Abstract:The problem of probability transformation is crucial for decision-making in Dempster-Shafer Theory of evidence. In this paper, a compromise method has been proposed for transforming basic probability assignment to probability function. The novel transformation method can acquire better balance between easy decision-making and high risk. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the rationality and efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract:In three-way decision, how to reflect the risk attitude in determining decision rules is an important issue. In the classical three-way decision model, loss functions are used to measure risks and determine the minimum-cost decision rules. On this basis, the utility function has been used as a new risk measurement to determine the maximum-utility decision rules. However, some studies show that utility theory may produce some paradoxes and cannot reflect the real risk attitude. To address this problem, we propose a prospect theory-based three-way decision model. In this scenario, we use prospect theory to describe decision-makers’ risk attitudes and utilize the value function as a new risk measurement. The decision rules are induced based on the principle of prospect value maximization. Then, we analyze and prove the existence and uniqueness of thresholds. Two specific analytic solutions of thresholds are calculated and the simplified decision rules are derived. A case study is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of our model and make comparisons with other related models. Finally, the results of the experimental analysis are reported to validate the feasibility and performance of our proposed model.
Intuitionistic Linguistic Stochastic Multi-criteria Decision-making Method based on Prospect Theory

Abstract:Based on Prospect theory, this paper studies the stochastic multi-criteria decision-making problem where the evaluation values take the forms of intuitionistic linguistic numbers and the information of criteria weights is completely unknown. To consider the different risk attitudes of decision maker, the intuitionistic linguistic prospect value and relative prospect closeness degree is defined and an intuitionistic linguistic risky decision-making approach is developed. First, we determine the positive and negative intuitionistic ling-uistic alternative. Second, the intuitionistic linguistic prospect decision-making matrix is constructed by calculating the intuitionistic linguistic prospect value of each alternative, which is based on the positive and negative alternatives as the reference point. Third, to cal-culate the criteria weights, we establish a new optimization weighting model via the goal of maximizing the prospect values and correspon-dingly, we can order the alternatives by comparing the relative prospect closeness degree. The illustrated example shows that the deve-loped approach characterizes the different risk attitudes of decision maker and evaluates the alternatives according to the subjective refer-ence point of decision maker, which brings out higher practical result. In addition, it provides an important reference for the decision makers to get a more scientifically and efficiently decision result under the risk environment.

Abstract:This paper studies a risk-sensitive decision-making problem under uncertainty. It considers a decision-making process that unfolds over a fixed number of stages, in which a decision-maker chooses among multiple alternatives, some of which are deterministic and others are stochastic. The decision-maker's cumulative value is updated at each stage, reflecting the outcomes of the chosen alternatives. After formulating this as a stochastic control problem, we delineate the necessary optimality conditions for it. Two illustrative examples from optimal betting and inventory management are provided to support our theory.

Abstract:We analyze the application of regular increasing monotonic(RIM) quantifiers for parametric weighted ordered weighted average (WOWA) operator with piecewise linear function in decision problems. It can be used to represent various attitudes of the decision makers in forms of risk pessimistic, risk neutral and risk optimistic, respectively. Then, some properties of parametric WOWA operator with piecewise linear function are provided. Expected utility theory becomes a special case of parametric WOWA operator with risk neutral attitude. Different attitudes of the decision makers can be implemented by changing the values of parameter in parametric WOWA operators according to application context. Finally, the paper illustrates our theoretical results with an example of introducing and pricing new product.

