Abstract:During 2020-2022,the world experienced a La Nina event that lasted for three consecutive years,referred to as multi-year La Nina[1].Originating in the tropical Pacific,a La Nina event exerts far-reaching impacts that severely disrupt global weather patterns,agriculture,and ecosystems[2].Compared with a single-year La Nina event,a multi-year La Nina like the 2020-2022 event would lead to prolonged and cumulative impacts.Determining how the multi-year La Nina may change under global warming has been one of the most important and long-standing issues in climate science but remained unsolved.Now,writing in Nature,Geng et al.[3]reported that multi-year La Nina events will likely occur more frequently in a warmer 21st century.
