Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between psychosomatic disease and smoking alcohol drinking in fisherman with an age from 20~39 years old in Jiangsu Province. Methods Medical history investigations and physical examinations were made in 54 fishermen with an age from 20~39 years old. They went through a test battery of Russell's Reason for Smoking Questionnaire (RRSQ), the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT Ⅰ) and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test Clinical Investigation Questionnaire (AUDIT Ⅱ). Then, statistical analyses were made on the psychosomatic disease, smoking alcohol drinking and results of questionnaire in fisherman, to explore the relationship between smoking and alcohol drinking. Results WTB For the fishermen group, the percentage of smoking and alcohol drinking, duration and the amount of cigarette and alcohol consumption were obviously much higher than those of the control group ( P 0.01 or 0.001). The incidence of hypertension, hepatitis and conjunctivitis were also much higher than that of the control group ( P 0.05 or 0.001). Research shows that diseases such as,hepatomegalia, ulcer and conjunctivitis are closely correlated with smoking; whereas hepatitis, over cirrhotic, obesity, ulcer and conjunctivitis are obviously correlated with alcohol drinking. Conclusions Smoking and alcohol drinking is a hobby among fishermen, of whom the incidence of psychosomatic disease closely related with smoking and alcohol drinking increases significantly and their physical fitness is greatly impaired by this unhealthy hobby. For this reason, efforts should be made to improve their living and working conditions aboard ship and their psychosocial environment as well.
