Despite the growing interest in cross-cultural research in the service encounters literature, little empirical research has been conducted on the effects of consumers' perceived service failure of inter-cultural service encounters. This study was designed to close this gap by investigating cultural-based service failure in intercultural service encounters and explore the relation between service failure and customer complaint behavior in a context of Chinese hotels. The results of this empirical study suggest that service failure is composed of service process failure and service outcome failure. For foreign guests in Chinese hotels, service outcome failure can easily lead to customer complaint than service process failure. Furthermore, service process failure (responsibility and other guests' inference) is positively related to customer voice response, and perceived service failure of foreigner guests produce a weakness effect on the third-party response of customer complaint.

There have been conflicting explanations of how customer participation affects service providers' job stress in service industry. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between customer participation and service providers' job stress. Use survey data collected from 172 teachers at university in China to do correlation and regression analyses by SPSS. Empirical results of survey data indicate that customer participation is negatively related to workload and job stress. It shows the more extensive the customer participation, the greater the amount of work that can be shifted to the customer which remove some of the service providers' workload to reduce their job stress. So the paper supports that it is appropriate to explain job stress basing from the perspective of partial employees. Implications of these findings for managing customer participation, as well as future research directions, are subsequently discussed.

Abstract:The present study argued that traditional customer behavior studies that focused on either organizational level (e.g. HRM policy, service climate) or individual level construct (e.g. customer orientation) cannot account for the variation of service performance adequately. Aiming to increase our theoretical understanding on prediction of service outcomes, we adopted a new research construct from organizational behavior field which combined the individual characteristics of service provider and organizational characteristics of the employee located; in the other word, person-organization fit was administrated to predict front-line employee's job performance in several service industries. The new predictor showed a promising effect on predicting service provider's performance; further, based on multiple regression analysis, person-organization fit showed that it account for significant incremental variance over the traditional predictor-customer orientation on prediction of service provider' performance. We argued that promoting and cultivating P-O fit in the organizational setting would be beneficial for service industry. Finally, theoretical prospect and practical implications were discussed.

The capability to acquire, assimilate, transfer and utilize new knowledge is considered as one of the main sources of the competitive advantage of an organization. This study examined the role of absorptive capacity in the relationship between human resource practices and innovation performance. The empirical tests in a sample of 154 Chinese firms indicated that HR practices were positively related to absorptive capacity which, in turn, had a positive effect on innovation performance. Implications of these results and future research were discussed.

This paper evaluates the instructors' performance with the identical degree analysis based on Set Pair Analysis (SPA) principles. And it puts forward an index system and reference scale and discusses the characteristics of applying the index model as well. This method can objectively evaluate the system to determine the weight of each index, easy to handle non-uniform dimension between the various indices. It has already been used in practice to evaluate instructors' performance, and the result shows it is quite effective.

With increasing international competition and rapid technological change, innovation has become the driving force for organizations to win sustainable competitive advantage. Given the dominant role of leadership in the workplace, prior research has suggested that leadership styles have substantial impact on innovation. However, potential mechanism of these effects has not yet been adequately addressed. To shed some light on this issue, this study investigated the relationship between different leadership styles and team innovation with the mediating effects of knowledge sharing and team communication. Using data from 482 employees and their supervisors in the PRC, the findings suggested that knowledge sharing and team communication completely mediated the negative relationship between authoritarian leadership and team innovation, and partially mediated the contributions of transformational leadership and benevolent leadership to team innovation. Implications for the adoption of leadership styles and innovation management were discussed.

We examine the role of this strategy in Chinese mutual fund families and find the similar result as Chen and Lai (2010). We find Reputation stretching increases net fund flows to fund families, and past performance of prestigious managers can persist in new funds. Meanwhile, performance of new funds run by managers with track records is better than those run by managers without track records. In all, reputation stretching strategy benefits both fund families and investors.
