Abstract:Based on statistics of monthly maximum precipitation and extremely high and low temperatures from 15 weather stations in the Qiantangjiang Basin from 1951 to 2008,the characteristics of the spatial distribution and change trend of extreme temperatures and maximum precipitation in different regions and seasons were analyzed with the co-kriging interpolation method and the Mann-Kendall trend method.The results show the following: the maximum precipitation shows a gradually decreasing trend in general,while the extreme temperatures have a rising trend;the maximum precipitation has an increasing trend in the summer and a decreasing trend in other seasons,and the extreme temperatures have a decreasing trend in all seasons;and there are obvious differences in the extreme temperatures between various areas in the Qiantangjiang Basin: the extremely high temperature grows rapidly in the coastal areas,particularly in Sheng County,while the change trend is not obvious in Chun'an County.

Abstract:In this study, the spatial and temporal characteristics of rainfall and the risk of meteorological drought based on precipitation data observed in 22 meteorological stations over the period 1961 to 2020 in Shanxi province were analyzed. Four precipitation indices and modified Mann–Kendall test were used to analyze the patterns and trends of precipitation. Furthermore, the risk analysis for drought duration and severity of meteorological drought were analyzed with entropy copula. Results showed that the precipitation distribution is irregular and precipitation in central northern parts of Shanxi is more concentrated than that in southern Shanxi. The annual and seasonal precipitation concentration showed no significant change in most stations, while the daily precipitation concentration decreased in a few areas. Results also disclose that the number of droughts (which SPI3 values are less than 0) ranged from 61 to 80 during 1961–2020 and Shanxi tends to dry. The most severe drought event with the longest duration (27 months) and the largest severity (29.7) occurred at station 53,775. The entropy copula is suitable for drought frequency analysis and return period calculation and results indicate that the middle and northern parts of Shanxi are at high risk of drought according to the entropy copula calculated joint return period.

Abstract:AbstractUnder the background of global warming, an analysis of the trend and variability of rainfall time series on various timescales is very important for understanding climate change on a regional scale. In this study, a trend analysis of rainfall time series on monthly, seasonal, and annual scales in Shanxi province, China, during the period 1957–2019 was conducted using the Mann–Kendall test and Sen’s slope estimator. Statistical characteristics and the distribution of rainfall were examined using commonly used statistical indicators and the precipitation concentration index (PCI). Three rainfall-based indices, standardized anomaly index (SAI), rainfall anomaly index (RAI), and standardized precipitation index (SPI), were used to investigate the rainfall variability and drought conditions in Shanxi province over the period 1957–2019. The results showed that a statistically significant decreasing trend occurred in March and July at significance levels of 1% and 10%, respectively. Spring and autumn showed an upward trend, and summer and winter exhibited a downward trend. An insignificant decreasing trend was detected for the annual rainfall series. Summer experienced the largest decrease rate of rainfall (− 0.808 mm/year). The climate of Shanxi province is gradually becoming dry. However, rainfall presented a recovery tendency after entering the twenty-first century. The findings in this study can provide useful information for agricultural production, water resource planning, and socioeconomic development.

Historical variation and response relationship of precipitation and runoff for the Zhongxi River catchment in Shanxi Province

Abstract:It is of great importance for regional water resources assessment to correctly understand the trend of climate hydrological evolution in changing environment.Taking the Zhongxi River catchment in Shanxi Province as a case, historical variations and phases features of precipitation and runoff from 1958-2015 were investigated using Mann-Kendall method and cluster analysis method, and the precipitation-runoff relationships at different stages were analyzed.The results show that both the annual precipitation and runoff declined during 1958-2015 with linear decreasing rates of-1.05mm/a and-1.62mm/a, respectively.The years of 1970 and 1979 were detected as significant separating points of runoff series which showed three stages of changing characteristics.Runoff was highly correlated to precipitation in different phases;however, the relationships between runoff and precipitation are different in different phases, which is possibly due to the effect of human activities.It is essential to quantitatively identify contributions of changes in climate and human activities to runoff change in further studies.

