Abstract:With the aggravated aging of the population, the incidence and mortality of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures increase significantly and affect many families. Preventing the occurrence and development of osteoporosis may effectively improve the quality of life in the elderly and reduce the economic burden of the family and society. At present, it is found that the occurrence of osteoporosis is closely related to dietary nutrition. Early nutritional intervention may effectively prevent the occurrence of osteoporosis. In this paper, we illustrate the role of protein, calcium and vitamin D supplements in preventing osteoporosis and maintaining bone health, focusing on nutritional intervention studies based on bone mineral density or fracture. The possible mechanisms of nutritional intervention in osteoporosis and bone health are investigated. The importance of nutritional supplement in preventing fracture and maintaining bone health is emphasized.

Abstract:Osteoporosis is a common disease which is caused by a systemic impairment of bone mass and microarchitecture.The disease is likely to occur in the elderly,especially in postmenopausal women.Along with the understanding of the detailed molecular biology of bone cells,the signaling network of the communication between bone-forming osteoblasts and bone-resorbing osteoclasts has been revealed,which has led to the identification of novel therapeutic targets.Novel treatment strategy aims to inhibit excessive bone resorption and increase bone formation.The most promising novel drugs include denosumab(a monoclonal antibody for a key osteoclast cytokine),odanacatib(a specific inhibitor of the osteoclast protease cathepsin K) and two endogenous inhibitors of bone formation(antibodies against the proteins sclerostin and dickkopf-1).This review will discuss the underlying physiology of novel therapies and explore their further applications.

Abstract:Osteoporosis is the most common bone disease in the elderly. Osteoporotic fractures are a principal cause of disability and mortality of the elderly. In 2006,according the epidemiological investigation,69. 44 million people aged 50 and above had osteoporosis and 210 million people had decrease in bone mass in China. Osteoporosis is a " silent" disease that is difficult to detect. Besides agedness,menopause,diseases and drugs,unhealthy lifestyles are also an important factor for osteoporosis. Therefore,early screening and non _ pharmacological intervention for high _ risk population are important measures to prevent osteoporotic fractures. The review introduces the epidemiologic status,common screening tools and preventive methods of osteoporotic,and provides references for community doctors in the early non _ medicine intervention on osteoporosis.

Abstract:The research on the mechanism of preventing and treating osteoporosis has become a widely discussed topic in recent years.We searched relevant literatures in recent years at home and abroad in term of Chinese medicine in the treatment of osteopo-rosis,so as to explore the mechanism of Chinese medicine for the treatment of osteoporosis.Combining the theory of Chinese medi-cine and modern medicine research methods,we founded that the methods of promoting kidney and tonifying bone,invigorating the spleen and stomach,coursing liver qi and resolving depression,activating blood and removing blood stasis based on Chinese medi-cine can influence bone cell proliferation and apoptosis,regulate signal pathway and body hormone levels,improve bone structure so as to achieve the purpose of treating osteoporosis,which provided evidence for the Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

