Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the value of chest DR and CT in the diagnosis of SARS. Methods: Examination of chest DR and CT were performed in 70 patients with SARS and correlation between the two modalities were carried out from April to May 2003. Results: Chest DR showed abnormalities in 65 patients and normal in 5 patients. All patients' chest CT showed abnormalities. The most typical imaging findings of SARS were rapidly changing patch like shadows, diffuse spotty shadows, shaggy cloudy shadows, ground glass opacifications. Opacities were characterized by mostly involving one lobe, secondly, multilobes of unilateral lung and multilobes of bilateral lungs. Conclusion: Various radiographic changes can be showed in patients with SARS and may be indistinguishable from other conditions that results in lung disease. Chest DR is the most common technique for the early diagnosis of SARS. Chest CT is useful when it is very difficult to diagnose and eliminate SARS according to the findings of the initial chest films.
