Abstract:Impatiens longshanensis (The LSID for the name Impatiens longshanensis is: 77219154-1) sp. nov. and I. lihengiana (The LSID for the name I. lihengiana is: 77219153-1) sp. nov., from Hunan, China, are described and illustrated here. The molecular phylogenetic study suggests that I. longshanensis and I. lihengiana should be placed in the I. sect. Impatiens. A detailed description, diagnostic characters between the two new species and allied species, pollen and seed morphology, and color photographs are provided. In addition, based on wide sampling, we found that the longifilamenta group, an endemic group to China, whose members have basal lobes of lateral united petals with long filamentous hairs, shows significant morphological variability. In this paper, we discuss the taxonomic significance of morphological characteristics within this group. Based on a literature review and observation of living materials in the field, an updated identification key for this group is also proposed.

Abstract:Clematis brevipes (Ranunculaceae), described from southern Gansu province, China, is an interesting and yet imperfectly understood species, with some of its important morphological characters, detailed geographical distribution and habitat information unknown or inconsistently recorded. Based on careful observations of both herbarium specimens (including type material) and living plants in the wild, here we determine the number of leaflets and color of flowers of this species and its geographical distribution. The habitat information is also given for this species for the first time. Furthermore, we discuss aspects of typification of C. brevipes and the affinity of the species with its close allies.

Abstract:A new species, Smilax weniae (Smilacaceae), from Southwest China, is described and illustrated. The new species bears peltate leaves, which was previously a unique feature of S. luei. However, it differs from the latter by having a broad ovate leaf blade, longer peduncle, and sexual dimorphic flowers. Further phylogenetic analyses revealed that the new species were placed in a unique position in a subclade of Old World Smilax based on ptDNA and nrITS sequences. Combining detailed morphological comparisons and molecular evidence, we validated that S. weniae is an undescribed new species. Moreover, the plastome characteristics of S. weniae are reported.

Abstract:Carex qingliangensis D. M. Weng, H. W. Zhang & S. F. Xu, a new species of the Cyperaceae from Zhejiang, China, is described with illustrations. The new species is morphologically similar to C. dolichostachya Hayata and C. tianmushanica C. Z. Zheng & X. F. Jin, but differs from the former in having perigynia sparsely pubescent and achenes constricted into a short neck at apex. It differs from the latter in having achenes not contracted in the middle part.

Abstract:Two novel Comoclathris species were identified from dicotyledonous plants ( Clematis sp. and Xanthoceras sorbifolium ) in China. The results were supported by morphological characters and Maximum Likelihood ( ML ) and Bayesian Inference ( BI ) analyses. Multi-gene phylogenetic analyses of the ITS , LSU , SSU and rpb 2 sequences revealed two new species Comoclathris clematidis and C. xanthoceratis , which are phylogenetically distinct. The new species are phylogenetically closely related to C. arrhenatheri. However, they are distinguishable from C. arrhenatheri by having comparatively larger asci and ascospores. This study improves our knowledge of Comoclathris as no species has been previously described from China. This suggests such taxa may be rare and it is likely that new taxa will be discovered from hosts and environments that have not yet been extensively investigated.

Abstract:As the supplement of the flora of Zhejiang, East China, two new species were described with illustrations. Cerastiumhuadingense Y.F.Lu, W.Y.Xie & X.F.Jin (Caryophyllaceae) differs from C.qingliangfengicum in having sterile stems absent, leaves sessile, petals slightly longer than sepals, and stamens slightly shorter than sepals. Ixeridiumdimorphifolium Y.L.Xu, Y.F.Lu & X.Cai (Asteraceae) differs from I.beauverdianum in having plant stoloniferous, basal leaves dimorphic, involucre 8‒10 mm long, inner phyllaries 8, and florets 7‒10. Paraphlomissetulosa C.Y.Wu & H.W.Li (Lamiaceae) was reviewed and morphological characters of the corolla and stamens of its type and the specimens collected in the field survey were critically examined. With barbate anthers and strongly divergent anther cells, Paraphlomissetulosa was transferred to Sinopogonanthera, and S.setulosa (C.Y.Wu & H.W.Li) H.W.Zhang & X.F.Jin was consequently combined.

