Abstract:This study presents the design, synthesis, and application of eight novel thiophene-based acid azo dyes featuring benzoic and salicylic acid acceptors. The synthesized dyes demonstrate versatile light absorption properties, spanning the near UV, visible, and deep red regions. Notably, the thiophene acid azo dyes containing benzoic acid acceptor unit ( AB series dyes) exhibited red-shifted absorption, while their salicylic acid counterparts ( SR series dyes) displayed blue-shifted absorption. The influence of increased donor strength at position 4 of the thiophene ring on absorption properties is systematically explored. Theoretical findings from Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TD-DFT) substantiate the experimental results. Moreover, the dyes are applied to wool and nylon fabrics, displaying excellent dyeability with % exhaustion properties above 70%. The dyed fabrics manifest rich shades, ranging from blue-black to deep orange. Enhanced K/S values are observed for wool-dyed fabrics in the case of SR series dyed fabrics, whereas the AB series dyes show superior results for nylon-dyed fabrics. The dyed fabrics exhibit remarkable light, wash, and rubbing fastness. Notably, nylon-dyed fabrics outperformed wool-dyed fabrics in light and wash fastness. UV protection studies reveal the fabrics' potential to block harmful UV-A and UV-B radiation with excellent UPF ratings.

Abstract:Benzene sulphonamide intermediates and two series of branched azo dyes (one series with H‐Acid as the coupling component, and the other, with a pyrazolone derivative as the coupling component) derived from them were synthesised. The molecular structures, spectroscopic properties and dyeing properties of the dyes obtained have been investigated. The results indicated that these dyes showed one dominant hue, despite each separate branch of chromophore, and, in the first series, four chromophoric groups led to only a threefold increase in the extinction coefficient, while the same comparison in the second series produced a fully additive effect, i.e. a fourfold increase. Compared with the mono‐branch dye of each series, the dyeing properties of the H‐Acid series were improved, whereas the pyrazolone series that were run diversely for the two series were synthesised from different coupling components. In addition, the crystallographic structure of the tri‐branch intermediate showed a non‐coplanar structure, which indicated that the derived dye would perform as the sum of three similar chromophoric units.

Abstract:Aims: This study aimed at synthesizing, analyzing, and utilizing two new direct dyes based on chromene derivatives as the chromophoric moiety in dyeing wool, silk, and cotton, with good color strength, light fastness, and other desirable features. Background: New direct dyes with antimicrobial activities for Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria, and fungus are being developed. These dyes are used on cotton, silk, and wool materials, which have excellent light fastness, washing, rubbing, and perspiration fastness. Methods: All dyeing fabrics were tested for antibacterial activity. As a part of the experiment, parent structure 1 was previously synthesized. Then, diazotization and coupling reactions were used to prepare these dyes. Results and discussion: P-Aminobenzenesulfonic acid (C1) and 4-Aminoazobenzene-3,4'-disulfonic acid (C2) were diazotized in hydrochloric acid with sodium nitrite and then coupled with compound 1 in a molar ratio of 1:1 at 25 °C until the pH was fixed at 5. Finally, the monoazo and diazo direct dyes (D1 and D2) were prepared. Conclusion: Wool, silk, and cotton materials benefit from the increased antibacterial activities and dyeing qualities (exhaustion and fixing) of synthetic dyes. Furthermore, they offer excellent fastness qualities (light, rubbing, and perspiration).

Abstract:A series of blue crosslinking dyes EDCD, DTCD, TPCD, PVAmCD and PAAmCD were synthesized by the reaction of 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone with ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, tetraethylethylenediamine, polyvinylamine and polyallyl amine. These crosslinking dyes can be classified into two kinds, i.e. small crosslinking dyes and polymeric crosslinking dyes. These dyes were crosslinked to cotton via covalent bond by a new crosslinker NSC prepared from 4,5-diamino-2,7-naphthalenedisulphonate and cyanuric chloride. The effects of crosslinking dyeing conditions, such as NSC concentration, curing temperature and pH of crosslinking bath on the dye fixation were investigated in detail. At optimum conditions, the fixations of EDCD, DTCD, TPCD, PVAmCD and PAAmCD using NSC as a crosslinker on cotton were 91.2%, 95.6%, 99.1%, 99.4% and 99.2%, respectively. The wrinkle recovery of crosslinking dyeing was also studied. These results indicated that the polymeric crosslinking dyes showed better performance than the small ones.

