Abstract:The microphase adsorption-spectral correction technique was applied to the study of aggregation of phloxine B(PB) on CTMAB. In a nearly neutral solution of pH 6, PB molecules carries negative charges, it has a relatively strong ability to be adsorbed by molecules of some material having opposite charges, as for example the cationic surfactant CTMAB. The experimental results showed that in a solution of the cationic surfactant, (e.g. CTAMB), the positive electrostatic charges were distributed evenly on the surface of the long carbon chain of the surfactant molecules, forming a micro-points electrostatic field, and the probe molecules (e.g. PB), carrying negative charges were thus adsorbed firmly on the surface of the carbon chain. And due to the small space of the microphase between the carbon chains, only monolayer arrangement of the probe molecules could be accomplished, which was conformed to the theory of langmuir monolayer adsorption. It was found that the mole ratio between PB and CTMAB was 2 to 1. The adsorption constant of this aggregate was 3.46×10 5(15℃) and its molar absorptivity e 565nm was 1.14×10 5L·mol -1·cm -1. The degree of aggregation was found to be (Pb 2·CTMAB) 78. By the method described, the content of cationic surfactant in the aggregate can be determined in the presence of EDTA.