Abstract:Recent fieldwork in the Chinese province of Zhejiang revealed new insights into the taxonomy of the genus Carex in this area. Carex honglinii, a new species of Carex sect. Confertiflorae, is described. It differs from C. pseudodispalata in having perigynia broadly obovoid, contracted into a ca. 0.5‒0.7 mm long beak at the apex, and staminate scales acuminate. Carex nemostachys var. subglabra (sect. Confertiflorae) is raised to specific rank and combined as C. subglabra. Eventually, a new subspecies of Carex scopulus (subsp. aristata; sect. Mitratae) is described. This new subspecies differs from the type subspecies in having pistillate scales with a 1‒4 mm long apical scabrous awn, and leaves 1.5‒2.5 wide.

Abstract:Elsholtzia zhongyangii (Lamiaceae), a new species from Sichuan Province, China, is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically similar to E. feddei f. feddei, but it can be easily distinguished from E. feddei f. feddei by smaller corolla (3.2–3.5 mm vs. 4.5–5.3 mm), bract indumentum (glabrous, except margin ciliate vs. villous, especially on veins abaxially, glabrous adaxially) and bract stalked (ca. 1.2 mm vs. sessile). Phylogenetic analyses, based on two nuclear ribosomal (ETS, ITS) and five plastid (rbcL, matK, trnL-F, ycf1, ycf1-rps15) regions, confirmed that the new species formed a monophyletic clade with robust support. The new species is currently known from western Sichuan.

Abstract:Carex remotistachya, C. daxinensis and C. fangiana, three new species from China, are described and illustrated. Carex remotistachya resembles C. doniana (sect. Molliculae), differing by having spikes remote, staminate spikes with a 3–5 cm long peduncle at the base, leaves 3–6 mm wide, and stigmas shorter than perigynia. Carex daxinensis is similar to C. caudispicata (sect. Radicales), but differs in having perigynia ellipsoid-ovoid, 4–4.5 mm long, staminate parts of spikes shorter than pistillate ones, and leaves 2–3.5 mm wide. Carex fangiana is similar to C. nitidiutriculata (sect. Hymenochlaenae), differing by having leaves 6–9 mm wide, staminate spike solitary, and perigynia glabrous.

Abstract:Cerastium qingliangfengicum H.W. Zhang & X.F. Jin sp. nova (Caryophyllaceae) is described. The new species was found in moist places in the valleys of Mt. Qingliangfeng in western Zhejiang of China. It is morphologically similar to C. wilsonii, hut differs by having sparsely to densely pubescent stems, leaves densely pubescent on both surfaces, petal lobes obtuse at apex, and capsules more than twice as long as sepals.

Abstract:A new species and a new subspecies of Impatiens (Balsaminaceae) from Zhejiang, China, are described and illustrated. The new species Impatiens yilingiana is morphologically similar to I. noli‐tangere, but differs in having lateral sepals narrowly ovate, wings with a 4–5 mm long stipe at base, obliquely bi‐lobed at apex, wings and lip (lower sepal) without purple spots, and carinate dorsal costae of the standards. The new subspecies I. huangyanensis subsp. attenuata differs from the typical entity in having larger lateral sepals and lower sepals attenuately constricted to a spur. In addition, micromorphology of pollen grains and seed coat of the new taxa are compared with related taxa.

Abstract:Based on critical examination of herbarium specimens (including type material), we demonstrate that Clematis hainanensis (Ranunculaceae), described from Hainan in southern China, is not essentially different from C. leschenaultiana, a species widely distributed in China (Chongqing, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Taiwan, Yunnan), and also in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. We therefore place C. hainanensis in synonymy with C. leschenaultiana herein. Lectotypification is proposed for C. leschenaultiana var. denticulata, which was described also from Hainan and treated as a synonym of C. leschenaultiana. The placement of the name C. splendens is briefly discussed.

Abstract:Scutellaria wushanensis (Lamiaceae), found in the broad-leaf forest of Chongqing Wulipo National Nature Reserve, Chongqing, China, is described and illustrated as a new species after comparing it with related species. The new species shares a similar leaf shape and inflorescence morphology with Scutellaria lotienensis. However, the new species can be clearly distinguished from Scutellaria lotienensis by the bract shape, the pubescence inside the corolla, the hairless filaments, and the posterior corolla lobe shape and the purple-red patches.

