Abstract:A polymerizable ligand, 5-acrylamido-1,10-phenanthroline (L), was synthesized. Its Eu(III) complex with 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) was prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, MS, and 1H NMR spectra. The photophysical properties of the complex were studied in detail by using UV, luminescence spectra, luminescence lifetime and quantum yield. The complex shows a remarkable luminescence quantum yield at room temperature (40.1%) upon ligand excitation and a long 5D0 lifetime (590μs), which makes it not only a promising light-conversion molecular device but also an excellent luminescent polymer precursor.

Abstract:Two Eu(III) ternary complexes, Eu(TTA) 3 L1(I) and [Eu(TTA) 3)] 2L2(II) (where, TTA =thenoyltrifluoroacetonate; L1=4,5-diazafluorene-9-one; L2=4, 5-diazafluorene-9-one-azine), have been synthesized. Their compositions and properties were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV and solution fluorescent spectra. The effect of solvents on fluorescent intensity have been discussed. The fluorescence intensity of the complexes in CH 3CN is higher, but DMF results in the decrease of fluorescence intensity of the complexes.

Abstract:The tide complex Eu(III)(TTA)(3)(phen) (where TTA = thenoyltrifluoroacetone monoanion; phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline) has been synthesized in mixed solvents of acetone and ethanol (1:1 volume ratio) and its crystal structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The complex crystals are triclinic, space group p (1) over bar (# 2) with cell dimensions of a = 1.3241(2) nm, b = 1.5278(4) nm, c = 0.9755(3) nm, alpha = 92.49 (2)degrees, beta=102.57(2)degrees, gamma =91.62(2)degrees, V=1.9268(8) nm(3), Z=2, mu(Mo K alpha)=18.77 cm(-1), D-x = 1.720 g/cm(3). The coordination geometry of Eu atom is a distorted square antiprism, and the encapsulated structure that can meet the structural requirement of the typical europium luminescent sensor. The fluorescence spectrum suggests that the complex is a strong photoluminescent material.

Abstract:A europium ternary complex Eu(NO3)3(phen)2(phen=1,10-phenanthroline) has been synthesized and it's structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.The title complex is mononuclear molecule.The central Eu(Ⅲ) ion is connected with six oxygen atoms of three nitrate anions and with four nitrogen atoms of two 1,10-phenanthroline molecules through the mode of chelating bidentate.The coordination number of the center Eu(Ⅲ) ion is ten.Luminescence spectra of the title complex indicate that the emission peak of 615 nm is the most intensive.Thermal decomposition indicates that the complex has fine thermal stability.

Abstract:Five ternary complexes of Eu(Ⅲ) were synthesized with o(m,p)-phthalate as the first ligand,and 1,10-phenanthroline(phen) as the second ligand.They were characterized by elemental analysis,IR and TG-DTG methods.In these complexes,the metal ions were bonded to the oxygen atoms of carboxylate and the nitrogen atoms of phen.The TG-DTG analysis showed that these complexes were thermally stable.The excitation and luminescence spectra were carried out at room temperature.

Abstract:In-situ synthesis of ternary europium complex with thenoyltrifluoacetone (TTA) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) in titania matrix in the presence of dimethylformamide (DMF) by a sol-gel process was described, which was confirmed by the luminescence excitation spectra and infrared spectra. The titania gel that contains europium complex exhibits Eu3+ characteristic emission bands and presents a longer fluorescence lifetime than the pure complexes dissolved in ethanol solution. The concentration effect on the luminescence intensity was also investigated.

