Abstract:A very wide band,high gain directional antenna is presented from the study of the optimization of log periodic dipole arrays(LPDA). The antenna is suit able for square shape vehicle. Abnormal resonance is overcome in the study of LPDA design and equilibration of impedance and gain of the antenna over wide band is also settled.

Abstract:This paper presents a super wideband and high-gain log periodic dipole array (LPDA) antenna. The overall structure of the antenna was constructed using microwave studio computer simulation technology. The optimal sizes of the planned antenna are 39 × 10× 0.254 mm 3 . The engineered antenna arrangement is implemented on an RT5880 substrate as a dielectric medium. The LPDA is arranged in four arms that are equally spaced on both lines. The main 50Ω feeder line is partially grounded at the back of the substrate. A combination of circular director units is being studied and tuned in a regular pattern at a predefined distance from the antenna. An improvement in gain of 3 dBi is the response of the director units. The Conformist LPDA is adjusted to achieve a wide range of millimeter wave bands ranging from 40 to over 70 GHz. The antenna resonates at 60 GHz, where the maximum realized gain of 14.97 dBi is attained. The antenna was tested for utilization in the V-band involving wireless personal area network (WPAN) applications recommended by IEEE 802.11ad and IEEE 802.15.3c. The outcomes of the constructed antenna elements' tests and simulations agree fairly well. The proposed layout works better than previous efforts in this field.

Wideband Integrated Log-Periodic Antenna Array for 5G Q-Band Applications

Abstract:A wideband integrated log-periodic antenna (LPA) based on multilayer printed circuit board for fifth-generation (5G) Q-band applications is presented in this letter. The LPA is fed by the broadband radial slot transition balun. The LPA has four dipoles which are separately placed on different thickness printed circuit board substrates. To enhance the gain and reduce the cross-polarization level, the symmetrical layout and differential feeding are adopted in the 4 × 4 LPA array design. The measured results show that the proposed 4 × 4 LPA array achieves the impedance bandwidth of 32.5% (32.5–45 GHz) and the peak gain of 15.5 dBi. Due to these advantages of low cost, wideband and easy for integration, the 4 × 4 LPA array will be a potential candidate scheme for 5G Q-band applications.

Abstract:Log-periodic dipole antenna (LPDA) is a kind of frequency-independent antennas which is widely used. The design theory of the antenna is already mature. Although we can design the antenna with the best characteristic through the design theory, the size of the antenna is usually too large to be used. In this paper, we firstly establish the model of an antenna using the conventional theory and then reduce it to a smaller scale through simulation using CST. Finally, the bandwidth of the antenna is broadened using elliptical sheets instead of cylindrical dipoles.

Abstract:The log-periodical antenna (LPDA) is a kind of ultra wide-band antennas. To achieve the purpose of miniaturization of the LPDA in radiate direction, this paper presents a novel structure log-periodically loaded with symmetrical meandering dipoles. The radiate direction is reduced to 46% of the conventional LDPA. The return loss is less than -10dB from 200MHz to 2GHz, according to the simulation results. A good directivity is also obtained that the gain ranges from 1.9dB to 7.2dB. © 2010 IEEE.

Abstract:In order to increase the gain of an end-fire antenna array and improve its broadband characteristics, techniques using a dielectric lens and defected ground structure have been investigated in this paper. The element of the array was constructed using an antipodal tapered slot, and two pairs of U-slots were symmetrically cut on the edges of the two antipodal fins to obtain better performance regarding impedance and radiation in the wider band. While loading an ellipse dielectric lens onto each element, the direction and gain were enhanced at the higher frequency. Meanwhile, a defected ground structure was added on the ground plane to decline the mutual coupling of adjacent radiation arms. This design method was verified by a four-element array and a four-way Wilkinson power divider was used as a feed network. Finally, a fabricated sample was tested. Experimental results showed the designed array was available.

Abstract:A compact planar log-periodic dipole array (LPDA) antenna operating from 0.55 to 9 GHz with high measured gain is proposed to be implemented in a reverberation chamber as a source antenna. To minimise the total size of the LPDA antenna, variants of top-loading techniques are utilised, and a much smaller spacing factor is opted to specify the spacing between the elements. However, miniaturisation of the LPDA antenna limits the antenna's wideband characteristics over the desired range of frequencies. Hence, a feedline meander and a trapezoidal stub are incorporated into the design as impedance matching techniques to effectively enhance the bandwidth performance especially for the lower band of the antenna's operating frequency range. The LPDA antenna exhibits radiation patterns with and without a radome having the measured gain ranging from 2.48 to 7.89 dBi and from −1.20 to 7.94 dBi, respectively.