Abstract:In three-way decision, the description on the risk attitude of decision-makers is a focus topic. In this paper, we propose a novel three-way decision model based on cumulative prospect theory. First, with the aid of a reference point, the value functions are utilized to describe different risk appetites of decision-makers towards gains and losses. Second, the weight functions incorporate the nonlinear transformation of the conditional probability. The cumulative decision weights are decided by taking into account the increasing order of value functions. Then, with value functions and weight functions, the new decision rules of the proposed model are deduced based on the principle of maximizing the cumulative prospect value rather than minimizing the cost. Further, we analyze and prove the existence and uniqueness of thresholds of our model. Then, the decision rules are simplified based on the conditional probability and numerical solutions of thresholds, and the algorithm for deriving three-way decision rules is constructed. Finally, an illustrative example and a series of relevant comparisons are presented to illustrate and validate the effectiveness and feasibility of our model.

Abstract:Recently, the three-way decision models based on prospect theory have attracted much attention, because they can well consider the risk attitude of decision makers when decisions involve gains and losses. However, in terms of reference point selection for prospect theory, these models adopt a unified strategy for all alternatives without considering the characteristics of the alternatives themselves. To solve this problem, a reference point selection method based on fuzzy information granules is proposed in this article. Furthermore, a prospect theory-based generalized intuitionistic fuzzy three-way decision model is established. Specifically, first, a reference point selection method based on fuzzy information granules is constructed for the evaluation values of alternatives. Second, based on the value function of prospect theory, an intuitionistic fuzzy scoring function is proposed. Meanwhile, based on the difference between the two intuitionistic fuzzy scoring values, a PROMETHEE-based trisecting method is designed. In addition, utilizing the priority relationship existing in three divisions, a generalized ranking strategy using recursive trisecting is established for obtaining the ranking result of alternatives. Finally, based on the priority relationship of the classification attribute, an effectiveness index is proposed to evaluate the effectiveness of the decision-making method in decision-making cases. On this basis, the proposed model is used to process different decision-making cases, verifying its effectiveness, superiority, and feasibility.

Abstract:Rough set theory has witnessed great success in data mining and knowledge discovery, which provides a good support for decision making on a certain data. However, a practical decision problem always shows diversity under the same circumstance according to different personality of the decision makers. A simplex decision model can not provide a full description on such diverse decisions. In this article, a review of Pawlak rough set models and probabilistic rough set models is presented, and a three-way view decision model based on decision-theoretic rough set model is proposed, in which optimistic decision, pessimistic decision, and equable decision are provided according to the cost of misclassification. The thresholds of probabilistic inclusion are calculated based on minimization of risk cost under respective decision bias. The study not only presents a new theoretic decision model considering the different personality of the decision makers, but also provides a practical explanation and an illustrative example on diverse risk bias decision.

Abstract:This study introduces a nonparametric method to elicit decision weights under prospect theory. These weights carry the attitudes and subjective beliefs of individuals toward risks and uncertainties. Our variable precision method adopts a dynamic mechanism that can elicit the measuring points of individual probability weighting flexibly. These points are used to exhibit violations of expected utility theory, which measures individual risk attitudes and captures subjective beliefs on probabilities. Our method is flexible, tractable, and cognitively less demanding compared with other nonparametric elicitations in the literature. Experimental studies are conducted on a sample of Hong Kong (China) residents to verify our method. Our experimental results yield a prevailing inverse-S shape. We conduct the analyses and uncover their implications by comparing them with the results of residents of Beijing, Shanghai, Paris, and Amsterdam.

Abstract:Human decision making under risk and uncertainty may depend on individual involvement in the outcome-generating process. Expected utility theory is silent on this issue. Prospect theory in its current form offers little, if any, prediction of how or why involvement in a process should matter, although it may offer ex post interpretations of empirical findings. Well-known findings in psychology demonstrate that when subjects exercise more involvement or choice in lottery procedures, they value their lottery tickets more highly. This often is interpreted as an “illusion of control,” meaning that when subjects are more involved in a lottery, they may believe they are more likely to win, perhaps because they perceive that they have more control over the outcome. Our experimental design eliminates several possible alternative explanations for the results of previous studies in an experiment that varies the degree and type of involvement in lottery procedures. We find that in treatments with more involvement subjects on average place less rather than more value on their lottery tickets. One possible explanation for this is that involvement interacts with loss aversion by causing subjects to weigh losses more heavily than they would otherwise. One implication of our study is that involvement, either independently or in interaction with myopic loss aversion, may help explain the extreme risk aversion of bond investors.

