Abstract:The wireless charging of underwater vehicles by underwater docking stations is an important application of Inductively Coupled Power Transfer (ICPT) technology. At present, most of the underwater docking stations are designed for rotary structures and suitable for single-direction docking. Aiming at the underwater docking and charging of Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV), a ring-shaped coupler mechanism is proposed in this paper. The charging station adopts a cylindrical ring structure, on which coil segments of the primary side are evenly distributed. The bottom of the ROV is equipped with a multi-joint mechanical claw, on which coil segments of the secondary side are wound. Through the action of ROV mechanical claw, ring-coupling is realized between coils on two sides for wireless power transfer. Such docking system supports omnidirectional docking in the horizontal direction. A prototype is established and experiments are carried out in a water tank. It is proven that the system is able to achieve 45 W wireless power transmission, of which maximum efficiency is 57%.