Abstract:Time series of annual precipitation were adjusted from 17 hydrologic stations in Xianju county and Kuocangshan meteorological station, Xianju hydrologic station was used as one basic station in Xianju county in Zhejiang province. The short time series adjusting model of annual precipitation were established from 17 hydrologic stations and Kuocangshan meteorological station in Xianju county. The temporal variation of annual precipitation was analyzed and studied for all precipitation stations in Xianju county. The precipitation distribution model, in which annual precipitation varied with altitude, slope and aspect was established. 1:10000 scale Digital Elevation Model(DEM) with high spatial resolution was built by using 1:10000 scale Xianju topographic map. The topographic factors were derived from DEM. Spatial distribution models of annual precipitation were established by combining DEM and the precipitation distribution model. Spatial distribution maps of annual precipitation with high spatial resolution in Xianju county were generated.

Abstract:The data resources depended on topography feather of Jilin Province are chosen from precipitation station and runoff station with high representative from the eastern,middle,western part during 1956-2000.And all those are used to analysis the distribution for years of average natural runoff and typical runoff.The annual runoff change tendency is assessed by Mann-Kendall rank trend test and then spatial characteristics of volume of runoff is analyzed based on runoff depth contour line and variation coefficient Cv.At last,with the main factors such as precipitation,climate,topography and geomorphology,drainage network,cause of formation of the temporal variation characteristics of runoff are analyzed.The findings from data analysis are as follows:distribution of inter-annual runoff of Jilin province mainly concentrated in June to September.The variation of runoff was related to the position.According to Mann-Kendall rank test index was-0.07we can see the reduce tendency of intra-annual runoff.There was obvious zonality of runoff in Jilin Province and eastern volume of runoff was large with little change as a result of low mountains,and the western was opposite.There is more correlation between precipitation and runoff,but the correlation coefficient is less than 0.8of Yanbian in 1967-1975.And precipitation and runoff double cumulative curve have mutations of Yanbian、Jilin、Baicheng in 1975、 1978、1984year.Topography and river network also influence on runoff formation and distribution.
Conceptual Models and physical quantity feature analysis of short-term heavy precipitation during dominant flood season in Tangshan Prefecture,Hebei Province

Abstract:Based on the precipitation data from regional automatic weather stations and NCEP reanalysis data from 2006 to 2013,EOF analysis and meso-scale weather analysis were performed and used to explore the tem-poral-spatial distribution of short-term precipitation,and to study synoptic conceptual models and physical pa-rameters of the dominant flood season in Tangshan. It is found that the northeast of Tangshan Prefecture is an ac-tive region of short-term precipitation while the southwest of the prefecture is inactive,but the southwest of it has more extreme short-term heavy precipitation;there are five types of spatial distribution of precipitation in the prefecture:unanimous,northwest abundant,southeast abundant,northeast abnormal abundant and northeast ab-normal scarce. Distribution of precipitation depends on whether shear line on 700 hPa breaks or not,and on the positions of the subtropical high and high-low jet streams,and the configuration of high-low arid-humid regions;Short-term heavy precipitation has a common features in physical parameters:ample vapor,thick warm cloud layer,weak wind shear,instable energy,low SWEAT and high 0℃isotherm. Most types have strong vapor con-vergence,but northeast anomalous abundant type has weak vapor convergence,where the vapor mainly comes from this locality.

Abstract:Precipitation, as an important part of the hydrological cycle, is often related to flood and drought. In this study, we collected daily rainfall data from 21 rainfall stations in Shaanxi Province from 1961 to 2017, and calculated eight extreme climate indices. Annual and seasonal concentration indices (CI) were also calculated. The trends in the changes in precipitation were calculated using the M–K test and Sen's slope. The results show that the precipitation correlation index and CI (concentration index) in Shaanxi Province are higher in the south and lower in the north. For the annual scale, the CI value ranges from 0.6369 to 0.6820, indicating that Shaanxi Province has a high precipitation concentration and an uneven distribution of annual precipitation. The eight extreme precipitation indices of most rainfall stations showed a downward trend during the study period, and more than half of the stations passed the 0.05 confidence interval test. Among them, the Z value of PRCPTOT (annual total precipitation in wet days) at Huashan station reached −6.5270. The lowest slope of PRCPTOT reached −14.3395. This shows that annual rainfall in Shaanxi Province has been decreasing in recent decades. These findings could be used to make decisions about water resources and drought risk management in Shaanxi Province, China.