Abstract:A novel simple approach is presented for designing a broadband single layer substrate printed log‐periodic dipole array (PLPDA) antenna by using microstrip technology. The PLPDA antenna has the merits of wide bandwidth, low profile and light weight, which should be fed by the balanced line. The balanced line, created by the geometric features of the microstrip, provides a balun with a considerably wide bandwidth with low profile, broad bandwidth and low insertion loss etc. The prototype of the proposed microstrip printed log‐periodic array at Ka band is designed and fabricated; the measured data are in good agreement with the simulated results.

Abstract:Two wideband millimeter-wave end-fire log-periodic dipole array (LPDA) antennas are designed and fabricated using a sequential surface micromachining. The antennas are excited by monolithically integrating a micro-coaxial line feed in the antenna's lower boom designed to provide band rejection at 60 GHz. Antennas 1 and 2 are designed to operate in 18–110 GHz and 18 GHz–50 GHz bands, and measured up to 40 GHz and 50 GHz, respectively. ${\rm VSWR}<2.5$ is obtained for both antennas throughout the measured bandwidth. Measured directivity around 10 dBi and consistent E and H-plane 3 dB beamwidths around 56° and 72°, respectively, are obtained for Antenna 2 throughout its bandwidth. Good pattern correlation between measured and simulated results is also achieved. This paper clearly demonstrates that the wideband high-quality millimeter-wave end-fire LPDAs are now possible.

Abstract:In theory, Log-Periodic Antenna (LPA) is a linearly polarized antenna with frequency independent properties on the input impedance and gain patterns. Owing to these characteristics, LPA has gained research interests and been employed for many wideband applications. A Printed Log-Periodic Dipole Antenna (PLPDA) with multiple notched bands is proposed for Ultra-WideBand (UWB) applications. An antenna with the notched frequencies of 1.03 GHz, 1.28 GHz, 1.72 GHz, 2.24 GHz and 2.51 GHz is designed, fabricated, and measured. An antenna model was established on the substrate of FR4 and feed by a stripline. The simulation results show that the antenna can achieve an impendence wide bandwidth from 0.89 to 2.58 GHz with return loss less than −10 dB and exhibit stable antenna gain. Furthermore, the measurement result is better consistent with simulation result.

Abstract:This paper presents the step-by-step design procedure and simulated performance investigation of a printed log-periodic dipole antenna (LPDA) that is able to operate cover wide frequency range (800–2500 MHz). The advantage of this antenna is compact and easy to integrate with planar circuits which is suitable for applications that need wide bandwidth and high gain antenna. The dimension of designed antenna has initially been calculated; then modeled using a commercial electromagnetic simulation to optimize the effect of dielectric properties of substrate on the width and length of dipole element conductors. To validated the designed antenna, it is fabricated and measured to carry out its S11 and radiation patterns. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulation ones.

Abstract:In this article, a gain-enhanced wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation and quasi-omnidirectional radiation is proposed. It is a hexagonal structure and includes six identical endfire log-periodic dipole array (LPDA) elements. These antenna elements are distributed in the same plane and uniformly placed in a rotating arrangement with an angle difference of 60°, and then are suspended over a large metallic plate (LMP). To enhance the wideband gain, a different metasurface (MS) lens with a high refractive index is deployed around the endfire log-periodic dipole. The uniform MS lens makes electromagnetic waves deflect toward the array axis of the LPDA, whereas the gradient MS lens could form focused plane electromagnetic waves in the endfire direction. Furthermore, these antenna elements are isolated with a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR)-based electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure owing to its wide bandstop frequency and small-size characteristics. To validate the design concept, the prototype is fabricated and measured. The measured −10-dB impedance bandwidth covers 2.85–10.9 GHz (FBW 117.1%) and the gain varies from 10.37 to 14.82 dBi. Moreover, high isolation of better than 22.4 dB and low envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) of less than −62.3 dB is achieved between antenna elements. The proposed wideband MIMO antenna could be suitable for vehicular radar.

