Abstract:The effect of sludge dosage on the basic features of sludge coal water slurry(S-CWS),such as the rheology behavior,stability and combustion characteristics were discussed and compared with coal water slurry(CWS).Results showed that S-CWS with 5%~10% sludge added had favorable stability and rheological characteristics under conditions of 0.6%~1.2% dispersant and 0.1% stabilizer.With the increase of sludge content in slurry,the ignition temperatures went down,while the burnout temperature was brought forward and combustion properties became better.Experiments in the tube furnace indicated that S-CWS had greater sulfur retention than CWS,and the sulfur precipitation rate increased with temperature rising.

Abstract:Based on the sludge drying and incineration project in a 300MW coal-fired power plant boiler,an experimen- tal study of the sludge drying system and the influence of sludge & coal blending was launched. The disc dryer's ther- mal efficiency drawn through the material energy balance,was 74. 96%. And the energy consumption of each part of the drying system was analyzed. By contrast the component characteristics of the sludge & coal blending fuel with the design coal,the influence of the mixed fuel on the pulverized coal boiler was analyzed. The results showed that there was no significant influence on the boiler at the blending ratio less than 3%.

Abstract:Tests of combustion of sludge coal water slurry(S-CWS) were conducted in a fixed bed oven.Effects of combustion temperature,Ca/S molar ratio and desulfurizer kinds on desulfurization rate were investigated.Results showed that when combustion temperature was raised,desulfurization rate increased at first and then decreased,and desulfurization rate at the temperature of 850 ℃ obviously was higher than that at other temperatures.With the increase of Ca/S molar ratio,desulfurization rate increased obviously.However,desulfurization rate increased relatively slowly when Ca/S molar ratio increased from 1.5 to 2.0.The optimum Ca/S molar ratio of sludge coal water slurry(S-CWS) should be 1.5 when economic factor is taken into consideration.The desulfurization effect of Ca(OH)2 is better than that of CaCO3 because the emission characteristics of SO2 is consistent with the decomposition pattern of Ca(OH)2.The test provides a solid basis for the industrial application of sludge coal water slurry.

Abstract:The zero-discharge of desulfurization wastewater has become a hot environmental issue. Coal-fired flue gas dechlorination is a new technology to achieve zero-discharge of desulfurization wastewater. The atomized alkaline solution is sprayed into the flue before the precipitator to absorb strong acid gases such as HCl. Then the reaction products will be removed with fly ash by precipitator synergistically. By reducing the mass concentration of Cl-in the flue gas at the inlet of the desulfurization tower, the amount of desulfurization wastewater can be reduced effectively. While the desulfurization wastewater after reduction being used as the solvent of alkaline, zero-discharge of desulfurization wastewater will be realized finally. When NaOH is used as the alkaline substance, and the Na/Cl(in mole) is about 5, the efficiency of dechlorination could reach more than 70％. The amount of desulfurization waste water of a 300MW unit can be reduced from 3. 1m3/h to 0. 88m3/h. In addition, the technology will not only remove HCl, but also can remove SO2and SO3in the flue gas. It has great significance for the prevention of low temperature corrosion, especially under the case of ultra-low emission. It also has certain positive significance for the operation of ESP and WFGD. Compared to other technologies of processing desulfurization wastewater, coal-fired flue gas dechlorination technology has the advantages of simple system, low cost, good security, strong adaptability, no secondary pollution and so on. It has a good application prospect.

Abstract:The coal-water slurry(CWS) is introduced into treating the paper-making black liquid. The black liquid is regarded as a resource to achieve the no-emission. The thermogravimetric analysis on the black liquid coal-water slurry (BLCWS) shows that the characteristics are the lower kindling point and the better property of burnout. The combustion in the industrial boiler shows that the combustion efficiency(97.31%) is high, and the contaminant emission is within emission standard of air pollutants (emission concentration of SO_2 is 67mg·m~(-3)).

