Abstract:A high efficient diode-pumped Tm:YAP laser is reported. The maximum output power at 1981 nm is 5.2 W and the slope efficiency is 30%. Unpolarized absorption near 800 nm and unpolarized fluorescence spectra near 1800 nm pumped by laser diode (LD) are measured. In addition, the relationship between operation temperature and output power is discussed.

Abstract:A Yb YAG ceramic slab is designed theoretically and fabricated, and the high power laser output is achieved at 1030 nm under room-temperature with InGaAs diode pumping, 1030 nm seed laser injecting and doublepass amplifying. The amplified laser power is 5.97 kW when the total pumping power is 19.98 kW and the injected power of the seed laser is 1.18 kW. The optical -to -optical conversion efficiency is 21.0% and the slope efficiency is 27.9%. The transmission wavefront of the Yb:YAG ceramic slab is measured and the output powers with different coupling efficiencies and working temperatures arc simulated. The experimental results show that the high power laser output can be achieved in Yb YAG under room-temperature with high intensity pumping and high intensity seed laser injecting.

Abstract:A new compact high efficient diode-double-passing-pumped Tm:YLF laser at room temperature is presented. Using a crystal of 3 mm × 3 mm × 12 mm 4% doping Tm:YLF and double-end-double-passing pumping cavity structure without complex optical splitter pumping system, 5.6 W CW 1907.6 nm laser is obtained at 26.2 W 792 nm pumping laser. The slope efficiency is as high as 37.8% and the spectrum width is 2 nm. The relationship between cavity length and output laser is also analyzed. Experiments verify that the highest energy and convertion efficiency can be reached by optimizing the oscillator cavity length. Finally, we used this Tm:YLF laser to pump Ho:YAG crystal at room temperature and achieved 1.65 W 2.1 μm output laser with slope efficiency 67%.

Abstract:We demonstrated a high power and good beam quality continuous-wave (CW) Tm:YAP slab laser operating at room temperature. Two fiber-coupled laser diodes were used as pump source, the maximum output power of 105 W at 1936.4 nm was achieved with the total incident pump power of 308 W, corresponding to the slope efficiency and optical-to-optical efficiency were 41.4% and 34.1% with respect to the incident pump power, respectively. At the maximum output power, the beam quality factors M2 were 2.76 and 2.78 in the x and y directions, respectively. Besides, a theoretical model was presented to predict the temperature distribution, thermal induced stress and laser performance of the Tm:YAP slab laser, and the experimental results were consistent with the theoretical simulation results which indicated that this model could simulate hundred-watt-level Tm:YAP lasers well.

Abstract:We report a compact high power Tm,Ho:YAG laser nearly at room temperature. The laser-diode side-pumped Tm:YAG and Tm,Ho:YAG laser modules are operated in the same cavity. The laser yields 37.34 W of continuous wave output power under the temperature of 6°C, corresponding to a maximum slope efficiency of 16.7% when the output power lies from 5.1 W to 27.0 W. This is the first report on the combined Tm:YAG and Tm,Ho:YAG lasers for obtaining high power 2.1 μm laser.

Abstract:We reported on a diode end-pumped AO Q-switched Tm:YAP laser at 1937 nm. The average output power was 3.9 W, with a slope efficiency of 29.4% and optical-optical conversion efficiency of 21.6% at a 5-kHz repetition rate. Abstract:We report the continuous-wave and acousto-optical Q-switched operation of a diode-end-pumped Tm:YAP laser. Continuous-wave output power of 3.5 W at 1.99 μm was obtained under the absorbed pump power of 14 W. Under Q-switched laser operation, the average output power increased from 1.57 W to 2.0 W, with an absorbed pump power of 12.6 W, as the repetition rate increased from 1 kHz to 10 kHz. The maximum Q-switched pulse energy was 1.57 mJ with a repetition rate of 1 kHz. The minimum pulse width was measured to be about 80 ns, corresponding to a peak power of 19.6 kW.

