Abstract:The visual inspection system was developed for defects detection on leather surfaces, which is an important component of automatic CAD/CAM cutting systems. The main functions of the system are quality control and raw material cutting. An efficient algorithm, which combines multiresolution approach, energy and entropy matrices, is presented for detection of defects embedded in leather surface images. A wavelet band selection procedure was developed to automatically determine the number of resolution levels and decompose subimages for the best discrimination of defects and removals of repetitive texture patterns in the image. An adaptive binary thresholding is then used to separate the defective regions from the uniform gray-level background in the restored image. The proposed methodology is able to efficiently detect several types of defects that current approaches cannot detect, and is fast enough to be used for real-time leather inspection.

A two-stage decomposition procedure was proposed to extract an odd-odd frequency matrix after a digital image has been transformed to DCT domain. Then, the reverse cumulative sum algorithm was proposed to detect the transition points of the gentle curves plotted from the odd-odd frequency matrix. The best radius of the cutting sector was computed in terms of the transition points and the high-pass filtering operation was implemented. The filtered image was then inversed and transformed back to the spatial domain. Finally, the restored image was segmented by an entropy method and some defect features are calculated. Experimental results show the proposed small defect detection method can reach the small defect detection rate by 94%.

Abstract:An online defect inspection algorithm was proposed for detecting the most common bamboo strip defects. The algorithm was employed to process images with different kinds of defects. The result indicated that the algorithm could effectively filter out texture and sound knots of bamboo, and six kinds of major defects were found. The algorithm is of the advantage of accurateness, real-time processing and stability.

Abstract:Computer vision methods can benefit wood processing industry. We propose a method to detect wood surface quality and classify wood samples into sound and defective classes. Gray level histogram statistical features and gray level co-occurrence matrix GLCM texture features are extracted from wood surface images and combined for classification. A half circle template is proposed to generate GLCM, avoiding calculating distances at each pixel every time and speeding up the algorithm greatly. The proposed approach uses more pixel information than traditional four-angle method, resulting in a significantly higher classification accuracy. Moreover the running time demonstrates our algorithm is efficient and suitable for real-time applications.

Abstract:According to theselection of bamboo stripproduction process of bamboo flooring,this paper,which is based on machine vision,constructs a platform of defect inspection and color classification of bamboo strip,studies key problems about image acquisition,optical imaging,illumination in the process of defect inspection and color classification,designs the software flow and processing algorithm of defect inspection and color classification,investigates implementation about mechanical transmission,sorting execution device and electronic control of the platform.The simulation results show that the algorithm of defect inspection and color classification can accurately detect the image about bamboo strip which is untaken by the acquisition system designed,complete the inspection about six kinds of common defects and the identification about four kinds of color difference.It has great significance for promoting production efficiency of the production process about selection of bamboo strip.

Abstract:This dissertation describes the design and implementation of a computer vision based varve image analysis system. The primary issues covered are software engineering design, varve image calibrations, varve image enhancement, varve Dynamic Spatial Warping (DSW) profile generation, varve core image registration, varve identification, boundary identification and varve thickness measurement. A varve DSW matching algorithm is described to generate DSW profile and register two core images. Wavelet Multiple Resolution Analysis (MRA) is also used to do the core image registrations. By allowing an analyst to concentrate on other research work while the VARVES software analyzes a sample, much of the tedious varve analysis work is reduced, and potentially increasing the productivity. Additionally, by using new computer vision techniques, VARVES system is able to do some varve analysis which was impossible handled manually.

Abstract:A method of the surface defect detection for rail workpiece is proposed in this paper. Based on the principle of machine vision inspection technology and LabVIEW software program, the surface quality of rail workpiece can be achieved. The image collected by CMOS color industrial camera is processed and analyzed by image preprocessing, image threshold segmentation, morphological analysis, feature location and pattern matching. The graphical display interface is designed by LabVIEW software programming, and the real-time display of rail defects is carried out. This experiment shows that the system can quickly and efficiently diagnose the two major defects of rail surface crack and scratch. It is easier to realize the intellectualization of defect surface detection and achieve the requirements of rail workpiece surface defect detection in the rail production.