Abstract:Benzidine was coupled with ethyl cyanoacetate, and malononitrile, to give azo-hydrazo products which in turn were cyclized by using hydrazine and phenyl hydrazine to give 4,4'-([1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diylbis(hydrazin-2-yl-1-ylidene))bis pyrazole derivatives 5–7 . These compounds were identified by various spectral analysis. The examination of 0.1 M NaOH and 0.1 M HCl in DMF revealed that the λ max of the synthesized dyes are quite sensitive to pH variation and slightly affected by the coupler moieties. Utilizing the dispersion agent DYEWELL-002, polyester fabric (PE-F) was dyed in water. The color strength (K/S), its summation (K/Ssum), dye exhaustion (%E) and reflectance values were measured and discussed. The DFT method estimates the chemical descriptor parameters of the titled dyes, using B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level to investigate the performance of dyes as well as to postulate a mechanism of dyeing process.

Abstract:Some heteropolyfunctional reactive dyes (5a-5n) containing poly(monochlorotriazine and sulfatoethylsulfone) reactive systems have been synthesized by coupling of tetrazotized 4,4'-methylene bis(2-carboxy aniline) with various 4-(ethylsulfurate sulfonyl)anilino cyanurated coupling components (4a-4n) such as H-acid, Gamma acid, J-acid, N-methyl J-acid, N-phenyl J-acid, Chicago acid, S-acid, K-acid, Bronner acid, Peri acid, Laurent acid, Koch acid, Naphthionic acid, and Tobias acid. The synthesized dyes were characterized by nitrogen elemental analysis, IR, and 1H-NMR spectra. They were applied on wool, silk, and cotton fibers. Their dyeing properties, fastness properties, and colorimetric data (L*, a*, b*, C*, H*, and K/S) have also been investigated.

Abstract:New azo Schiff base disperse dyes based on a chromene moiety were synthesized by reacting (2-amino-7-hydroxy-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4 H-chromene-3 carbonitrile) and(2-amino-4-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-7-hydroxy-4 H-chromene-3-carbonitrile), with vanillin and ninhydrin, producing new chromene Schiff base derivatives, which in turn were coupled with 2-chloro-4-nitroaniline diazonium salt to give new 4 azo disperse dyes (1–4). The structures of the prepared dyes were confirmed using elemental analysis, 1 HNMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and IR. The synthesized dyes were applied to polyester and nylon fabrics using different dyeing techniques: high temperature- high pressure, and ultrasonic dyeing methods. The highest K/S values for all investigated dyes were achieved usinga high temperature-high pressure dyeing technique. Also, the color reflectance of all synthesized dyes with different dyeing shades (1%, 2%, and 3%) was obtained. The fastness properties of the dyed samples using the investigated dyes showed good color fastness toward light, washing, rubbing, and perspiration fastness. The presence of a chromene moiety and Schiff base in the investigated dyes promotes a higher antimicrobial activity on nylon and polyester fabrics against all tested bacteria (E. coli gram-negative and Staphylococcus aureus gram-positive) and two fungi, Aspergillus Niger and Candida albicans.

Abstract:Three reactive dyes, with bisbenzimidazole as the chromophore and bischlorotriazine as the active group, were synthesized and characterized. The photophysical properties of the dyes were discerned by UV-vis absorption, emission, and density functional theory calculations. All the dyes exhibited two absorption bands in the UV-vis region. The main band at 270 nm was attributed to the intramolecular pi-pi* transition, whereas the absorption at 360 nm was assigned to the pi-pi* mixed intramolecular charge transfer transitions. As the planarity of the benzimidazole components was enhanced, the energy gap of these dyes decreased, which caused a redshift. The relationship between the structure and dyeing properties of the dyes was also studied from the perspective of dyeing depth and fastness. The results showed that these dyes can be dyed on silk effectively, the dyeing depths were in the range of 0.08 similar to 35 under salt-free conditions and the dry/wet rubbing fastness of these dyes could reach grades 4-5. In summary, these reactive dyes could be potential dyes for salt-free dyeing applications.