Abstract:Different from the framework of multiple linear regression based on least square method, this paper tries to apply a novel second-generation regression method based on partial least-squares to precipitation estimation in China for the first time. The 45-yr precipitation data from 394 meteorological stations in study area are used. Several simple formulae used to estimate the annual mean and seasonal precipitation have been obtained, and the characteristics of the geographic or topographic effects have been presented. The impact factors include longitude, latitude, height, slope, sloping direction and close limit. The results show that the fraction of the variation of response explained by the model is above 70%, and the average correlation coefficients are nearly all above 0.84. The results are satisfied through the test of cross-validation. Through it is not appropriate to set up multiple linear regression models, the estimated precipitation based on partial least-squares regression correctly replicates real spatial distribution of precipitation qualitatively and quantitatively.
Analyses on Trends of Annual and Seasonal Four Kinds of Daily Precipitation in China

Abstract:Basing on a dataset of daily precipitation of 554 stations covering the landmass of China during 1961-2003,the linear trends in the annual precipitation,seasonal precipitation and four kinds of precipitation by the method of linear regression are analyzed,and the trends of extreme precipitation defined by two different definitions are compared.The results reveal that the annual precipitation has significantly increased over the northwest of China,the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River valley and the South China but significantly decreased over the northern China and the Sichuan Basin.Through the analyses of the trends of seasonal four kinds of precipitation,it is found that the precipitation of four seasons over northwest of China show increasing trends and the precipitation have increasing trends mostly in summer and winter over the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River valley,while the four kinds of precipitation over northern China have decreased in four seasons.It is notable that the extreme precipitation have increased significantly over northern China,the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River valley,part of southwest of China and the littoral of southern China,but North China,Sichuan Basin and parts of northeast of China show obvious decreasing trends.

Abstract:Introduction: With global warming, the disaster losses caused by extreme precipitation events are increasing. The poor natural conditions and climate change make the arid and semi-arid mountainous grassland area a sensitive region of climate change. The study on the spatio-temporal variation characteristics of extreme precipitation events in this region is helpful to improve the ability of climate prediction and disaster prevention and reduction in grassland. Methods: Based on the daily precipitation data of four meteorological monitoring stations in the Yinshanbeilu from 1970 to 2020, the trend analysis, M-K test and wavelet analysis were used to select seven typical extreme precipitation indicators to analyze the temporal and spatial characteristics of extreme precipitation. Results and Discussion: The results showed that the precipitation in the Yinshanbeilu increased in the past 51a, and the number of heavy rain days increased significantly. The significance test of CDD and CWD showed that the number of continuous dry days and continuous wet days decreased abruptly. The spatial analysis showed that the high value areas of R95p, R95d and PRCRTOT were all located in Siziwang Banner, and it could be concluded that the extreme precipitation risk was the highest in Siziwang Banner, while the low value areas of SDII, Rx1day, R95p and PRCRTOT were all located in Sonid Right Banner, which could be inferred that the Sonid Right Banner was relatively dry. The first main cycle of the seven indexes of extreme precipitation almost runs through the whole time series, and the starting point of the minimum main cycle changes inconsistent. In addition to the number of consecutive dry days, the other indices have a good correlation with annual precipitation, flood season and monthly precipitation from June to September, and July is the peak period of extreme precipitation events.

