Abstract:The equations of state were calculated with Thomas Fermi(TF) method and TF equivalent ionicity was introduced for the plasma hydrogen.The calculated results of the equivalent ionicity indicated that TF method can be used in wide range of the temperature ( T) and density( ρ ),and is more reasonable than ACTEX and DH methods at high density.

Abstract:The mixing rule and the variational perturbation theory together with van der Waals one- fluid model have been used to study the equation of state of the dense fluid He+H 2 mixtures with different H 2∶He compositions in this work.The first-order quantum correction is included.To test the model and computational code,the isotherm of the fluid He+H 2 mixtures at 300 K is calculated by using the existing α-exp-6 optimization potential parameters.The calculated isotherm for the fluid He+H 2 mixtures is in agreement with the experimental data and molecular dynamics simulations.Then the equation of state of the fluid He+H 2 mixtures with different He∶H 2 (He∶H 2=1∶1,1∶3,3∶1) compositions have been further investigated in the pressure range 0～60 GPa and temperature in the range 50～7000 K.Comparisons of the present results with Monte-Carlo simulations indicate that the quantum corrections for the calculation of the thermodynamic properties become significant at lower temperatures.

Abstract:An equation of state for 3He using the Helmholtz potential function has been developed. The lower limit of the equation of 0.01 K is safely above the superfluid transition at 0.0026 K. The upper limit of 60 K is approximately the upper limit of available 3He property measurements. The new state equation form is based on Debye function which goes smoothly to zero in the limit of zero temperature and reduces to the ideal gas in the limit of zero density and/or very high temperature. The equation combines (a) necessary temperature-independent compressibility terms at the lowest temperatures, (b) terms describing the linear specific heat of a Fermi fluid below 1 K, (c) terms describing the phonon excitations which begin above about 1 K, and (d) terms which attempt to fit the conventional critical point thermodynamics at 3.3157 K and 114 604 Pa. State properties, e.g., p-V-T relations, specific heats, thermal expansion, sound velocity, etc., are determined from the Helmholtz energy by standard thermodynamics. Transport properties, e.g., thermal conductivity and viscosity, are not obtained in this work.

Abstract:An equation of state for normal liquid 3He has been constructed in the form of Helmholtz free energy as a function of independent parameters—temperature, and density. The equation was fitted simultaneously to the collected experimental p-ρ-T, specific heat, sound velocity, isobaric expansion coefficient and isothermal compressibility coefficient from the world’s literature to accuracies comparable with reasonable experimental errors in the measured quantities. Extensive comparisons between the equation of state and experimental data have been made by a set of deviation plots. The state equation is valid in the region for temperatures from 0.1 K to T c = 3.3157 K, and for pressures from vapor pressures to melting pressures.

Abstract:A new form of a fluid state equation, based on a conceptual extrapolation from the Debye equation for the specific heat of solid materials is described. The Debye characteristic temperature, Θ, which is nominally a constant for solids, becomes a function of the fluid density ρ. Further assuming ${\Theta = c_{1}\rho^{2/3}(1 + c_{2} \rho + c_{3} \rho ^{2} + {\cdots})}$ yields the conventional fluid virial equation in the high-T and low-ρ limits for a monatomic fluid. Additional terms must be added to describe (a) the compressibility of the dense subcooled fluid and (b) properties in the near-critical range. Discussion of the Gruneisen parameter and other factors is included. This Debye fluid theory was used as a state equation for 3He, continuous from 0.005 K to above room temperature.

Abstract:The equation of state, self-diffusion, and viscosity coefficients of helium have been investigated by quantum molecular dynamics (QMD) simulations in the warm dense matter regime. Our simulations are validated through the comparison with the reliable experimental data. The calculated principal and reshock Hugoniots of liquid helium are in good agreement with the gas-gun data. On this basis, we revisit the issue for helium, i.e., the possibility of the instabilities predicted by chemical models at around 2000 GPa and 10 g/cm(3) along the pressure isotherms of 6309, 15 849, and 31 623 K. Our calculations show no indications of instability in this pressure-temperature region, which reconfirm the predictions of previous QMD simulations. The self-diffusion and viscosity coefficients of warm dense helium have been systematically investigated by the QMD simulations. We carefully test the finite-size effects and convergences of statistics, and obtain numerically converged self-diffusion and viscosity coefficients by using the Kubo-Green formulas. The present results have been used to evaluate the existing one component plasma models. Finally, the validation of the Stokes-Einstein relationship for helium in the warm dense regime is discussed. Abstract:Comprehensive knowledge of physical properties such as equation of state (EOS), proton exchange, dynamic structures, diffusion coefficients, and viscosities of hydrogen-deuterium mixtures with densities from 0.1 to 5 g/cm^{3} and temperatures from 1 to 50 kK has been presented via quantum molecular dynamics (QMD) simulations. The existing multi-shock experimental EOS provides an important benchmark to evaluate exchange-correlation functionals. The comparison of simulations with experiments indicates that a nonlocal van der Waals density functional (vdW-DF1) produces excellent results. Fraction analysis of molecules using a weighted integral over pair distribution functions was performed. A dissociation diagram together with a boundary where the proton exchange (H_{2}+D_{2}⇌2HD) occurs was generated, which shows evidence that the HD molecules form as the H_{2} and D_{2} molecules are almost 50% dissociated. The mechanism of proton exchange can be interpreted as a process of dissociation followed by recombination. The ionic structures at extreme conditions were analyzed by the effective coordination number model. High-order cluster, circle, and chain structures can be founded in the strongly coupled warm dense regime. The present QMD diffusion coefficient and viscosity can be used to benchmark two analytical one-component plasma (OCP) models: the Coulomb and Yukawa OCP models.