Abstract:Two europium trifluoroacetate complexes, Eu(CF3COO)(3)center dot phen (1) and Eu(CF3COO)(3)center dot bpy (2) (where phen=1,10-phenanthroline, bpy=2,2'-bipyridine), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TA). Single-crystal X-ray structure has been determined for the complex [Eu-2(CF3COO)(6)center dot(phen)(3)center dot(H2O)(2)]center dot EtOH. The crystal structure of [Eu-2(CF3COO)(6)center dot(phen)(3)center dot(H2O)(2)]center dot EtOH shows that two different coordination styles with europium ions coexist in the same crystal and have entirely different coordination geometries and numbers. This crystal can be considered as an 1 : 1 adduct of [Eu(CF3COO)(3)center dot(Phen)(2)center dot H2O]center dot EtOH (9-coordination part) and Eu(CF3COO)(3)center dot phen center dot H2O (8-coordination part). The excitation spectra of the two complexes demonstrate that the energy collected by "antenna ligands" is transferred to Eu3+ ions efficiently. The room-temperature PL spectra of the complexes are composed of the typical Eu3+ ions red emission, due to transitions between D-5(0) -> F-7(J(J=0 -> 4)). The lifetimes of D-5(0) of Eu3+ in the complexes were examined using time-resolved spectroscopic analysis, and the lifetime values of Eu(CF3COO)(3)center dot phen and Eu(CF3COO)(3)center dot bpy were fitting with bi-exponential (2987 and 353 mu s) and monoexponential (3191 mu s) curves, respectively. In order to elucidate the energy transfer process of the europium complexes, the energy levels of the relevant electronic states had been estimated. The thermal analyses indicate that they are all quite stable to heat.

Abstract:Ternary lanthanide hexafluoroacetylacetonate complex with triphenylphoshine oxide, Eu0.4Tb0.4 Gd-0.2 (HFA)(3)(TPPO)(2)(HFA = hexafluoroacetylacetonate, TPPO = triphenylphoshine oxide), was synthesized and identified by elemental analysis and FTIR. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra were measured and the characteristic transitions of Eu3+ and Tb3+ were observed. Temperature dependent PL properties of the ternary complex were also studied as well as the influences of Tb3+ and Gd3+ ions on PL properties of Eu3+ ions. As a result, the phonon assisted energy transfer from Tb3+ ions to Eu3+ ions, which enhanced the characteristic fluorescence intensity of Eu3+ ions at room temperature, was observed, and the sample exhibits different luminescent colors at different temperatures. The decay curves from the D-5(0) level of europium ions were measured at various temperatures and the lifetimes were obtained from fitting the data. It is seen that the lifetime decreases with increase in temperature. The complex is promising for being used as temperature detector and thermal-sensitive probe.

Abstract:A fluorescent ternary europium complex containing bis-(diphenyl phosphine oxide) methane which functioned as both a neutral and anion ligand, and thenoyltrifluoroacetonato anion was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, DTA-TG analysis, UV-Vis, FT-IR and MS spectroscopy. The chemical formula is proved to be Eu (TTA) (MPPO) (HMPPO).(NO3). 2H(2)O. Its luminescence quantum efficiency(in acetonitrile, 26.3%) is approximately the same as that of the commonly used red emission luminescent compound, Eu(TTA)(3)(TPPO)(2)(TPPO is triphenyl phosphine oxide). The new complex has comparatively long fluorescence lifetime.

Abstract:A series of binary and ternary rare earth (Gd, Eu, Tb) complexes with ortho hydroxyl benzoic acid, pam aminobenzoic acid, nicotinic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline were synthesized. Phosphorescence spectra and lifetimes of Gd complexes were measured and the lowest triplet state energies of gadolinium binary complexes end the intramolecular energy transfer efficiencies were determined. The luminescence properties and energy transfer process of Eu3+ and Tb3+ complexes were discussed.

Abstract:According to fluorescent spectra of a series of Eu (III) ternary complexes in the three solvents EtOH, DMF and CH3CN, the fluorescence is stronger in the solvent CH3CN than in the solvents EtOH and DMF, and fluorescent intensity is contrary to the affinity of three solvents with rare earth ions. Center ions emit fluorescence mainly by an intramolecular energy transfer from the broad absorbing beta-diketonate TTA, BTA or BA to the chelated rare earth ions.

