Abstract:Objective To investigate the chemical constituents in the stems of Morus nigra. MethodsThe compounds were isolated by column chromatography over silica gel or ODS gel, and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Results Eight compounds were isolated and identified as hydroxyresveratrol (Ⅰ), dihydromorin (Ⅱ), morin (Ⅲ), sanggenol F (Ⅳ), sanggenol H (Ⅴ), 2, 4, 2′, 4′-tetrahydroxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-chalcone (Ⅵ), ursolic acid (Ⅶ), and β-sitosterol (Ⅷ), respectively. Conclusion Compounds Ⅰ-Ⅷ are isolated from this plant for the first time. Some NMR data of compound Ⅵ are assigned correctly by HMQC and HMBC experiments.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents of Acanthopanax senticosus.Methods A.senticosus was extracted with 75% EtOH and separated with petroleum ether and EtOAc,successively.The EtOAc-soluble fraction was isolated by column chromatography and RP-preparative HPLC.Their structures were identified by spectroscopic method(MS,1H-NMR,and 13C-NMR).Results Nineteen compounds were isolated from the EtOAc fraction of A.senticosus and identified as quercetin(1),quercitrin(2),kaempferol(3),hyperoside(4),rutin(5),acacetin(6),daidzin(7),3′-methoxydaidzin(8),puerarin(9),3′-methoxypuerarin(10),4′-methoxypuerarin(11),syringaldehyde(12),syringic acid(13),glucosyringic acid(14),isofraxidin(15),2,3-di(3′,4′-methyl-endioxy-benzyl)-2-buten-4-olide(16),l-sesamin(17),methylpluviatolide(18),and 4′-hydroxy-2′-methoxycinnamaldehyde(19).Conclusion Compounds 6—11,14,16,18,and 19 are isolated from the plants in Acanthopanax(Deche et Planch.) Miq.for the first time.
Extraction, derivatization, and antioxidant activity of Morinda citrifolia polysaccharide

Abstract:AbstractThe polysaccharide from Morinda citrifolia fermentation liquor was extracted by the hot water method. The acetylated polysaccharide, phosphorylated polysaccharide, carboxymethylated polysaccharide, and sulfated polysaccharide were identified by IR and NMR spectra. The results showed that Morinda citrifolia polysaccharide and its derivatives showed the good antioxidant activity, and them up to Vc level. These results provide a good basis for studying the antioxidant activity and structural‐activity relationship of Morinda citrifolia polysaccharide and its derivatives.

Abstract:A new anthraquinone, 2,5,8-trihydroxy-1-methoxyanthraquinone (1), was isolated from the roots of Morinda officinalis together with two anthraquinones, 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone (2) and anthragallol-1,3-dimethylether (3), and two iridoids, ningpogenin (4) and monotropein methyl ester (5). The structure of 1 was elucidated by spectroscopic methods including 1D, 2D NMR, HR-MS, and IR. This is the first report of compounds 2–5 from the genus Morinda.

Abstract:Abstract Morinda officinalis is a well-known medicinal and edible plant that is widely cultivated in the Lingnan region of southern China. Its dried roots (called bajitian in traditional Chinese medicine) are broadly used to treat various diseases, such as impotence and rheumatism. Here, we report a high-quality chromosome-scale genome assembly of M. officinalis using Nanopore single-molecule sequencing and Hi-C technology. The assembled genome size was 484.85 Mb with a scaffold N50 of 40.97 Mb, and 90.77% of the assembled sequences were anchored on eleven pseudochromosomes. The genome includes 27,698 protein-coding genes, and most of the assemblies are repetitive sequences. Genome evolution analysis revealed that M. officinalis underwent core eudicot γ genome triplication events but no recent whole-genome duplication (WGD). Likewise, comparative genomic analysis showed no large-scale structural variation after species divergence between M. officinalis and Coffea canephora . Moreover, gene family analysis indicated that gene families associated with plant–pathogen interactions and sugar metabolism were significantly expanded in M. officinalis . Furthermore, we identified many candidate genes involved in the biosynthesis of major active components such as anthraquinones, iridoids and polysaccharides. In addition, we also found that the DHQS, GGPPS, TPS-Clin, TPS04, sacA, and UGDH gene families—which include the critical genes for active component biosynthesis—were expanded in M. officinalis . This study provides a valuable resource for understanding M. officinalis genome evolution and active component biosynthesis. This work will facilitate genetic improvement and molecular breeding of this commercially important plant.

