Abstract:PbS nanoparticles were obtained by decomposition precursor PbCS 3 at 100℃. The reaction precursor was synthesised by new NaCS 3 and Pb(Ac) 2·3H 2O at room temperature. Its structure was characterized by X_ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscope.. TEM and XRD show that PbS nanoparticles in cubic structure with uniform size distribution of 20nm and 30nm.

Abstract:A simple sonochemical approach for the preparation of PbS nanoparticles homogeneously coated on sub-micrometer silica spheres has been described. The transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy images show that the PbS nanoparticles with size of 30 nm were coated on the silica spheres, without any free nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction reveals that the PbS nanoparticles are of cubic rock-salt structure. Moreover, by dissolving the silica cores with a diluted hydrofluoric acid solution, stable PbS hollow structures were obtained. It is considered that the sonochemical process in which triethanolamine acted as complex agent played an important role for the homogenouse coating of PbS nanoparticles on silica spheres.

Abstract:A novel and simple one-step solid-state reaction in the presence of a suitable surfactant has been developed. We have synthesized PbS nanoparticles with the diameters of ca. 10–15 nm by using this method. The PbS nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), UV-VIS optical absorption, and X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS). The roles of surfactant C18H37O(CH2CH2O)10H (abbreviated as C18EO10) in the forming of PbS nanoparticles were discussed, and the results indicated that the surfactant C18EO10 played an important role in the preparation of PbS nanoparticles.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline PbS was prepared in glycerin with the use of Pb(OAC)2·3H2O and CS2 as source materials at room temperature. The final product was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS). TEM showed the particles' size is in the range of 5–25 nm. The chemical mechanism for the formation of PbS in this system is discussed.

Abstract:A solution-based method was developed to obtain Pb nanowires in diameters of 70-120 nm and lengths up to similar to46 mum. Pb nanoparticles in diameter of 10-100 nm were also received under specific conditions. The products were characterized by XRD, SEM, and TEM. Based on the morphology and size evolution of products as varying reaction temperature, reactant concentration 9 as well as reaction time, the growth mechanism for Pb nanowires was suggested. Different reductants, such as diethyl glycol and hydrazine hydrate, were also compared.

Abstract:We present a surfactant-assisted solvothermal approach for the controllable synthesis of a PbS nanocrystal at low temperature (85 degrees C). Nanotubes (400 nm in length with an outer diameter of 30 nm), bundle-like long nanorods (about 5-15 mu m long and an average diameter of 100 nm), nanowires (5-20 mu m in length and with a diameter of 20-50 nm), short nanorods (100-300 nm in length and an axial ratio of 5-10), nanoparticles (25 nm in width with an aspect ratio of 2), and nanocubes (a short axis length of 10 nm and a long axis length of 15 nm) were successfully prepared and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction pattern. A series of experimental results indicated that several experimental factors, such as AOT concentration, ratio of [water]/[surfactant], reaction time, and ratio of the reagents, play key roles in the final morphologies of PbS. Possible formation mechanisms of PbS nanorods and nanotubes were proposed.

Abstract:High quality PbS nanocrystals are synthesized reproducibly through lead stearate and sulfur stabilized by oleylamine in a non-coordinating solvent. The morphology, crystalline form and phase composition of PbS nanocrystals are examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM, x-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The as-synthesized PbS nanocrystals have strong absorption and photoluminescence emissions in the near-infrared region. The size of PbS nanocrystals from 5 to 13 nm can be adjusted through the optimization of the synthesis conditions. The smaller PbS nanoparticles are obtained at the lower reaction temperature, lower precursor concentration, larger oleylamine quantity and larger lead precursor/sulfur ratio. The basic oleylamine enhances the reactivity of both lead stearate precursor and sulfur precursor in the reaction.

Abstract:With the presence of poly (sodium-p-styrene sulfonate) (PSS), which was used as a surfactant agent, lead sulfate (PbSO4) nanocrystals with different morphologies were successfully synthesized in mild conditions. The obtained products were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that temperature and concentration of PSS played key roles in controlling the morphologies of the products. At a certain concentration of PSS, PbSO4 nanorods with diameters of 50–200 nm and typical aspect ratios of 4–6 were obtained. Lead sulfide (PbS) nanocrystals can be obtained via the phase transition of PbSO4 by adding thioacetamide (TAA) as sulfur source. The lamina-like PbS nanocrystals were also obtained without adding any other surfactant.