Abstract:Carex yandangshanica C. Z. Zheng & X. F. Jin, a new species of Carex sect. Rhomboidales Kükenth. from Zhejiang, China, is described and illustrated. The new species is similar to C. thibetica Franch. and C. brevicuspis C. B. Clarke, but differs from the former by having trabeculate leaves, pistillate spikes with 6–10 staminate flowers or without staminate flower at the apex, and achenes at apex contracted into a slightly curved beak, and from the latter by having lateral culms, trabeculate leaves, and elliptic, rubiginous and awned pistillate scales. SEM microphotographs of perigynia and achenes are provided for the new species and related taxa.

Abstract:Sedum kuntsunianum, a new species of Crassulaceae from Zhejiang, China, is described and illustrated. It is similar to S. makinoi in having opposite leaves that are obtuse at the leaf apex, and sepals and leaves that are spurred at the base, but differs in having a creeping habit, persistent decussate basal leaves (absent in S. makinoi), paired sterile stems in the axils of the basal leaves (absent in S. makinoi), sepals 5–9 mm long (2–3 mm in S. makinoi), and petals 7–8 mm long (4–5 mm in S. makinoi).

Abstract:Lysionotus coccinus G.W. Hu & Q.F. Wang, a distinct new species from Yingjiang County, southwestern Yunnan Province, China, is described and illustrated. It belongs to L. sect. Lysionotus, but has scarlet flowers while all other known species in this section have white, yellow, purple or pink flowers. Color photographs and a chart are provided for comparing the new species with related species.

Abstract:Several species of the genus Seiridium (Amphisphaeriaceae) are important phytopathogens on plants in the Northern and Southern hemispheres. In this paper we introduce and illustrate a new species of Seiridium from Yunnan Province, China. The novelty is supported by phenotypic analyses of conidial characters and by ITS and beta-tubulin gene sequence data. Seiridium venetum (Sacc.) Nag Raj is also redescribed from fresh material collected from Cornus mas in Italy, and is designated as a reference specimen.

Abstract:Nectriaceae is a highly diverse family, and members have a worldwide distribution, particularly in warm temperate to tropical regions. During the survey of fungal diversity in different habitats in Yunnan province, China, two new species isolated from soil and air respectively, namely Atractiumyunnanense sp. nov. and Nalanthamalaxishuangbannaensis sp. nov., were proposed based on morphological comparisons and the multi-gene phylogenetic analyses of combined ITS, LSU, rpb2, and tub2 sequence data. Phylogenetically, both species clustered in a monophyletic clade within Nectriaceae with strong support. A.yunnanense is characterized by synnematous conidiophores, pale olivaceous-green, clavate to oblong-ellipsoidal, multi-septate conidia, and pale olivaceous-green chlamydospores. N.xishuangbannaensis has acremonium-like or penicillium-like conidiophores and either obovate or ellipsoidal, cylindrical or fusiform conidia. Full descriptions, illustrations, and a phylogenetic tree showing the phylogenetic position of the two new species were provided.

Abstract:Six new species of Chrysillini are described from Xizang, China: Chrysilla yarlungzangbo sp. nov. (♂), Icius faker sp. nov. (♂♀), I. han sp. nov. (♂♀), I. kui sp. nov. (♂♀), I. kulakangri sp. nov. (♂♀), I. zhengi sp. nov. (♂♀). In addition, a new combination is proposed: Nandicius gyirongensis (Hu, 2001) comb. nov. (♂♀) (transferred from Psenuc Prószyński, 2016), and the males of this species are described for the first time. Siler niser Caleb, Parag & Datta-Roy, 2023 (♂♀) is newly recorded in China.

Abstract:Iris luojiensis Z.Y. Wang, H.W. Huang and R. Li sp. nov. from southwest China is described and illustrated. This species occurs on shrub slopes in mountainous regions of southwest China. Iris luojiensis is morphologically similar to Iris japonica Thunb., Iris calcicola Z. C. Lu, Z.P. Huang and Yan Liu and Iris wattii Baker, but easily distinguished from them by its bluish‐violet flowers, 3–6 flowering‐stem branches, leaf size, particularly the upper leaves, and by only having two to three (seldom one) flowers per bract. A phylogenetic analysis based on the complete plastid genome supports the separation of I. luojiensis from other morphologically related species. According to morphological and molecular evidence, I. luojiensis can be placed in the I. sect. Lophiris.
