Abstract:Systems dynamics provides theories and approaches to explore complex systems. However, the optimization in a systems dynamics model still follows the“try-and-error” method, which does not work satisfactorily. According to the principles of systems dynamics, the paper proposes a general formulation for the policy optimization problem in a systems dynamics model by introducing a control policy function. Combining with genetic algorithms, , the order policy optimization in a distribution and super-market system is addressed. This paper aims to develop basic principles of systems dynamics and discuss the control and policy optimization for social economic systems.

Abstract:Supermarket chain stores, acting as a model of retail formats, are booming in China, and logistics distribution is one of the key determinants to lower costs. This paper employed a specific case-supermarket Wu Dongfeng by using the system dynamics method to illustrate the efficiency of factor analysis. The research makes the following findings: we can adjust the delay time of the distribution center receiving rate; the adjustment time of chain store has a great impact on the distribution center storage and we should pay attention to its controlment.

Abstract:As a new type of commercial operation,medium and small chain supermarket is playing a very important role in China's economic development.But there are still many problems in its purchasing management,inventory management and distribution systems.To solve these problems,the authors establish an optimizing model for the logistic system in medium and small chain supermarket to help promote the optimization of these systems.First,in terms of purchasing management,we should improve the purchasing organizations,promote the scientific management of suppliers,and implement category management.Second,in terms of inventory management,we should avoid blindness and empiricism while ordering by adopt the automatic replenishing and create a win-win situation by implementing VMI and giving full play to the role of suppliers.And third,in terms of distribution system,we should carry out the cost analysis,find out the key points for optimization and continuously improve this system.

Abstract:Focusing on the multi-stage complex logistics distribution process of distribution centers, this study proposes and establishes a characteristic state model, analysis, and control methods for logistics distribution centers. These are combined with system dynamics simulation methods for logistics systems to conduct an in-depth study on the optimization and control of distribution center operations. Based on actual distribution process data from a pharmaceutical logistics distribution center, the proposed theories and methods are validated against real-world engineering backgrounds.

Abstract:Inventory control is especially difficult when demand is stochastic and nonstationary. We consider a spare part inventory control problem with multiple-period replenishment lead time, and describe a static-dynamic strategy for the problem. By solving a static-dynamic uncertainty model, the strategy first makes decisions on the replenishment periods and order-up-to-levels over the planning horizon, but implements only the decisions of the first period. It then uses the rolling horizon approach in the next period when the inventory status is revised, and the multi-period problem is updated as better forecasts become available. In light of structural property of the developed static-dynamic uncertainty model, the optimal solution to the model can be obtained without much computational effort and thus the strategy can be easily implemented. Computational experiments and result of a case study verify the efficacy of the proposed strategy.

Abstract:We consider a single-distributor multi-retailer inventory system in six operating scenarios for a finite horizon. Five scenarios are in decentralized control and the other one is in centralized control. Approximate dynamic programming (ADP) procedures are developed to obtain system performances for scenarios in decentralized control, and a stochastic dynamic programming approach is applied to the scenario in centralized control. The efficiency and effectiveness of ADP procedures are demonstrated by numerical results. Taking the system performance in centralized control as a benchmark, system performances in decentralized control are investigated and compared for different operating scenarios. The results provide useful insights in system planning and operations.

Abstract:The highly perishable nature of fresh products during distribution creates additional challenges for firms engaged in the supply chain in the process of matching supply with demand.This paper considers a retailer who purchases a batch of fresh products,transports and sells them to multiple consecutive markets.The demand from each market and the quantity loss from perishability during transportation are both assumed to be stochastic.The retailer needs to determine the quantity to be unloaded when he arrives at each market,with the remaining inventory being transported to the next market.The unloading quantity depends on the trade-off among factors including the current inventory level,forecast of demands from the remaining markets,and the potential perishability of products.Based on a multiperiod dynamic programming model and using a stochastic modeling approach,we provide an in-depth investigation towards the optimal unloading quantity decisions for the retailer and characterize the structure of the optimal policy.Moreover,the optimal initial inventory decision is studied.By conducting some numerical experiments,we analyze the potential inventory pooling effect from making dynamic decisions.Our results show that making unloading decisions in a dynamic way is more profitable when the inventory surviving factors are negatively correlated,when the products are more perishable,when the perishability risk is high,and when the demand is less uncertain.Our research results provide some interesting and important managerial insights for the management of fresh products across multiple consecutive markets.

