Abstract:The Hot Summer-Cold Winter Zone is a highly developed and densely populated area in China. Like many parts of the world that suffer cold and hot climate variations, the adaptive thermal comfort range here is wider than the standards, and inhabitants are accustomed to intermittent opening windows for ventilation and intermittent heating and cooling as well. Standards for residential buildings in this area are based on 24h continuous air-conditioning, resulting in large deviations between predictive effects of energy-saving technologies and actual effects. In order to achieve the energy consumption goal of 20 kWh/m(2) set for the residential buildings in this area and more accurately predict the energy-saving effects of optimized envelopes under the actual operation mode, this paper analysed optimisation strategies packages of envelopes by dynamic simulation based on residents' thermal comfort demands and intermittent behavioural characteristics. The results show that 1) compared to intermittent operation modes, the result of performance improvements of envelopes based on continuous mode may inaccurate; 2) thermal regulation behaviour optimisation can significantly reduce energy consumption; and 3) in intermittent modes, improving airtightness can save energy by 9.6%-46.7%, while the figures for envelopes and interior walls and floors are 13.6%-37.3% and 6.0%-7.9%. Seven optimisation schemes are proposed to guide the residential energy-saving design in this area. These findings could provide information for updating standards.

Abstract:According to Design standard for energy efficiency of residential buildings in hot summer and cold winter zone (JGJ 134-2010),there is a great difference between continuous energy utilization and actual energy usage.Based on the large scale of questionnaire survey in Hangzhou,a typical city in hot summer and cold winter zone,obtains the basic air conditioning behavior of local residents,the tolerant temperature and the average set temperature.Analyses the energy saving effects of the exterior thermal insulation of the residential buildings under different energy usage modes using building energy consumption simulation software DeST.The results show that reasonably setting the design condition in energy saving design standards is an important premise for accurately evaluating the energy saving effect of the exterior thermal insulation.

Abstract:The energy consumption cold storage is rapidly increasing due to fast development of cold chain. However, the energy consumption composition, energy efficiency, and cooling load composition of cold storage are not clear, which become a barrier for increasing energy efficiency in cold storage. In the previous research, an accurate and convenient field cooling capacity test method is lacking. In this study, an extended compressor energy conservation -compressor volumetric efficiency method was proposed to calculate the cooling capacity of each cold room in centralized cold storage. A cold storage system in Jiangsu Province was selected for field testing. The operational characteristics and composition of electricity consumption were investigated firstly. The field test results show that the refrigeration system accounts for 80% of the total energy consumption of cold storage. Statistical analysis revealed that the valley electricity price interval and compressors accounted for 64.0% and 67.3% of the total energy consumption of the refrigeration system, in time and space, respectively. Furthermore, during the transition season (4/1-5/31), with a cold storage temperature of -18 C-circle, the average daily energy efficiency ratio of the refrigeration system in the cold storage is 1.33 kWh center dot kWh(-1). An analysis of the composition of the refrigeration load was also conducted, and the results indicated that for the overall cooling load of the cold storage, the envelope cooling load, door leakage & personnel operating cooling load, income cargo cooling load, and electrical equipment cooling load accounted for 26%, 27%, 32%, and 15%, respectively.

Abstract:According to the climate features and the energy consumption characteristics of public buildings in the hot summer and cold winter regions,in order to reduce the energy consumption for air-conditioning and lighting systems some energy saving schemes are designed.Since the energy consumption of air-conditioning system is the most important part in total building energy consumption,the energy saving methods for building envelope,which is closely related to the energy consumption of air-conditioning system,including the design of outer wall,forms,and exterior shadings are emphatically analyzed;the heat recovery technology of new air system is briefly described;and a scheme with LED technology instead of existing energy-saving lamps is proposed.The results of energy consumption analysis after renovation show that the proposed energy saving schemes have high pertinence and tremendous promotion action on the energy saving of the public buildings in hot summer and cold winter regions,which further stress the importance of energy saving idea.

Abstract:Despite the rapid development of cold stores, most cold store facilities exhibit high energy consumption. Reducing energy costs in cold stores is crucial for minimizing operating expenses and effectively managing the overall cold supply chain. Our objective is to optimize the operational strategy of cold stores based on differential pricing to minimize energy consumption. Firstly, we employ computational fluid dynamics simulation to model the operation of cold stores and determine optimal boundary conditions. Secondly, we propose a comprehensive method for accounting for cold stores' energy consumption by considering heat conduction from the enclosure structure and air seepage. Additionally, under the conditions of extra cool storage at a low electricity price, we divide the cold store operation process into four stages and establish a mathematical model for optimizing energy consumption throughout the entire operational cycle based on differential electricity pricing policies. Finally, three cities are selected for case analysis purposes. The results demonstrate that all three cities achieve an average energy saving level exceeding 8%, with Harbin city achieving over 18% savings specifically, thereby validating that our optimization model can yield superior results in northern cities characterized by significant diurnal temperature variations.

