Abstract:The continuing VLSI technology scaling and increasing Ldi/dt noise have led to more significant power supply fluctuations, which need to be modeled fast and accurately even in early-stage power grid design. In this paper the authors propose a supernode-like formulation of circuit equations, which may reduce the number of the linear equation variables to about one-third of that formulated by a regular method in Chen, T and Chen, CC, 2001. A prediction-and-correction technique is used to make the algorithm robust. With the stability analysis it can be seen that enlarging the time step will not impact the accuracy, and hence can be incorporated into other solvers. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm can achieve a similar accuracy while it is about 4.5times faster than the regular formulation method

Abstract:This paper presents a extension of traditional circuit theory in analogy to the resolution of forces. In mechanics, for solving various problems we use the composition of force and also the resolution of a force as well, the latter being the inverse operation of the former. In electricity, we indeed use only the connection of resistances in series and in parallel. In this article, it is intended to related the inverse operation of resistances in series and in parallel—the method of resolution and its simple applications. In solving some of the circuit problems it may be found convenient and adoptable even if the circuit includes inductance and capacity.

Abstract:Circuit simulators are fundamentally used for solving electric circuit problems with different degrees of complexity in which node voltages and branch currents are the unknowns. This is fully understandable since they were originally created for this specific task. However, behind the curtains, powerful simulation engines based on a variety of numerical techniques operate so as to always comply with Kirchhoff's current and voltage laws. In this paper, it is shown how a simple circuital configuration, referred to as the elementary solver, consistent in two behavioral current sources in series, can be used to solve mathematical problems that go beyond electronics. Of course, the intention is not to substitute mathematical packages with well-proven calculus capacity but to increase the scope of circuit simulators for their application in other areas of research or simply for educational purposes. It is worth mentioning that no special programming skills are required (except a basic knowledge of the available tools and language) and, furthermore, that the user can operate exclusively in a graphical environment. It is shown, throughout a series of selected examples, how the method of elementary solvers (MES) works, providing a new and practical dimension to the applicability of circuit simulators.

Abstract:This paper presents a brief review and recent development of surface integral equation solvers for multiscale interconnects and circuits modeling. As the future production processes down to 5 nm and the operating frequency increases, both multi-scale and large-scale natures should be taken into account in the electromagnetic simulations. Fast, efficient, stable, and broadband integral equation based solvers become indispensable when millions or ten s of millions of unknowns might be involved in the simulation of the integrated circuit. Recent progress and our latest researches in the development of broadband fast electromagnetic solvers will be demonstrated.

Abstract:Smart structures and structronic (structure + electronic) systems are recognized as one of the essential technologies of the 21st century [1]. Conventional techniques used in modeling and analysis of structronic systems involves 1) theoretical analysis, 2) finite element analysis, and 3) laboratory experiments. This research is to investigate the fourth modeling and analysis technique based on the electrical analogy, i.e., using electronic circuits and components to model distributed structronic systems. A generic distributed structronic control system is shown in Figure 1.

Abstract:This letter proposes a hybrid method for the modeling of multilayer planar structures with locally inhomogeneous penetrable objects. By using the equivalence principle, the original problem can be decomposed into external and internal problems, which are formulated by the mixed-potential integral equation (MPIE) method and finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, respectively. Instead of directly implementing the continuity boundary conditions, an iterative approach is used to solve the hybrid FDTD-MPIE problem. Numerical results are presented to validate the hybrid method.

Abstract:in recent years, flexible DC grids has developed rapidly and the Short-circuit protection is the main reason limiting its development. The calculation of fault short circuit is of great significance for the research of DC grid short circuit fault protection. There are virtual nodes in the equivalent circuits of some DC grids, which will cause the number of state equations of the DC grid and the number of state variables to be different. The algorithm proposed in this paper eliminates virtual nodes through a novel star-mesh network transformation and simplifies the calculation method of fault current. The proposed method is verified to be accurate and time-saving by comparison with the simulation results of electromagnetic transient (EMT) on PSCAD. This method can be applied to all kinds of VSC-HVDC network (ring, radial, and meshed topologies) and different types of short-circuit faults (pole-to-pole and pole-to-ground.).

