Abstract:In this paper,a new conservative difference scheme is proposed for a class of nonlinear Schrodinger equations involving a quintic term,and its convergence and stability are proved.It is demostrated by numerical test results that the scheme is reliable in computing this class of equations.

Abstract:A conservative difference scheme is presented for two-dimensional nonlinear Schrodinger equation with wave operator. The discrete energy method and an useful technique are used to analyze the difference scheme. It is shown, both theoretically and numerically, that the difference solution is conservative, unconditionally stable and convergent with second order in maximum norm. Abstract:In this paper, a linearly implicit conservative difference scheme for the coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations with space fractional derivative is proposed. This scheme conserves the mass and energy in the discrete level and only needs to solve a linear system at each step. The existence and uniqueness of the difference solution are proved. The stability and convergence of the scheme are discussed, and it is shown to be convergent of order O (tau(2) + h(2)) in the discrete t(2) norm with the time step tau and mesh size h. When the fractional order is two, all those results are in accord with the difference scheme proposed for the classical non-fractional coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations. Abstract:In this paper, we propose a conservative linearized difference scheme for the nonlinear fractional Schrödinger equation. The scheme efficiently avoids the time consuming iteration procedure necessary for the nonlinear scheme and thus is time saving relatively. It is rigorously proved that the scheme is mass conservative and uniquely solvable. Then employing mathematical induction, we further show that the proposed scheme is convergent at the order of O(τ2 + h2) in the l2 norm with time step τ and mesh size h. Moreover, an extension to coupled nonlinear fractional Schrödinger systems is presented. Finally, numerical tests are carried out to corroborate the theoretical results and investigate the impact of the fractional order α on the collision of two solitons.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a finite difference scheme for the solution of an initial-boundary value problem of the Schrödinger–Boussinesq equation. The scheme is fully implicit and conserves two invariable quantities of the system. We investigate the existence of the solution for the scheme, give computational process for the numerical solution and prove convergence of iteration method by which a nonlinear algebra system for unknown Vn+1 is solved. On the basis of a priori estimates for a numerical solution, the uniqueness, convergence and stability for the difference solution is discussed. Numerical experiments verify the accuracy of our method.

Abstract:This paper introduces a conservative higher-order finite difference scheme for solving the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The Crank–Nicolson method is employed to discretize time derivatives and the sixth-order difference operator is used to discretize space derivatives, correspondingly, the resulting difference scheme has second-order accuracy in time and sixth-order accuracy in space. By utilizing the discrete energy method, the conservation of discrete mass and energy, the boundedness, existence and uniqueness of solution, unconditional stability and the convergence of the new scheme are proved. Then making use of Richardson extrapolation, the time accuracy is increased to the fourth order. Finally, the numerical experiments are conducted to validate the theoretical results presented in the paper.

Abstract:The present work is mainly devoted to studying the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with wave operator. We first derive two conserved quantities of the equation, and then develop a three-level linearly implicit difference scheme. This scheme is shown to be conserves the discrete version of conserved quantities. Using energy method, we prove that the difference scheme is unconditionally stable, and the difference solution converges to the exact one with second order accuracy in both the space and time dimensions. Numerical experiments are performed to support our theoretical analysis and demonstrate the accuracy, discrete conservation laws and effectiveness for long-time simulation.

Abstract:This paper studies finite difference schemes for solving the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (GNLS) equation iu t − u x x + q (| u | 2 ) u = f ( x , t ) u . A new linearlized Crank–Nicolson-type scheme is presented by applying an extrapolation technique to the real coefficient of the nonlinear term in the GNLS equation. Several schemes, including Crank–Nicolson-type schemes, Hopscotch-type schemes, split step Fourier scheme, and pseudospectral scheme, are adopted for solving three model problems of GNLS equation which arise from many physical problems. with q ( s )= s 2 , q ( s )=ln(1+ s ), and q ( s )=−4 s /(1+ s ), respectively. The numerical results demonstrate that the linearized Crank–Nicolson scheme is efficient and robust.

Abstract:In this paper, a new compact finite difference scheme is proposed for a periodic initial value problem of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with wave operator. This is an explicit scheme of four levels with a discrete conservation law. The unconditional stability and convergence in maximum norm with order O(h^4+τ ^2) are verified by the energy method. Those theoretical results are proved by a numerical experiment and it is also verified that this scheme is better than the previous scheme via comparison.