Abstract:With the development of non-destructive testing technology and computer technology, wood non-destructive testing technology will develop towards intelligence and automation. The primary condition for development is to be able to carry out the testing of various physical properties of wood without destroying the wood itself. Wood defects refer to abnormal wood structure. Its existence will affect the quality of wood, change the normal performance of wood, and reduce the utilization rate and use value of wood. The purpose of this article is to try to find an effective detection method without damaging the original structure of the wood. It can accurately and quickly determine the defect information on the wood surface. This research mainly discusses the visual analysis of wood internal defect detection based on tomographic image reconstruction algorithm. According to the analysis of the planks to be tested, this paper determines the structural characteristics, the types of defects to be tested, and the classification standards. To analyze the principle of machine vision imaging, this paper designs a hardware experiment system for wood board imaging, by observing the collected Biyun Temple building wood images and summarizing the Biyun Temple building wood defects, surface texture features, and various appearance features in the image. Based on digital image processing technology, this paper designs a complete set of real-time timber classification and detection algorithms. The algorithm realizes the extraction of Biyun Temple’s architectural wood region, texture region extraction, and the comprehensive feature vector extraction of Biyun Temple’s architectural wood. In the image preprocessing stage, the color image is converted into a grayscale image through the grayscale processing of the image. Through the equalization processing of the histogram, the defect features in the defect image are highlighted. Through image smoothing and denoising processing, the noise points that may exist in the image are removed. The signal-to-noise ratio of the Marching Cube algorithm is maintained at a relatively high level under different noise conditions, which is about 3-4db higher than the Gaussian method with OPED. This research is helpful for the continuation and inheritance of ancient architectural attainments.

Abstract:Focusing on the surface defect of the cylindrical electronic components,an automatic defect inspection system based on machine vision was designed. On the platform of Visual C++,a series of methods were presented to achieve the purpose of efficient part defect detection,including image pre-processing,image binary-conversion,position and angle correction,difference image meth-od and so on. Experiments prove that this system is safe and reliable,full of economic benefits and broad prospects.

Abstract:Abstract The wood-based furniture manufacturing industries prioritize quality of production to meet higher market demands. Identifying various types of edge-glued wooden panel defects are a challenge for a human worker or a camera. Several studies have shown that the detection of edge-glued defects with low, high, normal, overlong, short is identified but detection of residue and bluntness is highly challenging. Thus, the present model identifies defects of low, high, normal, overlong, short by computer vision and/or deep learning, whereas defects of residue and bluntness by deep learning based decide by pass for having better performance. The goal of this paper is to provide an improved defect detection solution for wood-based furniture manufacturing industries by process automation. Therefore, a system was designed that takes defect input images from a camera as raw image and laser-aligned image for defect detection of the edge-glued wooden panel. The process automation then performs computer vision-based image features extraction with deep learning for defect detection. The aim of this paper is to solve edge-glued defect detection problems by using design and implementation of edge-glued wooden defect detection, that can be stated as edge-glued wooden panel defect detection using deep learning (WDD-DL) for process automation by artificial intelligence and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) consolidation. Possibly there exist several types of defects on the edges while edge-banding on the wooden panel in furniture manufacturing. Therefore, the scope is to achieve higher accuracy by raw image and laser-aligned image feature extraction using deep learning algorithms for final result defect classification in WDD-DL by AOI. The WDD-DL system uses Gabor, Harris corner, morphology, structured light detection and curvature calculation for pre-processing and InceptionResnetV2 Convolutional Neural Network algorithm to attain the best results. The applications of this work can be found in quality control of the furniture manufacturing industry for an edge, corner, joint defect detection of the wooden panels. The WDD-DL achieves best results as the precision, recall and F1 score are 0.97, 0.90 and 0.92, respectively. The experiments demonstrate higher accuracy achievement as compared to other methods with overkill and escape rate analysis. Ultimately, the discussion section provides an interesting experience sharing about the necessary factors for implementing the WDD-DL in real-time industrial operations.