Abstract:This study focuses on revealing the relationship between uncertainty and investment probability through real option model involving investment critical trigger and project earning. Using of Matlab software on the experimental results, the author expounded that how project earning volatility influences investment probability and the notion is not always correct,that as increasing uncertainty should have an inhibiting effect on investment. The correct notion is that in certain situation, increasing uncertainty actually increases the investment probability and so, should have positive impact on investment.

Abstract:As we know, there is a controversy about the decision making under risk between economists and psychologists. We discuss to build a unified theory of risky choice, which would explain both of compensatory and non-compensatory theories. For risky choice, according to cognition ability, we argue that people could not build a continuous and accurate subjective probability world, but several order concepts, such as small, middle and large probability. People make decisions based on information, experience, imagination and other things. All of these things are so huge that people have to prepare some strategies. That is, people have different strategies when facing to different situations. The distributions of these things have different decision structures. More precisely, decision making is a process of simplifying the decision structure. However, the process of decision structure simplifying is not stuck in a rut, but through different path when facing problems repeatedly. It is why preference reversal always happens when making decisions. The most efficient way to simplify the decision structure is calculating expected value or making decisions based on one or two dimensions. We also argue that the deliberation time at least has four parts, which are consist of substitution time, first order time, second order time and calculation time. Abstract:The expressway system expanses rapidly in China recent years, and needs huge amount of investment to support the development of the system. During the decision-making, the investors require accurate quantitative analysis with proper model. The problem of expressway investment is embedded with numerous uncertainties due to changing in social, economic and environmental contexts. We can solve this problem with a real option approach which is popular in wide range of areas. This paper extends traditional Cost-Benefit Analysis to the uncertain process, and presents the Black-Scholes formula for evaluating of the uncertainty. A solution algorithm which transforms the Black-Scholes equation into constant coefficient diffusion equation is developed. The extended Cost-Benefit Analysis under uncertainty achieves investment decision-making optimality that is generally not well presented in traditional approaches for expressway planning.

Abstract:In decision-making analysis, the description on decision makers' risk attitude under uncertainty is a focus topic. This paper presents a novel decision analysis framework that considers uncertainty and risk using the cumulative prospect theory. The proposed approach describes uncertain preference information using interval-valued fuzzy sets, maintaining this representation without converting intervals into crisp numbers throughout the entire process. To quantify the distance between interval-valued fuzzy sets, we introduce a comprehensive interval-valued distance model that accounts for multiple situations determined based on the relative positions between intervals. Afterwards, some related theorems about the proposed interval-valued distance model are explored mathematically. Then, with the aid of different reference points and interval-valued distance model, the overall interval-valued prospect value of each alternative is investigated. Finally, an Enhanced Minimax Regret-based (EMR) approach is developed to compare and rank the obtained overall interval-valued prospect values. An illustrative example, accompanied by detailed discussions, is provided to demonstrate the flexibility and superiority of the proposed decision analysis framework.

Abstract:Risk decision-making is that individuals make choices based on the definite cognition for the probabilities of all options. It is important for individuals to evaluate the risk in life to survive in the unpredictable environments. Numerous studies have found that people tend to take risk in daily life. They favor greater income but ignore the potential risk of lower probability. We still do not know whether it is based on genetics. Here we developed a risk decision-making paradigm to require rats to make choice between small unambiguous reward and large reward with risk of low probability. We found that most rats preferred risk options under the equal reward expectation of two options (reward expectation = amount Ã— probability), and their choice could be modified over reward expectation. Our work provides new insights to further understand why people prefer to risk-taking behaviors.