Abstract:Some novel binary and ternary complexes of rare earth(Gd, Eu,Tb) with N-Phenylanthranilic acid and 1,10-Phenanthroline were synthesized by homogenous precipitation and their compositions were characterized by,elemental analysis, IR spectra and UV-Vis spectra, The triplet state energies of N-Phenylanthranilic acid was determined to be 24 330 cm(-1) with the phosphorescence spectra of its gadolinium complexes and the energy match between the ligand and the central rare earth ions was studied. The photophysical properties such as luminescence properties and intramolecular energy transfer match between rare earth ions and ligands and between ligands were discussed. The result indicates that terbium complexes with N-Phenylanthranilic acid and 1,10-Phenanthroline have excellent luminescence properties.

Abstract:A new ligand, N,N'-Bis(6-methyl-2-pyridine-N-oxide)-1,3-propane (L), and some binary lanthanide complexes (Ln = Eu3+, Tb3+) were synthesized and characterized in detail. The composition of the binary complexes was determined as LnL(NO3)(3). They are 1: 1 electrolytes in DMF. The complexes have strong characteristic line fluorescence emission spectra, and it is also found that TbL(NO3)(3) complex has stronger luminescence intensity than EuL(NO3)(3) in solid state and in methanol.

Abstract:Some novel binary and ternary complexes of rare earth (Tb) with N-phenylanthranilic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline were synthesized and their compositions were characterized by elemental analysis. The compositions of the complexes have been confirmed to be TbL3. 4H2O and TbL3 phen.2H20 (L: N-phenylanthranilic acid, phen: 1;10-phenanthroline). The spectroscopic properties of the complexes were discussed. The result shows that the luminescence intensities of binary and ternary complexes were decreased by N-phenylanthranilic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline. It is indicated that the intensity of Tb depends on the structure of ligands. The structure, energy transfer and energy matching were studied, and it is concluded that the structure of complex affects the luminescence properties of the complexes.

Abstract:Ternary europium complexes with thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) and phenanthroline (phen) were incorporated into SiO 2 /polymer matrix by a sol-gel method. The gels exhibit the characteristic emission bands of europium ion. In addition, Eu 3+ presents a longer fluorescence lifetime in gel than in the corresponding pure complex powder. Concentration effects on the luminescence intensity were investigated. The reasons that are responsible for above results are also discussed in the context.

Abstract:Based on 2, 2':6', 2 ''-terpyridine (L1), five N,N,N-tridentate ligands, namely 4'-carbazol-9-yl-2,2':6',2 ''-terpyridine (L2), 4'-diphenylamino-2,2':6',2 ''-terpyridine (L3), 4'-bis (4-tert-butylpheny1)- amino-2,2' :6',2 ''-terpyridine (L4), 4' -(1-naphthalenyl-N-phenyl)amino-2,2':6',2 ''-terpyridine (L5), 4'-(2-naphthalenyl-N-phenyl) amino-2,2':6',2 ''-terpyridine (L6), have been successfully synthesized. Employing 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) and L1-L6 as the sensitizing ligands, a series of europium (III) complexes (Eu (TTA)(3)L1-Eu (TTA)(3)L6) have been obtained. All the europium (III) complexes show red characteristic emission of Eu (III) D-5(0)-F-7(J) (J=0,1,2,3,4). The introduction of hole transport moieties improves the UV-Vis absorption and luminescence intensities of the europium (III) complexes, and the carbazole containing complex Eu(TTA)(3)L2 exhibits the highest intensity and longest lifetime.

