Abstract:PURPOSE: To study the expression of glutathione S-transferase P1(GSTP1) in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma and discuss its relationship with clinicopathological features and tumorigenesis of SACC.METHODS: The expression of GSTP1 in 51cases of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma and 18 samples of adjacent salivary gland tissues was detected by immunohistochemical staining method,correlation between GSTP1 expression and the clinicopathological features in SACC was analyzed.SPSS 13.0 software package was used for statistical analysis.RESULTS: The expression of GSTP1 in SACC was significantly higher than that in adjacent salivary gland tissues(P0.05).In SACC,the strength of GSTP1 expression was significantly related to histological grade(P0.05).The GSTP1 expression was greatly reduced in grade 1 and grade 2 tumors compared to that in grade 3.GSTP1 was mainly expressed in the nucleus in grade 1 tumors while the expression in the cytoplasm of the cells increased significantly(P=0.022) with the increase of the histological grade.CONCLUSION: Overexpression of GSTP1 and its different localizations within the cells were related to the tumorigenesis,and tumor cell differentiation of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma.