Abstract:A phytochemical study of Cortex Moutan (the dried root bark of Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews) led to the isolation of 24 compounds, including eleven mono-phenols ( 1 – 11 ), seven terpenoids ( 12 – 18 ), three flavonoids ( 19–21 ), two sterols ( 22 and 23 ) and one coumarin ( 24 ). The structures of these isolated compounds were identified using NMR spectroscopy ( 1 H and 13 C) by comparison with previously reported data. To the best of our knowledge, compounds 5 , 11 , 15 , 16 , 22 , and 24 were reported from this plant for the first time. The chemotaxonomic significance of the isolates was also discussed.

Abstract:Chemical investigation of the aerial part of Chonemorpha griffithii has led to the isolation of 20 compounds, comprising six lignans (1–6), six triterpenoids (7–12), four phenolic acids (13–16), two flavonoids (17 and 18), one cyclitol (19) and one aliphatic acid (20). Among them, 5′-methoxy-7′-oxomatairesinol (1) was identified to be a new lignan. It is the first report of the presence of those compounds in this genus. Two 24-methyl-29-norcycloartane triterpenoids (10 and 11) were considered as the chemotaxonomic markers for the species C. griffithii.

Abstract:Morinda officinalis How (MO) is one of the best-known traditional herbs and is widely cultivated in subtropical and tropical areas for many years, especially in southern China. Oligosaccharides are the major constituents in the roots of MO, which is well known for its therapeutic effects with anti-depression, anti-osteoporosis, memory-enhancing, ect. To date, the main gene families that regulate the biosynthetic pathway of MO oligosaccharides metabolism yet have been published. In our study, six cDNA libraries generated from six plants of MO were sequenced utilizing an Illumina HiSeq 4000 platform. Corresponding totals of more than 132.60 million clean reads were obtained from the six libraries and assembled into 25,812 unigenes with an average length of 1288 bp. Moreover, 6036 unigenes were found to be allocated to 26 pathways maps using several public databases, and 2538 differential expression genes (DEGs) were screened. Among them, 25 genes from three families were selected as the mainly candidate genes related to MO oligosaccharides biosynthesis. Then, the expression patterns of six DEGs closely related to MO oligosaccharides biosynthesis were verified by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Besides, the MO was clustered more closely to Coffea arabica of Rubiaceae. In summary, the transcriptomic analysis was used to investigate the differences in expression genes of oligosaccharides biosynthesis, with the notable outcome that several key gene families were closely linked to oligosaccharides biosynthesis.

Abstract:Objective: To isolate and identify chemical constituents from Phellodendron chinense. Methods: Chemical constituents were isolated by silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. The structures of the isolated compounds were determined by spectral means. Results: Ten compounds were isolated and identified as berberine (1), caffeic acid ethyl ester (2), iso-vanillin (3), ferulic acid (4), (+/-)-5,5'-dimethoxylariciresinol (5), Methyl beta-orsellinate (6), gamma-fagirine (7), (+/-)-Lyoniresinol (8), beta-sitosterol (9), stigmasterine (10). Conclusions: Compounds 2-6 are isolated and identified from this genus for the first time.

Abstract:Morinda officinalis is one of the four traditional herbal medicines in South China.Through systemically sorting and studying textual and modern literature of Chinese medicine,this article reviews original plants,change of producing area,processing and quality evaluation of Morinde officinalis.The original plants were of large difference at end of the Qing dynasty,and involved in six families,ten genera and twelve species.We can clearly know that Morinda officinalis may be derived from Tetrastigma hemsleynum Diels et Gilg,Ophiopogon bodinieri Levl,and Campylandra chinensis (Baker) M.N.Tamura et al.through the effective biology description.Thus,clarifying the change from ancient to modern Morinda officinalis ensures the product specification development of the natural medicines.

Abstract:Objective: To isolate and elucidate the constituents from stem of Chirita longgangensis var. hongyao. Method: The constituents were extracted with methanol and isolated by chromatography on silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and ODS. The structures were determined by NMR and MS spectral analysis. Result: Seven compounds were identified as 2-hydroxy-7-methyl-9, 10-anthraquinone (1), 2-methyl-9, 10-anthraquinone (tectoquinone) (2), ursolic acid (3), vanillic acid (4), beta-sitosteryl-D-glucoside-6'-palmitate (5), beta-sitosterol (6), daucosterol (7), respectively. Conclusion: Compounds 1, 2, 3 and 5 were isolated for the first time from the family Gesneriaceae, compounds 4 and 6 were isolated for the first time from the genus Chirita, and compound 7 was isolated for the frist time from Chirita longgangensis var.