Based on the actual situation and need of the co-combustion of coal and sewage sludge in the power plant, one coal sample from a power plant and one sewage sludge sample from a sewage treatment plant were studied in this paper for the feasibility of co-combustion in the coal-fired power plant. Sewage sludge with different moisture contents and coal were mixed into different proportions. Thermal gravity analysis (TGA) and Drop Tube Furnace (DTF) experiments were used to study the characteristics of combustion, pollution gases emission and also heavy metal emission. It was found in this study that there was a comparatively large difference between combustion characteristics of sewage sludge and those of coal. However, the performance of co-combustion of sewage sludge with coal is generally expressing the joint action result of sewage sludge and coal, and sometimes better than the burning of single coal. This study will provide essential and fundamental research data for the feasibility and utilization of co-combustion of coal and sewage sludge in the power plant.

Abstract:Low-volatile coal water slurry(CWS) has an advantage over washed coal CWS in price obviously.When CWS is applied in a boiler,besides the stability of inflammation and combustion,slagging characteristic is another important factor to affect safety and economy in operation of the boiler.Low-volatile CWS was used in large-scale boilers and slagging experiment was processed using silicon carbide rods.This paper used coal ash analysis,changing tendency of slag thickness,mass and deposition rate,X-ray diffractometer(XRD) and scanning electron microscope(SEM),a slagging characteristic decision model based on fuzzing mathematics to predict the slagging,and get the slagging characteristic of low-volatile CWS.The result indicates that the slagging of low-volatile CWS is in an acceptable extent.

Abstract:Using the current coal-fired power plant to treat sludge with large annual production is an efficient sludge treatment method. Nevertheless, the majority of the previous studies concentrated on sludge co-firing with low blending ratio and moisture content in utility boiler. Further analysis and discussion are necessary regarding the impact of sludge with high blending ratio and high moisture content on co-firing performance as well as the potential interactions between high moisture content sludge and coal during the co-firing process. The simulation results of the verified computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model can be regarded as numerical experiments. In the present research, CFD was used to analyze the co-firing characteristics of municipal sludge and coal in a 600 MW tangentially fired utility boiler. The impacts of sludge moisture content, blending ratio, blending strategy, and secondary air (SA) distribution on co-combustion characteristics and NOX emissions were investigated, and their potential synergistic effects were assessed. The co-firing of coal and sludge has little impact on the furnace outlet temperature while potentially lowering NOX emissions, provided that the net calorific value of the feeding of the mixture of sludge and coal is kept constant. The reduction of sludge moisture content can significantly improve co-combustion performance, but it also facilitates NOX production. Blending sludge from the position of the medium-upper burners can reduce the number of layers needed to burn the sludge in practical coal-fired boiler. Furthermore, the SA distribution has a major impact on the furnace outlet flue gas temperature and NOX content. The shrunk-middle type is the optimum scheme for SA distribution. This study contributes to a deeper knowledge of the actual co-firing of sludge and coal in the utility boiler and provides a possible theoretical foundation for the widespread, clean, and effective use of sludge.

Abstract:A pilot test on disposal of wheat straw pulping black liquor applying Coal-Water Slurry (CWS) combustion technology as an alternative of traditional alkali recovery technique has been performed: Experimental study on combustion feature for several kinds of Coal-Blackliquor Slurry (CBS) was carried out in a 6.5 ton/hr chain-grate boiler. In the test flue gas, slag and dust were analyzed and boiler's heat liberation rate was measured. The results demonstrated that the combustion of CBS is efficient with low poisonous emission: The successful combustion of CBS demonstrated itself promising as a key technique in a novel measure of comprehensive disposal of wheat straw black liquor.

