Abstract:In order to overcome the shortcomings of motion target range - velocity coupling in the LFMCW (Linear Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) radar mechanism, based on the relevant theoretical research results of LFMCW radar signal processing method, combined with the actual needs of the system, a signal processing method based on multi cycle LFMCW radar “beat - Fourier spectral analysis - MID” structure is put forward, and the distance - velocity decoupling is realized. It is done from the system scheme design, acquisition circuit analysis, and algorithm theory research to the final algorithm DSP realization process. The experimental results show that this method can achieve target detection and parameter estimation, and it can improve the ranging and speed measurement accuracy, and realize the distance - velocity decoupling of LFMCW radar. As a result, it is concluded that the method proposed in this study is simple and feasible, and the measurement accuracy is high, so it can greatly improve the efficiency of radar signal processing.

Abstract:In the waveform design, the distance measurement and resolution are a pair of irreconcilable contradictions. Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) can alleviate this contradiction. LFM is widely used in radar and sonar, however, its Doppler tolerance is not ideal. Hyperbolic Frequency Modulation (HFM) signal has a particularly strong tolerance towards Doppler frequency shift. When the unidirectionally modulated HFM signal is in distance measurement, the Doppler delay of the matched filtering output cannot be eliminated, and there is a ranging error. After matched filtering of the positive and negative frequency modulation (HFM+LFM) echo signal based on the same frequency band, the Doppler-induced delay is the same but opposite in direction, and the delay is closely related to the frequency, bandwidth, and pulse width of the transmitted signal. By using the inverse time delay difference of the positive and negative frequency modulation, the ranging error in the ranging of unidirectionally modulated LFM signal can be eliminated. In this paper, a Joint Linear frequency modulation and Hyperbolic frequency modulation approach for Speed measurement (JLHS) is proposed, which employs the same frequency band of positive and negative frequency modulation signals for speed measurement and ranging. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed approach can better estimate the speed and distance of moving targets, and it has reference value for engineering application.

Abstract:Aiming at solving the distance and velocity decouple problem for moving target in linear FMCW (LFMCW) radar signal processing, a multiple repetition frequency waveform is adopted and a Doppler frequency cluster (DFS) algorithm is proposed, which is capable of recovering true velocity from the coupled velocity estimation directly. Aiming at solving resolution of multiple targets, a match algorithm based on mean square error is also proposed. The combination of the above two methods realizes distance and velocity decoupling for multiple moving targets. The result of simulation verified the effectiveness of the methods, the velocity estimate performance of DFS algorithm improve 2.5 dB contrast to Chinese remainder theorem.

Abstract:When the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar is illuminated by electromagnetic interference, the interference signal is generated through the antenna coupling. The combination of the interference signal and the echo signal might result in errors in the ranging function. In this article, the effect analysis of the ranging function of FMCW radar excited by electromagnetic interference is carried out. The analysis consists of three parts. Firstly, the simulation is able to calculate the interference signal that enters the FMCW radar. Secondly, the analysis is able to derive the time-frequency plot of the interference signal after mixing, based on the principle of ranging. And it can be analyzed that the interference signal would be filtered by the low pass filter after mixing and would not affect the ranging function. Thirdly, the effect test can simulate the real situation of the radar excited by electromagnetic interference. The test results verify the effect analysis.

Abstract:The linear frequency-modulated continuous-wave (LFMCW) millimeter-wave radar has been widely used in automotive industry applications. The motivation of this paper is to propose a segmented range detection (SRD) method on the foundation of plentiful mature research on the target detection of LFMCW radar. According to the SRD method, the detection range (about 150m in the scene of vehicular collision warning) is divided into several segments and triangular modulation waveform which consists of several different frequencies is designed. Compared with typical digital signal processing method, the SRD method can availably decrease the bandwidth of the IF signal, therefore the in-band noise will be significantly reduced and the signal to noise ratio (SNR) improved. Additionally, different range resolutions can be achieved and average range resolution improved. The SRD method is also validated through multiple outdoor experiments with the use of 60 GHz LFMCW millimeter-wave radar system designed by our research group. The efficiency of the SRD method is demonstrated in terms of ranging accuracy and range resolution after the analysis of experiment results.

Abstract:Airborne microwave imaging Radar for remote sensing plays an important role in earth observation, especially in the application to cities. Linear frequency modulation continuous wave (LFMCW) radar with the feature of high reliability and compactness is suitable for multiple applications in airborne radar. The advantages and application environment of LFMCW SAR is analyzed in this paper, and the methods of signal design and signal processing in LFMCW SAR are studied. A point target simulation result is given that shows LFMCW SAR has good space resolution.

