Use of Nervous System Drugs in Our Hospital from 2004 to 2006:Analysis of the Status Quo and Trend

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To investigate the utilization and developing trend of nervous system drugs in our hospital for reference of clinical rational drug use. METHODS: The utilization of nervous system drugs during the period 2004-2006 was evaluated using the order of consumption sum and defined daily dose (DDDs). RESULTS: Of the total drugs used in our hospital during the period 2004-2006, the consumption of nervous system drugs account for 14.21%, 15.10% and 16.84% respectively. Dominating the first places were drugs influencing cerebral vessels and cerebral metabolism, and nootropic drug, but their amount of money presented downtrend. The consumption of analgesics and antiepileptics increased rapidly, with antiepileptics accounting for 9.23% of the total nervous system drugs in 2006. Topping the list of DDDs were predominantly those medicines that with low price and proved efficiency and are suitable for oral use. CONCLUSION: The use of nervous system drugs assumes an increasingly important role in clinical treatment. In terms of consumption sum of money, the drugs which influence cerebral vessels and cerebral metabolism, and nootropic drug took the lead; in terms of DDDs, those medicines that with low price and proved efficiency and are suitable for oral use took the lead.
