Abstract:Using the theoretical framework of ‘human–computer interface hierarchy model’, an experiment was conducted to test the effects of two kinds of decision support information on the process of decision–making. Thirty–two subjects with prior knowledge of computer systems participated in the study. The results suggest that different kinds of decision support information (general-dimensional vs specific-causal information) greatly influenced information-search patterns and decision information-processing. The decision support information significantly changed the cognitive strategies in decision-making towards a more comprehensive information search behaviour, i.e., a clear pattern-directed processing. The implications of the results of the experiment are highlighted in relation to the design of more effective decision support systems for industry.

Abstract:The importance of research for rapid and automated model construction of decision support systems is prominent and recognized. In the literature, research on model construction methods has been conducted using either component-based approaches or artificial intelligent approaches; however, these methods are usually incapable of handling dynamic constrains under different situations. To obtain suitable models for practical applications, we propose an new structure of object-oriented intelligent agents for decision support systems in production scheduling to help the users perform decision-making. We also describe how this intelligent agent incorporates with decision support system to construct problem-solving models.

Abstract:Quality management is an important part for enterprise management. There are some main problems concerning with quality decision and analysis, such as production scheme, purchase plan, formula, quality plan and quality inspection specification. For providing reliable and scientific decision support to reduce randomness and blindness, a framework of quality-oriented decision support system (QDSS) was given. Data warehouse (DW), which overcomes disadvantages of traditional database (DB), was adopted. Models and methods used for decision and analysis, i.e. statistical analysis, method of fixing sample size, sensitivity analysis, multivariate linear regression model and fuzzy judgement matrix, were presented. Main process of QDSS was introduced.

Abstract:Take TFT-LCD industry as an example, the multi-stage production planning in supply chain is studied in this paper. The mixed integer programming model for production planning considers the material cost in different time and the inventory cost, supposes that the market requirement and price forecast for each production are given, the maximum profit and the production plan for each factory will be obtained. Besides, a decision support system is exploited here. With the system, some what-if analysis can be done conveniently.

Abstract:This paper deals with the optimization problem faced by the manufacturing engineering department of an international automotive company, concerning its supply chain design (i.e., decisions regarding which plants to open, how many components to produce, and the logistic flow from production to assembly plants). The intrinsic characteristics of the problem, such as stochasticity, the high number of products and components, and exogenous factors, make it complex to formulate and solve the mathematical models. Thus, new decision support systems integrating human choices and fast solution algorithms are needed. In this paper, we present an innovative and successful use case of such an approach, encompassing the decision-maker as an integral part of the optimization process. Moreover, the proposed approach allows the managers to conduct what-if analyses in real-time, taking robust decisions with respect to future scenarios, while shortening the time needed. As a byproduct, the proposed methodology requires neither the definition of a probability distribution nor the investigation of the user’s risk aversion.

Abstract:Given the finite manufacturing resources available on a shop floor, process family planning has been well recognized as an effective means of achieving product family production efficiency. In view of the fundamental issues in process family planning and the potential of knowledge-based systems (KBSs) in solving complex problems, in this paper, we put forward a prototypical KBS to support process family planning by automatically generating production processes. The XML-based knowledge representation is adopted to alleviate the difficulties in modeling complex product and process family data and planning knowledge. To cope with constraint handling, a mechanism is designed to facilitate the generation of production rules, which model various planning constraints. Planning production processes for a truck family is used to demonstrate the potential of the prototypical KBS.

Abstract:We propose a Hierarchical Decision Support System (HDSS) for production planning which enables production planners to utilize complex and structured planning algorithms interactively with no difficulty. The suggested system represents a higher level planning tool than MRP: namely, it encompasses aggregate planning, family and end item planning levels. The HDSS is integrated with MRP through the Master Production Schedule (at the end item level) which is transferred to MRP. The feasibility at all planning levels is preserved through database manipulations which enable communication among different planning hierarchies. The key features of the proposed system are the ease of data manipulation and the highly interactive nature of the system provided by the user-interface. The dialogue management system hides the theoretical background of the model base consisting of multi-optional aggregate planning models and disaggregation algorithms used at the family and end item planning levels.

Abstract:Under the circumstance of mass production,in order to solve the problems,such as the unstability of the workshop quality,high percent defective and more wastes,the workshop quality stability control system was put forward.The principle and the functions of the system were constructed.In this system,the workshop quality stability was analyzed from the view of workshop process quality and product quality.Because of the complexity of relationship between workshop process quality and product quality,the method of association analysis based on the grey system theory between workshop process quality and product quality was developed.With the system and method,how to find the workshop process factors which influence product quality and the control of workshop quality stability can be realized.