Abstract:FMCW radar with deramping technique has many advantages comparing to traditional pulse radar. But the expressing of signal error becomes more complicated. The distortions on amplitude and phase are unavoidable for wide bandwidth and wide pulse signal, which have a serious impact on the imaging quality. Aiming at the problem of signal error correction, the echo signal model of FMCW radar with amplitude-phase error was established in this paper. The analysis of error estimation and correction were investigated in detail especially for non-linear phase error. And a practical solution was presented to reduce the effects from the distortions. The processing and results were proved through theoretical derivation and simulation analysis validation. And this method has significantly improved the range resolution and calibrated the position deviation. Additionally, this algorithm has a strong practicability, due to considering both the indicator and real-time imaging processing algorithm costs.
SCH: A Speed Measurement Method of Combined Hyperbolic Frequency Modulation Signals

Abstract:Hyperbolic Frequency Modulation (HFM) signal has certain tolerance to Doppler shift. However, during ranging, the unidirectional modulated HFM signal cannot eliminate the Doppler delay at the output of the matched filtering, and thus there is a ranging error. After the combined positive and negative HFM echo signals are matched and filtered, the Doppler-induced delay is closely related and proportional to the frequency, bandwidth and pulse width of the transmitted signals. By using the combined signals, the ranging error in the ranging of single modulated HFM signal can be eliminated. In this paper, a Speed measurement method of Combined HFM signals (SCH) is proposed, which employs positive and negative frequency modulation signals for speed measurement and ranging. Moreover, the SCH method relaxes the requirements of bandwidth and pulse width, which makes it more suitable for general conditions. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed approach can better estimate the speed and distance of moving targets, and it has reference value for engineering application.

Performance Analysis of Acceleration Resolution for the LFMCW Radar

Abstract:Aiming at the influence of high acceleration modulation of the linear FMCW (LFMCW) radar echo signal in the short range and high resolution applications on missiles, satellites, and planes, we derive the expression of acceleration resolution for the LFMCW signal. It is concluded that the acceleration resolution is inversely proportional to the square of the effective time width. We also analyze the influence on the Doppler resolution and time delay caused by the unknown acceleration. It is concluded that the increase of time width does not necessarily enhance the Doppler resolution, because of the existence of acceleration, delay resolution decreases with the increase of unknown acceleration. Computer simulations justified these conclusions.

Abstract:A 77GHz LFMCW (Linear Frequency Modulated Continuous Waveform) radar system for automobile reversing application is presented. To improve the radar accuracy of distance and speed, several algorithm techniques such as variable-cycle triangle wave, combined amplitude and phase algorithm are introduced. And the radar can work under the influence of interference because of the clutter map technique. The radar system has been verified by Matlab.

Abstract:The ranging scope of LFMCW signal is limited by the setting of maximum echo delay.A new way to use double beat- frequency-FT is proposed.In the method,the echo is mixed with two kinds of transmitted signal,then the mixed signals are Fourier trans- formed to frequency domain respectively.By comparing the location and amplitude of the peaks in the power spectrum,the ranging scope is extended to the whole FM duration.One point to emphasize is that this method bears some degradation in the output SNR.Theory anal- ysis and simulations testify the validation of the method.

Abstract:A signal processing method is presented in order to solve the problem of measurement error caused by wide terrain fluctuation within antenna's wide beam and the range-velocity coupling problem caused by platform's high velocity. A signal processing method and height detecting algorithm is proposed in this paper to implement height measurement. The beat spectrum is processed by intercepting and weighing to solve the measurement error problem mentioned above, and the coupling problem is solved by pairing between positive and negative sweeping frequency. Certain measurement accuracy is achieved by the method. The effectiveness of the method is validated through simulation results.

Abstract:Linear frequency modulated interrupted continuous wave (LFMICW) technique is developed to solve the isolation of LFMCW radar. However, there is a range aliasing problem where apply the LFMICW radar for high-resolution and long-range situation. The range aliasing will bring false targets into the range profile, which makes it difficult to detect the target. In this paper, a method of staggered interrupted frequency square wave to eliminate range aliasing is adopted and applied to the MTD-frequency domain pairing velocity measurement and ranging method for the LFMICW radar. The effectiveness of the method is verified by simulation.

