Abstract:In this paper, an approach is presented to detect faint signals with strong noises in sensors by stochastic resonance (SR). We adopt the power spectrum as the evaluation tool of SR, which can be obtained by the fast Fourier transform (FFT). Furthermore, we introduce the adaptive filtering scheme to realize signal processing automatically. The key of the scheme is how to adjust the barrier height to satisfy the optimal condition of SR in the presence of any input. For the given input signal, we present an operable procedure to execute the adjustment scheme. An example utilizing one audio sensor to detect the fault information from the power supply is given. Simulation results show that the modified stochastic resonance scheme can effectively detect fault signal with strong noise.

Abstract:Noise in dynamical systems is usually considered a nuisance. But in certain nonlinear systems, the presence of noise can in fact enhance the detection of weak signal. This phenomenon, called stochastic resonance (SR), may find useful application in physical, technological and biomedical fields. A novel approach to detecting weak periodic signal using stochastic resonance theory is presented. This method is analyzed and validated by simulated signal. The result shows that this method is simple, robust and reliable. The weak sinusoid signal of lower signal to noise ratio can be reliably extracted from loud noise. The detection approach of weak signal based on SR indicates a promising prospect for mechanical fault diagnosis.

Abstract:The rule between noise intensity and signal amplitude is analyzed and summarized, which makes the output signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) reach a maximum when the input signal has a low frequency in the bistabale system. Based on the rule, an optimal matching stochastic resonance (SR) system is designed which can detect the weak signal with any frequency through a kind of variable transformation, and the, method is analyzed by simulated data. The result shows that the method is simple and feasible. The detection approach indicates a promising prospect for mechanical fault diagnosis.

Abstract:Noise can be used by the nonlinear stochastic resonance system to enhance the ability of weak signal detection, which creates a new method of weak signal detection under heavy background noise. A hardware circuit system, designed based on the basic principle of stochastic resonance, is used to detect single-frequency and multi-frequency weak signals. When the signal with noise that simulates actual engineering situation is introduced into the system, the spectrum of samples of the output signal shows that single-frequency and multi-frequency weak signals under heavy background noise can be detected by the technology based on stochastic resonance effectively. The application field of weak signal detection technology based on stochastic resonance is entended by the effective detection of mutil-frequency weak signal, and the degradation of signal recognition by low frequency noise is eliminated by digital filtering effectively. The weak signal detection technology based on stochastic resonance has potential applications in the information recognition and information processing.

Abstract:Based on the theory of stochastic resonance (SR), a simple and effective algorithm for the detection of weak signal was proposed. It can greatly enhance the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the output signal by adjusting the amplitude of input signal. With the cooperative of the internal noise, the weak signal detection can be realized. By using the method in the detection of simulated and experimental signals, the results had shown that the method was reasonable.

Abstract:To catch symptoms of machine failure as early as possible, one of the most important strategies is to apply more progressive techniques during signal processing. This paper presents a method based on stochastic resonance (SR) to detect weak fault signal. First, a discrete model of a bistable system that can demonstrate SR is researched, and the stability condition for controlling the selection of model parameters of the discrete model and guarantee the solving convergence are established. Then, the frequency range of the weak signals that the SR model can detect is extended through a type of normalized scale transformation. Finally, the method is applied to extract the weak characteristic component from heavy noise to indicate the little crack fault in a bearing outer circle.

Abstract:Aiming at the issue of the traditional stochastic resonance only applicable to deal with low-frequency signals, a high-frequency weak signal detection method based on stochastic resonance is proposed. By analyzing the relationship among the traditional stochastic resonance model parameters, the input signal amplitude, the noisy signal and the signal to noise ratio of output, an additional gain is added to the original model which makes the sampling time multiplied reduced in the stochastic resonance system, in order to achieve the mapping from high-frequency signal to low-frequency signal. Studies have shown that the improved stochastic resonance model has accurately detected the high-frequency input signal.

Abstract:Noise can improve the signal-to-noise ratio of many nonlinear dynamical systems. This "stochastic resonance" (SR) effect occurs in a wide range of physical systems and biological systems, and also occurs in engineering systems in signal processing, communications, and control. Based on the theory of SR for detecting weak signals, a novel approach of detecting weak periodic signal using additional-signal-enhanced SR(ASESR) is presented. Abstract:Stochastic resonance is a new type of weak signal detection method. Compared with traditional noise suppression technology, stochastic resonance uses noise to enhance weak signal information, and there is a mechanism for the transfer of noise energy to signal energy. The purpose of this paper is to study the theory and application of weak signal detection based on stochastic resonance mechanism. This paper studies the stochastic resonance characteristics of the bistable circuit and conducts an experimental simulation of its circuit in the Multisim simulation environment. It is verified that the bistable circuit can achieve the stochastic resonance function very well, and it provides strong support for the actual production of the bistable circuit. This paper studies the stochastic resonance phenomenon of FHN neuron model and bistable model, analyzes the response of periodic signals and nonperiodic signals, verifies the effect of noise on stochastic resonance, and lays the foundation for subsequent experiments. It proposes to feedback the link and introduces a two-layer FHN neural network model to improve the weak signal detection performance under a variable noise background. The paper also proposes a multifault detection method based on the total empirical mode decomposition of sensitive intrinsic mode components with variable scale adaptive stochastic resonance. Using the weighted kurtosis index as the measurement index of the system output can not only maintain the similarity between the system output signal and the original signal but also be sensitive to impact characteristics, overcoming the missed or false detection of the traditional kurtosis index. Experimental research shows that this method has better noise suppression ability and a clear reproduction effect on details. Especially for images contaminated by strong noise (D = 500), compared with traditional restoration methods, it has better performance in subjective visual effects and signal-to-noise ratio evaluation.