Abstract:Single-wave length operation of a c-cut Tm (5%), Ho (0.3%):YAP microchip laser pumped by a fiber-coup led diode-laser was reported. Under cryogenic temperature, the output power of 188 mW was obtained under the incident power of 2230 mW, corresponding to the slope efficiency was 12.2%. As much as 168 mW output and slope efficiency of 5.7% was obtained under the pump power of 3400 mW at 291 K. In addition, a maximum single-wave length output power of 60 mW at wavelength of 2130.2 nm and 14 mW at wavelength of 2102.4 nm is demonstrated under 77 and 291 K, respectively.

Abstract:In this study, we demonstrate a high-power continuous-wave (CW) Tm:YAP slab laser that is endpumped by laser diodes in a dual-end-pumped configuration. The laser delivers an output power of up to 341.6Wat 1.99 μm, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 49.4% and an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 41.6% with respect to the total incident pump power of 822 W. To our knowledge, this is the highest output power of a Tm:YAP laser. At an output power of 300 W, the beam quality factors M 2 are measured to be 260 in the x direction and 4 in the y direction, respectively. In addition, the power instability at the highest output power is measured to be 0.73% for 30 min. Also, we theoretically analyze the temperature distribution within the Tm:YAP slab crystal by the simulation software COMSOL 5.0.

Abstract:High power and high beam quality continuous wave Tm:YLF laser by the dual-end-pumped is presented in this letter. The highest output power reaches 21.3 W when the totally input pump power is 54.6 W. The optical conversion efficiency is 39.0% and the slope efficiency is 47.3% With an F-P etalon in, the cavity, the output center wavelength is tuned to 1908 nm with about 0.5 nm FWHM. With the optimal cavity, the beam quality factor M-2 can be similar to 1.1. As we know, our work is the first time to investigate the Tm:YLF laser output spectrum with an F-P etalon in the cavity, and acquire near-diffraction limited laser output.

Abstract:The laser diode (LD)-pumped Tm:YAP (a-cut, 3.5 at.%) laser generated a maximum ∼2.3 µm continuous wave (CW) laser output power of ∼3 W. The higher output power benefited from the positive effect of the cascade lasing (simultaneously operating on the 3H4 → 3H5 and 3F4 → 3H6 Tm3+ transition). It was the highest CW laser output power amongst the LD/Ti:Sapphire-CW-pumped ∼2.3 µm Tm3+-doped lasers reported so far. Under the cascade laser operation, the slope efficiency of the ∼2.3 µm laser emission versus the absorbed pump power increased from 13.0% to 21.4%.

Abstract:We have experimentally demonstrated a highly efficient diode-pumped Tm:YAG ceramic laser operating at 2 μm wavelength. The maximum output power of 6.05 W was realized with a slope efficiency as high as 65%. As far as we know, it is the highest slope efficiency reported for Tm:YAG ceramic laser. The wavelength tuning experiment of Tm:YAG ceramic laser was carried out and the results suggest that Tm:YAG ceramic laser could operate simultaneously at multiple wavelengths in a wide range of 1884-2017 nm.

Abstract:A high-power Tm:YAG ceramic slab laser is reported. Deliberate thermal management was made to dissipate the heat effectively and release the stress in ceramics. The influence of pump wavelength on laser performance was investigated. A maximum of 52 W output power was achieved, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 27.8 % with respect to the incident pump power. As to our knowledge, this is the highest 2-μm laser output power reported in Tm:YAG ceramic lasers. This result proves that Tm:YAG laser ceramic is a promising candidate for 2-μm high-power laser applications.

Abstract:A water-cooled 785 nm diode-side-pumped high-power CW Tm:YAG laser system at 2 μm is reported. 200 W output power is achieved with cooling water running at 8°C. As far as we know, this is the highest output power for a diode-pumped all solid-state 2 μm Tm:YAG laser. The output corresponds to optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 11.2%, with a slope efficiency of about 22.8%. To make the system structure simple, only deionized water is used as the coolant instead of alcohol- or glycol-water mixture or the liquid nitrogen in the reported high-power Tm rod laser experiments, which were performed at low temperature near the freezing point of water, or even below.