Abstract:In this letter, a circularly-polarized (CP) log-periodic dipole antenna (LPDA) is investigated. Eight crossed dipole cells with a logarithmically increased $\lambda $ /8 separation are employed to form the proposed CP LPDA. The dipoles with increased length and spacing are fed in series by an air-filled parallel line. The working mechanism of the generation of back-fire CP radiation is illustrated by an array analyzation. Besides, the LPDA design factors for both polarizations are analyzed in detail to realize an optimized CP performance. To validate the performance of the proposed eight-element CP LPDA, a prototype was fabricated and measured. The measured axial ratio (AR) bandwidth (0.8-2.5 GHz) is coincident with the impedance bandwidth (0.8-2.43 GHz), and it can be further increased with more elements. The overlapping bandwidth with VSWR < 2, AR < 3 dB, gain variation < 3 dB, and back-fire gain > 5 dBic is 0.94-2.43 GHz (2.6:1), and the radiation pattern is stable across the entire band.

Abstract:Wideband omnidirectional antennas are essential components in radio monitoring and communication systems, enabling the reception of signals from all directions over a wide bandwidth. This paper presents a novel wideband omnidirectional antenna design that achieves a 1-dB gain variation across its azimuthal plane within a bandwidth of 1.8 GHz to 7.77 GHz. The antenna's exceptional performance is attributed to two flower-bud-shaped monopoles that, through pattern superposition, generate a wideband omnidirectional radiation pattern. Analysis shows that the use of a circular ground plane also reduces the azimuthal gain variation. Additionally, an embedded matching structure integrated into the antenna's base enhances the impedance bandwidth without compromising its compact size. Analytical investigations demonstrate that the matching structure effectively behaves as a five-order LC circuit, explaining its wideband matching capabilities. Furthermore, structural modifications effectively reduce side lobe levels, ensuring minimal interference. Experimental measurements corroborate the antenna's omnidirectional radiation pattern and confirm that the azimuthal gain variation remains within 1-dB throughout its bandwidth, while maintaining an S11 below -10 dB from 1.8 GHz to 7.7 GHz. The antenna's bandwidth overlaps with the spectrum intensively used in mobile communication technologies, such as LTE, Bluetooth, and IEEE 802.11be, as well as radiolocation applications, making it a promising choice for unmanned aerial vehicles conducting communication and radio monitoring missions.

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of large size and small gain of log periodic dipole antenna (LPDA) in high frequency (HF), this article introduces miniaturization technology to design a miniaturized HF broadband LPDA unit antenna with high gain. In this article, a dovetail structure is designed for LPDA to greatly reduces its transverse size, and adopts a larger scale factor and a smaller spacing factor to reduce its longitudinal size. The effects of scale factor, spacing factor, oscillator angle, parallel oscillator and erection height on the impedance characteristics and radiation performance of dovetail LPDA are studied. Finally, the feasibility of dovetail LPDA is verified by simulation and experiment, which shows that the proposed antenna size is only 7.92 × 15.52 m2, voltage standing wave ratio is less than 1.8, and gain is more than 11 dBi. The proposed dovetail LPDA has high gain, wide bandwidth, and small size, which can work independently and can also be used as the unit antenna of HF broadband antenna array.

Abstract:Ultra wide-band is one of the hottest issues in the current researches on antennas. The circular monopole antenna is a kind of ultra wide-band antennas with simple structure. Firstly a novel antenna was researched. Four circular disc monopoles were placed across each other. They were considered as the feedings, and the reflection plane was planar. It could achieve dual polarization characteristics. On this basis, further study was applied to two other novel antennas. The first was changing the planar reflector to parabolic one, and the purpose was to realize wide beam, high gain and directed radiation characteristic. The other was changing the circular disc shape, and the purpose was to realize wider lower frequency bandwidth. The novel antennas were theoretic analyzed, and the S- parameter and radiation patterns of the antennas were discussed by electromagnetism simulation software. The analytic results verify that the characteristic of the traditional monopole antenna is effective improved by the novel antennas. Dual-polarization, high gain, wide beam and directed radiation characteristics of the antenna are realized. The novel antennas are suitable for the satellite and mobile communication systems with good prospects.
Wideband Wide Beamwidth Full-Wavelength Sectorial Dipole Antenna Under Dual-Mode Resonance