Abstract:Two new homobifunctional triazine reactive dyes, derivatives of H acid and anthraquinone, containing a fragment of 4,4′-diaminostilbene-2,2′-disulfonic acid have been synthesized. They and their dichlorotriazine dye intermediates were evaluated for applicability on textiles and paper. The degree of exhaustion and fixation of the dyes and the fastness properties of dyed cotton samples of washing, acidic and alkaline perspiration, dry and wet rubbing, and light fastness were assessed. Offset printing paper composition, consisting of bleached softwood and hardwood cellulose fibers in a ratio of 1:1, was dyed with the investigated reactive dyes. The hydrophobicity of the paper was increased by the addition of alkyl ketene dimer. Natural calcium carbonate was used as a filler. The main mechanical and hydrophobic properties of the dyed papers were examined. The color coordinates of the examined paper and textile samples were determined using the CIE Lab color space. The photostability of the dyes in water solution was studied. It was found that the introduction of a fragment of 4,4′-diaminostilbene-2,2′-disulfonic acid in the dye molecule increases the photostability by 10%. As a conclusion of the studies, it was found that both reactive dyes could have applications in textile and paper production. Better results were obtained for the homobifunctional triazine reactive dyes.

Abstract:In order to develop motifs with the potential applications as drugs and dyes, a series of novel quinoline–pyrimidine monoazo hybrids have been synthesized via the Biginelli reaction followed by diazo coupling. Molecular docking study of the synthesized compounds was performed against Topoisomerase IV from E. coli K-12 and CYP51 from C. albicans . The ADMET properties of the synthesized compounds were also investigated in order to understand the efficacy of drug candidates. The compounds bearing naphthol and orcinol substitutions showed excellent antifungal and antibacterial properties. The α-naphthol derivative displayed the highest binding affinity score (8.46 against Topoisomerase IV and 7.50 against CYP51) and an acceptable drug score (0.53) in toxicological and pharmacokinetics studies. The orcinol derivative showed a very good docking score but a low drug score in the ADMET study. Additionally, the dye ability of the synthesized compounds was assessed by dyeing cotton and silk fabrics. The compound containing a paracetamol moiety displayed excellent performance in terms of color and rubbing fastness and is promising for use in the textile industry for dyeing clothes.

Abstract:Alkali-resistant disperse dyes have garnered significant interest due to their numerous advantages in alkaline one-bath dyeing procedures. Herein, six cyano-based disperse dyes (D1-D6) with either 2-aminobenzothiazole or 2-amino-6-nitrobenzothiazole, as well as N-substituted anilines as coupling components, were designed and synthesized to investigate the effect of substituents and π-π conjugation of the alkali-resistant stability of dyes. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to monitor the dye hydrolysis behavior, indicating that dyes with strong intramolecular π-π conjugation and bulky benzyl substituents on the n-phenylamine substituent exhibited good alkaline resistance. The hydrolysis processes of cyano disperse dyes under alkaline conditions were consistent with S N 2 Nucleophilic substitution, and followed first-order reaction kinetics. Furthermore, PET fabrics were dyed with D1-D3 under various alkaline conditions, proving that D2 and D3 possessed good dyeing performance even under a 5 g/L NaOH dye bath. Our study contributes valuable insights into the relationship between molecular structure and alkali resistance in cyanide disperse dyes, offering practical guidance for enhancing the performance of such dyes.

