Abstract:The coastal and offshore bridges are suffering severe degradation of durability because of the degenerate material and persistent action during working period,which cause the consequence of increscent maintenance expense and failure risk.This paper summarizes the state-of-art research on durability of coastal and offshore reinforced concrete bridges.The effect of environmental action,load action,and local working circumstance on the durability are discussed in detail.Several issues for future research in this domain are brought forth based on the analysis of current investigation on bridge evaluation and life prediction.

Abstract:Underwater structure of bridge is the substantial bearing member of bridge and its structural status includes durability status and safety status. This paper analyzes the performance degradation model and disease features of underwater concrete structural material, and suggests major evaluation factors for structure status, and sets up structure status evaluation model based on analysis hierarchy process. An underwater structure of a real bridge is used to verify the evaluation result of this model. The verification result shows the evaluation result of the models may well demonstrate the true status of underwater structure, and it has practical application value.

Abstract:Bridge members always work with damage.To study the influence of corrosion damage on the crack development of bridge members after reinforcement,a fatigue experiment is carried out to simulate the members under overloading.The results indicts that CFRP reinforcement can effectively improve the crack resistance of reinforced concrete members.However,corrosion cracks width increases quickly in serious state.It is suggested that corrosion cracks should be handled in seious state.

Abstract:Aiming at the fault and maintenance strategy of concrete bowstring arch bridge,the article analyzes the results based on the grades and vulnerability of components for the bowstring arch bridge from the design and maintenance ideas of the given service life of structure,and looks for the components not only important but also easily damaged in the structures.These components are firstly and importantly plaid attention in the selection of bridge design and maintenance order for realizing the special maintenance.The security and the economy are also weighed to reach the aim of reducing the maintenance cost and efficiently prolonging the service life of bridge.

Abstract:Evaluating for the durability of existing concrete bridge structures is crucial for appraising whether their performance accords with design requirements.The existing concrete bridges structures are partitioned into four constituents,i.e.,superstructure,substructure,support,and annexes.Farther,the method how to partition every one of these four constituents into members and how to choose the representational form of every kind of member based on key member for durability is proposed.And test indexes including environmental ones for durability of members are chosen according to their factors affecting durability.Thus three-level-multi-index model for evaluating durability of existing concrete bridges structures is built up.And in terms of five typical durability states defined the bridges structures will certainly exist in their life cycles,five fuzzy durability classes are partitioned for every level,which are good,just soso,bad,worse,and dangerous respectively.Based on fuzzy mathematic theory,the optimum interval membership function is used to decide the memberships of test indexes of every durability class of members after the qualitative indexes are transformed into quantitative indexes.The CMFS method based on credibility matrix and frequency statistic method is used to obtain weights and synthetic membership score considered as class judgment standard.Based on the analysis above,the flow chart for evaluating durability is presented and an evaluating program is compiled in Matlab language,which is applied to four actual bridge engineering projects in Zhejiang Province.And the evaluating results according well with actual results prove that the method proposed in this paper for evaluating the durability of existing concrete bridges structures is believable,feasible and in reasonable.Moreover,a software named as system(version number 1.0) for evaluating the durability of existing concrete bridges structures is developed and applied to bridges management system in Zhejiang Province to verify the system efficiency.

Abstract:In current reliability analysis and design of structures, the influence of durability on structural safety and serviceability is not yet taken into account, due to the lack of durability failure criterion, and the differences in understanding durability concepts. In view of these problems, this paper analyzes the basic concepts of safety,serviceability and durability and clarifies their connotations, from the perspective of the life-cycle design of structure.And through the analysis of the influence of various factors on structural resistance changes, and the process of structural performance with time changes, the authors indicate that during the life-cycle of structure, the durability of different levels influencing on structural safety and serviceability will produce different effect, and the relationships among the three are interactive, and the durability of structures is redefined. Besides, the new idea of performance based limit state design is proposed, which indicates that the limit state of durability can be defined based on different performance requirements. The failure probability of structure or service life is seen to have larger difference, if different performance limit states are used for the same structural element.

Abstract:Durability analysis of sea dam foundation is an important problem which distressed people all the time, especially in eastern Linhai area, where with continuous alternation of salty and fresh water, high humidity, long time of high temperature, and adverse circumstances. In present paper Linhai sea dam foundation is studied from three sides as a typical case, which is the designed water-cement ratio, carbonation depth of concrete, thickness of protective course for concrete. The anti-corrosion measures and some suggestion are set forth. In addition the effect of inundation on the stability of sea dam is studied. Abstract:The investigation of concrete highway bridge structures in Zhejiang Province is carrried out for an overall knowledge of current durability situation in southeast coastal area.Several representative bridges are selected for detailed inspection.The investigation and inspection results indicate that durability degradation varies in degree and style with environmental conditions of different areas significantly.Consequently a durability environmental zonation standard is required for concrete structural design.Some preliminary suggestions on durability design,construction and evaluation of coastal highway bridge structures are also proposed based on the analysis.