Abstract:The location-inventory distribution system design problem involving one supplier,candidate distribution centers and multiple retailers under stochastic demand is studied in this paper.Retailers adopt periodic re- view (R,s,Q)inventory policy,while distribution centers adopt continuous review (s,S)inventory policy.Considering the trade-off between inventory cost,shipping cost and facility location cost,the integrated 2-echelon inventory cost func- tion with incapacitated facility location model is presented.A Lagrangian relaxation solution algorithm for realistic scale problem is then proposed.A number of heuristics are also outlined for solving effectively sub-problems.The sub-gradient method is thus improved.Furthermore,simulations are given to confirm the correctness of the model and the effectiveness of the solution.In comparison with traditional approaches,we discussed the sensitivity of potential cost reduction to the changes of inventory control key parameters such as demand variance,holding cost,lead-time and service level.

Abstract:Efficient order allocation and inventory management are essential for the success of supply chain operations in today's dynamic and competitive business environment. This research introduces an innovative decision-making model incorporating dependability factors into redesigning and optimizing order allocation and inventory management systems. The proposed model aims to enhance the overall reliability of supply chain operations by integrating stochastic factors such as demand fluctuations, lead time uncertainty, and variable supplier performance. The system, named Dynamic Reliability-Driven Order Allocation and Inventory Management (DROAIM), combines stochastic models, reliability-based supplier evaluation, dynamic algorithms, and real-time analytics to create a robust and flexible framework for supply chain operations. It evaluates the dependability of suppliers, transportation networks, and internal procedures, offering a comprehensive approach to managing supply chain operations. A case study and simulations were conducted to assess the efficacy of the proposed approach. The findings demonstrate significant improvements in the overall reliability of supply chain operations, reduced stockout occurrences, and optimized inventory levels. Additionally, the model shows adaptability to various industry-specific challenges, making it a versatile tool for practitioners aiming to enhance their supply chain resilience. Ultimately, this research contributes to existing knowledge by providing a thorough decision-making framework incorporating dependability factors into order allocation and inventory management processes. Practitioners and experts can implement this framework to address uncertainties in their operations.

Abstract:At present, the shop logistics is becoming an important component for the manufacturing industry to upgrade the core competitiveness. The scheduling of the enterprise's shop logistics system is proved to be a NP complete problem. Tile multi-agent physical model of the enterprise's shop logistics is set up, basing on the multi-agent technique. This model can be divided into two sub-models of the shop operation lay and the controlling lay. It puts forward a dynamic scheduling model of the shop logistics, and describes the basic trusses of the shop logistics scheduling agents, especially introduces the mathematical model of the process agent based on the dynamic scheduling algorithms. The process agent model can judge from the production capacity that whether it is capable to accept the process tasks. Under the premise that the production capacity permits, takes the process cost, transport cost, process time, transport time into integrated consideration to choose the optimal process route, and discusses the corresponding scheduling regulation and strategy according to the different scheduling tasks and performance requests. The example of the normal scheduling and the abnormal scheduling of the enterprise shop logistics proved the validity and the feasibility of the simulated model. The establishment of the model provides a new method for the simulation and scheduling optimization of the complex shop logistics system.

Abstract:Material handling has become one of the major challenges in modern production management. Consequently, this paper intends to investigate the part delivery of mixed-model assembly lines with decentralized supermarkets and tow trains. Besides, uncertain exception disturbances, including tow train failures and adjustments of the production sequence, are also considered. To solve this problem, a heuristic-based dynamic delivery strategy is proposed, which dynamically schedules the route, departure time, quantities and types of loaded parts for each tour. To evaluate the performance of this strategy, it is used to solve an instance in comparison with the periodic delivery strategy, experimental results are reported and their performances are compared under different metrics. Moreover, a multi-scenario analysis is employed to determinate the long-term decisions, including the number of tow trains and the route layout. Finally, the critical storage is suggested to be set for each station to avoid part starvation resulting from disturbances, and its effect on the delivery performance is investigated.

