Abstract:The compensating method for micro-electro-mechanical systems(MEMS) gyroscopic random drift error is discussed from the point of view on practical applications.Based on the principle of the time-sequence analysis from the random series,the original measurement from the MEMS gyroscope is pretreated by an real time average estimation algorithm to get random drift signals.The residual signal is modeled by an AR model and is filtered by Kalman filtering.The compensating results for the practical testing data of an MEMS gyroscope show that the drift error can be effectively reduced by using the filtering method presented,and the measurement accuracy in practice can be further improved.

Abstract:In this paper the random drift of a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) gyro is analyzed and modeled in order to improve its performance. The analysis, which is based on run test, shows that the drift is not a weak stationary random process. Thus, a model based on gradient radial basis function neural network is applied to deal with the non-stationary process. The experiments show that the model is suitable for the random drift.

Abstract:Under the environment of MATLAB, a closed-loop feedback laser tracking system was established based on the dynamic prediction with Kalman filter and some other filtering processes. Different motion states of the tracked target are simulated to test the tracking performance. The following conclusions are obtained through simulations. After adding the dynamic prediction with Kalman filter, the tracking hysteresis can effectively be avoided when tracking the dynamic object. Taking advantage of the high frequency of PSD, the coordinate value can be read for several times in a feedback loop and then filtered to obtain a more accurate spot coordinate. Under static condition, the instability due to noise can be reduced through segmenting the feedback coefficient by distinguishing between the dynamic and static state of the object. According to the above designs, the results of the laser tracking system simulations show that the dynamic tracking performance is better than 100°/s, and static stability has an order of magnitude improvement than before.
Angular velocity current statistical model based real-time celestial navigation for lunar rover

Abstract:The long-time, long-range autonomous navigation system is one of the key technologies which assist lunar rover to finish scientific exploration missions. A novel real-time celestial navigation (RCN) method is proposed to solve this problem, which is based on celestial observation and output of angular rate gyroscope. In this paper, the star's direction vector from star sensor is treated as observation for system measurement equation; kinematics model is established using this angular velocity current statistical model (ACSM) for the rover, and its attitude quaternion differential equation is treated as system state equation. Finally, the extended Kalman filter (EKF) gives the solutions of rover's position, heading and attitude. Simulation results show that this method could obtain higher celestial navigation accuracy in real-time. © 2011 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

Abstract:For the trajectory tracking problem of autonomous vehicle,on the basis of analysis of kinematic model of vehicle,a model based predictive control method for autonomous vehicle trajectory tracking was designed.Firstly,a linear error model of vehicle kinematics was obtained by using a successive linearization approach,and it was used to predict the future behavior of the vehicle.Secondly,based on this model,it was possible to get a sequence of optimal control by using the linear MPC method and minimizing the objective function,and the first element of this sequence was applied to the system.Lastly,three typical test trajectories (lane change course,figure eight course and road course) were designed and the tracking controller was tested in the virtual simulation platform.The platform was set up on real-time multi-body dynamics software Vortex and visual rendering software Vega Prime.In order to meet the real-time requirements of the platform,two computers were used for dynamic resolving and visual rendering respectively,and the high level architecture (HLA) was adopted to realize the synchronization and data interaction between Vortex and Vega Prime.Simulation results showed that this controller can track the reference trajectory quickly and stably,the distance error and heading error were in a reasonable range.The refresh rate of Vortex and Vega Prime was stabilized at about 30 Hz,the error was within ± 0.05 Hz,indicating that the controller can meet the real-time requirements of the system.

Abstract:This paper introduces a free gyro drift error model Recognition System.Based on Data Acquisition,this system achieved Drift error parameters recognition by using Extended Kalman Filter(EKF).We used Improved Gram – Schmidt algorithm(MGS) co-variance for covariance matrix,and used Carlson algorithm(CLS) for Amendment State and covariance.System had been tested,the re-sults show that the system has sufficient recognition accuracy,fully meet the requirements of free gyro drift error model identification.

Abstract:MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) gyroscopes have been widely applied to various fields, but MEMS gyroscope random drift has nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics. It has attracted much attention to model and compensate the random drift because it can improve the precision of inertial devices. This paper has proposed to use wavelet filtering to reduce noise in the original data of MEMS gyroscopes, then reconstruct the random drift data with PSR (phase space reconstruction), and establish the model for the reconstructed data by LSSVM (least squares support vector machine), of which the parameters were optimized using CPSO (chaotic particle swarm optimization). Comparing the effect of modeling the MEMS gyroscope random drift with BP-ANN (back propagation artificial neural network) and the proposed method, the results showed that the latter had a better prediction accuracy. Using the compensation of three groups of MEMS gyroscope random drift data, the standard deviation of three groups of experimental data dropped from 0.00354, respectively, which demonstrated that the proposed method can reduce the influence of MEMS gyroscope random drift and verified the effectiveness of this method for modeling MEMS gyroscope random drift.

