Flexible Design Modeling Methodology for MEMS Based on Petri Net

Abstract:Micro-scale effect and multi-field coupling are characteristics of the design of micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS). However, the current macroscopic structure-oriented CAD systems have not been able to meet the increasing requirements for the design in micrometer scale. Therefore, a flexible design modeling methodology for MEMS based on Petri net is put forward. Firstly, the highly cohesive and low coupling modules are obtained via refining and abstracting the existing CAD systems on the basis of analyzing the design characteristics, framework and process of MEMS. Secondly, the flexible design modeling framework for MEMS based on Petri net is built by associating the Petri net with the modules of the design system. Then, the forward-position places and weighted directed arcs are added to regulate the maximum and minimum tokens of the places to control the number of design flow. Afterwards, the control places are added to format control loops and make concurrent transitions occur orderly to solve the conflicts in concurrent design. Finally, the modules are controlled to operate with the state space results of Petri net. The multiple relationships between the complex design flows are then realized. An independent prototype system using ACIS as geometry modeling kernel has been developed to validate the proposed method with the design of capacitive 3D silicon micro comb drive. The test results proved that the present design methods are extended from top-down, bottom-up and hybrid to flexible design based on Petri net. The product design is no longer restricted to fixed process. It has important significance to improve efficiency and quality of the design of MEMS.

Abstract:To meet requirements of intelligent design of product layout,a novel approach is put forward on the basis of analyzing product structure layout constraints.The methodology is defined as a fusion model constructed through a position graph and a performance model.The performance model is a mapping among product function requirements model,movement allocation model and simplified module structure;the product topological layout structure is described by a lower body array.A position graph is used to illustrate the relation as location,order and adjacency of product module spatial layout structure,and also to assemble the layout structure.Product layout design system is developed by using VC.net 2003 under the Pro/E platform,as an example,the layout design of NC machine tools proves the applicability and effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:The product test of PCB (printed circuit board), which checks the open circuit, short circuit, line cauterization and so on, is very important. It ensures the product quality and affects the cost of the PCB. A PCB test system integrates the testing point generation, testing-point linking and blueprint generation into one system. This paper deals with the design and implementation of a PCB testing system, especially the key algorithms in the implementation of the automatic testing point linking and the optimization of sequence strings' location. The algorithm of testing point linking cab improve the product quality and speedup the testing point linking process. The optimization algorithm of sequence strings' location can search the interspace of a linking graph automatically.

Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems

Abstract:After analyzing the manufacture process of Printed Circuit Board(PCB), as well as the yield loss and its related design characteristics, the paper presents an evaluation model and the corresponding knowledge-base of PCB Design for Manufacture(DFM). This quadruple arguments evaluation model can be used for computing the relative costs between different PCB implementations. The process-dependent knowledge is discussed in detail. Moreover, an Internet PCB DFM system based on the CSCW platform which can realize the knowledge updating and inforamtion sharing between designers and manufacturers, is also presented. An actual example running on this system is shown, which demonstrates the effectiveness of both the evaluation model and the knowledge-base.

Abstract:To solve the problems in multi-tech system product design such as the low efficiency and frequent reworking as well as iteractive processes,the two-layer design structure matrix(DSM) method was presented.Plastic injection molding machine system design was taken as an example,and the design information was described into two levels to illustrate the optimization principle and assessing criteria.Additionally,the key mission was picked up and the relationship between two layers was built,then accomplishing the transform from complex relationship within coupling missions to simple processing communication.The result demonstrates that the optimization about process planing works with less reworking,simple coupling and clear process.

Abstract:Mechanical design have experienced a long process of development, the improvement of design method and optimization method have always been the pursuit of any designer. In recent years, introduction of CAD/CAE have increased greatly the speed of design and experiment, making mechanical design undergo a fundamental leap. However, the whole process: design-trial-improvement, still needs manual control to complete, designers still face the problem of complex repeating process. In views of this bottleneck, we will conduct parametric modeling on complex mechanical system in PRO/E, and let key parts import into ANSYS to be flexible .Then, we will build and analyze rigid-flexible mixture virtual prototyping in automatic dynamic analysis of mechanical systems. At last, we will integrate this process in ISIGHT3.5, exploring design-trial-improvement integrated optimization and simulation method through the optimization of the size of key parts of complex mechanical system.