Abstract:This paper presents a new way for integration and detection of weak signals with large Doppler frequency in linear frequency-modulated continuous wave (LFMCW) radar systems. With secondary mixing of up-sweep beat signal and down-sweep beat signal, the range-Doppler coupling can be resolved effectively, and a new signal with only Doppler frequency information is brought out. By two-dimensional FFT (fast Fourier transform), multi-cycle weak signals can be integrated to get high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for target detection and parameters estimation. Using peak detection, target velocity is estimated first. Motion compensation then follows according to the velocity estimated, and target range can be found out also through two-dimensional FFT. And performance analysis is carried out finally. The efficiency of the method is proved by the simulation results

Abstract:High Frequency Surface Wave Radar (HFSWR) utilizes electromagnetic wave diffracting along the earth to detect targets over the horizon. However, the increase of target distance decreases the received echo energy, and this degrades the detection capability. A joint domain matrix Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) detector is proposed to improve the detection performance. It employs the multi-dimensional information of signal in azimuth, Doppler velocity and range domain to detect target, and Log-Determinant Divergence (LDD) and Symmetrized Log-Determinant Divergence (SLDD) are used to replace the Riemannian Distance (RD) as the measure of distance. Finally, the experiment results show that the detector presented by the paper can improve the detection performance effectively.

Abstract:A combination method based on secondary mixing and MTD(Moving Target Detection)processing is proposed for high-speed targets detection in linear frequency-modulated continuous wave(LFMCW)radar.According to the symmetry characteristics of up-sweep and down-sweep beat signals,secondary mixing is adopted to remove the central frequency offset from multi-cycles,and range-Doppler coupling is resolved at the same time.MTD processing is used to realize multi-cycle integration and get the target velocity. Motion compensation based on the velocity estimated then follows to bring out the target range information.Performance analysis is given in detail.Compared to traditional MTD processing,the proposed method isn't sensitive to target Doppler with a given input SNR(Signal- to-Noise Ratio).So it is preferred in high-speed targets detection.Simulation results prove the efficiency of the method.

Abstract:On the basis of such principle as LFM range-Doppler coupling and pulse compress,a new method of radial velocity measurement using single pulse is presented.Pulses which are not frequency overlapped are composed temporally.And through frequency selection characteristics of pulse compress,different range information in condition of different range-Doppler coefficient is obtained.The radial velocity is then obtained through the equation group constructed using the range information.The method solves such problems as range-Doppler modification,data association and trajectory construction for the case of high coupling coefficient.The simulation result of missile defense radar verifies the efficiency.

Abstract:This study investigates the effects of antenna rotation on range, radial velocity, and azimuth estimation during coherent integration in linear frequency-modulated continuous wave (LFMCW) radars. When antenna scans during the coherent integration time, theoretical analysis indicates that the angle sensing with the traditional sum-difference amplitude-comparison (SDAC) monopulse method and the range, radial velocity estimation with interpolation method are different from that in staring mode. Simulation demonstrates that the estimation performance is heavily impaired by the antenna rotation. In this study, a generalised mathematical model of coherent integration for LFMCW radar is established. Furthermore, a high-precision estimation method, which consists of generalised SDAC monopulse method, radial velocity estimator with modified interpolation curves, and range estimator refined by Doppler frequency, is proposed. A complete signal-processing scheme is proposed for the accurate estimation of the target parameter in mechanical scanning LFMCW radar. A sub-optimal method is provided for practical implementation. Experimental and simulation results show that the proposed method achieves high accuracy and robustness.

Abstract:Triangular frequency modulation continuous wave,combined with frequency domain matching,is adopted to solve the problem of range-velocity decoupling in LFMCW radars.But the algorithm based on traditional FFT can cause range precision and velocity precision decreased,because of the inherent frequency space of FFT.FFT-CZT two-stage processing is adopted to improve the range precision and velocity precision of LFMCW radar moving target.The method is proved in different bandwidth LFMCW radar and can be applied widely.

Abstract:On the basic of the representation of the principle of Doppler imaging, an echo model of high-speed target illuminated by broadband linear frequency modulated (LFM) signal was established in this paper. For high-speed target, because of its nonlinear echo phase and time-varying Doppler frequency shift, the Doppler spectrum of the target acquired by the traditional Fourier method was ambiguous, and the same in the radar images of the target. Therefore, an adaptive Wigner-Ville time-frequency analysis method was presented in the paper, that is, the local fuzzy function could be obtained by applying the two-dimensional adding Window Fourier Transform to signal's Wigner-Ville distribution, which made the kernel function, not only be adaptive to time, but also to the frequency. Finally, the simulation results show that the method has a good time-frequency concentration, and effectively control the cross-term interference.