Abstract:In this paper a new combined method was applied to model the random drift of a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) gyro to enhance its performance. The gyro is used to set up a micro-inertial -measurement unit (MIMU) for its low cost, low power consumption and small dimensions. To improve the MIMU’s performance, we model the gyro’s random drift by a statistic method. Given the paucity of the knowledge of fabrication of the gyro, we select a neural network model instead of making a delicate physical-mathematical model. Since the gyro we used is a tuning fork micro-machined sensor with large random drift, the modeling performance is affected by the randomness inherent in the output data when neural network approach is applied. Therefore, radial basis network structure, which was successfully applied to model temperature drift of fiber optical gyros, was chosen to build the model and the grey neural network. Compared with autoregressive model, the standard error of the gyro’s random drift is reduced dramatically by radial basis model and grey radial basis model.

Abstract:Drift is a non-negligible factor which caused big biasing error in fiber optic gyroscope system. However, drift signals generally have the characteristics of nonlinearity, randomicity, and being easily interfered. How to accurately identify and effectively compensate this error relates directly to the measurement precision of inertia navigation system. A wavelet multi-scale analysis and RBF neural network model are presented in this paper to predict drift errors. This method availably enhances identification precision. Firstly, the multi-scale wavelet analysis is used to remove high frequency noise and improve its signal-to-noise ratio, de-noise signal is looked on as the desired output. Then the off-line learning radial-basis function (RBF) neural networks are employed to predict drift errors. A gradient descend algorithm with a momentum factor in this network model is introduced to decide the centers positions, width of hidden layer basis function and output layer weights. The simulation results show that the method can rapidly, effectively, and accurately identify and compensate the drift error.
Effect of time-varying factors on the drift model of Electrostatically Supported Gyro

Abstract:Time-varying factors are extremely important in both dual-axis servo turntable and Electrostatically Supported Gyro (ESG) by affecting the testing of ESG's drift model. In this paper, we model four time-varying factors, gyro case mis-alignment angle, installation error between gyro and inner ring platform, turntable base fluctuation, and null position drift of turntable's angle sensor, as a polynomial of time in the drift model for pole ESG. Based on the kinematic formula of turntable in pole gyro mode, we derive the relationships between the time-varying factors and angles of inner and outer rings of the turntable. Then the cases that these four time-varying factors affect the trajectory of turntable are analyzed term-by-term. We find that the constant drift, gravity-related drift and random drift are greatly affected by these four factors. In the light of these analyses, several basic principles to control these factors are further proposed.

Abstract:He-Ne ring laser gyroscopes are, at present, the most precise devices for absolute angular velocity measurements. Limitations to their performance come from the non--linear dynamics of the laser. Following the Lamb semi-classical theory, we find a set of critical parameters affecting the time stability of the system. We propose a method for estimating the long term drift of the laser parameters and for filtering out the laser dynamics effects from the rotation measurement. The parameter estimation procedure, based on the perturbative solutions of the laser dynamics, allow us to apply Kalman Filter theory for the estimation of the angular velocity. Results of a comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation and results of a preliminary analysis on experimental data from the ring laser prototype G-Pisa are shown and discussed.

Abstract:This work presents a nonlinear least-square iterative algorithm for calibrating gyroscopic drift error based on vibration test. According to the practical data analysis of the output acceleration of vibration table, the output acceleration errors are verified to be periodic harmonic errors with certain harmonic amplitudes in repetitively tests when the running frequency of vibration table is invariable. However, the present researches pay little attention on gyroscope calibration that is affected by the periodic errors. In this paper, the periodic harmonic acceleration errors are considered, and the nonlinear least-square iteration algorithm is applied to deal with the periodic harmonic errors. Simulation shows that the solution obtained by nonlinear least-square iterative algorithm is much better than that solved by linear least-square method.

Abstract:In order to increase CO2 laser micromachining table position accuracy,regression modeling and forecasting methods of the linear motor position error are put forward based on LSSVM.LSSVM has excellent learning and statistical functions.Predicting model is founded by kernel function.Learning machine is trained with learning sample used known data.Further error of the system is tested and predicted with testing sample.Position error prediction about various speeds and accelerations are put forward based on LSSVM introduction radial group kernel function,and error compensation is processed.Research results indicate that the use of radial basis function of the LSSVM can improve forecast accuracy,made the forecast better results.

Abstract:Drift errors of the gyro can't be measured on-orbit and have been greatly impacted by the space environment under the flying condition in the space. A new on-orbit calibration algorithm is proposed to correct the drift errors of the gyro based on GPS in this paper. Firstly, the exact mathematical model of the gyro is built by error analysis. Then the error model is linearized under reasonable condition, and the state equation of system is educed in detail. The information of attitude quaternion measured by GPS in real time is used to calibrate the installation errors and the calibration errors based on the extended Kalman filter. The numerical simulation results show that the new method not only improves the navigation precision and longevity of gyro effectively but also provides better reliability and adaptability
Depression of Ring Laser Gyro Drift Using Rotation Modulation Technique

Abstract:To improve the precision of inertial navigation system(INS) during long time operation,the rotation modulation technique is employed to modulate the errors of the inertial sensors into periodically varied signals,and,as a result,to suppress the divergence of INS errors.First,based on the measurement error model of inertial measurement unit(IMU),the principle of the rotation modulation technique is expounded.Then,first-order Markov random error model is introduced for the time-correlated random drift of ring laser gyro(RLG).And then,the depression of RLG drift using rotation modulation technique is analyzed theoretically based on autocorrelation function of first-order Markov random process.Finally,the simulation and test results are provided.The results indicate that the velocity and position errors,which are induced by time-correlated random drift of RLG,are about 1/40 of the errors without IMU rotation,and the position error of the INS is less than 1 nmile/48 h.It proves that the rotation modulation technique can modulate the time-correlated random drift of RLG effectively.