Abstract:The preparation of one-dimensional assemblies of PbS nanoparticles is described. By treating the suspension of PbCl2 powders in aqueous thioacetamide solution at 120°C for 18h, PbS nanoparticles were synthesized in regular chain-like patterns. The particles were less than 100nm in sizes, and were organized into micron-length assemblies. The starting agents have much influence on the morphology of the products. The possible growth mechanism is also discussed.

Abstract:This article describes a facile L-cysteine-assisted solvothermal method in a mixed solution made of ethylenediamine (en) and distilled water for the large-scale synthesis of various PbS 1D and 3D novel nanostructures. By varying process parameters such as the molar ratio of Pb(OAc)(2) to L-Cysteine (reactants), the volume ratio of water to ethylenediamine, and the reaction temperature, a variety of 3D architectural structures and a ID wirelike structure can be controllably synthesized in large quantities. On the basis of early arrested growth (nanowires), a reasonable possible mechanism for the growth of PbS dendritic structures has been proposed. The as-prepared PbS products were examined using diverse techniques including X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected-area electron diffraction, high-resolution TEM, Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence emission.

Abstract:A surfactant-assisted colloidal chemistry route for the tunable synthesis of various PbS architectural nanostructures catalyzed by Ag nanocrystals seed was reported. The sizes and morphologies of the obtained PbS nanostructures were dependent on the amount of Ag nanocrystals seed and the ratio of Pb to S precursors. By varying the amount of Ag seed, sphere-, cube- and rod-shaped PbS nanostructures were obtained; while the morphologies changed from nanosphere to small nanocube and then to large cubeoctahedral when decreasing the precursors ratios of Pb to S from 5:1 to 2:1 and then to 1:2 with the fixation of the amount of Ag seed. Control of morphology under different conditions has been systematically studied and the mechanism of morphology formation was also primarily discussed.

Abstract:The uniform PbS nanospheres with an average diameter of 110 nm were synthesized via a sonochemical approach using PVP as a template reagent in aqueous solution. The chemiluminescence of the as-prepared PbS induced by electrochemical method was investigated. Stable electrogenerated chemiluminescence was first observed from the PbS nanospheres in the existence of peroxodisulfate ions.

Abstract:This paper reports the synthesis of semiconductor nanocrystals of PbS through a facile and inexpensive synthetic route between lead acetate [Pb(Ac)2·3H2O] and dithioglycol (HSCH2CH2SH) without any surfactant. The products were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), Raman spectroscopy, x-ray photelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The size of cube-shaped PbS nanocrystals can be controlled by changing the relative amount of Pb(Ac)2·3H2O and dithioglycol. Smaller cube-shaped PbS nanocrystals were obtained at higher sulfur content in the reaction system. The nanometre-sized single crystals of PbS measure ~83 nm × 59 nm × 22 nm and 39 nm × 10 nm × 7 nm, for lead acetate:dithioglycol ratios of 1:0.375 (denoted as PbS-1) and 1:1.5 (denoted as PbS-2), respectively, when a mixture of NaOH solution of lead acetate and ethyl alcohol solution of dithioglycol is maintained at 220 °C for 4 h in a Teflon-lined autoclave. XRD patterns and HRTEM images confirm the crystalline structure of the PbS crystals. TEM helped to determine the dimension of the single crystals. Raman, XPS and IR helped to further demonstrate the purity of the as-synthesized samples. The optical absorption spectra of suspensions of the these crystals in glycol show shifts in absorption band edge for as-prepared sample PbS-1 from 246 to 271 nm and for PbS-2 from 246 to 275 nm, after four days of storage, respectively. The photoluminescence peaks from the two samples are located at 434 and 433 nm for photoexcitation radiation of 315–355 nm, thus exhibiting a Stokes shift compared with band edge energy. The principal contribution of this work is that the nanometre-size PbS single crystals are prepared without using a surfactant or templating agent. The formation of a five-membered ring via the chelation between the Pb2+ ion and dithioglycol is considered to be crucial in this mechanism.

