Abstract:The effect of sludge dosage on the basic features of sludge coal water slurry(S-CWS),such as the rheology behavior,stability and combustion characteristics were discussed and compared with coal water slurry(CWS).Results showed that S-CWS with 5%~10% sludge added had favorable stability and rheological characteristics under conditions of 0.6%~1.2% dispersant and 0.1% stabilizer.With the increase of sludge content in slurry,the ignition temperatures went down,while the burnout temperature was brought forward and combustion properties became better.Experiments in the tube furnace indicated that S-CWS had greater sulfur retention than CWS,and the sulfur precipitation rate increased with temperature rising.

Abstract:This work presents the influence of dispersants on coal-water slurry (CWS), which was prepared from the solid residue of plasma pyrolysis of coal. The effects of dispersant type, solid concentration, dispersant content, and temperature on the rheological properties of CWS are examined. A suitable empirical model regarding the relation between viscosity and temperature is proposed. Through the sedimentation experiment of CWS, dispersants are found to significantly promote the stability of CWS.

Abstract:As massive amount of solid residue is produced from plasma pyrolysis of coal, reasonable use of such residue is significant in protecting environment and improving economic performance. This work is focusing on the fundamental research of the characteristics of coal-water slurry (CWS) prepared from the solid residue of plasma pyrolysis of coal. The effect of particle size, solid concentration, pH and temperature on the rheological properties of CWS is investigated. Shear-thinning behavior of suspension has been observed depending on component content and operating conditions. Static stability is also investigated by sedimentation test. Abstract:Dispersants, serving as an essential raw material in the formulation of coal water slurry, offer an economical and convenient solution for enhancing slurry concentration, thus stimulating significant interest in the development of novel and efficient dispersants. This paper intends to illuminate the evolution of dispersants by examining both the traditional and the newly conceived types and elaborating on their respective mechanisms of influence on slurry performance. Dispersants can be classified into anionic, cationic, amphoteric, and non-ionic types based on their dissociation properties. They can be produced by modifying either natural or synthetic products. The molecular structure of a dispersant allows for further categorization into one-dimensional, two-dimensional, or three-dimensional structure dispersants. This document succinctly outlines dispersants derived from natural products, three-dimensional structure dispersants, common anionic dispersants such as lignin and naphthalene, and amphoteric and non-ionic dispersants. Subsequently, the adsorption mechanism of dispersants, governed by either electrostatic attraction or functional group effects, is elucidated. The three mechanisms through which dispersants alter the surface properties of coal, namely the wetting dispersion effect, electrostatic repulsion effect, and steric hindrance effect, are also explained. The paper concludes with an exploration of the challenges and emerging trends in the domain of dispersants.

Slurry Ability of Coal Water Slurry Prepared with Two Kinds of Sewage Sludge

Abstract:The feasibility of preparation of sludge coal water slurry (S-CWS) with pulverized coal and sewage sludge with high moisture content was studied. Various factors related to the formation of the slurry,such as the ratio of sludge combination,ratio of dispersant,temperature,and stirring time,were investigated. Based on the data,when the ratio of NDF dispersant was below 10%,it was feasible to prepare S-CWS with sludge and pulverized coal. The apparent viscosity of the two kinds of S-CWS with sludge ratios of 5% to 10% decreased with the increase of the dispersant. Raising the temperature also improved the fluidity of the S-CWS. The stability of the S-CWS was better than that of ordinary CWS. This test provides a referenced mean for sewage sludge used as a resource to make S-CWS.

Abstract:Ideal coal water slurry(CWS) with maximum coal loading should be relatively stable at static stability and good rheological behavior.Additives have usually been used to improve the slurryability and rheological behavior as well as static stability of CWS to meet requirement of its transportation,storage and combustion in industrial application.The selection of high efficient additives is one of the key steps for preparation of CWS.Therefore,the investigation of the relationships between the properties of CWS and molecular structure of additives plays an important role in selecting high efficient additives.In this paper,7 additives with different structural characteristics and 8 coals are selected to evaluate the correlation between the structural characteristics of additives and the properties of CWS.The results indicate that introducing methyl substitute into the monomer of polynuclear aromatic sulphonate promotes the rheological behavior and the static stability of CWS,but at the same time it is unfavorable for the slurryability of CWS.The presence of benzyl substitute improves the slurryability of CWS prepared with coals of low content of Oad,but it is unfavorable for improving the static stability of CWS.CWS with high coal loading could be prepared by using both low rank coals with a lot of polar oxygen groups and humate additive with high degree of sulphonation.It is also found that additives of humate and lignosulfonate with high degree of sulphonation increase the static stability of CWS prepared by coals with high content of Vdaf.