Abstract:In the error study of inertial navigation system (INS), the research on error analysis which is caused by gyro drift is limited to the constant drift in the past. Anyway, reality gyro drift is not a long-term unchanging one but varies continuously with time. With the study of systematic errors in depth, we can see that there exists a slope drift in a particular fiber optic gyroscope drift simulation, which may cause serious heading and position errors in the Inertial Navigation System (INS), therefore the research closer to the real situation of the system error model is particularly important. This article, based on mathematical model of gyro constant drift affecting system error, establishes slope drift's mathematical model, and analyses systematic errors caused by gyro drift under the static base by the simulation, and explains the simulation results according to the error model. It makes the research of error analysis in INS more comprehensive, and lays a foundation of further study on dynamic error.
Random Weighting Adaptive Estimation of Model Errors on Attitude Measurement for Rotary Steerable System

Abstract:During drilling, a rotary steerable system (RSS) is affected by vibration, rotation, and other random noises. This paper presents a random weighting adaptive estimation of model errors on attitude measurement for RSS drilling tools. The algorithm is used to estimate the covariance matrix of the dynamic model errors and the state prediction vectors for RSS drilling tools, to reduce the effect of abnormal noises of the dynamic model on the estimation of state parameters. The random weighting estimation of observation's systematic error and covariance matrices of observation error vectors to control the effect of observation model noises anomaly on state parameter estimation, enhance the use efficiency of the latest observation information, indirectly weaken the impact of model error on state parameter vector, and improve the accuracy of attitude calculation of RSS drilling tools. Experimental results and comparison analysis demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves better outcomes than the Kalman filtering and Extended Kalman filtering. The maximum solution error is controlled at 0.15°, and the tool face angle error is less than 3°. It cannot only control the covariance matrix of the observation error vector and predicted residual vector, but it can also effectively resist the disturbances of kinematic model error. It also can improve the dynamic measurement accuracy of attitude parameters, and solve the problem of uncertainty in dynamic attitude measurement of RSS drilling tools.

A Calibration Method for the Errors of Ring Laser Gyro in Rate-Biased Mode

Abstract:Ring laser gyro (RLG) can work in mechanically dithered mode or rate-biased mode according to the working state of the inertial navigation system (INS). It can change from one mode to the other by receiving outer instructions. To evaluate the performance of RLG in rate-biased mode, an inertial measurement unit (IMU) based on RLG is installed on a dual-axis turntable, the turntable offers a constant angular velocity to the RLGs, in that way RLG can work in the rate-biased mode. A calibration method is proposed to calibrate the scale factor error, misalignments and constant bias of RLG in rate-biased mode, experiment results show that the differences of scale factor of the three gyros in two modes are 9 ppm, 7 ppm and 3.5 ppm, the constant biases of the three RLGs in rate-biased mode are also different from that in mechanically dithered mode with the difference of 0.017°/h, 0.011°/h and 0.020°/h, the input axis misalignment angle of RLGs in different modes also changed. What is more, a calculation method of angle random walk (ARW) of RLG in rate-biased mode is also presented. Experimental results show that the ARW of the RLG in rate-biased mode is about one third of that in mechanically dithered.

Abstract:Inertia sensing elements are usually adopted as the sensors of velocity stabilization loop in airborne photoelectric equipments, which are constituted stabilized control system, that purpose is reducing the influence of the movement of carrier to visual axis of photoelectric probing system. But gyro, especially the piezoelectricity gyro generates drift, which is the main error source of photoelectric stabilized control system; therefore we need to adopt filtering processing to reduce influence to control system. In this paper, we analyze the characteristic of noise gyro drift, and utilize Kalman filtering technology to conduct filtering processing to output signal of gyro, this method can reduce output noise effectively. The simulation results show that the proposed filtering processing method can improve the low velocity characteristic.

Abstract:An intrinsic problem of visual odometry is its drift in long-range navigation. The drift is caused by error accumulation, as visual odometry is based on relative measurements. The paper reviews algorithms that adopt various methods to minimize this drift. However, as far as we know, no work has been done to statistically model and analyze the intrinsic properties of this drift. Moreover, the quantification of drift using offset ratio has its drawbacks. This paper models the drift as a combination of wide-band noise and a first-order Gauss-Markov process, and analyzes it using Allan variance. The model's parameters are identified by a statistical method. A novel drift quantification method using Monte Carlo simulation is also provided.