Abstract:Co-incineration of sludge in the existing coal-fired utility boilers is a promising sludge disposal approach, but study on the combustion characteristics and the economic impacts of co-firing sludge in full-scale utility boilers is in absence. In this study, a series of full-scale field experiments and numerical experiments were conducted to study the coal-sludge co-combustion characteristic in a 100 MW coal-fired utility boiler. The effects of sludge blending ratio and moisture content in sludge are concerned. Subsequently, the economic impacts of co-firing sludge is presented. The results demonstrate that the combustion characteristics is acceptable when co-firing 10% sludge. The ignition property and the flame stability are significantly affected when the mass content of co-fired sludge is over 10%. Decreasing the moisture content in sludge is beneficial to the combustion characteristics but the improvements are limited. Co-firing sludge is profitable for power plants as the savings from coal and sludge disposal allowance is quite substantial. Considering both the combustion characteristics and the economic impacts, co-firing 10% sludge with moisture content ranging from 40% to 56% is optimal. The annual profit from co-firing sludge can reach 4.2 million to 5.5 million Chinese yuan (CNY), which is remarkable for the power plant. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:For the purpose of investigating desulfuration characteristics and mechanism of black liquor coal slurry,three combustion experiments were performed in thermobalance,test furnace and industrial boiler,respectively,and sulfur dioxide emission in the combustion fume was compared between black liquor coal slurry and the raw coal,qualitatively and quantitatively.The desulfuration mechanism of black liquor coal slurry was investigated by means of energy spectroscopy,electron probe microanalyzer and X-ray diffraction analysis of typical combustion ash samples from test furnace and industrial boiler.The result indicated that most of sulfur dioxide was absorbed by sodium hydroxide and fixed in fly ash and slag during the combustion of black liquor coal slurry,and the sulpharization process of sodium carbonate in the high temperature environment could also absorb part of sulfur dioxide.Sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate are two principal desulfuration agents with the mechanism different from coal's calcium-base desulfuration.The occurrence form of the desulfuration phase in fly ash and slag of black liquor coal slurry was mainly thenardite,sodium sulfate and aphthitalite.

Abstract:Combustion tests of a sludge coal water slurry(S-CWS) and Datong bituminous coal water slurry(Datong bituminous CWS) were performed in a 3.2 MW horizontal furnace to investigate the industrial application feasibility of S-CWS.The properties of ignition,combustion,slagging and pollutant emission were analyzed respectively.The results indicate that S-CWS with sludge mass ratio of 10% can be easily fired and combusted stably.With better burning and slagging properties than Datong bituminous CWS,S-CWS produces ample flame in uniform distribution.The addition of sludge results in high concentrations of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in flue gas,which can be relieved by adding desulfurizing agents in practice.Generally,it is satisfactory to burn S-CWS in the 3.2 MW furnace,offering a new feasible method of sludge disposal.
Application of Water-coal-slurry Fluidization-suspension Combustion Technology at Shengli Oil Field

Abstract:A new water-coal-slurry fluidization-suspension combustion technology has been studied and developed with its theory, specific features and applications at Shengli Oil Field being described. The technology features a high adaptability to various fuels, quick start-up, high efficiency and low pollution etc. The practice at Shengli Oil Field proves that medium and small-sized industrial boilers adopting water-coal-slurry fluidization-suspension combustion technology have attained a combustion efficiency as high as 85%-91%, much higher than the average efficiency of present-day coal-fired industrial boilers in China with their energy-saving rate being over 20%. Regarding environmental protection, the above technology is conducive to a decrease in raw coal loss and pollution related to its transportation process in cities, a reduction of floating dust in the atmosphere and less emission of such pollutants as SO_2, NO_x and CO_2 etc. bringing about dramatic environmental-protection benefits. Taking into account the on-site practice, the authors have analyzed the specific features and application prospect of the technology under discussion, which is of great significance for popularization and application of water-coal-slurry instead of oil as a fuel for boilers.
Combustion Characteristics and Analysis of the Energy Efficiency of a Coal-fired Boiler Burning Coal Diluted and Mixed with Dried Sludge

Abstract:For a construction project of a 420 t/h tangential pulverized coal-fired boiler,analyzed was the feasibility of the pulverized coal-fired boiler to burn coal diluted and mixed with dried sludge from such characteristics as ignition,steady combustion and slagging etc.and the exergy balance analytic method was used to analyze the efficiency of the boiler and the exergy loss of various heating surfaces when burning coal mixed and diluted with sludge in various proportions and water contents.The research results show that when the proportion of sludge mixed and diluted is less than 1:4,the sludge-coal blended combustion characteristics are similar to coal and meanwhile the exergy efficiency of the mixture is slightly higher than that of coal.After the proportion of sludge mixed and diluted is greater than 1:4,the ash melting point of the mixture sample will drop obviously,tend to slag conspicuously and the exhaust gas loss will increase remarkably.The foregoing can offer a necessary experimental and theoretical basis for analyzing the feasibility of a power plant to burn coal diluted and mixed with dried sludge.

