Abstract:Astrocytes isolated from brains of newborn mice were prepared by collagenase digestion, filtration, differential conglutination. Cells from a confluent celll monolayer were cultured under lliquied paraffin to make hypoxic conditions in order to observe the ultrastructural changes(routine culture was made as control). Normal as trocytes posses well-developed mitochondria. The Golgi apparatus and rough endoplasmic re ticulum are poorly developed. After hypoxia, Microvilli increased and mitochondria swelled, lysossomes are numerous. Astrocytes kept both daage and plerosis after hypoxia.