Abstract:Osteoporosis, a chronic metabolic bone disease, has a serious impact on the quality of life of postmenopausal women and elderly men. Its prevalence is on the rise as the population ages worldwide. There are many drawbacks to the current clinical approaches to treatment, and traditional chinese medicine (TCM) has long had a unique advantage in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. As research in the field of ferroptosis continues to intensify, the study of TCM has become a hot area in the treatment of the disease through multimethod interventions for ferroptosis. Based on this, this study searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, CBM, CNKI, WanFang Data, and VIP databases using osteoporosis, TCM, and ferroptosis as keywords. Up to April 2023, research literature on the relationship between TCM, osteoporosis, and ferroptosis was collected. The results found a strong relationship between the main regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis and osteoporosis. TCM methods with good therapeutic effects on osteoporosis, such as Zanthoxylum bungeanum, Curcumae longae, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Astragalus membranaceus, Bushen Huanjing Recipe, and external treatment of TCM, can all achieve interventions on ferroptosis under different pathways. It provides a new theoretical basis and research direction for the future treatment of osteoporosis through multiple methods of TCM to intervene in ferroptosis. Abstract:A metabolic bone disorder called osteoporosis is characterized by decreased bone mass and compromised microarchitecture. This condition can deteriorate bones and raise the risk of fractures. The two main causes of osteoporosis are an increase in osteoclast activity or quantity and a decrease in osteoblast viability. Numerous mechanisms, including estrogen shortage, aging, chemical agents, and decreased mechanical loads, have been linked to osteoporosis. Inflammation and oxidative stress have recently been linked to osteoporosis, according to an increasing number of studies. The two primary medications used to treat osteoporosis at the moment are bisphosphonates and selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). These medications work well for osteoporosis brought on by aging and estrogen deprivation, however, they do not target inflammation and oxidative stress-induced osteoporosis. In addition, these drugs have some limitations that are attributed to various side effects that have not been overcome. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been applied in osteoporosis for many years and has a high safety profile. Therefore, in this review, literature related to botanical drugs that have an effect on inflammation and oxidative stress-induced osteoporosis was searched for. Moreover, the pharmacologically active ingredients of these herbs and the pathways were discussed and may contribute to the discovery of more safe and effective drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis.

Abstract:Numerous studies have examined the pathogenesis of osteoporosis. The causes of osteoporosis include endocrine factors, nutritional status, genetic factors, physical factors, and immune factors. Recent osteoimmunology studies demonstrated that the immune system and immune factors play important regulatory roles in the occurrence of osteoporosis, and people should pay more attention to the relationship between immunity and osteoporosis. Immune and bone cells are located in the bone marrow and share numerous regulatory molecules, signaling molecules, and transcription factors. Abnormal activation of the immune system alters the balance between osteoblasts and osteoclasts, which results in an imbalance of bone remodeling and osteoporosis. The incidence of osteoporosis is also increasing with the aging of China’s population, and traditional Chinese medicine has played a vital role in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis for centuries. Chinese medicinal plants possess unique advantages in the regulation of the immune system and the relationships between osteoporosis and the immune system. In this review, we provide a general overview of Chinese medicinal plants in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, focusing on immunological aspects.

Abstract:Osteoporosis is a bone disease characterized by increasing osseous fragility and fracture due to the reduced bone mass and microstructural degradation. Primary pharmacological strategies for the treatment of osteoporosis, hormone replacement treatment (HRT), and alendronate therapies may produce adverse side-effects and may not be recommended for long-term usage. Some classic and bone-specific natural Chinese medicine are very popularly used to treat osteoporosis and bone fracture effectively in clinical with their potential value in bone growth and development, but with few adverse side-effects. Current evidence suggests that the treatments appear to improve bone metabolism and attenuate the osteoporotic imbalance between bone formation and bone resorption at a cellular level by promoting osteoblast activity and inhibiting the effects of osteoclasts. The valuable therapies might, therefore, provide an effective and safer alternative to primary pharmacological strategies. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to comprehensively review these classic and bone-specific drugs in natural Chinese medicines for the treatment of osteoporosis that had been deeply and definitely studied and reported with both bone formation and antiresorption effects, including Gynochthodes officinalis (F.C.How) Razafim. & B.Bremer (syn. Observation on the therapeutic effect of“treating potential diseases”of the traditional Chinese medicine in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in the community

Abstract:Objective:To explore the effect of the application of“treating potential diseases”of the traditional Chinese medicine for the patients with osteoporosis in the community. Methods:One hundred and ifve cases of patients with osteoporosis in high risk were selected and divided into group A with 52 cases and group B with 51 ones, and one hundred and two patients with osteoporosis were divided into groups A and B with 51 cases each. The group A was intervened with the appropriate method of traditional Chinese medicine according to the syndromes based on the conventional Western medicine treatment. The group B received a conventional treatment. The osteoporosis and the scores of the traditional Chinese medical syndrome of the patients were detected and compared before and after intervention between the groups. Results:T values of osteoporosis in two group A increased more obviously after intervention than before intervention (P<0.05), and as compared with the ones in two group B after intervention, the difference had the statistical significance (P<0.05). The scores of the traditional Chinese medical syndrome in two group A reduced after intervention than before intervention, whose difference had the statistical signiifcance (P<0.01), and as compared with the ones in two group B, the difference had the statistical signiifcance (P<0.01). Conclusion:“Treating potential diseases”of the traditional Chinese medicine has the better effect in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in the community and is worthy of promotion.