Abstract:This paper introduces dynamic programming as a powerful mathematical approach to address the challenges of Inventory control and explains its advantages, including long-term focus, adaptability, and the ability to handle multi-stage decision processes. The study shows how dynamic programming can be used to make optimal decisions regarding inventory selection, calculation of optimal order quantities, and scheduling of order points, with the aim of minimizing inventory costs. It also outlines the problem modeling and resolution methodology using the Inventory Dynamic Programming Algorithm and discusses the potential benefits of this approach for businesses operating in dynamic and uncertain environments.

Abstract:Inventory management is a fundamental challenge in supply chain management. The challenge is compounded when the associated products have unpredictable demands. This study proposes an innovative optimization approach combining system-dynamic Monte-Carlo simulation and Bayesian optimization. The proposed algorithm is tested with a real-life, unpredictable demand dataset to find the optimal stock to meet the business objective. The findings show a considerable improvement in inventory policy. This information is helpful for supply chain analytics decision-making, which increases productivity and profitability. This study further adds sensitivity analysis, considering the variation in demand and expected output in profit percentage. This paper makes a substantial contribution by presenting a simple yet robust approach to addressing the fundamental difficulty of inventory management in a dynamic business environment.

Abstract:In the context of evolving supply chain management, the significance of efficient inventory management has grown substantially for businesses. However, conventional manual and experience-based approaches often struggle to meet the complexities of modern market demands. This research introduces an intelligent inventory management system to address challenges related to inaccurate data, delayed monitoring, and overreliance on subjective experience in forecasting. The proposed system integrates bar code and distributed flutter application technologies for intelligent perception, alongside comprehensive big data analytics to enable data-driven decision-making. Through meticulous analysis, system design, critical technology exploration, and simulation validation, the effectiveness of the proposed system is successfully demonstrated. The intelligent system facilitates second-level monitoring, high-frequency checks, and artificial intelligence-driven forecasting, consequently enhancing the automation, precision, and intelligence of inventory management. Abstract:However, a closer examination reveals that many firms are battling inventory bottleneck as the covid pandemic spike in demand converges, which results in unpredictability and unstable sale fluctuation. This situation forced the hotel industry to find a balance between fulfilling demand and inventory turnover, which is impossible to predict accurately. Therefore, this research aims to combine system dynamics modelling with a hotel food supply chain system to solve the unpredictability of supply chain dynamics. In addition, The Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) and Stock and Flow Diagram (SFD) are used in this study to model the complexity of the case study supply chain, with an objective model to minimize the instability of inventory turnover and to stabilize the sales movement. This study proposes five policy scenario simulations where standard deviation (SD) and Standard of Error (SE) are used as the decision-making parameters. The simulation result suggests that the fifth scenario provides the highest SD (49.484) and the lowest SE (6.336). Therefore, controlling the customer response time variable to a maximum of 25 minutes and the menu unavailability variable to 15 occurrences per week will result in higher stability of the case study inventory turnover.

Abstract:We study a two-echelon, single-product fulfillment system where a regional fulfillment center (FC) replenishes multiple independent local distribution center (LDC) orders within an internal committed resupply leadtime, and LDCs serve end customers within a committed demand fulfillment time, or committed delivery time. Expected system-wide demand depends on the product's price, the committed delivery time, and the number of LDCs in the system. Our proposed model determines the values of product price, committed resupply time, and committed delivery time that maximise expected system-wide profit per period, while accounting for product holding costs and fixed facility costs. We characterise key properties of optimal solutions that permit an efficient solution for a fixed number of LDCs, and consider the impacts of several proposed demand growth models as the number of LDCs increases. The results of a computational study provide interesting managerial insights on how operational constraints and the scale of the distribution system influence strategic stock placement and distribution system structure.