Abstract:A series of novel reactive dyes D1-D3 based on vinamidinium salt were designed and synthesized. Bis(monochlorotriazine) was introduced as the reactive group and sodium sulfonate was the water-soluble group. Their photophysical properties were studied systematacially. The strong and sharp ground-state absorption peak in the 250-320 nm range in the UV-vis absorption spectrum of the aqueous solution could be attributed to the 1 pi-pi* transition by the parent structure of the dyes, and the relatively broad absorption peak in the range of 300-650 nm could be attributed to the 1 pi-pi* mixed intramolecular charge transfer. By applying this series of reactive dyes to the dyeing of four fabrics (silk, cotton, polyester/cotton blends, and polyester), the dyeing depths were in the range of 5.2-28.6 under salt-free conditions. The results show that D3 with higher planarity can increase the dyeing depth. At length, fastening tests on dyed cotton fabrics and silk showed that this series of reactive dyes had a color fastness between grades 3 and 5 for abrasion and soap-washing. Abstract:The dyes are synthesized by 3-Amino-2-thioxo-4thiazolidinone (N-Amino rhodanine) with glutaraldehyde or terephthalaldehyde by 2:1 mole to form a and b then coupled with diazonium salts p- Amino benzenesulfonic acid and 4-Amino 3,4-disulfoazobenzeneazobenzene by 2:1 to form new different bis-mono-azo a1 and b1 and diazo a2 and b2 acid dyes. Therefore, the synthesized dyes were applied to both silk and wool fabric materials. We also evaluated the antimicrobial susceptivity of these dyed fabrics to two model gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Background: The new synthetic acid dyes, which have antimicrobial susceptivity to gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, are mostly used on silk and wool fabrics which are excellent for lightfastness, washing, rubbing and sweating fastness. Objectives: The present studies aimed at synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial susceptivity to gramnegative and gram-positive bacteria. Methods: The infra-red spectrum was recorded using an Infra-red spectrometer, Perkin Elmer/1650 FTIR. The 1H-NMR spectra were recorded using a Varian 400MHz spectrometer. The absorbance of the dyes was measured in the ultraviolet-visible region between 300 and 700 nm by a UNICAM UV spectrophotometer. The dye uptake by wool and silk fabrics was measured using a Shimadzu UV-2401PC (UV/V is spectrophotometer at λmax) before and after dyeing. The produced dyes were found to have a good antimicrobial susceptivity to a variety of bacteria. Results and discussion: The compounds a1, b1, a2 &b2 show good antimicrobial activity toward gramnegative (E. coli), gram-positive (S. aurous) bacteria. The data showed that exhaustion and fastness activities of silk and wool dyed fabrics were both very high. Conclusion: In this work, we prepared newly synthesized acid dyes based on 3-Amino-2-thioxo-4- thiazolidinone derivatives and used them for dyeing wool and silk fabrics. Both synthetic dyes have shown good lightfastness and fastness properties. Also, all dyes have shown a good antimicrobial effect.
Investigation of novel Indoline azo disperse dyes: synthesis, DFT simulation, and dyeing performance on PET and PA fabrics

Abstract:The feasibility of chemical reaction of Indoline were analyzed with density functional theory (DFT) simulation. A series of azo disperse dyes using Indoline as coupling component were synthesized, namely D1-D6. The synthesized dyes were measured by UV-Visible, FT-IR, 1H-NMR and MS spectroscopy. DFT simulation was applied to analysis spectrometric properties of designed dyes. Dyeing of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and nylon (PA) fabrics were assessed and compared. The synthesized Indoline azo disperse dyes exhibited yellow to red hue on PET and PA fabrics. Deep shades were achieved with increased dye concentration for D1 and D2 for both PET and PA fabrics. Excellent rubbing fastness and good sublimation fastness were achieved. Interrelation between dyes structure and dyeing performance on PET and PA fabrics were investigated using DFT calculation.