Abstract:With the rapid development of enterprise informationization, the application of decision support system has been the focus of interest of recent studies due to its high-efficiency. In order to realize the decision support of enterprise production management, we established integration model of production information based on heterogeneous databases, designed data mart of production management, in the design of data mart, we discussed the data model and the realization process of the data mart. We put forward the architecture of the system, studied the decision scheme, layered structure and decision rules, and then developed the enterprise production management decision support system. Enterprise production efficiency can be improved through the application of the system.

Abstract:Under the circumstances that the demand is uncertain, furthermore, the demand sometimes cannot be satisfied by the production, the paper studies the production and maintenance control problem of failure prone production systems. For the hybrid system, a so-called double level hedging point control policy considering purchasing extra production or maintenance capacity is presented, which has strong dynamic characteristics. By the method that studies the problem from over the finite horizon to over the infinite horizon, meanwhile, utilizing a decomposition method, the corresponding hedging points are obtained respectively. The numerical comparison specifies and to some extent testifies the method.

Abstract:In the current competitive environment, it is crucial for manufacturers to make the best decisions in the shortest time, in order to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the manufacturing systems. These decisions reach from the strategic level to tactical and operational production planning and control. In this context, elaborating intelligent decisions support systems (DSS) that are capable of integrating a wide variety of models along with data and knowledge resources has become promising. This paper proposes an intelligent DSS for quality control planning. The DSS is a recommender system (RS) that helps the decision maker to select the best control scenario using two different approaches. The first is a manual choice using a multi-criteria decision making method. The second is an automatic recommendation based on case-based reasoning (CBR) technique. Furthermore, the proposed RS makes it possible to continuously update the control plans in order to be adapted to the actual process quality situation. In so doing, CBR is used for learning the required knowledge in order to improve the decision quality. A numerical application is performed in a real case study in order to illustrate the feasibility and practicability of the proposed DSS.

Abstract:A science & technology(S&T) planning evaluation system and the decision supporting framework for S&T planning are presented to effectively plan S&T.The S&T planning process includes three sub-processes: planning preparation,technology roadmapping and technical planning.The candidate domains and technologies are identified and proposed by decision makers in the planning preparation phase.Then the technologists,sociologist,entrepreneur and economy/investing experts are organized to forecast and comprehensively evaluate these technologies depending on the criteria and evaluation indicators,and thus the technology roadmaps are built.Based on the results from the technology roadmapping phase,the proposal projects and their investing solutions are derived through the gap analysis.Finally,a web-based S & T planning decision supporting system prototype is demonstrated to support the S & T planning decision through a case of information technologies used in the manufacturing.

Abstract:Successful capacity planning and production scheduling is built on the understanding of market opportunities and the costs of capacity, production, sourcing, inventory, and distribution over the planning horizon. Increasingly, companies attempt to integrate capacity planning and production scheduling to improve upon the commonly used sequential decision process, but most related research works fail to capture the granularity of actual operational decisions and therefore may overlook potential cost-saving opportunities. The contributions of this study include: (1) a detailed integrated capacity and production scheduling model with multiple discrete and continuous options for varying short and medium-term capacity, (2) a heuristic algorithm that exploits the problem structure to solve the nonlinear mixed integer problem, (3) an evaluation of the value of the integrated model relative to traditional practice and its sensitivity to parameters, (4) a review of past contributions to integrated planning, particularly focused on IJPR, and (5) a case study originated from a world-class automobile manufacturer illustrating how the model can be applied and confirming its value relative to hierarchical and less detailed modelling approaches.

Abstract:A Decision support system (DSS) is an advanced phase of management information system (MIS). which can be developed into an intelligent DSS by introducing AI (artificial intelligence) into it to provide decision support on the level of an expert. The deep KB (knowledge base) keeps atom-knowledge or macro-knowledge that can combine with a reasoning machine together to accomplish intelligent decision through the use of shallow knowledge of the combination of atom-knowledge or macro-knowledge. The shallow KB is divided into dynamic part and static one, to achieve steady shallow knowledge support and renewable shallow knowledge support. The data structure of deep knowledge base has the form of hypertext for the convenience of atom-knowledge and macro-knowledge and deep knowledge acquisition.