Abstract:In engineering signal processing, parameters of the signal are often submerged by noise. In paper, a method called stochastic resonance (SR) was used to improve the SNR of system. The zero-averaged stochastic noise with normal probability distribution function and adaptable bandwidth could be produced, in which the thermal noise from a resistor is operated as initial noise source and processed by a suitable circuit. Numerical simulation proves its effectiveness. The method could be used to detect useful weak signal of fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) submerged by noise. And then the dead-band of FOG could be restrained according to the stochastic resonance. Finally, theoretic analysis showed that this method might be applied in other weak signal detection systems based on stochastic resonance effect.

Abstract:An effective method for detection of weak analytical signals with strong noise background is proposed based on the theory of stochastic resonance (SR). Compared with the conventional SR-based algorithms, the proposed algorithm is simplified by changing only one parameter to realize the weak signal detection. Simulation studies revealed that the method performs well in detection of analytical signals in very high level of noise background and is suitable for detecting signals with the different noise level by changing the parameter. Applications of the method to experimental weak signals of X-ray diffraction and Raman spectrum are also investigated. It is found that reliable results can be obtained.

Abstract:The stochastic resonance analysis of single-frequency weak signals has limited engineering applications because adiabatic elimination stochastic resonance within small parameters can't detect weak signals in large parameters, and engineering signals usually have multi-frequency features. For this reason, a numerical method called step-changed stochastic resonance was proposed. By adjusting the calculating step, the stochastic resonance method can adapt to weak signal detection in both small and large parameters. Computer simulation results show that the features of multi-frequency weak signals overwhelmed in heavy noise can be detected by step-changed stochastic resonance in both spectrum and wavelet results. Additionally, step-changed stochastic resonance not only decreases the weak signal's distortion induced by heavy noise in wavelet analysis, but also improves the reliability of wavelet analysis in weak signal detection under low ratios of signal to noise.

Abstract:The high frequency Chirp signal in underwater acoustic communication usually submerged in various noise produced by ocean waves, ships, etc. In this paper, based on the principle of stochastic resonance for weak signal detection, the extraction and energy enhancement of high frequency weak signal are achieved by using bistable stochastic resonance system. The genetic algorithm is additionally used to adaptively select the system parameters. Finally, the principle is verified to be correct and feasible with spectrum chart and FRFT through simulation and experiments which provides a new analysis method and design guidance for the enhancement and detection of underwater acoustic weak signal.

Abstract:To solve the problem that the weak fault signal is difficult to extract under strong background noise, an asymmetric second-order stochastic resonance method is proposed. By adjusting the damping factor and the asymmetry, weak signals, noise, and potential wells are matched to each other to achieve the best stochastic resonance state so that weak fault characteristics can be effectively extracted in strong background noise. Under adiabatic approximation, the effects of damping coefficient, noise intensity, and asymmetry on the output signal-to-noise ratio are discussed based on the two-state model theory. Under the same parameters, the output signal-to-noise ratio of the asymmetric second-order stochastic resonance system is better than that of the underdamped second-order stochastic resonance system. The bearing fault and field engineering experimental results are provided to justify the comparative advantage of the proposed method over the underdamped second-order stochastic resonance method.

Abstract:Aiming at the actual case that there are several signals synchronously with different frequency in the detected signal frequently,the study of detecting multi frequency weak signal by the stochastic resonance is performed in this paper,so as to recognize and extract weak information in the information processing using weak signal detection technology based on stochastic resonance.The results of numerical calculation show that,when the multi frequency weak signal submerged in heavy noise background pass through the nonlinear bistable system,the weak signals with different frequency that is less than 0.5 Hz and in same magnitude can be extracted by stochastic resonance under properly adjust the system parameters,and the signal to noise ratio of output signal is improved clearly and increased more than 30 dB.This method has the potential application in the information recognition and information processing.

Abstract:This paper researches the application of stochastic resonance theory in weak underwater acoustic signal detection, and derives the conditions to maximum switching rate of bistable system. Considering the character of underwater acoustic signals, this paper studies the bistable system parameter adjustment and signal frequency compression technology. Through digital signal processing experiments, it contrasts the stochastic resonance system and traditional digital filter, proves the superiority of stochastic resonance theory, which may be widely used in weak underwater acoustic signal detection.

Abstract:Traditional overdamped stochastic resonance (SR) methods are difficult to match with complicated and variable input signals due to single stable-state types. Moreover, their performance depends on the parameter selection of highpass filters. To further explore the potential of SR, this paper studies the behavior of underdamped SR in a multistable nonlinear system by analyzing its output frequency responses, and presents a promising underdamped multistable SR method for weak signal detection and further incipient fault diagnosis of machinery. Numerical analyses indicate that the proposed method is supposed to possess two advantages: 1) the stable-state diversity of the multistable potential makes it easily match with input signals and 2) underdamped multistable SR is equivalent to a bandpass filter as the rescaling ratio varies, which is able to suppress the interference from multiscale noise. Simulated and experimental data of rolling element bearings demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. For comparison, ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) method and traditional overdamped bistable SR method are also employed to process the data. The comparison results show that the proposed method can effectively detect incipient fault characteristics and perform better than traditional SR and EEMD methods.