Abstract:In this paper, the Crank–Nicolson (CN) difference scheme for the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with the Riesz space fractional derivative is studied. The existence of this difference solution is proved by the Brouwer fixed point theorem. The stability and convergence of the CN scheme are discussed in the L2 norm. When the fractional order is two, all those results are in accord with the difference scheme developed for the classical non-fractional coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. Some numerical examples are also presented.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a fully discrete and structure-preserving scheme for the nonlinear fractional Schrodinger equations. The key is to introduce a scalar auxiliary variable and rewrite the equations as a new family of systems. The new systems are approximated by using the implicit midpoint rule, the repeated trapezoidal rule and the fractional centered difference method. It is shown the fully discrete scheme is mass- and energy-conserved. This is sharp contrast to the former result, i.e., the fully discrete scheme is only mass-conserved for the original equations. Abstract:This paper deals with the Crank-Nicolson Fourier collocation method for the nonlinear fractional Schrodinger equation containing a fractional derivative. We prove that at each discrete time the method preserves the discrete mass and energy conservation laws. The existence, uniqueness and convergence of the numerical solution are also investigated. In particular, we show that the method has the second-order accuracy in time and the spectral accuracy in space. Since the proposed schemes are implicit, they are solved by an iteration algorithm with FFT. Two examples illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the numerical schemes.
A Finite Difference Scheme for (2+1)D Cubic-Quintic Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations with Nonlinear Damping

Abstract:Solitons of the purely cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in a space dimension of $n \geq 2$ suffer critical and supercritical collapses. These solitons can be stabilized in a cubic-quintic nonlinear medium. In this paper, we analyze the Crank-Nicolson finite difference scheme for the (2+1)D cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with cubic damping. We show that both the discrete solution, in the discrete $L^2$-norm, and discrete energy are bounded. By using appropriate settings and estimations, the existence and the uniqueness of the numerical solution are proved. In addition, the error estimations are established in terms of second order for both space and time in discrete $L^2$-norm and $H^1$-norm. Numerical simulations for the (2+1)D cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with cubic damping are conducted to validate the convergence.

A conservative numerical scheme is devised, and three of its discrete conservation laws are proved. Meanwhile, stability and convergence of such scheme with second order convergence rate of time and space are proved by the energy method. In addition, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract:The implicit conservative difference scheme with the fractional centered difference formula, which is unconditionally stable, is employed to discretize the space fractional coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The coefficient matrix of the discretized linear system is equal to the sum of a complex scaled identity matrix which can be written as the imaginary unit times the identity matrix and a symmetric diagonal-plus-Toeplitz matrix. In this paper, the HSS-like iteration method is proposed to solve the discretized linear system. Theoretical analyses show that the HSS-like iteration method is unconditionally convergent. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the HSS-like iteration method.

Abstract:ABSTRACT We devote the present paper to an efficient conservative scheme for the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (CNLS) system, based on the Fourier pseudospectral method, the Crank–Nicolson method and leap-frog method. To obtain the present scheme, the key idea consists of two aspects. First, we solve the CNLS system based on its Hamiltonian structure and the resulted scheme can preserve the Hamiltonian nature. Second, we use Fourier pseudospectral method in spatial discretization and Crank–Nicolson/ leap-frog scheme for discretizing linear/ nonlinear terms in time direction, respectively. The proposed scheme is energy-preserving, mass-preserving, uniquely solvable and unconditionally stable, while being decoupled, linearized and suitable for parallel computation in practical computation. Using the energy method and the classical interpolation theory, an error estimate of the proposed scheme is proven strictly without any grid ratio restrictions in the discrete L2 norm. Finally, numerical results are reported to verify our theoretical analysis.

Abstract:In this paper, a Crank–Nicolson difference scheme is first derived for solving the nonlinear time–space fractional Schrödinger equations. The truncation error and stability of the scheme are discussed in detail. The existence of the numerical solution is shown by the Brouwer fixed point theorem. For improving the calculating efficiency, a three-level linearized difference scheme is also proposed and analyzed. Both schemes are subsequently extended to the nonlinear coupled equations, and some similar results are given and proved. Several numerical experiments are included to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the two types of schemes, and comparison with the related work is presented.

Abstract:In this paper,we propose a conservative finite difference scheme for coupled nonlinear Schrdinger equations.It is proved that the precision in time and space is both of the second order and the conservation for the continuous equation is satisfied.Besides,the scheme is convergent and unconditional stable.The numerical results show that the scheme has higher precision than the other implicit schemes.