Abstract:The major chemical constituents of genus Gentiana include iridoids,secoiridoids,triterpenoids, flavonoids and xanthones,etc.And the pharmacological activities of genus Gentiana include inhibition of AChE activ- ity,antiinflammatory and antioxidant activities,antidepressant effect,anti-tumor activity,hepatoprotective effect, antihypertensive effect,etc.Through referring and collecting the data reported in literatures on main chemical constit- uents and the pharmacological activities of genus Gentiana,this paper summarized the current research status of their phytochemistry constituents and the pharmacological activities to provide the reference on further researches and de- velopments of plant resources of genus Gentiana.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of 70% aqueous EtOH extract of Cistanche sinensis led to the isolation of fifteen compounds (1-15), including nine phenylethanoid glycosides (PhGs, 1-9), five iridoid glycosides (10-14), and one lignan glycoside (15). Their structures were determined on the basis of 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments and by comparison with physical data of known compounds. Among the isolated compounds, 1 was identified as a new compound, three compounds (9, 14, and 15) were firstly reported from the genus Cistanche, and seven compounds (2-6, 11, and 12) were isolated from C sinensis for the first time. PhGs with a 6'-O-rhamnosyl moiety such as cistansinenside B (1), poliumoside (7), and 2'-O-acetylpoliumoside (9) could serve as chemotaxonomic markers to differentiate C sinensis from other species of Cistanche. Abstract:Murraya exotica, a kind of plant in genus Murraya Koenig ex L. of Rutaceae family, is widely distributed in southern China and some tropical and subtropical regions of Asia. At present, the bioactive chemical constituents from this plant are mainly composed of coumarins, flavonoids, alkaloids, volatile oil, etc. Modern pharmacological researches show that M. exotica has insecticidal, anti-inflammatory analgesic, antibacterial, antioxidant effects, etc. The research progress on chemical constituents ofM. exoticaand their pharmacological activities are reviewed in this paper, which could provide a theoretical basis for the material basis of efficacy, mechanism of action and exploitation.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents of Abelmoschus manihot.METHOD:Chromatographic methods were used to isolate compounds from A. manihot, and spectroscopic methods were used to identify the structures.RESULT:Thirteen compounds, myricetin (1), cannabiscitrin (2), myricetin-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), glycerolmonopalmitate (4), 2, 4-dihydroxy benzoic acid (5), guanosine (6), adenosine (7), maleic acid (8), heptatriacontanoic acid (9), 1-triacontanol (10) , tetracosane (11), beta-sitosterol (12), beta-sitosterol-3-O-beta-D-glucoside (13) were obtained.CONCLUSION:2-11 were obtained from the genus for the first time.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the chemical constituents of mangrove plant Cerbera manghas collected in Hainan Province of China. Methods Column chromatography techniques were used for se- paration and purification of the compounds and extensive spectral analyses including 2D NMR spectrum were employed for structural elucidation. Results Seven compounds were obtained from leaves of C. manghas, including 3R, 5S, 6S, 7E, 9S-3, 5, 9-trihydroxy-6-methoxy-7-megastigmane (Ⅰ), blumenol A (Ⅱ), 3R, 5S, 6R, 7E, 9S-3, 5, 6, 9-tetrahydroxy-7-megastigmane (Ⅲ), 12β-hydroxyl-5α-pregnane-16-ene-3, 20-dione (Ⅳ), 12β-hydroxyl-pregnane-4, 16-diene-3, 20-dione (Ⅴ), 3β, 12β-dihydroxy-pregnane-16-ene-20-one (Ⅵ), 3α, 12β-dihydroxy-pregnane-16-ene-20-one (Ⅶ). Conclusion Compound Ⅰ is a new compound named as euscaphin B and other compounds are isolated from C. manghas for the first time.

Abstract:Twenty-one compounds were isolated from an ethanol extract of Machilus wangchiana by a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 and reversed-phase HPLC. Their structures were identified by spectroscopic data analysis including optical rotation, UV, IR, MS, and NMR data. The compounds are categorized as eight butanolides (1-8), eight lignans (9-16), and five terpenoids (17-21). Compound 16 is a new natural product with an uncommon heptanorlignan skeleton. Meanwhile, the unique Ginkgo biloba (maidenhair) metabolites ginkgolides A (19) and ginkgolides B (20) were obtained from this material. In the preliminary assays, compound 5 showed selective inhibitory activities against human stomach cancer cells (BGC-823) and ovary cancer cells (A2780) with IC50 values of 0.13 x 10(-6) and 2.66 x 10(-6) mol x L(-1), respectively. Compounds 8 and 9, at 1 x 10(-5) mol x L(-1), showed inhibitory activities against the release of beta-glucuronidase of the polymorphous nuclear leukocytes induced by platelet activating factor (PAF), with inhibition rates of 60.0% and 54.2%.