Abstract:A domain decomposition scheme based on the equivalence principle, similar to Huygens' principle, for integral equation solvers and the method of moments is introduced. The equivalence principle allows the replacement of unknown currents distributed in a volume in space by equivalence currents residing on the surface that bounds the volume. It also allows the dissociation of the solution of one region from that of another region. In this manner, problems of high complexity can be encapsulated by surfaces of simpler shapes using less unknowns. It can aid in parallel algorithms, reusability of solutions, as well as improving the condition number of a matrix system when disparate mesh or adaptive mesh are needed. The challenge arises when an equivalence surface intercepts a current-carrying conductor, because the breakup of the current into separate pieces gives rise to charge singularity. A junction basis can be used to mitigate this singularity. However, a better solution is to introduce a tap basis to model the current that intercepts with the equivalence surfaces. Using this scheme, the current continuity is conserved and the singularity of the charges is avoided. The solution is shown to be accurate.

Abstract:In this paper, we are first concerned with the exact number and expressions of the positive normalized solutions for the nonlinear Kirchhoff equation in which the frequency is unknown and to be determined by the solution. With these results, we further answer an open problem concerning the exact number of positive solutions to the Kirchhoff equation with fixed frequency. It is interesting that we observe some new phenomena, which are completely different from those for the corresponding nonlinear Schrödinger equation and which reveal the special influence of the nonlocal term.

Abstract:Kirchhoff's circuit laws are important basic concepts in many basic disciplines, such as electricity and circuitry. However, in the usual teaching process, teachers often teach this knowledge using some simple examples of analysis and calculation but without deep discussions. As a result, students could not have a deep understanding about these concepts or not apply the concepts on actual problems flexibly. Therefore, passive learning habits are formed. The lack of self-exploration awareness and comprehensive ability would result in a poor learning effect. This paper designs a specific application scene of Kirchhoff's circuit laws using a multi-channel resistor network. With this application, students can construct the knowledge system autonomously, find the problems proactively, solve the problems timely, and combine the research-based autonomous learning with extracurricular open mutual learning; so, their active learning ability will be promoted to a large extent. Compared with the past teaching methods, this pedagogical case highlights the following advantages of active learning. Firstly, it highlights the process of guiding students to study the object from a small-scale resistor network to a complex and large-scale multi-channel resistor network. Secondly, it embodies the concrete application of calculus knowledge in various basic courses with the help of perfect mathematical deduction. Thirdly, it exercises students' programming ability by using MATLAB to numerically simulate theoretical results. Finally, this case practices students' hands-on experimental ability by constructing real resistor circuits and verifying the theory and simulation results. In addition, we get good feedback from students on the teaching effect through the questionnaire survey.

Abstract:Abstract This research investigates a complex n order cascading circuit network with embedded horizontal bridge circuits with the N-RT method. The contents of the study include equivalent resistance analytical formula and complex impedance characteristics of the circuit network. The research idea is as follows. Firstly the equivalent model of n -order resistance network is established, and a fractional difference equation model is derived using Kirchhoff’s law. Secondly, the equivalent transformation method is employed to transform the fractional equation into a simple linear difference equation, and its particular solution is computed. Then the solution to the difference equation is used to derive the effective resistance of the resistance network of the embedded horizontal bridge circuit, and various special cases of equivalent resistance formula are analyzed and the correctness of the analysis model gets verified. Finally, as an expanded application, the equivalent complex impedance of LC network is studied, and Matlab drawing tool is employed to offer the equivalent impedance with various variables of the graph. Our results provide new research ideas and theoretical basis for relevant scientific researches and practical applications.