Abstract:The wood panel processing sector is integral to the landscape of industrial manufacturing, and automated detection of wood panel surface defects has become an important guarantee for improving the efficiency and quality of processing production. However, due to the diverse scales and shapes of wood panel surface defects, as well as their complex and varied colors and texture characteristics, the efforts to efficiently and accurately detect surface defects in wood panels through existing methods have fallen short. Therefore, the paper proposes an enhanced YOLOx-tiny deep learning network for wood panel surface defect detection. We introduce new modules MFFM and CFEM, instead of the original SPP and Bottleneck modules to enhance key feature extraction and reduce the number of computational parameters.The experimental results conducted on the self-constructed wood panel surface defects dataset show that the mAP of our proposed method is 95.01%, which is 9.58% higher than the original YOLOx-tiny network model, and the defects recall is 91.46%, which is 13.21% higher compared to the original network. Meanwhile, the method is able to reduce 12.22% of computational parameters and 12.67% of GFLOPs, which effectively improves the efficiency of the detection of surface defects on wood panels. In summary, the proposed intelligent surface defect detection approach for wood panels, which utilizes an enhanced YOLOx-tiny deep learning network, has yielded notable outcomes in enhancing both accuracy and efficiency. This method holds significant practical relevance for the wood panel manufacturing sector, offering the potential to enhance both production efficiency and quality. It also explores the automation and intelligent technology in the process of man-made board processing, which provides a valuable reference for the research in related fields.

Motion-blurry Image Restoration Method for Detecting Surface Defects of Wood Veneer

Abstract:The detection of veneer surface defects is of great significance to wood veneer material evaluation, quality control, and product classification in the wood processing. When the high-speed moving veneer image is collected on the conveyor belt, the image appears blurred, making it difficult to accurately identify the defect type and estimate the defect area. To solve this problem, this study compared three image restoration methods including unnatural L0 sparse representation (L0), multi-scale convolutional neural network (MSCNN), and scale-recurrent convolutional neural network (SRCNN). To perform the comparison analysis, a wood veneer image acquisition system was developed and it provided a wood veneer image dataset with 2,080 groups of blur-clear veneer image pairs. Analysis results showed that the SRCNN method performed better than the other two methods. At four different wood moving speeds, the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) of the SRCNN was 4.64%, 14.63%, 18.48%, and 25.79%, higher than the other two methods and structural similarity (SSIM) was less than 2%. The average time for this algorithm to restore a blurred wood veneer image was 13.4 s. The findings of this study can lay the foundation for the industrialized detection of wood veneer defects.

Abstract:In order to improve the production efficiency of traditional industries and reduce production costs. This study designed a set of automatic detection system for lamp cup rivet defects based on the production characteristics of glass lamp cups of machine vision, which greatly improved the detection efficiency. The system uses high-definition industrial cameras, industry personal computer and servo driver to build a hardware platform, using Gaussian Filter, Thresholding method, Contour Extraction, Contour Screening and Least squares to fit the image processing technology, so the inclination degree of the lamp cup rivet and the depth of the groove are detected and analyzed. This study found that the detection of a single lamp cup took about 1s, and the accuracy of it was high. This system has been tested in factory. After a large number of product tests, the system is stable and reliable with high detection efficiency. The system not only meets the requirements of modern production, but also offers a greatly liberates of labor force.

Abstract:In order to inspect the cold rolling strip main surface defects in while product line running normally and control manufacturing process more efficiently, a novel cold rolling strip surface defect on-line inspection system is designed. Modularization design idea is adopted, the whole system is made up of light source module, image collection module, defect image processing module and server module. For making sure real-time characteristics of the system, high-speed linear CCD camera and relational high-speed fiber image collection card, high-speed FPGA image processing card designed by ourselves are adopted in hardware, RT-Linux real-time operation system is adopted in software. Aiming at low contrast and high noise of defect image, homomorphic filtering algorithm based on PDE is proposed for image preprocess; considering of the exist of defect image transition region, image segmentation algorithm based fuzzy-set and information entropy theory is adopted to accomplish defect abstraction. Based on these, kinds of features of defect are extracted, the defect classification based on fuzzy support vector machine is designed and classification experiment is finished, better classification effect is obtained.

Abstract:In order to solve such problems as low efficiency, low quality and instability of gear surface defect detection, we designed a detection system based on machine vision, sensor coupling. By multisensory coupling, and then CCD camera image collection of gear products, using VS2010 to cooperate with Halcon library for a series of analysis and processing of images. At last, the results are fed back to the control end, and the rejected device is removed to the collecting box. The system has successfully identified defective gear. The test results show that this system can identify and eliminate the defects gear quickly and efficiently. It has reached the requirement of gear product defect detection line automation and has a certain application value.