Abstract:Nonsegmented equations for melting pressure and density at temperatures from $0.001\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\text{to}\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}30\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$ have been developed to fit the reference data. The maximum and average deviations between the melting pressure equation and the totaling 298 reference data are 2.17% and 0.218%, respectively. For the density equations, the average deviations are 0.236% for the liquid side and 0.218% for the solid side. Both the melting pressure curve and melting density curves predicted by the submitted equations approach their minimums at about $0.315\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$.

Abstract:At low temperatures the properties of the isotope He-3 differ considerably from those of He-4 because of quantum effects. Based on the work of Gibbons, the thermodynamic properties can be calculated with a modified Strobridge equation between 4K and 20K, while between 20K and 100K a correlation based on the modified quantum version of the principle of corresponding states instead. In this correlation the reduced de Broglie wavelength lambda(*) is introduced as the third parameter besides the reduced temperature and volume. Hereby, a program is built to compute the properties of He-3 between I K and 100K, including the PVT properties, entropy, enthalpy, internal energy, thermal conductivity and viscosity. The results agree with the technical report AFML-TR-67-175 of Air Products and Chemical Inc.
A practical density equation for saturated vapor of helium-3 from 0.01 K to the critical point

Abstract:Based on the ideal gas state equation and the saturated vapor pressure equation of helium-3, a saturated vapor density equation is proposed, which can be applied for calculating the saturated vapor density of helium-3 from 0.01K to the critical temperature. Above 1.4K, the average deviation between the results by this equation and experimental data is about 0.66% and the maximum is 2%. Below 1.4K, the results of this work show a comfortable agreement with those by virial state equation (the deviations are generally within 0.1%). Based on this new vapor density equation, the compressibility factor of saturated vapor is determined and the vaporization heat is calculated.

Abstract:A density equation for saturated vapor and liquid 3He is presented based on 205 experimental measurements for temperatures greater than 0.2 K collected after a careful survey of the literature. The average deviation of the densities predicted by the equation against the experimental values is 0.39%. There are only 16 points with deviations larger than 1%. This equation is valid for both liquid and vapor densities of 3He up to the critical temperature of 3.3157 K. The form of the equation satisfies known scaling laws approaching the critical point, with β=0.3653. In the low-density limit, the vapor curve of our equation matches smoothly to the published virial equation density at a temperature of 1.62 K and at the saturation pressure. The rectilinear density deviates from the critical density by less than 0.28% down to 0.48 K.

Abstract:An accurate equation of state for deuterium-tritium mixture is of crucial importance in inertial confinement fusion. The equation of state can determine the compressibility of the imploding target and the energy deposited into the fusion fuel. In the present work, a new deuterium-tritium equation of state, which is calculated according to quantum molecular dynamic and orbital free molecular dynamic simulations, has been used to study the target implosion hydrodynamics. The results indicate that the peak density predicted by the new equation of state is ∼10% higher than the quotidian equation of state data. During the implosion, the areal density and neutron yield are also discussed.

Abstract:Accurate knowledge of the equation of state (EOS) of deuterium–tritium (DT) mixtures is critically important for inertial confinement fusion (ICF). Although the study of EOS is an old topic, there is a longstanding lack of global accurate EOS data for DT within a unified theoretical framework. DT fuel goes through very wide ranges of density and temperature from a cold condensed state to a hot dense plasma where ions are in a moderately or even strongly coupled state and electrons are in a partially or strongly degenerate state. The biggest challenge faced when using first-principles methods for obtaining accurate EOS data for DT fuel is the treatment of electron–ion interactions and the extremely high computational cost at high temperatures. In the present work, we perform extensive state-of-the-art ab initio quantum Langevin molecular dynamics simulations to obtain EOS data for DT mixtures at densities from 0.1 g/cm3 to 2000 g/cm3 and temperatures from 500 K to 2000 eV, which are relevant to ICF processes. Comparisons with average-atom molecular dynamics and orbital-free molecular dynamics simulations show that the ionic strong-coupling effect is important for determining the whole-range EOS. This work can supply accurate EOS data for DT mixtures within a unified ab initio framework, as well as providing a benchmark for various semiclassical methods.