A Fast Simulating Algorithm for Power/ground Network with Tree Mesh Hybrid Structure

Abstract:This paper presents an efficient method to accelerate the speed of analysis of complex power/ground network with mesh and tree structures in time domain. Equivalent circuit model is used in our algorithm to reduce the dimension of large-scale linear system while fast reconstruction strategy is carefully designed to make the whole procedure more efficient. Experimental results show that the more tree nodes exist in the network, the faster the new algorithm is. On average. it's 1 order faster than pure ICCG and 2 orders faster than HSPICE with little loss on the precision and stability.

Abstract:By using the well-known mountain-pass theorem and Ekeland's variational principle, we prove that there exist at least two fully nontrivial solutions for a -Kirchhoff elliptic system with the Dirichlet boundary conditions and perturbation terms on a locally weighted and connected finite graph . We also present a necessary condition of the existence of semitrivial solutions for the system. Moreover, by using Ekeland's variational principle and Clark's Theorem, respectively, we prove that the system has at least one or multiple semitrivial solutions when the perturbation terms satisfy different assumptions. Finally, we present a nonexistence result of solutions.

Abstract:Complex fault diagnosis is one of the most important areas of power system analysis. Currently the power supply system is complicated, the causal relationship for or logic of general unstick quantitative which determined by the structure exists between the input and output in a Complex fault system. Therefore, the mapping one-to-one simple relationship does not exist between the fault and sign, which leads to the complexity of the fault diagnosis. With the improvement of the complexity for modern power distribution system, a powerful basis for electrical facility selection is proposed by fast and accurate short-circuit current calculation. Thus, current research focus on how to fully consider various complex conditions in distribution network, short-circuit current calculation. A new kind of short-circuit current calculation model are quoted in this paper, asymmetric network complex fault calculation by a model using virtual nodes and lines which is equivalent to a three-phase distribution system, can be used to intuitive analysis the complex asymmetric network fault. The comparison between the new algorithm and traditional algorithm with efficiency and reliability in various fault condition is given in this paper, provide the basis for choice short-circuit current calculation method to different network model, the basis for choice short-circuit current calculation method is provided to different network model.

Abstract:The special solutions of the Kirchhoff equations, which are those relative to fixed coordinate system, principal coordinate system of a cross section of the rod, and Frenet coordinate system of the central line of the rod, respectively, are derived in this paper. Lyapunov stability of these solutions is discussed by use of theory on the first-approximation stability, and at the same time stability area in parameter's plane is given.

Abstract:Equations system constructors of hierarchical circuits play a central role in device modeling, nonlinear equations solving, and circuit design automation. However, existing constructors present limitations in applications to different extents. For example, the costs of developing and reusing device models -- especially coarse-grained equivalent models of circuit modules -- remain high while parameter sensitivity analysis is complex and inefficient. Inspired by differentiable programming and leveraging the ecosystem benefits of open-source software, we propose an equations system constructor using the computational graph representation, along with its JSON format netlist, to address these limitations. This representation allows for runtime dependencies between signals and subcircuit/device parameters. The proposed method streamlines the model development process and facilitates end-to-end computation of gradients of equations remainders with respect to parameters. This paper discusses in detail the overarching concept of hierarchical subcircuit/device decomposition and nested invocation by drawing parallels to functions in programming languages, and introduces rules for parameters passing and gradient propagation across hierarchical circuit modules. The presented numerical examples, including (1) an uncoupled CMOS model representation using "equivalent circuit decomposition+dynamic parameters" and (2) operational amplifier (OpAmp) auto device sizing, have demonstrated that the proposed method supports circuit simulation and design and particularly subcircuit modeling with improved efficiency, simplicity, and decoupling compared to existing techniques.

Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems

Abstract:We investigate the multiplicity results of positive solutions for a Kirchhoff-type problems with supercritical and critical nonlinear terms in a ball. By employing the Nehari method and Lusternik–Schnirelmann category theory to an auxiliary problems, we note that there is a relationship between the number of maxima in the coefficient function of the critical term and the number of positive solutions for the problems.
