Abstract:This article introduces the theoretical basis of the Length Approach and the basic idea of the Length Approach, and explains the teaching design of the Length Approach which includes the teaching goal, teaching methods, classroom teaching, evaluation and feedback.For a long time, writing has always been one of the weakest links in college English teaching in China. College English textbooks in China indicate that writing is one part of intensive reading, or more accurately, subordinate to vocabulary practice and grammar drill. Compared with other language skills, less than enough class time is allocated to writing, and little preparation is done for written work in class. The teaching of writing in the English teaching classroom often goes this way: the teacher gives a topic or a selection of topics, a set of requirements, and a time limit. The students finish the task within the time limit and hand in the final product, and then receive a grade, perhaps a response and another assignment. The efficiency of writing course is very low. Students' poor performance in the CET-4 (College English Test Band-4) and CET-6 (College English Test Band-6) can serve as an illustration of the low efficiency.Teaching English writing is always the most difficult part of English education in China. Because writing is just a part of intensive reading, there are few course periods for teaching it in class. Therefore, teachers have no time to pay much attention to the teaching of writing which is thought to be time-consuming and inefficient. In order to pass CET-4 or CET-6, a cram session for composition guidance has become a common teaching mode in most colleges. Students are lack of real communicative desire, and their subjective initiative and creative thinking are limited. The lag of writing teaching has resulted in a serious imbalance between the input and the output, affecting the students' language knowledge internalization. In this case, the Length Approach, advocated by Professor Wang Chuming, comes into being and brings a new enlightenment to the college English writing teaching.

Abstract:Since the new curriculum reform, the examination of English in the college entrance examination mainly focuses on language communication, in which listening is one of the key examination items, and it also occupies a certain proportion in the score of English in the college entrance examination. However, as far as the English listening teaching in China is concerned, a considerable part of English teachers' teaching methods are too single, and their teaching level varies, which leads to the slow enhancement of students' listening ability, and some students can't even pronounce the words in a standardized way, not to mention getting good grades in the college entrance examination process. This paper discusses the difficult dilemmas in English listening teaching in the college entrance examination, including students' weak basic knowledge, single listening material, lack of listening skills and poor psychological quality. Aiming at these problems, this paper puts forward a series of coping strategies, including strengthening basic knowledge learning, enriching listening materials, improving listening skills and strengthening psychological quality exercise. Through qualitative research, this paper verifies the effectiveness of these strategies and provides a useful reference for improving the effect of English listening teaching in the college entrance examination.

Abstract:Listening teaching is the weak link in college English teaching,so reform on it is of the most important current reforms.This paper will state an experiment on the application of four in one teaching method in college English listening teaching.Four in one method is firstly advocated by professor Bao Tianren who combines China's national conditions,teaching situations,learning conditions with his own teaching practice.This experiment applies four in one teaching method(classroom teaching,extra-curricular learning,usual review,exam preparation) in college English listening teaching,and by analyzing the experimental results draws the conclusion that four in one method has positive effects on the improvement of college English listening teaching and students’ listening abilities,and it proves the feasibility of the method as well.

Abstract:This paper conducts an in-depth analysis of the issues present in current high school English listening and speaking classes and proposes corresponding improvements. Firstly, it identifies the challenges faced by high school English listening and speaking instruction, including inadequate emphasis on training listening and speaking skills by teachers, lack of operational and measurable course objectives, monotonous forms of activity organization, limitations in the use of listening materials and tools, weak connections between introductory segments and thematic content, failure to understand listening and speaking discourse based on thematic significance, neglect of teaching learning strategies, absence of learning activities in authentic contexts, and singular evaluation methods. Subsequently, a series of suggestions for enhancing teaching quality and efficiency are put forward, such as designing instruction around thematic contexts that integrate listening, speaking, reading, viewing, and writing skills; fostering the development of students’ core competencies, particularly language ability and cultural awareness; conducting comprehensive, interconnected, and practical learning activities; utilizing modern information technology to create a culturally rich learning environment; and implementing formative and multifaceted evaluation mechanisms. These improvement measures aim to enhance students’ listening and speaking abilities and cultivate them as lifelong learners with good listening and speaking habits.

Abstract:Junior high school is a critical period of English learning. According to the English curriculum standards in China, junior high school English should not only pay attention to the imparting of language knowledge but also pay attention to the cultivation of language skills. The junior high school stage is the critical period for students to learn. English listening is the first link of language skills and dominant position on speaking, reading and writing and other aspects of far-reaching impact. Different from the rich teaching resources and activities of urban junior middle schools, the resources and facilities in rural areas are relatively weak, so the effective teaching of junior middle school English listening needs to be paid more attention, which meets the requirements of the new curriculum standards of junior middle school English and the needs of curriculum reform in China. Based on this situation, this paper investigates and studies the effective teaching of junior middle school English listening. From the perspective of teachers and students, it combines quantitative research with qualitative research to find out the phenomenon of low efficiency and ineffective teaching in the current rural junior middle school English listening teaching, analyzes its causes, and puts forward effective countermeasures. In this study, 185 students were surveyed and 10 students and 15 teachers were interviewed by questionnaire and interview. Based on the relevant theory of effectiveness, combined with the interpretation of the specific requirements and basic spirit of English ability in the new curriculum standards, as well as the analysis and research of test results, this paper summarizes the inefficiencies existing in English listening teaching in rural junior high schools at this stage, and makes an in-depth study of the causes of the problems, including misleading effects of examination results and the professional level of teachers. In view of these problems, the author proposed to improve and enhance the effective teaching strategies of rural junior middle school English students, hoping to be helpful to the majority of front-line grassroots teachers.

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to explore the application and effect of action research in college English listening teaching. By conducting an action study from finding problems, reconfirming problems, designing action plans, final actions to reflection, with a hybrid approach to research design, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, the study employed questionnaire survey and interview to understand students' satisfaction with listening teaching and the existing problems, namely, the inappropriateness of listening task design, the limits of vocabulary, the lack of listening skills and strategies. Subsequently, a series of solutions are proposed and applied into actions. Teachers adjusted their teaching strategies according to the initial feedback and implemented a series of innovative teaching activities, such as group discussion, role playing, simulate real situations, interactive listening games, and the use of multimedia materials. During the implementation process, researchers regularly collect feedback from students and analyze the data together with teachers to further optimize teaching methods. The results show that action research not only improves students' listening skills and learning motivation, but also enhances their critical thinking and autonomous learning ability. In addition, the teaching practice of teachers has been significantly improved.

Abstract:In this study, we explore the current situation of teaching college English reading in China and offer suggestions for improving it from the perspective of invitational rhetoric, mainly in terms of the three external conditions it advocates, safety, value and freedom, and its core, understanding. We distributed the questionnaire about the current situation of college English reading instruction to students majoring in English and analysed the results. Concerning the conditions of safety, the teachers respected students’ views, but the students were not confident and were unwilling to participate in teacher-student interaction; therefore, teachers should create a safe external environment so that students trust them. Concerning the conditions of value, teachers allowed students to fully express their perspectives, and they prepared and conducted classroom activities from the students’ standpoint. Regarding the conditions of freedom, students were selective in accepting teachers’ views and formulated their own views, but when their views differed from those of teachers, few presented their opinions; teachers must acknowledge their weaknesses at the right time so that students can realise disagreeing with teachers is not equal to offending them. Regarding the conditions of understanding, teachers no longer aimed to instill knowledge; they paid more attention to students’ understanding and encouraged them to form their own ideas while understanding students and accepting reasonable feedback.