Abstract:Osteoporosis characterized by decreased bone density and mass, is a systemic bone disease with the destruction of microstructure and increase in fragility. Osteoporosis is attributed to multiple causes, including aging, inflammation, diabetes mellitus, and other factors induced by the adverse effects of medications. Without treatment, osteoporosis will further progress and bring great trouble to human life. Due to the various causes, the treatment of osteoporosis is mainly aimed at improving bone metabolism, inhibiting bone resorption, and promoting bone formation. Although the currently approved drugs can reduce the risk of fragility fractures in individuals, a single drug has limitations in terms of safety and effectiveness. By contrast, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a characteristic discipline in China, including syndrome differentiation, Chinese medicine prescription, and active ingredients, shows unique advantages in the treatment of osteoporosis and has received attention all over the world. Therefore, this review summarized the pathogenic factors, pathogenesis, therapy limitations, and advantages of TCM, aiming at providing new ideas for the prevention and treatment of OP.

Abstract:Osteoporosis is a public health concern and a cause of bone loss, increased risk of skeletal fracture, and a heavy economic burden. It is common in postmenopausal women and the elderly and is impacted by dietary factors, lifestyle and some secondary factors. Although many drugs are available for the treatment of osteoporosis, these therapies are accompanied by subsequent side effects. Hence, dietary interventions are highly important to prevent osteoporosis. This review was aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the roles of dietary nutrients derived from natural foods and of common dietary patterns in the regulation of osteoporosis. Nutrients from daily diets, such as unsaturated fatty acids, proteins, minerals, peptides, phytoestrogens, and prebiotics, can regulate bone metabolism and reverse bone loss. Meanwhile, these nutrients generally existed in food groups and certain dietary patterns also play critical roles in skeletal health. Appropriate dietary interventions (nutrients and dietary patterns) could be primary and effective strategies to prevent and treat osteoporosis across the lifespan for the consumers and food enterprises.

Abstract:Osteoporosis (OP) is known as a silent disease in which the loss of bone mass and bone density does not cause obvious symptoms, resulting in insufficient treatment and preventive measures. The losses of bone mass and bone density become more severe over time and an only small percentage of patients are diagnosed when OP-related fractures occur. The high disability and mortality rates of OP-related fractures cause great psychological and physical damage and impose a heavy economic burden on individuals and society. Therefore, early intervention and treatment must be emphasized to achieve the overall goal of reducing the fracture risk. Anti-OP drugs are currently divided into three classes: antiresorptive agents, anabolic agents, and drugs with other mechanisms. In this review, research progress related to common anti-OP drugs in these three classes as well as targeted therapies is summarized to help researchers and clinicians understand their mechanisms of action and to promote pharmacological research and novel drug development.