Abstract:Computer aided design software enables the rapid conceptual creation of a curved surface geometry, whereas it is neither a convenient nor an obvious task for engineers to create a discrete grid structure on a complex surface that meets architectural and aesthetic requirements. This emphasizes the importance of grid generating tools and methods in the initial design stage. This paper presents an efficient design tool for the synthesis of free-form grid structures based on the “guide line” method, employing a fast and straightforward approach which achieves grids with rods of balanced length and fluent lines. The process starts with defining a limited number of curves (named the “guide lines”) on the surface, which are then used to determine the directions of the ‘rods’ of the grid. Two variations of this concept are introduced in this paper: the ‘Guide Line Scaling Method’ (GSM) and the ‘Two Guide Lines with Two End Vertices Method’ (2G2VM). Case studies are provided which illustrate the successful execution of these procedures. The results show that the free-form grid structures generated with the proposed methods feature a regular shape and fluent lines, thereby satisfying aesthetic requirements. These two methods have been programmed into the software ZD-Mesher, enabling rapid grid generation for structural design purposes.

Abstract:A design method and primary functions of pattern preparation system of computerized flat knitting machine are introduced. The system provides a formidable mapping system based on object-oriented and multi-document, so pattern becomes simple and flexible to be edited and displayed. In addition, the compiler has a novel method of compiling pattern data. Two pattern description files (PAT and CNT) are generated after compiled, which include all control information that computerized flat knitting machine needs. The system also provides a direct and friendly interface, through which user can accomplish pattern design quickly and conveniently.

Abstract:In the paper, a domain decomposition procedure for the structure of multilayer power/ground planes is presented in the way that the spatial computational domain of PCBs/packages is decomposed as a collection of sub-domains: bounded parallel plane pairs and open plane areas. The pairs and areas are modeled as multiport microwave networks and connected by maintaining the continuity of tangential fields along the boundary of sub-domains. The second contribution of the paper is to propose S-Parameters representing the multiport networks and introduce the connection networks to maintain the continuity of voltages and equivalent currents. Using S-Parameters will make the computation stable while applying (and/or approaching) the boundary conditions of perfect electric conductor (PEC) and perfect magnetic conductor (PMC). The formulation of multiport network of a parallel plane pair is detailed, and how vias and striplines in the parallel plane pair are considered in the formulation is discussed. Finally, the solving method of an interconnected general S-Parameters based microwave network system is presented.

Abstract:Most appearance and structure design has always been based on the product processing technology as the spindle, in general; sheet metal design changes in the appearance of the structure is based mainly on the basic structure of products and processing technology as the main core, and the appearance of manufacturing more Mechanical sheet metal, so most designers will use different design procedures to draw 3D graphics in the assembly or disassembly of parts, but different drawing procedures will affect the future assembly and disassembly of the design. In this study, we will compare two different models by building a model program using two different sheet metal structure drawings to present the problems that may be encountered in sheet metal design through a specific design flow. Through a real 3D drawing and design case, 3D graphics design flow, and finally through a design case to do a verification, to provide a reference for the future design.

Abstract:Electronics prototyping using breakout boards allows designers with and without an engineering background to rapidly create interactive prototypes. However, when it comes to transition to a production-ready PCB design, stagnation exists due to the high skill floor required for PCB design. While PCB design automation has been used successfully in recent research tools to reduce the required expertise, little has been done to integrate these tools directly into the electronics prototyping cycle. This position paper aims to bring attention to the possibility of integrating recent PCB design automation paradigms into the electronics prototyping cycle for the creation of PCB-ready breakout boards: breakout boards whose designs would have the ability to be pipelined directly into new user interfaces that leverage the use of automation for the rapid creation of production-ready PCB designs.

Abstract:Modular fixture design is a complex process. Computer-aided modular fixture design can help to accumulate the experience and technology of fixture designer. In this paper, the optimal configuration method of hole modular fixture is studied in computer-aided modular fixture design. Firstly, the characteristics of the modular fixture is analyzed, with the detail information needed during the fixture design process given, including the structure information, function information and assembly feature information of the element. Fixture information description model is built to support the database design of the modular fixture and the automatical generation of the modular fixture. An optimized configuration algorithm is studied to generate the modular fixture from the fixture elements to meet the requirements. Finally, an illustration is provided to testify the feasibility the algorithm.

Abstract:With the improvement of SoC design flow, early system prototype is an efficient way in which designers can find function bugs and performance limitations. The SystemC transaction-level model, a high level system model, has been attracted great attentions in embedded system design community. In this paper, we present a system prototype methodology, its corrective modeling technique and development environment. Our transaction-level executable model covers the range from top-level specific application to low-level infrastructure and some OS-like support functions. We develop a tool called transaction viewer to analyze the simulation results. The demonstration of audio communication is provided as an example for highlighting the whole design process.