Abstract:This study investigates the effects of additive adsorption onto coal particles on surface properties, hydrophobic groups on the slurryability, and the moisture occurrence form on the performance of coal water slurry (CWS). Mechanisms related to the different hydrophobic structures of the additives are proposed. The adsorption method of sulfonated acetone formaldehyde enhances the adsorption capacity of coal surfaces but is not conducive to slurrying. Sodium lignin sulfonate has hydrophobic ends with nonpolar aromatic groups, three-dimensional macromolecular structures, and complex branched chains, which provide CWS with good stability and slurryability. Naphthalenesulfonate formaldehyde has a double benzene ring structure and provides the thick but nonuniform adsorption layers on coal surfaces. The many amorphous structures and low molecular weights of sodium humic sulfonate lead to nonuniform hydration films and poor slurryability. The results of this paper provide guidance for improving synergism in coal–water–additive systems and enhancing slurry performance.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem for preparing high mass fraction coal-water slurry from Huating coal due to its high water mass fraction, and based on the characteristics of Huating coal, the four types of additives in two categories of NDF-series and WHK were selected so as to find out the influence of the additive characteristics, additive ratio, coal powder ratio, particle size distribution and mill load on the mass fraction of the slurry. The result shows that the sequence of the slurrying mass fraction with different additives is NDF-10 > NDF-02 > NDF-01 > WHK, the proper additive ratio is 0.3%-0.4%, the crude/fine powder ratio is about 1.5 to 1.6 and the mill load is 30 t/h, and the slurry mass fraction can reach as high as 71.5%. The experiment indicates that through the renovation of additive and optimizing the operation conditions, the high mass fraction coal-water slurry can be got in the industrial production.

Abstract:<p>It remains a significant subject on preparing high concentrated coal water slurry (CWS) from low quality coals to address the raw material supply for slurry preparation. The performance and dispersing mechanism of anionic dispersants in slurries prepared by upgraded coal, which was refined from a low quality coal, had been investigated systematically. The rheological behaviors of CWS prepared with each dispersant, i.e. sodium lignosulfonate (SLF), naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde (NSF) and sodium polystyrene sulfonate (PSS), were studied at first; afterwards the governing factors on slurry concentration improvement and dispersion mechanism of coal particles modified by dispersant were investigated. The results illustrated that the maximum coal loading of CWS prepared with SLF, NSF and PSS were 67%, 70% and 68%, respectively, which suggested that the improvement of slurry concentration by each dispersant was NSF > PSS > SLF. According to the surface tension, yield stress and UV measurement, the effect of dispersants on slurry concentration improvement mainly relied on the adsorption by coal particles instead of surface tension reduction on solvent or its inherent steric hindrance. Subsequently, the contact angle and zeta potential analysis further indicated the excellent dispersing performance obtained by anionic dispersant was mainly attributed to the enhancement of zeta potential instead of wetting property on coal surface. The Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) calculations revealed that the electrostatic repulsion energy was improved significantly among coal particles after dispersant adsorption. A model on dispersion mechanism by anionic dispersants has been proposed. These results demonstrated that the promotion effect on slurry concentration by anionic dispersant in CWS was mainly attributed to enhancement on electrostatic repulsive force among upgraded coal particles.</p>

Abstract:High-concentration organic waste liquids have complex components and their treatment is difficult. These liquids also contain hydrophobic organic pollutants. The preparation of waste liquid coal water slurry (WCWS) can aid with environmental protection and resource utilization. In this study, xanthan gum was selected from 11 types of additives because it overcomes the problem of solution incompatibility during the mixing of various high-concentration organic waste liquids. The experimental results showed that with 0.08 wt% addition of xanthan gum, no stratification occurred in the mixed waste liquid and the apparent viscosity of the WCWS was 921.1 mPa.s. In this study, the role of xanthan gum was studied, and the effect of its addition on the coal particle surface was characterized by zeta potential and contact angle measurement. In addition, various interaction energies in the WCWS system were calculated using the extended DLVO theory. The results showed that xanthan gum introduced steric hindrance interaction energy into the WCWS system, enabling the system to be stably dispersed.
Co-slurryability of modified sewage sludge and anthracite