Abstract:Azo dyes are widely used for dyeing polyester fabrics but require optimization of properties like color strength and fastness. Fourteen novel disperse azo dyes were synthesized from 2,3-naphthalenediol and aniline derivatives to examine their potential for polyester dyeing. The dyes were prepared via diazotization and coupling reactions and characterized using FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and elemental analysis. Furthermore, several techniques were employed to study the azo-hydrazone tautomerism, including UV-Vis spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and computational methods. DFT computations revealed hydrazone tautomers were more stable than azo tautomers. The prepared azo dyes were applied on polyester fabrics at 2% depth using a high temperature pressure technique in water utilizing DYEWELL-002 as a dispersing agent. The color shading of dyed polyester samples ranged from peach amber to apple of my eye, depending on the coupler moieties. The fastness properties, assessed using a grey scale of dyed polyester fabrics, indicated very good to excellent grades for most dyes. Additionally, measurements of color strength (K/S), dye exhaustion (%E), as well as colorimetric colors CILAB of dyed polyester fabrics values, were measured and discussed in terms of the effect of substituents. The findings provide new insights into structure-performance relationships to design optimized disperse dyes for polyester coloration. Overall, the synthesized aryldiazenyl dyes are promising candidates for dyeing polyester fabrics across a spectrum of shades with good fastness properties.
Experimental and Computational Study of Novel Pyrazole Azo Dyes as Colored Materials for Light Color Paints

Abstract:This paper presents the synthesis of eight new pyrazole azo dyes using ethyl 5-amino-3-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate as the diazotization component and various active methylene derivatives as coupling components. These new azo dyes were characterized by spectroscopic (FT-IR, UV-VIS), and spectrometric (1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS) analyses. The dye structures were modeled by the MMFF94s force field and quantum chemical density functional theory (DFT) calculations using the B3LYP functional and the 6-311G(d,p) basis set, in the gas phase. Weak electrostatic hydrogen bonds for the azo and hydrazo dye tautomers were found in the ground state. The CIS, TD (using the B3LYP and M06-2X functionals), and ZINDO methods were used to estimate the dye UV-VIS spectra in ethanol, which were compared with the experimental ones. The anti-configuration arrangement of the π-bonds and the presence of the prevalent hydrazo dye tautomer were supported by the computed 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra. A good accordance between the experimental and predicted absorption maxima and chemical shifts was observed. Color investigations using the CIEL*a*b* space were conducted for all dyes in powder and for their mixtures in water-based acrylic resins. The results confirm the newly synthesized dyes' color properties and that they might be used for light color paints in the varnishes industry.

Abstract:A fixing agent SBNF with sulfonic group for acid dyes was synthesized using bisphenol A,2-naphthol,formaldehyde as the main raw materials.The influences of reactant mass ration,reaction time and temperature,the dosage of fixing agent,fixing time,pH of fixing solution on the fixation effect were discussed.The synthesis process and application technology were optimized and the optimum synthetic process was as follows: m(sulfonation intermediateⅠ)∶m(sulfonation intermediateⅡ)∶m(formaldehyde)=2.0∶1.0∶1.0,reacted at 100 ℃ for 6 h;and the optimal application technology was: 2.5%(owf) of SBNF fixing agent,10%(owf) of formaldehyde scavenger,pH=3.0,fixed acid dyed polyamide fabric at 80 ℃ for 30 min.The fixed fabric had fairly good color fastness,such as 3~4-level to wet rubbing,4-level to dry rubbing and 4-level to soaping.

Abstract:Several diaminobenzene and aminobenzene intermediates based on sulfonamide and azo dyes derived therefrom were synthesized and characterized by FTIR, MS and 1H NMR. These azo dyes have been used to dye cotton and wool fibre, further their spectroscopic data and application properties were estimated. Especially, it was found that the properties of these derived azo dyes are affected by the sulfonamide substituted bridged groups between the two benzene rings of the corresponding intermediates. In addition, the crystallographic structure of a new type of 1,4-bis-(4-amino-benzenesulfonyl)-piperazine intermediate was determined by X-ray diffraction, which reveals that its molecular configuration is non-planar.

Abstract:The properties and the diazotisation process of 1-ethyl-5-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-5-amino-2-pyridone were described. The conditions of the coupling reaction were also discussed and a series of new azo dyes using 1-ethyl-5-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-3-amino-2-pyridone as diazo components were synthesized. The absorption properties of these new azo dyes were investigated in various solvents and the mixture solvent of chloroform/DMSO with different volume ratios.
