Abstract:Recent progresses and future developments on oxy-coal combustion with different scale test rigs are reviewed and prospected.Laboratory scale experimental results reveal that coal particles burn at lower temperatures and endure longer burnout times in O2/CO2environment than in O2/N2environment with the same oxygen mole fractions. Thus coal particle ignition and combustion characteristics can be enhanced with enriched oxygen fractions in O2/ CO2environments.Pilot-scale testing results indicate that the ignition and flame stability of coal mixture streams are mainly affected by flue gas recirculation ratio, primary and secondary oxygen partial pressure, secondary preheat temperature, and coal rank. The coal combustion and heat transfer characteristics in O2/CO2environment are matched to those in air environment when the oxygen fraction in O2/CO2mixture is increased to the range of 27~35%,which value depends on the rank of coal.