Abstract:In this article, a novel design approach to wide beamwidth dual-resonant, wideband sectorial dipole antennas is advanced. At first, a 1-D, full-wavelength dipole is evolved into a 2-D, sectorial dipole, so as to determine its two usable resonant modes. Then, both wideband and wide beamwidth characteristics are simultaneously attained under dual-mode resonance. Next, dual-resonant sectorial dipole antennas with flared angle of 270° and 240° are designed and studied. As experimentally validated, the proposed antenna exhibits an omnidirectional pattern with its impedance bandwidth over 70.4%. A few prototypes mounted above a ground plane are further investigated, so as to achieve a broad H-plane half-power beamwidth (HPBW) to over 120°. In addition, the antennas exhibit stable gain frequency response with fluctuation less than 2.2 dB within the entire impedance bandwidth. Thus, the advanced design approach based on 2-D dual-resonant, full- wavelength dipole leads to the formulation of novel wide beamwidth antennas with low frequency dispersion and simple configuration within a wide radiation bandwidth over 53.3%. Finally, a dual-polarized dipole antenna with port-to-port isolation higher than 34.5 dB and available radiation bandwidth of over 49% is implemented to further validate its potential for practical applications.

Abstract:A low profile end-fire radiation and vertical polarization log-periodic array covering an ultra-wide band of 1-10.7GHz was presented in this paper. It consists of 22 monopole elements, some of it loaded with top hats in different size to achieve the required resonant frequency, shorting posts to maintain a good impedance match in low band. A folded microstrip line on the bottom is used to feed the array. The proposed antenna has a very low profile of 0.053λ l and extremely narrow width of 0.061λ l , (λ l is the free-space wavelength at the lowest operating frequency). Simulation results show that from 1-10.7 GHz (10.7:1) for VSWR<;2.5 and a realized gain better than 5.1dBi is obtained.

Abstract:This paper initially presents an overview of different miniaturization techniques used for size reduction of printed log-periodic dipole array (PLPDA) antennas, and then continues by presenting a design of a conventional PLPDA design that operates from 0.7–8 GHz and achieves a realized gain of around 5.5 dBi in most of its bandwidth. This antenna design is then used as a baseline model to implement a novel technique to extend the low-frequency response. This is completed by replacing the longest straight dipole with a triangular-shaped dipole and by optimizing the four longest dipoles of the antenna using the Trust Region Framework algorithm in CST. The improved antenna with extended low-frequency response operates from 0.4 GHz to 8 GHz with a slightly reduced gain at the lower frequencies.

Abstract:Recent applications like mmWave technologies require antenna characteristics such as high gain and wide bandwidth for smooth operation with high speed. Hence, this paper presents a novel pi‐shaped patch antenna framed within a square structure for mmWave applications at 28 GHz. In the process of designing a four‐element linear‐planar antenna array (LPAA), a thin single antenna element is designed on a 0.275 mm Rogers 5880 substrate with a dielectric constant of 2.2. The proposed single‐element antenna provides a gain of 3 dBi at 28 GHz and a wide impedance bandwidth ranging from 22.482 GHz to 40.511 GHz. Then, this proposed structure is transformed into a four‐element LPAA with a compact dimension of 0.263 mm × 18.55 mm × 23.99 mm. To enhance and predict the impedance bandwidth of the proposed LPAA, mathematical modeling using response surface methodology and constrained numerical optimization is applied. In the optimization process of the antenna, independent factors such as substrate height (H s ) and interelement spacing (d) that influence the antenna's responses such as impedance bandwidth (BW) and operating frequency (F r ) are considered. These factors are varied repeatedly and simulated using computer simulation technology (CST) suite 2019 for preparing the dataset, which is used as an input for mathematical modeling. Then, response surface methodology (RSM) is employed to relate the responses with independent factors. Models are validated using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The optimum parameters determined by applying constrained numerical optimization are substrate height (H s ) and interelement spacing (d) of values 0.263 mm and 5.61 mm, respectively. The optimized LPAA provides a wide bandwidth of 11 GHz and a peak gain of 9.25 dBi. The antenna also gives radiation efficiency of ≥98.5% and VSWR of less than 2 in its operating frequency range. The results included here are simulated using the CST EM solver and validated using the Ansys High‐Frequency Simulation Software (HFSS). The proposed antenna provides high gain and wide bandwidth, which makes it a good candidate for 5G wireless communication applications.

Abstract:The structure of Dual Polarization LPDA(log-periodic dipole antenna)array is discussed in detail in this paper.Using COSMOS/Works plug-in which is integrated in SolidWorks2005 as the tool of FEM analysis,static analysis of key parts of the array has been done.Basing on the analysis,the structure design of the Dual Polarization LPDA array is performed.Test results of the array show it is a compact and reliable design,which also satisfies the system performance requirement well.
