Abstract:Deep sea drilling core detection and analysis is a convenient technology deployed by drilling platforms or geological exploration vessels. This paper develops an in-situ ultrasonic detection unit which can be combined with long distance pressure-holding transfer of hydrate cores, based on the original Pressure-core On-board Transfer and Analysis System (POTAS). The screw-in design of transducers allows for rapid adjustments in measurement distance during hydrate core transfer, while effectively solving the problems of high-pressure resistance. The drilling depth and core diameter are firstly used as parameters for wave velocity calculation. The method simplifies the solution and error analysis of in-situ ultrasonic measurement of hydrate pressure cores under complex drilling operation conditions. The introduction of two engineering-related parameters takes full account of the influence of sedimental burial depths and drilling tool selection on in-situ ultrasonic detection, and provides important support for ultrasonic measurements of hydrate pressure cores.