Abstract:We present novel first-principle fermionic path integral Monte Carlo (PIMC) simulation results for a dense partially ionized hydrogen (deuterium) plasma, for temperatures in the range $15,000$K $\leq T \leq 400,000$K and densities $7 \cdot 10^{-7}$g/cm$^{3}\leq \rho_H \leq 0.085$ g/cm$^{3}$ ($1.4 \cdot 10^{-6}$g/cm$^{3}\leq \rho_D \leq 0.17$ g/cm$^{3}$), corresponding to $100\geq r_s\geq 2$, where $r_s=\bar r/a_B$ is the ratio of the mean interparticle distance to the Bohr radius. These simulations are based on the fermionic propagator PIMC (FP-PIMC) approach in the grand canonical ensemble [A. Filinov \textit{et al.}, Contrib. Plasma Phys. \textbf{61}, e202100112 (2021)] and fully account for correlation and quantum degeneracy and spin effects. For the application to hydrogen and deuterium, we develop a combination of the fourth-order factorization and the pair product ansatz for the density matrix. Moreover, we avoid the fixed node approximation that may lead to uncontrolled errors in restricted PIMC (RPIMC). Our results allow us to critically re-evaluate the accuracy of the RPIMC simulations for hydrogen by Hu \textit{et al.} [Phys. Rev. B \textbf{84}, 224109 (2011)] and of various chemical models. The deviations are generally found to be small, but for the lowest temperature, $T=15,640$~K they reach several percent. We present detailed tables with our first principles results for the pressure and energy isotherms.

Abstract:The equation of state of liquid metallic hydrogen is solved numerically. Investigations are carried out at temperatures, which correspond both to the experimental conditions under which metallic hydrogen is produced on earth and the conditions in the cores of giant planets of the solar system such as Jupiter and Saturn. It is assumed that hydrogen is in an atomic state and all its electrons are collectivized. Perturbation theory in the electron and proton interaction is applied to determine the thermodynamic potentials of metallic hydrogen. The electron subsystem is considered in the randomphase approximation with regard to the exchange interaction and the correlation of electrons in the local field approximation. The interproton interaction is taken into account in the hard spheres approximation. The thermodynamic characteristics of metallic hydrogen are calculated with regard to the zero-, second-, and thirdorder perturbation theory terms. The third-order term proves to be rather essential at moderately high temperatures and densities, although it is much smaller than the second-order term. The thermodynamic potentials of metallic hydrogen are monotonically increasing functions of density and temperature. The values of pressure for the temperatures and pressures that are characteristic of the conditions under which metallic hydrogen is produced on earth coincide with the corresponding values reported by the discoverers of metallic hydrogen to a high degree of accuracy. The temperature and density ranges are found in which there exists a liquid phase of metallic hydrogen.

Abstract:Thermophysical properties of dense deuterium-helium plasmas along the 160 g/cm3 isochore with temperatures up to 800 electron-volt are reported. From Kubo-Greenwood formula, the electronic thermal conductivity and Rosseland mean opacity are determined by means of quantum molecular dynamics (QMD) simulations. Equation of states is obtained by QMD and orbital free molecular dynamics. The electronic heat conductance is compared with several models currently used in inertial confinement fusion designs. Our results indicate that only in the weak coupling regime, the opacity is sensitive to the concentration of helium.

Abstract:High-density lithium plasmas are expected to be generated in the Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) reactor chamber due to energy deposition of the prompt X-rays and ion debris in the first wall. These dense plasmas are encountered in many other applications as well. The design and optimization of such lithium-based applications requires information about the thermodynamic properties of Li fluid over a wide range of parameters including the high-energy-density regime. A model that takes into account all essential features of strongly-coupled plasmas of metal vapors is developed and used to predict the equation-of-state (EOS), critical constants, thermodynamic functions, and principal shock Hugoniot of hot dense lithium fluid. Predictions and computational results from the present model are analyzed and presented and are available in electronic form suitable for use to interested researchers and scientists.

Abstract: An equation of state relates the thermodynamic properties of substance. The ideal gas equation of state expresses a common characteristic of all substances that tend towards the low-density limit and has been widely used in the low-density region. As the density increases, the substance state moves away from the ideal gas state. Instead, a large number of empirical or semi-empirical equations of state have been developed, yet whose extrapolation behaviors are generally poor due to the lack of physical meanings in their terms. The high-density substances show some symmetric features with the low-density substances. Given this symmetry, here we define a high-density limiting state called the ideal dense fluid and give its equation of state. This ideal dense fluid equation of state is shown to represent the thermodynamic property variations of high-density substances. Then we develop two universal equations of state by the interpolation of the ideal gas and the ideal dense fluid equations of state. The universal equations of state both have high description accuracy and good prediction ability. There are two thermodynamic limiting states for a substance and the ideal gas state is just one of them. Actual substances behave with the nature of the superposition of the two limiting states.
