Abstract:In industrial fault diagnosis, a common scenario arises where it is not possible to obtain training samples specific to the target faults for building a diagnostic model. This limitation hinders the effective application of traditional data-driven or small-sample diagnostic methods. To address this challenge, we propose a zero-shot learning approach based on attribute transfer for industrial fault diagnosis. To begin, we formulate manually defined fault descriptions to provide additional information about the target faults. By combining these descriptions with available fault samples, we introduce adaptive independent component analysis to extract attribute-related features. Next, we establish an attribute learner using the naive Bayes method to capture the relationship between attributes and extracted features, rather than the correlation between fault labels and features. The attribute learner, well-trained through this process, is transferred to the target faults using Bayesian inference to predict attribute values without requiring additional fault-related training samples. Subsequently, fault labels are inferred by determining the minimum distance between predicted and actual attribute values. Finally, the Tennessee-Eastman process is utilized to test the effectiveness of the proposed fault diagnosis method using zero-shot learning. The outcomes show that this approach accurately detects faults without needing any relevant training data.