Abstract:2.3–2.5 μm laser operation of LD-pumped Tm:YAP on the 3H4→3H5 transition is reported. The a-cut, b-cut and c-cut Tm:YAP crystals with 2 at.% doping concentration were used to characterize the laser performance. All the laser outputs were found to be linearly polarized that is induced by the gain anisotropy of Tm:YAP. First laser oscillation of Tm-doped laser on the 3H4→3H5 transition beyond 2.4 μm in Tm:YAP was realized by using a specially designed output coupler with a high transmittance at 2200–2350 nm and partial reflection at 2400–2500 nm. 736 mW at 2446 nm and 189 mW at 2482 nm are obtained from the a-cut and b-cut crystal, respectively. Furthermore, continuous-wave and passively Q-switched dual-wavelength Tm:YAP laser at 2274 and 2383 nm were realized with the a-cut crystal. 538 mW at 2353 nm with a slope efficiency of 8.3% is achieved from the c-cut crystal. Our work demonstrates the multi-wavelength emitting ability of LD-pumped Tm:YAP laser on the 3H4→3H5 transition, which can further expand the application of Tm-doped lasers.

Abstract:We report on high power and efficient operation of a compact Ho: YAP laser in-band pumped at 1931 and 1943 nm with a high-power and narrow-linewidth Tm-doped fiber laser. Using a 0.5at. % Ho3+ doped Ho: YAP cut along the b-axis and a simple two-mirror resonator, up to 202 W of output power has been generated at ∼2118 nm for 336 W of absorbed pump power at 1931 nm, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 61.2% with respect to the absorbed pump power. The laser output is linearly polarized along the c-axis with a polarization extinction ratio (PER) of ∼20.0 dB. Results presented in this work verify the superior power scaling capability of Ho: YAP at ∼2.1 μm with high lasing efficiency.

Abstract:We report a high-power diode-laser (LD) side-pumped rod Tm:YAG laser of around 2 mu m. The laser was water-cooled at 8 degrees C and yielded a maximum output power of 267 W at 2.07 mu m, which is the highest output power for an all solid-state cw 2.07 mu m rod Tm:YAG laser reported as far as we know. Abstract:A high-energy, high-peak-power Q-switched Tm:YAG laser at 2.02 μm with a tunable repetition rate from 100 Hz to 1000 Hz and pulse duration in the hundreds of nanoseconds is demonstrated. The high energy output was achieved by employing a thermally stable linear cavity, including two compact laser diode continuous-wave side-pumped Tm:YAG laser modules. For Q-switched operation, stable Q-switched performance from 100 Hz to 1000 Hz was realized at near-room temperature. At a repetition rate of 100 Hz, the laser delivered a maximum pulse energy of 215 mJ with a pulse duration of 124.4 ns, resulting in a peak power of up to 1.73 MW. When the repetition rate was tuned to 200 Hz, 500 Hz, and 1000 Hz, pulse energies of 212 mJ, 125.6 mJ, and 68.2 mJ were obtained, with pulse durations of 133.6 ns, 176.3 ns, and 262 ns, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, these results represent the highest single pulse energies and peak powers ever accomplished for a diode-pumped Q-switched Tm-doped 2 μm laser operating at high repetition rates exceeding 100 Hz.

Abstract:We analyzed the spectroscopic performances of Yb:YAG and developed an efficient room-temperature 20 at.% Yb:YAG thin chip (6 x 6 x 0.5 mm) laser operating at 1,053 mu m pumped by Ti-sapphire laser operating at 940 nm, Output power of 356 mW was obtained for an absorbed pump power of 784 mW. The slope efficiency was 69%, and the extrapolated threshold was 273 mW. The slope efficiency was as high as 72% with absorbed pump power exceeding 730 mW.

Abstract:We demonstrated a high optical-to-optical efficiency, compact Ho:YLF MOPA system operating at room temperature. The pump source was a 1937.8 nm linearly polarized Tm:YAP slab laser. At the PRF of 10 kHz, the maximum average output power of the oscillator and the amplifier were 51.1 W and 61.1 W, with the incident pump power of 97.3 W, respectively. The optical-to-optical efficiency of the MOPA system was up to 62.8%. As far as we know, it is the most efficient Ho:YLF MOPA system with a compact structure. The highest per pulse energy was 6.1 mJ with a pulse width of 22.5 ns, corresponding to a peak power of 265.2 kW. Besides, the beam quality was excellent with the M 2 factor of ∼1.1.
