A necessary condition for two plants to be strongly stabilizable simultaneously is obtained,and a way of finding the strongly stabilizing controller is presented. Abstract:In this paper, the simultaneous stabilization problem for a set of MIMO plants is discussed and the necessary and sufficient condition for this problem is derived. Abstract:The problem of robust stabilization for parametric uncertain hybrid systems with multiple equilibria was considered. Piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions were applied to derive the sufficient conditions for hybrid state feedback robust stabilization. The proposed design of hybrid state feedback robust stabilization controllers is formulated as a convex problem in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which can be solved by relevant software.Controllability of the continuous time subsystems is not required since the controller design consists of discrete event dynamics design and continuous time dynamics design. The applicability of this design approach is shown a successfal simulation example.

Abstract:The strong γk-γcl H∞ stabilization problem as well as the simultaneous γk- γcl H∞ control problem is addressed in this paper. Based on the bounded real lemma, a sufficient condition for strong γk-γcl H∞ stabilization is proposed, which leads to the design procedures that involve an algebraic Riccati equation and some LMI constraints. It is also proved that the simultaneous γk-γcl H∞ stabilization problem for r (r ≥ 2) plants is equal to strongly γk- γcl H∞ stabilize r - 1 associated plants. Finally, a numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the result. ©2007 IEEE.

Abstract:In this paper, the simultaneous stabilization problem is considered using the matrix inequality approach. Some necessary and sufficient conditions for simultaneous stabilizability of strictly proper multi-input/multi-output (MIMO) plants via static output feedback and state feedback are obtained in the form of coupled algebraic Riccati inequalities. It is shown that any such stabilizing feedback gain is the solution of some coupled linear quadratic control problems where every cost functional has a suitable cross term. A heuristic iterative algorithm based on the linear matrix inequality technique is presented to solve the coupled matrix inequalities. The effectiveness of the approach is illustrated by numerical examples

Abstract:The model error compensation method has been extended to stabilise a class of single-input single-output non-affine systems under two simple inequalities conditions. This extension is based on the careful design of the saturation function of control input which plays a key role in determining the local exponential stability and the attraction region. Abstract:This paper presents a systematic approach to exponentially stabilize the periodic orbits of multi-domain hybrid systems arising from 3D bipedal walking. Firstly, the method of Poincare sections is extended to the hybrid systems with multiple domains. Then, based on the properties of the Poincare maps, a continuous piecewise feedback control strategy is presented, and three methods are furthermore given to design the controller parameters based on the developed theorems. By those design methods, the controller parameters in each continuous phase can be designed independently, which allows the strategy to be applied to hybrid systems with multiple domains. Finally, the proposed strategy is illustrated by a simulation example. To show that the proposed strategy is not limited to bipedal robots with left-right symmetry property which is assumed in some previous works, an underactuated 3D bipedal robot with asymmetric walking gait is considered.

Abstract:We address stabilization of linear time-invariant (LTI), single-input single-output (SISO) systems in the Laplace domain, with a stable controller in a single feedback loop. Such stabilization is called strong. Plants that satisfy a parity interlacing property are known to be strongly stabilizable. Finding such controllers is a well known difficult problem. Existing general methods are based on either manual search or a clever use of Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation with polynomials of possibly high integer order. Here we present a new, simple, and general method for strongly stabilizing systems of relative degree less than 3. We call our method Real to Integers (RTI). Our theoretical contributions constitute proposing the functional form used, which involves a product of several terms of the form $\displaystyle \left ( \frac{s+a}{s+b} \right )^m$, showing that real $m$'s will arise whenever the plant is strongly stabilizable, and proving that integer $m$'s can be obtained by continuously varying free parameters (i.e., the $a$'s and $b$'s). Our practical contributions include demonstrating a simple way, based on a trigonometric trick, to adjust the fractional powers until they take reasonable integer values. We include brief but necessary associated discussion to make the paper accessible to a broad audience. We also present ten numerical examples of successful control design with varying levels of difficulty, including plants whose transfer functions have relative degrees of 0, 1 or 2; and with right half plane zeros of multiplicity possibly exceeding one.

Abstract:The interconnection and control of dynamical systems are studied in a behavioral contex.New results of system stabilization are achieved by specifying the controller as a system restricting plant's behavior.Dynamical properties of partial variables of interest are characterized by elimination of latent variables.These variables can be stabilized by pole placement.Variety of systems which can be stabilized by this controller is proved by defining a Bezout map both injective and surjective.This makes it possible for a controller to stabilize two or more than two plants.Simulation result shows the validity and effectiveness of this design method.

