Abstract:The safety and stability of high-speed train operations are of utmost importance; however, windy areas often pose risks to train operations. Meanwhile, ensuring a reliable power supply for safety monitoring sensors in these regions remains challenging. This paper presents the design of a Sustainable Wind Barrier (SWB) system, which aims to address this challenge by harvesting wind energy to power the sensors while mitigating the impact of lateral side winds on high-speed trains. The SWB system consists primarily of two main components: the Wind Barrier Energy Harvesting (WBEH) system and the Wind Speed Safety Monitoring (WSSM) system. The WBEH enhances the power generation and improves stability by utilizing a coaxial counter-rotating two-stage Savonius wind turbine. Furthermore, the deflector efficiency input module enhances the efficiency of wind energy harvester and improves the wind-blocking effect of the SWB. The energy management module converts the harvested wind energy into electricity, which is then efficiently managed and stored to power the equipment along the railway. The WSSM system primarily comprises a LabVIEW-based monitoring terminal and real-time data acquisition, enabling the monitoring of wind speeds along the railway by acquiring real-time voltage signals. Simulation results demonstrate a 19.13% increase in the maximum power coefficient achieved by the deflector efficiency mechanism. Experimental findings reveal that a single energy harvesting device generates a maximum average output power of 2.3 W, effectively supplying power to the safety monitoring sensors installed along railway tracks and bridges.