Abstract:The power plants with co-combustion of sludge and coal were investigated,and the environmental consequences were analyzed when the power plants take Standard for Pollution Control on the Municipal Solid Waste Incineration(GB 18485-2001) and Emission Standard of Air Pollutants for Thermal Power Plants(GB 13223-2003) as their pollution control standards.The consequences include that the total emissions of NOx and SO2 increase due to the increase of flue gas,the mercury and dioxins are lack of effective control,and the boiler ash utilization is lack of safety standard.Referring to the European related standards and the two domestic standards under revision,the administration advices were provided,such as strictly restricting industrial sludge incineration in power plants,restricting sludge quantity,property and boiler condition for the co-combustion,and improving flue gas treatment system.Furthermore,the new provisions on the heavy metals and dioxins control and ash utilization should be added to the new edition of Emission Standard of Air Pollutants for Thermal Power Plants(GB 13223-2003).

Abstract:The tests of co-combustion of municipal sewage sludge and coal were conducted in a 20 kW multi-functional tube furnace,focusing on the combustion characteristics of the mixed fuel and the emission pollutants in the flue gas,in the cases of coal blending combustion of dried sludge,with different water contents and proportions.The results showed that the major weight loss of sludge was within the temperature ranged in 180 ～ 520 ℃,which covered two weight loss phases,namely resulting from the separation and combustion of volatile components.At the same time,the ignition and burnout performance of coal could be improved by co-combustion with dried sludge.Compared with single coal combustion,concentration of NOx didn't change regularly,fluctuating from 350 mg/m3 to 450 mg/m3;concentration of SO2 increased with the increase of sludge mixing ratio;concentration of dioxin of 30％ of sludge with water content of 10％ combusted with coal was about 2.4 times of that with single coal combustion.All the pollutants in the flue gas purified by treatment system could be discharged obeying the current national standard,and the optimum blending ratio of dried sludge should be 20％.

Abstract:Abstract The coal quality characteristics of urban sludge were analyzed, and three types of coal-sludge-coupled power generation technologies were introduced, including direct sludge mixing, flue gas direct drying sludge and steam indirect drying sludge coupling power generation. Three types of sludge coupling power generation technologies in coal-fired power plant were introduced, including direct sludge blending process, sludge blending after drying directly by flue gas and indirectly by steam. The control values of sludge blending ratio and moisture content after sludge drying are analyzed, and it is considered that the direct sludge blending ratio should be controlled within 5%. The moisture content after sludge drying should be controlled at 30-40% and the blending ratio should be controlled within 10%. The influence of sludge blending on the operation of the unit is analyzed. The operation of coal-fired boiler is stable, the quality of fly ash and slag has little change, and the emission of pollutants and heavy metals reaches the standard if the proportion of sludge mixed with combustion is controlled within 10%.

Abstract:To solve the problems of resources wasted and environmental pollution etc.resulted from a majority of coal slime abandoned and then incinerated,proposed and designed was a CFB boiler with coal slime serving as the fuel.The pretreatment and transmission mode of the fuel fed with coal slime serving as the fuel were mainly described and the furnace type design,fuel design and heating surface design of the boiler were also expounded.With the operation of a 20 t/h newly-built coal slime-fired CFB boiler serving as an example,the ignition and operation process of the boiler were introduced.It has been known from the operation that the lower bed temperature and the pressure in the air box are the main parameters needed to be observed and controlled and it is proper to control the lower bed temperature to be lower than 950 ℃ and the pressure in the air box to be around 8500 Pa.In the meantime,this type CFB boiler can very well adaptitself to the combustion of pure coal slime and operate stably.When the boiler operates at a load greater than 70％ of its rated one,its combustion efficiency can reach 85％ and the pollutant emissions from the flue gases can meet the requirements for environmental protection and emissions stipulated by the state,thus realizing the utilization of coal slime as a resource.