Abstract:Uniform cubic-shaped PbS nanocrystals have been prepared by a hydrothermal reaction between Pb(Ac)2⋅2H2O and Na2S2O3 in the presence of surfactant of C17H33COOK. The product was characterized through XRD, TEM, and HRTEM. Essentially all the face-centered cubic phase of PbS nanocrystals are well-defined cube with (200) lattice planes as surfaces and easy to arrange orderly.

Abstract:PbTe nanopowders with different morphology were prepared by a simple chemical synthesis. Similar cubic nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized by using Pb(NO3)2 and Na2TeO3 as the precursors, and NaBH4 as the reductant. The single PbTe phase is confirmed from XRD pattern, and obvious width of XRD peaks occur. The size of powders is distributed from 20nm to 70nm in a typical process according to observation from SEM and TEM images. Based on HRTEM observation, PbTe nanopowders with an amorphous layer show polyhedron feature. In different crystallization stages, there is different morphology due to competition between surface energy and crystal face energy. The globular, polyhedron and cubic particles belongs to different growth stages, respectively. Possible growth mechanisms of PbTe were also discussed.

The nanoparticles are characterized using techniques such as transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, absorption spectroscopy, diffuse reflection spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis.

Abstract:Star-shaped dendritic PbS nanocrystals have been synthesized by the reaction of lead acetate and thioacetamide in the presence of CTAB through a hydrothermal process at 80 ℃ for 5 h. XRD, TEM, SAED, SEM were used to characterize the products. The results show that the products were star-shaped dendritic PbS single crystals in cubic phase, and the six arms of the star extended along the six 100 directions. It has been found that the presence of the CTAB and the release rate of S2- ions from the sulfur sources are crucial for the formation of the star-shaped dendritic PbS crystals.

Abstract:Lead sulfide, PbS, nanoparticles with the average size of 3.2 +/- 0.4 nm have been synthesized by exposing self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid adsorbed Pb2+ ions on Au(111) substrate into a H2S atmosphere. The preparation process of the PbS nanoparticles consists of the formation of the SAMs, deprotonation, and Pb2+ ion adsorption of outer surface of the SAMs, followed by a gas/solid chemical reaction. The whole process was traced by infrared reflectance spectra with grazing incidence reflection mode and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In addition, scanning tunneling microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy images provided the direct proof of formation of the small-sized PbS nanoparticles. A possible nucleation model of PbS growth on the SAM has been suggested.

Abstract:Nanostructured PbS with different morphologies and particle sizes have been prepared through a polyol process. Narrow size distribution for star-shaped, octahedral, tetradecanehedral, and cubic products were achieved by slowly introducing the source materials using a peristaltic pump in the presence of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) as additive. Systematic variation of the kinetic factors, including the additive, the reaction temperature, the duration time, the ratio of source materials, the Sulfur sources, and the Pb(Ac)(2)center dot 3H(2)O concentration, reveals that the morphology depends mainly on the supersaturation degree of the free sulfur ions released from thiourea under elevated temperature. Semiquantitative analysis based on the X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of these products gives that the peak area ratio of (200) to (111) increases with the increase of the supersaturation degree within the reaction system. The four types of symmetric morphology showed different oxidation stability toward the 514.5 nm argon ion laser irradiation when the power was set at 12.5 mW.

Abstract:Large-scale PbS crystals in sub-micrometer/nanometer dimensions with various morphologies, such as cubes, dendrites, stars, and wires, were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method. Pb(NO3)2, thiourea, and capping agents like hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), were used as precursors for the syntheses. The morphology, structure, and phase composition of PbS submicro-/nano-structures were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The influence of different capping agents on the growth of these PbS crystals was investigated and optimized. The formation mechanisms of these PbS crystals were proposed, which could give a proper explanation on the evolution of the crystal growth and may also pave the way to shape-controlled synthesis of other inorganic crystals with versatile complex structures via this facile hydrothermal method.

Abstract:Lead tungstate ( PbWO 4) an important inorganic scintillator, was synthesized via a mild sonochemical route from an aqueous solution of lead acetate and sodium tungstate in the presence of complexing agents under ambient air. X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and photoluminescence (PL) were used to characterize the products. The as-prepared PbWO 4 nanocrystals crystallize in a tetragonal structure and have an average crystal size of ca. 10 nm.