Abstract:The co-slurryability of anthracite and modified sewage sludge has been investigated with two dispersants of naphthalene sulfonate sodium formaldehyde condensate and sodium polycarboxylate. The results show that co-slurryability concentration is higher than 60% while the mass ratio of dry sewage to coal is lower than 4:100. With increasing the mass ratio of dry sewage, co-slurryability concentration decreases. The stability of coal-water-sewage slurry becomes better than that of coal-water slurry. When the ratio of dry sewage to coal is 4:100, the period of stability is more than 160 h, similar to the coal-water slurry with stabilizer B. Coal-water-sewage slurry is pseudoplastic fluid and favorable to transportation. The loose floccules characteristic, honeycomb surface and great adsorption ability of sewage play the key role in improvement of concentration, stability and rheology of the coal-water-sewage slurry.

Abstract:Blend two kinds of high-moisture dewatered sludge with Yanzhou coal to prepare coal-sludge slurry by wet milling process.Investigate the influence of sludge addition on wet milling grinding efficiency.By changing additive amount of sludge,analyse the slurryability,combustion enthalpy and ash fusion temperatures of prepared coal water slurry.Analyse the reasons from the aspects of particle size distribution,surface morphology and ash composition etcetera.The results show that,the addition of dewatered sludge can improve the grinding efficiency and stability of coal-sludge slurry in the wet milling process.The coal-sludge slurry present better pseudoplastic characteristic.The combustion enthalpy of sludge coal-water slurry value is slightly lower than that of coal-water slurry,but still meet the requirement of combustion.The suitable sludge blending ratio is 10 percent,when the slurry concentration of coal-sludge slurry can reach up to 60 percent,and all properties can meet industrial requirements.

Abstract:The classification of coal water slurry (CWS) dispersant and its mechanism are briefly introduced,and the research status of CWS compound dispersant at home and abroad is analyzed and discussed in detail,and the development trend of compound dispersant is discussed.There are much research and application of anionic-anionic compound dispersant,and the price is cheap,but the ability in reducing viscosity is general.In addition,the anionic-nonionic dispersant can play a significant synergistic effect,it has a better dispersion effect,but the cost is higher.Therefore,the development of a wide range of adaptability,high efficiency and low cost compound dispersant is the future direction of development.
The Enhancement on Rheology, Flowability, and Stability of Coal Water Slurry Prepared by Multipeak Gradation Technology

Abstract:Multipeaking gradation technology is an essential method for improving the slurry ability of coal particles. In this study, the coarse (150–300 μm), fine (54–74 μm), and micro (1–10 μm) coal particles with different ratios were applied to prepare coal water slurry (CWS). The ratio of coarse, fine, and micro particles in bimodal CWS, interval bimodal CWS, and triple-peak CWS was 60:40:0, 60:0:40, and 60:24:16, respectively. The effects of multipeaking technology on stability, flowability, and rheological behaviors of CWS were investigated systematically. The results indicated that the interval bimodal CWS had the best stability and flowability followed by the triple-peak CWS, and the bimodal CWS was the worst. It was demonstrated that the stability and flowability of CWS were enhanced with the increment of microparticles in slurry. Nevertheless, each slurry's maximum solid content was 68% for bimodal CWS, 65% for interval bimodal CWS, and 70% for triple-peak CWS. It could be attributed to two effects of microparticles on the apparent viscosity of CWS, i.e., filling particle clearance and binding water. If the effect of filling particle clearance was dominant, then apparent viscosity was decreased, and it was beneficial to prepare CWS with high solid content like triple-peak CWS. However, when the effect of binding water was dominant, apparent viscosity was increased, and it was unfavorable for CWS preparation corresponding to interval bimodal CWS. It was worth noting that microparticles play a double side role in preparing highly concentrated CWS.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Due to SF coal has high content of moisture and oxygen-containing groups,so it's difficult to obtain high-concentration coal-water slurry.In this paper,we have studied the preparation process conditions of coal-water slurry has particle classification and dispersant compound etc.Research has demonstrated that when the ratio of particle classification 500 mesh,325 mesh and 200 mesh is 5∶1∶4,the ratio of dispersant of ethoxylated dodecylalcohol and sodium lignin sulfonate is 0.8∶0.8,the coal-water slurry has the lowest apparent viscosity for 1 020 mPa·s,the best stability of 15 d and the higher concentration of 62%.

