Advance in Effects and Mechanisms of Bacteriocin on Prophylaxis and Control of Animal Disease.

Abstract:Bacteriocins,a kind of antibacterial proteins secreted by bacteria,were reviewed on the aspects of their properties,production and preparation,role in the prophylaxis and control of animal diseases,bacteriostatic or/and sterilization mechanism,and safety evaluation.It was pointed out that the bacteriocins could significantly inhibit pathogenic bacteria in vitro,significantly inhibit harmful bacteria in animal gastrointestine by oral administration,and prevent systemic bacterial infection by intraperitoneal or intravenous injection without toxic and harmful effect.Bacteriocins were the ideal alternative to antibiotics in the prophylaxis and control of animal diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria.