Abstract:For the strong gamma k -gamma cl H infin stabilization problem, a new bounded real lemma is provided by adding two slack variables, which provides extra freedom to include more control constraints in handling robust control problems. With the extended bounded real lemma, a new sufficient condition is proposed for n-th order strong gamma k -gamma cl H infin stabilization. Furthermore, the H infin stable stabilization and strong stabilization problems can also be solved by relaxing certain constraints accordingly. Despite the BMI constraints, the path-following and alternative iteration methods are adopted for the controller design. The effectiveness of the algorithms is indicated by a numerical example.

Abstract:Distributed stabilization problem is studied in this article for multiple heterogeneous agents in the uncertain strong-weak competition network with exogenous disturbances, where the agents are modeled by the second-order systems with different nonlinear intrinsic dynamics, and the network uncertainty is characterized by unknown nonzero parameters, which contains three different relationships among agents: 1) cooperation; 2) strong competition; and 3) weak competition. To achieve distributed stabilization, the whole network is first divided into two parts: 1) identifiable part and 2) unidentifiable part, and a new distributed robust integral sign of the error (RISE) controller is designed for each agent, where the selection rules of the corresponding parameters are given. It is shown that the heterogeneous multiagent system (MAS) can achieve distributed stabilization no matter whether the identifiable part is structurally balanced or not. Furthermore, it is proved that the global distributed stabilization is achieved for the heterogeneous agents provided that the partial derivatives of the nonlinear intrinsic dynamics are bounded. Finally, two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed controller.

Abstract:In this paper, the simultaneous stabilization problem of linear systems is transformed into solving problems of a set of nonlinear inequalities by using a sufficient criterion of polynomial stability. Then a genetic algorithm program is constructed for solving the inequalities, for finding a feasible set of control parametes which simulfaneously stabilize a finite set of plants. Examples demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm.

By using the LMI approach and dynamic state feedback theory, the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the desired controller was obtained. Abstract:In this paper, we tackle the significant challenge of simultaneous stabilization in control systems engineering, where the aim is to employ a single controller to ensure stability across multiple systems. We delve into both scalar and multivariable scenarios. For the scalar case, we present the necessary and sufficient conditions for a single controller to stabilize multiple plants and reformulate these conditions to interpolation constraints, which expand Ghosh's results by allowing derivative constraints. Furthermore, we implement a methodology based on a Riccati-type matrix equation, called the Covariance Extension Equation. This approach enables us to parameterize all potential solutions using a monic Schur polynomial. Consequently, we extend our result to the multivariable scenario and derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for a group of $m\times m$ plants to be simultaneously stabilizable, which can also be solved by our analytic interpolation method. Finally, we construct four numerical examples, showcasing the application of our method across various scenarios encountered in control systems engineering and highlighting its ability to stabilize diverse systems efficiently and reliably.

Abstract:For a class of uncertain nonlinear systems with time-delays in both state and control input, when in the linear part of the plant, the uncertainties are unknown but norm-bounded, and the uncertainties in the nonlinear part satisfy the so-called matching condition, this paper deals with the robust stabilization problem. The sufficient conditions for the systems under consideration to be stabilizable via state feedback or output feedback are given in terms of Riccati inequality, in the sense of global exponential stability. And we show that the controller can be designed by a simple procedure so long as obtaining the solutions of the corresponding inequalities.

Abstract:The stability condition of a class of hybrid dynamic systems is discussed.The characteristic of this class of hybrid dynamic systems is that a center controller controls N continuous plants in sharing time manner.The plants are described by differential equations.Event feedback strategy is used as the real-time scheduling policy such that only one plant is chosen to be controlled by the controller at any time.The main result of this paper is as follows:First,a discrete time system derived from the hybrid dynamic system with event feedback scheduling strategy is introduced,and it is shown that the stability of hybrid dynamic system is equivalent to that the state of the derived discrete time system tends to negative infinite.Based on this fact,a new proof of an existing stability condition is presented.Then,a conjecture as a new stability condition is proposed.It is showed that the conjecture holds in certain special cases.Finally,two numeric examples are presented to support the conjecture in general case.

Abstract:We present in this paper a continuous feedback approach to the problem of global strong stabilization, for genuinely nonlinear systems that may not be stabilized, even locally, by any smooth feedback. We describe conditions under which it is possible to prove, while no smooth controllers exist, the existence of continuous state feedback control laws that achieve global strong stability (GSS) in the sense of Kurzweil. The proof is constructive and carried out by developing a machinery, which combines the theory of homogeneous systems with the idea of adding a power integrator, for the explicit construction of globally stabilizing continuous controllers. We then illustrate, by means of examples, how this machinery can be used to overcome the topological obstruction caused by smooth feedback, and hence resulting in new solutions to a variety of open control problems, including global stabilization of an underactuated unstable two degree of freedom mechanical system.