Abstract:Primary osteoporosis is closely linked to hormone deficiency, which disrupts the balance of bone remodeling. It affects postmenopausal women but also significantly impacts older men. Estrogen can promote the production of osteoprotegerin, a decoy receptor for RANKL, thereby preventing RANKL from activating osteoclasts. Furthermore, estrogen promotes osteoblast survival and function via activation of the Wnt signaling pathway. Likewise, androgens play a critical role in bone metabolism, primarily through their conversion to estrogen in men. Estrogen deficiency accelerates bone resorption through a rise in pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α) and RANKL, which promote osteoclastogenesis. In the classic genomic pathway, estrogen binds to estrogen receptors in the cytoplasm, forming a complex that migrates to the nucleus and binds to estrogen response elements on DNA, regulating gene transcription. Androgens can be defined as high-affinity ligands for the androgen receptor; their combination can serve as a ligand-inducible transcription factor. Hormone replacement therapy has shown promise but comes with associated risks and side effects. In contrast, the non-genomic pathway involves rapid signaling cascades initiated at the cell membrane, influencing cellular functions without directly altering gene expression. Therefore, the ligand-independent actions and rapid signaling pathways of estrogen and androgen receptors can be harnessed to develop new drugs that provide bone protection without the side effects of traditional hormone therapies. To manage primary osteoporosis, other pharmacological treatments (bisphosphonates, teriparatide, RANKL inhibitors, sclerostin inhibitors, SERMs, and calcitonin salmon) can ameliorate osteoporosis and improve BMD via actions on different pathways. Non-pharmacological treatments include nutritional support and exercise, as well as the dietary intake of antioxidants and natural products. The current study reviews the processes of bone remodeling, hormone actions, hormone receptor status, and therapeutic targets of primary osteoporosis. However, many detailed cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying primary osteoporosis seem complicated and unexplored and warrant further investigation.

Abstract:With the aggravation of aging in China, the incidence of osteoporosis is increasing rapidly. As one of the three major treatment and prevention methods of osteoporosis, sports therapy is being paid more and more attention and popularized by its reliable, convenient, safe and cheap features. At the same time, sports therapy also has the characteristics of improving the strength of the muscle, balance ability and the quality of life of the elderly population, so it is becoming the most important method to prevent osteoporosis. This paper systematically reviewed the methods, effects and characteristics commonly used in exercise therapy from three aspects: aerobic exercise, resistance exercise and vibration exercise, and compared and summarized the issues. In addition, this paper discussed and summarized the intensity and frequency used in the exercise prevention strategy. At the end of the article, we pointed out the problems that need to be solved in the exercise strategy of osteoporosis prevention, which would be helpful for researchers to further develop their investigations.

Abstract:Osteoporosis is one of the major health problems worldwide. It is characterized by increased bone fragility and loss of bone matter due to the action of osteoclast cells, which are associated with modified hormone levels and factors such as aging. Bisphosphonates are the primary treatment for osteoporosis. Apart from bisphosphonates, hormone therapy, calcitonin treatment, selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), and strontium ranelate (SR) are some of the other treatments available for osteoporosis. However, these treatments have some side effects, such as oily skin, fluid retention, nausea, long-term toxicity, and even prostate cancer in males, and thus natural therapies that incur fewer side effects are sought. Phytochemicals, antioxidants, and other plant-based bioactives are important in the human diet. They are abundant in fruits and help against various chronic diseases, including bone disorders. Other providers of these important compounds are the medicinal plant parts. In this article, we highlight the various species of plants and herbs that are useful for the treatment of osteoporosis. The prospect of using these plant-based bioactives in amelioration of osteoporosis as an alternative to hormonal and synthetic drug-based therapy is also discussed.

Abstract:Abstract: An increasing percentage of people in China are suffering from osteoporosis, particularly postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP), as the country rapidly evolves into an aging culture. Patients with osteoporosis are inclined to endure fractures, as well as deformities and impairments, which drastically decrease people’s quality of life. The benefits of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment have continued to become increasingly apparent as reports of adverse responses to Western medications increased. The main advantage of traditional Chinese medicine treatment is that pharmacological interactions may be employed to lessen adverse effects while increasing therapeutic efficacy. In addition, there are various exercise therapies created by medical doctors in the past generations, such as: Wuqinxi, Taijiquan, Baduanjin, Yijinjing, etc. Chinese medicine and exercise treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis have garnered a lot of attention recently both domestically and internationally, and investigations demonstrate that these therapies have considerable therapeutic effects. The pathophysiology of postmenopausal osteoporosis, advancements of herbal therapy options, and exercise treatment options are all thoroughly addressed in this article.