Abstract:The development and application of high-efficiency coal-water slurry (CWS) dispersants can foster the clean utilization of natural coal. CWS with excellent flowability and stability requires good adsorption capacity of dispersant on pulverized coal surface, which is influenced substantially by the architecture and hydrophilicity of dispersants molecule. In this study, a series of neutralized sulfonated poly(styrene-alt-maleic anhydride) (NSPSM) with different molecular weight (Mn) and sulfonation degree (SD) were synthesized by self-stabilized precipitation polymerization (2SP), gas-solid heterogeneous sulfonation reaction (GSR) and neutralization reaction with NaOH. The performance of NSPSM for CWS, and their dispersion and stabilization mechanisms were investigated in detail. Under optimized conditions, maximum slurry concentration (MSC) and water separation ratio (WSR) of slurry with NSPSM could reach 66.5% and 2.0%, respectively, which are superior to commercial naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate (NSF) dispersant. The outstanding dispersibility of NSPSM was ascribed to its improved adsorption capacity due to increased charge density along polymer chain, which can prevent agglomeration among coal particles through electrostatic repulsion.

Abstract:Dispersants are chemical moieties that modify interfacial characteristics by adsorption at the solid-liquid interface, and they have been widely used in modern industrial production. This review focuses on the research and perspectives of anionic dispersants for coal-water slurry (CWS). Various common anionic dispersants are briefly summarized, including natural and synthetic species. The interactions between coal particles in the CWS suspension, including van der Waals attraction and electrostatic repulsion, are described by the DLVO (Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek) theory. Due to the hydrophobic interaction and the steric effect resulting from the adsorption of polymer dispersants, the extended DLVO theory is introduced to elucidate the various interactions in the CWS system. Based on the interactions between the coal particles, the adsorption behaviors at the coal-water interface, and the interactions between coal and water, the dispersion and stabilization mechanisms are systematically and theoretically discussed. According to the variations of interaction energies between the coal particles, the use of anionic polymer dispersants can weaken the hydrophobic attraction and enhance the steric hindrance and electrostatic repulsion. Also, the rheological behaviors of CWSs are outlined, with emphasis on the pipeline transportation of CWS and the three-parameter Herschel-Bulkley model. Additionally, the properties of anionic dispersants for CWS can be improved by adjusting their chemical structures such as molecular weight, side chain length, rigidity and flexibility of the molecular chain, and variety, quantity, position, and proportion of hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups. In view of the relationships between the structure and property, a direction on the selection and preparation of dispersant for CWS is suggested. Finally, the current challenges and future perspectives of dispersants for CWS are put forward.
Design and evaluation of a novel dispersant with "surface-to-surface" adsorption function for preparing low-rank coal water slurry

Abstract:It is important to improve the performance of low-rank coal water slurry (CWS) for the development of coal gasification. In this study, to prepare high-quality Shenhua coal water slurry, a novel GON-APEG dispersant with "surface-to-surface" adsorption function was designed and synthesized by grafting the allyl polyoxyethylene ether (APEG) onto the edge of graphite oxide nanosheet (GON) through esterification and emulsion polymerization . The influences of GON-APEG on the properties of CWS, the adsorption isotherm of GON-APEG, and the surface properties of coal were studied, and compared with GON, sodium lignosulphonate (SL), and polycarboxylate (PC) dispersants. The GON-APEG was superior to other dispersants in viscosity-reducing and stabilizing ability. Under the optimum dosage of 0.3 wt%, the maximum coal content of CWS with GON-APEG was 64.5 wt%. All the CWSs with different dispersants belonged to typical yield pseudoplastic fluid. Meanwhile, the adsorption isotherms of four dispersants had a good correlation with the Langmuir model, and the saturated adsorption capacity of GON-APEG was greater than SL and PC dispersants. The GON-APEG decreased the contact angle of water on the coal surface and increased the absolute value of Zeta potential of coal to the greatest extent. The excellent performance of GON-APEG in CWS was due to its strong interaction with coal derived from "surface-to-surface" adsorption mode, which was beneficial to regulate the surface properties of coal. In sum, this study provides a new idea for improving the properties of Shenhua coal water slurry and developing the efficient dispersants in other fields.
