Abstract:Architectural and structural design work of roof system of Yueqing Olympic Center are roughly reviewed in the present paper.The stadium with lunar shape adopts a novel type of spatial cable-frames. System constitution of this stadium is different because of braced radial cables and open-mouth hoop cable. The gymnasium and swimming arena adopt a new latticed-shell-string system with non-vertical compression bars and spatial hoop cables.Structural design of steel works of Yueqing Olympic center is in accordance with mechanical rules and restrictions but not constrained by common concepts.It is a little challengeable in some aspects.The present paper aims at roughly review of some key design techniques of new types of large-span spatial structures.Emphasis is put on the process of architectural design and structural design when they do not coincided with each other at the preliminary design stage.

Abstract:The National Grand Theatre of China opened in December 2007 in Beijing. It is a complex of three performance halls: the Opera (2400 seats), the Concert Hall (2000 seats) and the Theatre (1100 seats). These three halls are covered by a super-ellipsoidal shell made out of titanium and glass. The history of the acoustic design evolution from the winning of the competition in 1999 by the Architect Paul Andreu to the final construction will be retraced including the preliminary design, the acoustic simulations and auralisations. The acoustic design of each hall will be presented with its specifications and detailed particularities. Final acoustic measurements have been done in the three empty halls and in the occupied concert hall. The results and acoustic criteria will be discussed. In addition, a subjective evaluation has been done with psychoacoustic questionnaires and the results will be presented and analysed.

Abstract:The thesis,based on an example of the architectural acoustics design of a sports studium in Zhejiang University,explores the ultimate goal of the acoustics design of a multi-funtional sports studium and the possibility of creating an ideal acoustic effect through the use and proper layout of sound absorbing material to control the reverberation time and diminish unwanted sound.Main methods applied include:layout of the sound absorbing material,test and comparision of sound performance,attention to the sound absorbing of the walls,control of the unwatned sound,and finally the use of simulation of such a design in computer to find out how it really functions under different sound environment:during a meeting or a sports game,thus pinpointing the main principles of architeccural acoustics design of a small to medium sized muti-funtional sprots studium,with the ultimate goal of creating an ideal sound effect.

Abstract:Architecture design for green building should be favorable to positive cycle of ambient ecological environment and enhancement of both the local climate and high living environmental quality. The paper presents the optimization methods of architecture in accordance with the results of environment simulation of noise reduction effects and influence on ventilation. In the case of a middle school's design, there are contradictions in solving the problems of noise and ventilation. With adjustments of design and continuous simulations, paper achieves best results. In addition, the paper conducts an indoor luminous environment simulation for classroom, finding problems in usual design method and proposes optimal solutions.

The factors impacting on the performance includes the size and the shape of the audience hall, the ideal value of the acoustic design, the computer simulation accuracy of the sound field, and the depth of the decoration design scheme and the systematic POE analysis of the quality of the audience hal. This paper introduced the design process of the multi-purpose theater in Zhejiang blue-sky culture Film and Television Center, and explicated the inspiration of the acoustic design in theater building and the improvements.

Abstract:Modern architectural acoustics, as a branch of acoustics, was founded by W. C. Sabine in Harvard Universtiy in early 1900s. From the correction & research for acoustical difficulty in Great Hall of Tsinghua University in 1920s to the independent architectural acoustics founded in China in late 1950s, the transplantation of architectural acoustics to China completed. From the angle of scientific sociology, this article narrates the history of how architectural acoustics transplanted to China, analyses different topics of three different phases, and reveals the key role of two generations of scientists represented by Ye Qisun and Ma Dayou. Scientific community and social context influence the logical process of architectural acoustics transplanted to China. From the research subject, researchers, academic environment and academic institutions, Tsinghua University play an original significant role in this process of transplantation.

Abstract:Concert hall is a complex system containing different building elements and technical issues such as acoustics, sight, circulation, ventilation, etc. It takes designers a lot of efforts to modify the design or test its technical performance when using traditional design method. We explored the possibilities of applying parametric design method to concert hall design, developing an interactive parametric tool which could modify all the building elements according to designers' desires and functional needs, reducing designers' work burden; meanwhile, it could simultaneously show the acoustic attributes of the design, aiding to acquire a satisfactory technical performance. This paper introduces the basic framework of the parametric tool and also shows an example to demonstrate its validity.

Abstract:This paper analyses the case study results in eight types of public buildings, including railway stations, shopping malls, libraries, open plan offices, football stadia, swimming spaces,dining spaces, and churches, aiming at examining relationships between subjective and objective indices, as well as principles and framework for creating comfortable acoustic environments in such' non-acoustic' buildings. It is revealed that acoustic quality is an important consideration in these buildings, and it may vary considerably with the same objective acoustic indices such as sound pressure level and reverberation time. Key factors to be considered include social demographic background, psychological adaptation, sound preference, preference of acoustic treatments, interactions between acoustic and other environmental factors, and possible health effects of unsatisfactory acoustic quality.

Abstract:The National Theatre Company of China seats 886, volume 5,400 m3, and reverberation time is 1.2s without audience and orchestra. As part of the design process, measurements on CAD computer and acoustical simulation using Raynoise software and full-sized materials samples were conducted over two year period. The hall in plan is bell shape. The ceiling is a curved cloud, with its U-shape balcony above the main floor (stall), two side rails provide the useful early reflections to the central rear seating area. The unique wall architectural features around the auditorium was analyzed on the models that all interior surfaces combine to distribute sources on the stage uniformly over the seating areas and to yield optimum values for reverberation time—RT, early decay time—EDT, Lateral fraction—LF, and strength—G.

Abstract:A good school environment means that the campus environment formed by school buildings shows perfect overall characteristics and that various facilities included in the planning and design meet or surpass the demands of users in their education, living, and studying aspects. In this study, the learning space is taken as the research object to discuss the design method and value of using volcanic rock as a wall decoration material in space by carrying out sound test research on the volcanic rock material in the room. A sound field experiment was conducted based on the characteristics and principles of sound propagation in space combined with the design status quo of the teaching space and the acoustic environment in ordinary colleges and universities. Thus, the sound absorption effects of the volcanic rock used as the decoration material in teaching space and its advantages in this field were studied. The study results show that using volcanic rock in spatial design leads to better sound absorption effects than using other materials. In the future, it can be applied as an interior decoration material in spaces requiring acoustic control.
