Abstract:The sub-linear expectation or called G-expectation is a non-linear expectation having advantage of modeling non-additive probability problems and the volatility uncertainty in finance. Let $\{X_n;n\ge 1\}$ be a sequence of independent random variables in a sub-linear expectation space $(\Omega , \mathscr {H}, \widehat{\mathbb {E}})$. Denote $S_n=\sum _{k=1}^n X_k$ and $V_n^2=\sum _{k=1}^n X_k^2$. In this paper, a moderate deviation for self-normalized sums, that is, the asymptotic capacity of the event $\{S_n/V_n \ge x_n \}$ for $x_n=o(\sqrt{n})$, is found both for identically distributed random variables and independent but not necessarily identically distributed random variables. As an application, the self-normalized laws of the iterated logarithm are obtained. A Bernstein’s type inequality is also established for proving the law of the iterated logarithm.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate two types of the conditional strong law of large numbers with a new notion of conditionally independent random variables under G-expectation which are related to the symmetry G-function. Our limit theorem demonstrates that the cluster points of empirical averages fall within the bounds of the lower and upper conditional expectations with lower probability one. Moreover, for conditionally independent random variables with identical conditional distributions, we show the existence of two cluster points of empirical averages that correspond to the essential minimum and essential maximum expectations, respectively, with G-capacity one.

Abstract:In this paper, motived by the notion of independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectation initiated by Peng, we establish a three series theorem of independent random variables under the sub-linear expectations. As an application, we obtain the Marcinkiewicz's strong law of large numbers for independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectations. The technical details are different from those for classical theorems because the sub-linear expectation and its related capacity are not additive.

Abstract:In this paper we extend the notion of g-evaluation, in particular g-expectation, to the case where the generator g is allowed to have a quadratic growth. We show that some important properties of the g-expectations, including a representation theorem between the generator and the corresponding g-expectation, and consequently the reverse comparison theorem of quadratic BSDEs as well as the Jensen inequality, remain true in the quadratic case. Our main results also include a Doob-Meyer type decomposition, the optional sampling theorem, and the up-crossing inequality. The results of this paper are important in the further development of the general quadratic nonlinear expectations.

Abstract:Limit theorems for non-additive probabilities or non-linear expectations are challenging issues which have attracted a lot of interest recently. The purpose of this paper is to study the strong law of large numbers and the law of the iterated logarithm for a sequence of random variables in a sub-linear expectation space under a concept of extended independence which is much weaker and easier to verify than the independence proposed by Peng [20]. We introduce a concept of extended negative dependence which is an extension of the kind of weak independence and the extended negative independence relative to classical probability that has appeared in the recent literature. Powerful tools such as moment inequality and Kolmogorov's exponential inequality are established for these kinds of extended negatively independent random variables, and these tools improve a lot upon those of Chen, Chen and Ng [1]. The strong law of large numbers and the law of iterated logarithm are also obtained by applying these inequalities.

Abstract:Classical Kolmogorov's and Rosenthal's inequalities for the maximum partial sums of random variables are basic tools for studying the strong laws of large numbers. In this paper, motived by the notion of independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectation initiated by Peng (2008), we introduce the concept of negative dependence of random variables and establish Kolmogorov's and Rosenthal's inequalities for the maximum partial sums of negatively dependent random variables under the sub-linear expectations. As an application, we show that Kolmogorov's strong law of larger numbers holds for independent and identically distributed random variables under a continuous sub-linear expectation if and only if the corresponding Choquet integral is finite.

Abstract:The sub-linear expectation space is a nonlinear expectation space having advantages of modeling the uncertainty of probability and distribution. In the sub-linear expectation space, we use capacity and sub-linear expectation to replace probability and expectation of classical probability theory. In this paper, the method of selecting subsequence is used to prove Marcinkiewicz’s strong law of large numbers under sub-linear expectation space. This result is a natural extension of the classical Marcinkiewicz’s strong law of large numbers to the case where the expectation is nonlinear. In addition, this paper also gives a theorem about convergence of a random series.