Abstract:In view of the uncertainty multiattribute decision-making problem with attribute values and weights both being interval number, a new solution based on regret theory and extension-dependent degree is proposed. It can define pass value of each attribute, which means decision-maker’s acceptance for the scheme under the pass value will decline quickly. Then according to traditional regret theory, the method defines an extension-dependent function based on pass value which can improve the flexibility of the traditional utility function and the ability to describe the risk aversion actions from decision-makers. Then the extension-dependent function for interval number is built, and the perceived utility value of each scheme is obtained based on the interval’s optimal value. The method can also reflect the decision-maker’s reference to high or low evaluation score by setting attitude coefficients. At last, an example is presented to examine the feasibility, effectiveness, and stability of our method.

Abstract:The concept of subjective probability is investigated in Levin's level of aspiration, Tolman's principles of performance, Rotter's fundamental equation in social learning theory, Edward's subjectively expressed utility (SEU) model in decision theory, and Atkinson's risk-taking model. Though from different areas in psychology, the similarity of these concepts is demonstrated. One discrepancy between the concepts, however, is open to experimental investigation: are valences, reinforcement values, and utilities independent of subjective probability or not? Experiments to test this are outlined. (36 ref.)

Abstract:To depict the influence of decision makers' risk psychology on the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making process, this paper proposes a new method based on prospect theory. Considering the risk attitude of the decision maker, we transform interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers into real numbers via a prospect value function and consequently derive the prospect decision matrices. Regarding the criteria weights that are incompletely known or completely unknown, a new nonlinear optimization model is developed to determine the criteria weights by considering the subjective and objective factors. Furthermore, we calculate the prospect projection of each alternative for the ideal solution and rank all the alternatives according to the prospect projection values. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the application of the developed approach.

Abstract:An improved interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy multi-attribute group decision-making method considering the risk preference of decision-makers is proposed to solve the multi-attribute group decision-making problem with interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers and the condition that the attribute weight information is completely unknown. Firstly, the decision-maker weight of each attribute is determined by combining similarity and proximity. In order to consider the influence of the decision-maker's risk preference on the decision result and avoid the asymptotic behavior of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy matrix, the risk aversion coefficient of the decision-maker is introduced and combined with the determined decision-maker's weight aggregation to form a group decision matrix. Then, the information of group decision matrix is mined, and the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy entropy is used to determine the attribute weight and relative weight. Based on the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy distance measure formula and the TODIM method, the overall superiority of each scheme relative to other schemes is obtained by calculating the superiority between schemes, and the optimal scheme is determined by comparing and sequencing. Finally, the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified by an example of mechanical assembly supplier selection decision.

Abstract:This paper studies the minimizing risk problems in Markov decision processes with countable state space and reward set. The objective is to find a policy which minimizes the probability (risk) that the total discounted rewards do not exceed a specified value (target). In this sort of model, the decision made by the decision maker depends not only on system's states, but also on his target values. By introducing the decision-maker's state, we formulate a framework for minimizing risk models. The policies discussed depend on target values and the rewards may be arbitrary real numbers. For the finite horizon model, the main results obtained are: (i) The optimal value functions are distribution functions of the target, (ii) there exists an optimal deterministic Markov policy, and (iii) a policy is optimal if and only if at each realizable state it always takes optimal action. In addition, we obtain a sufficient condition and a necessary condition for the existence of finite horizon optimal policy independent of targets and we give an algorithm computing finite horizon optimal policies and optimal value functions. For an infinite horizon model, we establish the optimality equation and we obtain the structure property of optimal policy. We prove that the optimal value function is a distribution function of target and we present a new approximation formula which is the generalization of the nonnegative rewards cases. An example which illustrates the mistakes of previous literature shows that the existence of optimal policy has not been proved really. In this paper, we give an existence condition, which is a sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of an infinite horizon optimal policy independent of targets, and we point out that whether there exists an optimal policy remains an open problem in the general case.
