 and Nanxiao 201 showed strong growth vigor,high yield and strong resistance to disease,insect and abiotic.These varieties were found suitable for planting widely in Xincheng county.Varieties Ruiheng 666 and Yumeitou 168 performed normally in the field,the increase in yield was not significant as compared to control variety Dika 007.The two varieties affected severely by rice sheath blight disease,and need to be investigated further.Variety Dongdan 80 showed low yield and lesser resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses,and variety Lucheng 133 was characterized by short ear length and low yield,both of these varieties were not suitable for planting in Xincheng county.

Abstract:To meet the food demands of a growing population, the maize production systems deployed by smallholders in China have tended towards extremely intensive planting and excessive use of fertilizers, which have caused serious environmental impacts. This study investigated the balance between the maize yield and nitrogen (N) input in the North China Plain (NCP), which is one of the most important grain-producing region in China. Our study compared yield simulations generated by the DSSAT-CERES-Maize model with actual data from a number of multi-site field experiments and an extensive household surveys encompassing 1671 farmers. The smallholders' maize cultivars, plant population, and amount of N input on the crop yield and how these affects the economic benefits were analyzed. The results showed that the average traditional farming methods' yield was 72% of the attainable yield, which means that farmers have ample room to improve their yields. We also found that the maize yields varied widely between farmers, and that most of them applied excessive amounts of N but failing to achieve an optimal yield due to poor fertilization management techniques. The study found that the economic benefits achieved by the farmers were low, but after deploying high-yield (HY) methods, the yield was increased by 34.9% and the economic benefits by 14.4%. The greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the traditional farming methods were high and could potentially be reduced by 48.6%. All in all, farmers should be given guidance on how to appropriately increase the plant population, reduce the input of N fertilizer, and optimize farmland management measures, so that China can achieve intensive but sustainable agricultural production at a lower environmental cost. It was concluded that there are still numerous biological and abiotic factors that restrict production increases by smallholders. These factors vary from region to region and require further investigation.

Abstract:Cultivated land quality (CLQ) is at the core of the trinity protection of cultivated land in China. Scientific evaluation of CLQ and identification of its obstacle factors are the foundation for the construction and improvement of the quality of cultivated land. The main objective of this study was to evaluate CLQ and identify its obstacle factors, and Quzhou County, an intensive agricultural region in the North China Plain (NCP), was selected as a case study. The evaluation index system of CLQ was constructed based on five dimensions, including climate condition, topographic characteristic, soil property, farming status, and environmental condition, by analyzing the logical evolution of elements, processes, functions, and quality of cultivated land. A methodological system based on the Weighted Summation Method (WSM) and the "1 + X" model was developed to evaluate the CLQ. Then, the obstacle diagnosis model constructed based on the Cask Law and relevant academic studies was used to identify the obstacle factors of CLQ. The results showed that the proportion of high-, medium-, and low-quality cultivated land in Quzhou County was 36.19%, 33.60%, and 30.21%, respectively, and the average grade of CLQ was 2.97, which was considered to be at a medium level. Moran's I of global spatial autocorrelation in Quzhou County was 0.8782, indicating a significant positive autocorrelation of the cultivated land quality index (CLQI). The main obstacle factors of CLQ in Quzhou County were soil profile constitution, irrigation guarantee rate, groundwater depth, and soil microbial biomass carbon. Therefore, based on the stable and dynamic characteristics of the obstacle factors, suggestions were provided to improve the quality of cultivated land in terms of strengthening the consolidation of cultivated land, transforming the concept of agricultural fertilization, and carrying out cultivated land recuperation. This study provides a new perspective on the cognition, evaluation, and identification of obstacle factors of CLQ, and the findings of this study can provide a reference for the consolidation and improvement of CLQ in the NCP.
