Abstract:This paper addresses the development of industrial process control. The functions of the sensors, controllers and actuators in industrial processes are analysed. Then, from application viewpoint, we discussed the progress of process control algorithms from PID to advanced algorithms. Consequently, the distance from modern control theory to the application in industrial process is studied in depth. At last, a case study and the perspectives of industrial process control are given.

Abstract:In this paper we present a new APC (Advanced Process Control) software package named APC-Hiecon based on OPC (OLE for Process Control) technology and model-based predictive control algorithm. Its implementation principle, basic framework and features are also analyzed in detail. This software package has been successfully applied on the vinyl chloride rectifying equipment in Qindao Chemical Factory. China. In addition, the development and application of advanced process control software based on OPC technology is prospected.

Abstract:A derivative and integral sliding mode adaptive control scheme is proposed for a class of nonlinear system with uncertain parameters. The control approach introduces integral control to avoid the assumption that the derivative of desired signal must be known in conventional sliding mode variable structure control, and uses adaptation algorithm based on Lypunov method to make the system insensitive to parameter uncertainties. A nonlinear derivative control is introduced to avoid system chattering caused by parameters tuning . The switching function of integral sliding mode control is defined , and the nonlinear expression of derivative coefficient is presented. The proposed method is applied to position tracking control of an electro-hydraulic servo system. Simulation results indicate that the control approach is robust and improves tracking accuracy considerably.

Abstract:There has been extensive interest in model algorithm control (MAC) and its application to industrial processes for dealing with time-varying parameters, uncertain characteristics. But the control based on basic MAC method still exists some problems. One of the problems is how to design MAC system to improve the robustness to prior choice of model. The second is how to use the adaptive algorithm for on-line estimation which doesn't need a huge amount of computational time that influence the regulation performance for engineering application. In this paper, a novel adaptive model algorithm control (AMAC) is developed with consideration for dealing with the model prediction error and bounded disturbances and noise, combined with the auto-stop parameter estimation technique. Based on this method, the complex system can be described with low-term system, which results in reducing computational time, and improving the robustness to model structure for effective control of complex chemical processes. Finally, according to the proposed AMAC method, two typical processes are studied by computer simulation. The results show this AMAC method is much advantaged with robustness to modelling error and different bounded disturbance and can be easily applied to control the complex processes.

Abstract:L 1 adaptive control is a new adaptive control methodology developed in recent years with good robustness properties and some distinguishing features, such as fast adaptation and guaranteed transient closed-loop response. However, the L 1 adaptive control architecture in various forms in currently available literature has not considered systems with integrated output tracking error as augmented states. This paper extends the L 1 adaptive control architecture to systems with this integral feedback augmentation while retaining the original control performance of L 1 adaptive control. After some proof and discussions about this method, some simulation examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control methods.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the artificial intelligence technology, significant breakthroughs in its theory and applications have been widely used in many fields. The related theories and technical achievements of artificial intelligence are likely to be integrated to the maximum extent in the field of control; that is, intelligent control will become the comprehensive embodiment of the artificial technology. This study starts with an overview of the development of the control science and technology, and concludes that intelligent control will become a starting point for the integration of artificial intelligence and industry. Then, the study discusses the development requirements of intelligent control, ways of control technology intellectualization, development stages of intelligent control, and characteristics of each stage. Finally, the key direction of promoting the development of the intelligent control technology is described.

Abstract:Adaptive control provides techniques for adjusting control parameters in real time to maintain system performance despite unknown or changing process parameters. These methods use real data to tune controllers and adjust plant models or controller parameters. The field has progressed significantly since the 1970s, helped by digital computers. Early applications offered essential feedback, and theoretical advances solved many basic problems. This book comprehensively treats adaptive control, guiding readers from basic problems to analytical solutions with practical applications. Presenting a unified view is challenging due to various design steps and applications. However, a coherent presentation of basic techniques is now possible. The book uses a discrete-time approach to reflect the role of digital computers and shares practical experiences and understanding of different control designs. Mathematical aspects of synthesizing and analyzing algorithms are emphasized, though they alone may not solve practical problems. The book includes applications of control techniques but stresses that a solid mathematical understanding is crucial for creatively applying them to new challenges. Mathematical synthesis and analysis are highlighted, but they must be supplemented with practical problem-solving and algorithm modifications for specific applications.

Abstract:Adaptive interaction algorithm,whose advantage is easy to implement,can perform gradient descent of control pa- rameters without any knowledge of plant.Based on adaptive interaction theory and classical PID controlling theory,an adap- tive interaction PID controller is developed.The good perform- ance of adaptive interaction PID is verified by the application of hydraulic edger screwdown system in Baosteel 2050 rough mill. The results show that the adaptive interaction PID controller achieves better performance than the classic one,especially,in the circumstance of foreign disturbance and working condition variation.

Abstract:This article reviews the recent development of adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) with applications in control. First, its applications in optimal regulation are introduced, and some skilled and efficient algorithms are presented. Next, the use of ADP to solve game problems, mainly nonzero-sum game problems, is elaborated. It is followed by applications in large-scale systems. Note that although the functions presented in this article are based on continuous-time systems, various applications of ADP in discrete-time systems are also analyzed. Moreover, in each section, not only some existing techniques are discussed, but also possible directions for future work are pointed out. Finally, some overall prospects for the future are given, followed by conclusions of this article. Through a comprehensive and complete investigation of its applications in many existing fields, this article fully demonstrates that the ADP intelligent control method is promising in today’s artificial intelligence era. Furthermore, it also plays a significant role in promoting economic and social development.

Abstract:Adaptive neural intelligent control is investigated for a class of pure-feedback nonlinear time-delay systems with unmodeled dynamics in nonlower-triangular form, which views the lower-triangular structure as a special structure. A variable partition technique is applied to surmount the difficulty in the nonlinear functions of whole state variables. By utilizing the backstepping recursive design approach and the universal approximation capability of neural networks, an adaptive neural controller is systemically designed. Then, based on the utilization of Lyapunov–Krasovskii functionals, the semiglobally uniform boundedness of all closed-loop signals is guaranteed. Finally, the suggested control method is verified through a numerical example. The main advantage of this paper is that an intelligent control method is developed for pure-feedback nonlinear systems with state time delay, unmodeled dynamics and nonlower triangular form. Further developments will focus on how to deal with the problem of output feedback control of pure-feedback nonlinear time-delay systems with unmodeled dynamics and nonlower-triangular structure.

Abstract:Research on a neural network combined with adaptive control has become one of new branches for intelligent control. The adaptive control has high robustness while the neural network has a self-learning function and fault-tolerance ability. As neural network adaptive control incorporates the said advantages, it has powerful superiority. This paper overviews comprehensively the existing situation of neural network adaptive control, describes two typical control schemes, neural network model reference adaptive control and neural network self-tuning control. Furthermore, the main applications of neural network adaptive control are introduced. On the basis of which this paper discusses its existing problems such as stability, robustness, convergence. In the end, this paper reviews the development trend and indicates the future research direction.