Abstract:Affected by the environment and load, the durability and bearing capacity of highway bridges in coastal areas have declined to varying degrees, which seriously affects the remaining service life of the bridge. To make optimal use of the maintenance funds of highway bridges in the whole life cycle, this paper studies and optimizes the maintenance plan of the bridge in the long-term service. Considering the coupling effect of marine environment and load, the degradation model of durability index and reliability index is established. The deterioration of highway bridges in coastal areas is studied based on the degradation model with durability and reliability index. The optimization results show that the remaining service life of the engineering example is extended by 6.6 years and 13.8 years, respectively.

Abstract:The tests of the sampled corrosive concrete from 5 bridges in Shanghai district show that the strength and durability of the originally designed bridge concrete C30 have severely decreased. In the recent years, lots of bridges, viaducts and light rail transits have been built in Shanghai, the study of the technical measures against the reinforced concrete corrosion will undoubtedly become an imperative issue. The principal improvements are to design the durability of the concrete in the light of the specific reasons that cause the decreasing of the durability in different environments.

Abstract:Concrete arch bridges are one of the common types for highway bridges. They have advantages of graceful line shape and beautiful appearance, good behaviour and large spanning capacity. As far as the reinforced concrete arch bridges (or combinedsystem arch bridges) are concerned, this paper describes the durability problems of the designed and constructed concrete bridges and related research advances in China in past 30 years. Abstract:For concrete structures in chloride environment,in order to meet the qualified reliability requirement during their design service life,a method of determining the durability parameter is proposed by introducing the structural durability coefficient γD to consider the influence of resistance attenuation on reliability index,based on the dynamic calculation model and dynamic reliability analysis of structural resistance deterioration process as well as the existing reliability expressions.For the design service life of 50 years,considering three load combinations and five ratios of variable load to permanent load effect,the value of structural durability parameter γD is determined according to different environmental conditions,water-cement ratios and concrete cover thicknesses.Consequently,the practical reliability design method based on durability is established.

Abstract:The relationship of cost and precision is crucial for appraising whether the result form evaluation for durability of existing concrete structures meets the evaluating requirments.Based on the three-level-multi-index evaluating model for durability of existing concrete structures,the application of random layered sampling theory to durability evaluation is studied in this paper.The relationship of evaluating cost,evaluating precision and evaluating sample size is discussed and the calculating formula for sample size and its optimum distribution among different layers is presented.At same time,the credible interval for class of membership of bridge structures is given.Furthermore,the chart-flow for evaluating durability is summarized.The result of application to actual project shows the layered random sampling method on the basis of optimum distribution among different layers can achieve coherence between evaluating cost and evaluating precision so well as to meet different needs from bridge-owner.

Abstract:In order to develop the design theory based on performance,from structure performance concept,performance approach,the basic requirement of performance design,the performance system model of structural whole life-cycle performance design was set up.In this paper load action levels were reflected through load value criteria of different design service life,and the determination method of variable load value criteria was given;The performance levels of structure were divided into three aspects,and the durability of structure was divided into three levels.It was proposed that three level performance indexes(criteria) are taken as control indexes(criteria)of structure performance.It was suggested that while durability levels are one,two and three levels,the risk-based performance indexes β should be 1.0,1.5 and 2.0 respectively.It was proposed that the harmful medium diffusion depth,steel rust corrosion rate and rust expansion crack width index are taken as the control indexes of structural durability design.

Abstract:The Hangzhou Bay Bridge is located at the typical marine corrosion environment. Research on the durability of reinforced concrete acts as an important role to evaluate the service life of the bridge. In order to evaluate the durability of Hangzhou Bay Bridge, the field exposure station of Hangzhou Bay Bridge was built during the construction of Hangzhou Bay Bridge in 2005. Hundreds of concrete specimens were placed at the station for at least 10 years, the chloride ions inside the concrete were tested twice per year. This paper summarized the experience of constructing and maintaining for the field exposure station. Meanwhile, the application of information construction and management of the exposure test station to evaluate the durability of the bridge is introduced.

Abstract:In this study,a durability design theory system for engineering structures' whole life-cycle design is established.The new theory system is based on the relationships between performances,cost and service life of structures in the whole life time domain.The performance index,economic index and service life index are considered as key indexes in the whole system.Based on the established system,the limit state for durability design could be determined and the features of durability limit state are also analyzed.The proposed new durability design theory system could be used in structural performance optimization in whole life period and consequently results in the promotion of environment-friendly and resource conservation.