Abstract:Abstract The Huang-Huai-Hai Plain is an important commercial grain production base in China. Understanding the temporal and spatial variations in precipitation can help prevent drought and flood disasters and ensure food security. Based on the precipitation data for the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain from 1960 to 2019, this study analysed the spatiotemporal distribution of total precipitation at different time scales using the Mann–Kendall test, the wavelet analysis, the empirical orthogonal function (EOF), and the centre-of-gravity model. The results were as follows: (1) The winter precipitation showed a significant upward trend on the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, while other seasonal trends were not significant. (2) The precipitation on the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain shows a zonal decreasing distribution from southeast to northwest. (3) The application of the EOF method revealed the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of the precipitation field. The cumulative variance contribution rate of the first two eigenvectors reached 51.5%, revealing two typical distribution fields, namely a ‘global pattern’ and a ‘north-south pattern’. The ‘global pattern’ is the decisive mode, indicating that precipitation on the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain is affected by large-scale weather systems. (4) The annual precipitation barycentres on the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain were located in Jining city and Taian city, Shandong Province, and the spatial distribution pattern was north-south. The annual precipitation barycentres tended to move southwest, but the trend was not obvious. The annual precipitation barycentre is expected to continue to shift to the north in 2020.

Study on the Time-lag Between Precipiation and Discharge in Liulin Spring Basin,Shanxi

Abstract:Liulin Spring,one of the largest karst springs in North China,is located in Dongsanchuan River Valley of Liulin,Shanxi.From 1984 to 2005,the average discharge of Liulin Spring was 3.29 m3s-1.The precipitation in the area is the main supplying source of the karst water.The relationship between the precipitation and the spring discharge is an important issue for the exploitation and conservation of the karst water.We analyzed the time-lag from the precipitation to the supply of the Liulin Springr.Based on the grey-system characteristics of the spring-basin's hydrogeologic conditions,a time-lag-existing grey incidence analysis model is put forward.By using the model,the time-lag between the precipitation and the discharge in Lishi,Zhongyang and Fangshan is analyzed,respectively.The result is that the time-lag between the precipitation of three regions and the discharge is different,which is 3 years,4 years and 6 years,respectively,in Lishi City,Zhongyang County and Fangshan County.

Abstract:Daily precipitation data during the period of 1960 to 2005 from 147 rain gauging stations over the Yangtze River Basin are analyzed to investigate precipitation variations based on precipitation indices and also consecutive rainfall regimes in both space and time. Results indicate decreasing annual/monthly mean precipitation. Distinct decreases in rainfall days are observed over most parts of the Yangtze River Basin, but precipitation intensity is increasing over most parts of the Yangtze River Basin, particularly the lower Yangtze River Basin. Besides, durations of precipitation regimes are shortening; however, the fractional contribution of short-lasting precipitation regimes to the total precipitation amount is increasing. In this sense, the precipitation processes in the Yangtze River Basin are dominated by precipitation regimes of shorter durations. These results indicate intensified hydrological cycle reflected by shortening precipitation regimes. This finding is different from that in Europe where the intensifying precipitation changes are reflected mainly by lengthening precipitation regimes, implying different regional responses of hydrological cycle to climate changes. The results of this study will be of considerable relevance in basin-scale water resources management, human mitigation of natural hazards, and in understanding regional hydrological responses to changing climate at regional scales.

SPATIO-TEMPORAL CHARACTERISTICS AND FUTURE TREND OF EXTREME PRECIPITATION IN THE YANGTZE RIVER BASIN DURING 1960 TO 2010

Abstract:In this paper,no-missing daily precipitation data during 1960-2010 from uniformly distributed stations in the Yangtze River Basin were used,and spatial and temporal evolution characteristics and future trends of extreme precipitation were investigated with the help of trend and mutation analysis,R/S analysis and hydrologic frequency analysis method.The main results are as follows:(1) The regional average of PAV,PINT,PQ95,PF95 and PX 1D-PX 10D has an upward trend,and the values of the middle and lower reaches are higher than those of the upper reaches,and the changes of the indices in the middle and lower reaches are higher than those of the upper reaches.(2) The spatial distribution of PAV and PF95 is similar,but it shows negative trend in the middle and positive trend on the both sides for PAV,while it shows positive trend in the middle and negative on the both sides for PF95;The spatial distribution of PINT and PQ95 trend is similar,showing upward trend in most parts of the basin,but downward trend in the northwest of the basin.On the other hand,with the increase of duration from PX1D to PX10D,the areas where extreme precipitation decreases have significantly expanded while the area where extreme precipitation increases have significantly narrowed.(3) The extreme precipitation in the Yangtze River basin will remain the current trend in the future,and a majority of the extreme precipitation indices will on the increase in the future which will lead to the increase of flood risk in the basin.(4) Hydrological frequency analysis of extreme precipitation PX1D in Suining Station and PX10D in Anhua Station showed that design precipitation calculated based on the whole data is not sate.The difference will be larger with the increase of return periods,so new methods to estimate design precipitation should be investigated.
Analysis of Characteristics and Influencing Factors of Runoff Variations in Xitiaoxi Basin