Abstract:Let {Xn;n ≥ 1} be a sequence of independent random variables on a probability space (Ω,F,P) and $${S_n} = \sum\nolimits_{k = 1}^n {{X_k}} $$. It is well-known that the almost sure convergence, the convergence in probability and the convergence in distribution of Sn are equivalent. In this paper, we prove similar results for the independent random variables under the sub-linear expectations, and give a group of sufficient and necessary conditions for these convergence. For proving the results, the Levy and Kolmogorov maximal inequalities for independent random variables under the sub-linear expectation are established. As an application of the maximal inequalities, the sufficient and necessary conditions for the central limit theorem of independent and identically distributed random variables are also obtained.

Abstract:Kolmogorov’s exponential inequalities are basic tools for studying the strong limit theorems such as the classical laws of the iterated logarithm for both independent and dependent random variables. This paper establishes the Kolmogorov type exponential inequalities of the partial sums of independent random variables as well as negatively dependent random variables under the sub-linear expectations. As applications of the exponential inequalities, the laws of the iterated logarithm in the sense of non-additive capacities are proved for independent or negatively dependent identically distributed random variables with finite second order moments. For deriving a lower bound of an exponential inequality, a central limit theorem is also proved under the sub-linear expectation for random variables with only finite variances.

Abstract:In this paper, by establishing a Borel–Cantelli lemma for a capacity which is not necessarily continuous, and a link between a sequence of independent random variables under the sub-linear expectation and a sequence of independent random variables on ℝ∞ under a probability, we give the sufficient and necessary conditions of the strong law of large numbers for independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectation, and the sufficient and necessary conditions for the convergence of an infinite series of independent random variables, without the assumption on the continuity of the capacities. A purely probabilistic proof of a weak law of large numbers is also given.

Abstract:We develop a notion of nonlinear expectation --G-expectation-- generated by a nonlinear heat equation with infinitesimal generator G. We first study multi-dimensional G-normal distributions. With this nonlinear distribution we can introduce our G-expectation under which the canonical process is a multi dimensional G-Brownian motion. We then establish the related stochastic calculus, especially stochastic integrals of Ito's type with respect to our G-Brownian motion and derive the related Ito's formula. We have also obtained the existence and uniqueness of stochastic differential equation under our G-expectation.

Abstract:We utilize an ergodic theory framework to explore sublinear expectation theory. Specifically, we investigate the pointwise Birkhoff's ergodic theorem for invariant sublinear expectation systems. By further assuming that these sublinear expectation systems are ergodic, we derive stronger results. Furthermore, we relax the conditions for the law of large numbers and the strong law of large numbers under sublinear expectations from independent and identical distribution to $\alpha$-mixing. These results can be applied to a class of stochastic differential equations driven by $G$-Brownian motion (i.e., $G$-SDEs), such as $G$-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes. As byproducts, we also obtain a series of applications for classical ergodic theory and capacity theory.

Abstract:The expectation is an example of a descriptive statistic that is monotone with respect to stochastic dominance, and additive for sums of independent random variables. We provide a complete characterization of such statistics, and explore a number of applications to models of individual and group decision-making. These include a representation of stationary monotone time preferences, extending the work of Fishburn and Rubinstein (1982) to time lotteries. This extension offers a new perspective on risk attitudes toward time, as well as on the aggregation of multiple discount factors. We also offer a novel class of nonexpected utility preferences over gambles which satisfy invariance to background risk as well as betweenness, but are versatile enough to capture mixed risk attitudes.

Abstract:In the framework of sublinear expectation, we have introduced a new type of G-Gaussian random fields, which contain a type of spatial white noise as a special case. Based on this result, we also have introduced a spatial-temporal G-white noise. Different from the case of linear expectation, in which the probability measure need to be known, under the uncertainty of the probability measure, the spatial white noises are intrinsically different from the temporal one.