Abstract:In this paper, a series of acyl amino acid europium complexes (Eu[CH 3 (CH 2 CH 2 ) n CONHCH(CH 3 )COO] 3 , n = 0 ∼ 5) were synthesized using N -acyl amido alanine as ligands, and their structures and photophysical properties were studied.The structural and functional group information of europium complexes was obtained by elemental analysis, as well as infrared and hydrogen nuclear magnetic spectral analysis ( 1 H NMR). The theoretical structure of the complexes was obtained by density functional theory (DFT) calculations; the theoretical structure of the complex was shown to be reliable by the comparison of theoretical and experimental vibrational and 1 H NMR spectra. Additionally, the photophysical properties of the solid complexes at room temperature were determined by analysis of Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy(UV–vis) and luminescence spectra. From the test results, it can be seen that the complex had good light absorption capacity in the range of 200–––300 nm; By comparison of the luminescence intensities of the complexes and EuCl 3 proved that acyl amino acid ligands played a role in sensitizing Eu 3+ characteristic luminescence. In addition, the effect of solution concentration on fluorescence performance has been studied. It can be inferred that complexes with longer carbon chains are less prone to aggregation in solution (increasing repulsive forces with increasing hydrophobicity), and the concentration, where fluorescence quenching occurs, is higher. Moreover, the solvent effect on the luminescence performance of the complexes was investigated by testing the luminescence spectrum of the complexes with different carbon chain lengths in a methanol solution(0.01 mol/L). Finally, the variable temperature spectral analysis provided information on the temperature-dependent variation of the luminescence properties of the complexes. The fluorescence performance of complexes with different carbon chain lengths that having different changing trends with temperature, with long carbon chain complexes exhibiting better high-temperature fluorescence stability.

Abstract:In this paper two new ternary amphiphilic rare earth complexes with monotetradecyl phthalate and 1,10-phenanthroline Ln(MTP)3phen(Ln=Eu, Tb) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectra, TG-DTA analysis. Flurescence spectra showed that ternary rare earth complexes have more intensive emission compared with their binary carboxylate composition. The Langmuir films of the two complexes at the air/ water interface were also studied and results showed that all of them have good film forming property. The single molecule areas of Eu(MTP)3phen and Tb(MTP)3phen are 188. 7 Å2 and 194. 2 Å2 and the collapse pressures are 37. 33 mN/m and 36. 43 mN/m, respectively.

Abstract:Ternary europium complex with dibenzoylmethane (DBM) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) was in-situ synthesized in thin SiO2/polyvinyl butyral (PVB) hybrid films by a two-step sol-gel process and characterized by;means of fluorescence spectroscopy. The luminescence spectra, fluorescence lifetimes and photostability were all investigated. The results showed that the hybrid films exhibited the characteristic emission bands of the Central rare earth Eu3+. In addition, Eu3+ presented longer fluorescence lifetime than in an ethanol solution and the complex had a higher photostability in the hybrid film than in the PVB film containing the corresponding pure complex.

Abstract:Five Eu(III), four Tb(III) and two Tm(III) multichromophoric complexes (1-Eu, 1-Tb, 2-Eu, 3-Eu, 3-Tb, 3-Tm, 4-Tb, 4-Tm, 5-Eu, 6-Eu and 6-Tb; where 1=tris[dibenzoylmethanido] (4′-chloro-2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine), 2=tris[dibenzoylmethanido] (4′-(9H-carbazol-9yl)-2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine), 3=tris(1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonato), 4=tris[1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonato] (tripyridin-2-ylamine), 5=tris[dibenzoylmethanido][N-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)butyl)-N-(dipyridin-2-yl)amine] and 6=tris[dibenzoylmethanido][N-(6-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)hexyl)-N-(dipyridin-2-yl)amine]) emitting in the blue (Tm), green (Tb) and red (Eu) spectral regions, have been synthesized and characterized. The complexes involve five different coordinating (2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine (terpy); dibenzoylmethane (dbm); 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonato (hfa), tripyridin-2-ylamine (tri-amine) and N-(dipyridin-2-yl)amine (di-amine)) and one non-coordinating (carbazole) units. The synthesis and photophysical properties of these complexes are reported addressing the influence of the various ligands on the lanthanide metal-centered luminescence in CH2Cl2 solution and solid state matrices.