Abstract:Using upstream of Hengtangcun station in Xitiaoxi Basin as a study target,the characteristics,trend and influencing factors of annual runoff variation from 1972 to 2009 was analyzed with various numerical analysis methods,cumulative average deviation method and Mann-Kendall method based on long-term hydrological and meteorological observation data.The results indicated that the distribution of annual runoff was uneven,and the non-uniformity of distribution had weakened since 1980's.Compared to annual precipitation,annual runoff showed a bigger fluctuation,and the basin had been in a state of low flow or dried up since 2000.There was a significant decline in the annual runoff,while the decline trend in precipitation was not significant,and the correlation between precipitation and runoff was decreasing year after year.Precipitation was not the only factor influencing the runoff,and human activities such as hydraulic engineering,soil and water conservation,and water resources utilization were important factors for the large decrease of annual runoff.

Abstract:Based on conventional observation data and regional automatic station precipitation data,1° × 1° NCEP reanalysis data and FY——2 e stationary meteorological satellite image data,a wide range the strong precipitation process,which appeared on May 12 ～ 13,2012 in Guangxi,causes are analyzed.The results show that high and low air configuration,low level,θse、ζ and the water vapor flux divergence of system has good corresponding relation with precipitation time and drop zone.The mesoscale convective system is the main mesoscale rainstorm system,β multiple mesoscale convective rain change and move through the same area to form a "train effect"and produce a wide range of heavy rain,heavy rain fall area is generated in the back direction of the cloud movement.The low vortex elimination time shorter,generation time,and moving direction is difficult to determine,so increased the difficulty of the prediction of heavy rain fall area and rainfall time.

Abstract:Moisture recycling by terrestrial evaporation and transpiration has recently been confirmed as an important source of precipitation, but little is known of this contribution in inland river basins of China. This study determines the fractions contributed by terrestrial evaporation and transpiration to precipitation in the Shiyang river basin, located in Gansu province of northwestern China. The basin has an area of 4.16×104km2 and mean annual precipitation of 300mm/yr. Hundreds of samples of precipitation, surface water, plant stem water and soil water were collected and analyzed for their isotopic compositions. The Craig-Gordon model and a three-end-member mixing model were used to partition precipitation into water sourced from evaporation, transpiration and advection. On average, evaporation, transpiration and advection were responsible for 9%, 14% and 77%, respectively, of precipitation, and the contribution from terrestrial evaporation and transpiration also increased with elavation; they also varied with season, being highest in August. The significant contribution from transpiration highlights the importance of vegetation conservation in this ecologically fragile basin.
Field-Based Analysis of Runoff Generation Processes in Humid Lowlands of the Taihu Basin, China

Abstract:In the flat lowland agricultural areas of subtropical climate zones, the runoff process has a great influence on the regional water quantity and quality. In this study, field data about rainfall, evapotranspiration, soil moisture, groundwater table, and surface water dynamics were collected in two different experimental sites in the Taihu Basin, China. Results showed that densely distributed ditches contributed to shallow groundwater depths and persistent near-saturation soil. A correlation analysis was conducted to improve the understandings of runoff generation in humid lowland areas of the Taihu Basin. It was found that a Dunne overland flow was the dominant mechanism responsible for the rapid runoff generation. The total rainfall and runoff expressed a good linear relationship with an R2 of 0.95 in the Hongqiwei test site. The initial groundwater depth was considered as the indicator of the antecedent soil moisture estimation for the close relationship. The depression storage was suggested in a range from 4.72 to 8.03 mm for an estimation based on the water balance analysis for each rainfall event, which proves that the depression storage should not be neglected when calculating the runoff generation process in humid lowlands.