Abstract:Three ways to improve ice storage systems of chiller and ice bank in series are analyzed using a system simulation program known as TSTORS: (1) secondary pump; (2) self-regulated valve; (3) variable speed pump. It is shown that a lot of energy can be saved by using secondary pump and self-regulated valve if constant speed pumps are used. If variable speed pump can be used, there are further more energy saved by designing proper ice storage system.

Abstract:With the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, fossil energy is becoming increasingly exhausted. Optimizing energy structure and saving energy and reducing consumption are the top priority. With the rapid development of modern science and technology, vacuum refrigerator has been greatly applied and popularized in various fields, such as food production, medicine and biology. However, in the actual operation process, the energy consumption of vacuum refrigerator is high, which does not meet the concept of energy conservation and environmental protection. The inner and outer push–pull structure of the sealing door makes it occupy too much space when opening the door, which is very inconvenient. In this paper, a vacuum refrigeration energy-saving device and the TRNSYS 16 software are used to simulate the energy-saving device. The results show that the device can reduce the number of vacuum refrigeration pumps and greatly reduce the loss of energy consumption. In addition, the new sealing door structure can also reduce the space occupied during its expansion and improve the utilization of space.

Abstract:The fast development of global cold chains has led to a rapid increase in cold storage facilities capacity, in which consumes substantial amounts of energy. However, limited research has been conducted on the energy consumed by cold storage facilities, and the time and economic costs of obtaining long-term measurements of annual energy consumption of cold storage facilities are high. Therefore, in this study, short-term field tests and simulations were combined to establish a transient thermal network model for cold storage, using a specific cold storage case study for validation. The model considers the structure of the hall, which strongly impacts the cooling load. The refrigeration system performance was analyzed on the measured data. Literature and field research have shown temperature range control to be the baseline control strategy used in cold storage refrigeration systems, which ensures that the cold storage temperature remains within the set temperature range at all times. In addition, some researchers have proposed a control strategy based on time-of-use tariff that provides cooling almost throughout the valley period. These two control strategies were applied to frozen and chilled rooms, separately; the results indicated that for both frozen and chilled rooms, the latter control strategy consumes slightly less energy than the former strategy. However, the electricity bill for the latter control strategy are 0.35 and 0.5 times lower than those for the former strategy for frozen rooms and chilled rooms, respectively.

Abstract:This paper presents the design method of electromechanical products for saving energy based on energy flow analysis. The energy transfer model and energy correlation model are built through analyzing the relation of energy flow and products performance in order to address the conflict between energy saving and performance optimization. Based on the energy transfer model, the performance pertinences and performance margins of electromechanical products are analyzed with CAE technology and value engineering theory. Finally, the split air-conditioner's outdoor unit is studied and the design method for saving energy based on energy flow analysis is adopted to solve the conflict between air flow increasing and noise reduction.

Abstract:A transient model of food freezing process in cold store was developed to investigate operation strategy, which was further optimized to minimize the energy consumption. Current food freezing control was based on freezing time which was controlled by airflow distribution, including temperature and velocity in common air-blast cooler. The simulation was conducted on the example of the experimental cold store, considering heat and mass transfer between air, food products and other components. Evaporation temperature of refrigeration system and fan speed of air coolers were chosen as the control variable. Results show that in any specific case of food freezing, an optimal operation strategy can be found to satisfy the freezing time requirement and minimize the energy consumption.

Abstract:In the design and operation of cold storage systems, the problems of saving operation cost and improving global economics of whole systems are equally important. Based on optimal control, yearly dynamic cooling loads and payback period, a method to design an optimal scheme is proposed. An approach to calculate and choose the chiller and cold storage tank for the optimal scheme is provided in the method. The optimal scheme not only minimizes operating cost, but also is the most economical among all the cold storage systems with common control strategies. The method is demonstrated by a case study, in which the optimal scheme is compared on economics with other schemes with chiller priority control or storage priority control. It can be seen that the payback period of the optimal scheme is the shortest.

Abstract:The heat transfer performances of evaporators and condensers significantly affect the efficiency of household refrigerators. For enhancing heat transfer, of the condensers and evaporators, a novel dual energy storage (DES) refrigerator with both heat storage condenser (HSC) and cold storage evaporator (CSE) is proposed. The performance comparison of three kinds of energy storage refrigerators: HSC refrigerator, CSE refrigerator and DES refrigerator is analyzed by establishing dynamic simulation models. According to the simulation results, the DES refrigerator combines the advantage of HSC refrigerator and CSE refrigerator, it has more balanced operational cycle and higher evaporation pressure and temperature. The DES refrigerator shows a best energy saving performance among the three energy storage refrigerators with largest off-time to on-time ratio of 43 and the electrical consumption saving can reach 32%, which is greater than the sum (28%) of the other two kinds of energy storage refrigerators.
