Abstract:The tide salt clay in Zhejiang Province was selected as research object,and the soil N and soil P were analyzed with NIR spectroscopic techniques.Six group samples were collected from a rice farm.Several kinds of nutritional water with different concentrations were added to the six groups,and then the samples were dried and rubbed.At last,120 samples were got from six groups equably.Standard normal variate(SNV),multivariate scatter correction(MSC) and smoothing of moving average were used to process the spectral data.Different calibration models were established and the performance of these models was compared with different pretreatment methods.After comparison,smoothing of moving average was found to be the best spectral pretreatment method.96 samples were randomly selected from 120 samples as the calibration set,and the other 24 samples were used as the validation samples.Two discriminating analysis models were developed using partial least squares(PLS) method and least squares-support vector machine(LS-SVM) method respectively.The correlation coefficients(r) between the measured data and the predicted data from PLS were 0.945 4(N),0.932 7(P) respectively,and 0.032 1(N),0.954 7(P) from LS-SVM,respectively.The root mean standard error of prediction(RMSEP) were 0.032 1(N),0.008 9(P) from PLS,and 0.037 8(N),0.010 1(P) from LS-SVM.The results showed that NIRS could be used to evaluate the soil N and soil P.

Abstract:Visible near infrared spectroscopy combined with genetic algorithm and successive projection algorithm was investigated to detect soil organic matter (OM). A total of 394 soil samples were collected from Wencheng, Zhejiang province. In order to simplify calibration model, a total of 18 characteristic wavelengths were selected with using genetic algorithm and successive projections algorithm. These characteristic wavelengths were subjected to partial least squares regression (PLSR) with leave-one-out cross validation to establish calibration model of soil organic matter (OM) with coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.81, 0.83, RMSEP of 0.22, 0.20 and residual prediction deviation (RPD) of 2.31, 2.45 for the calibration set and prediction set respectively. The results showed that using genetic algorithm and successive projections algorithm can simplify the model greatly while the assessing indexes of model such as R2, RMSEP and RPD were not reduced greatly compared with indexes of model using full spectra data to develop calibration model. Therefore, genetic algorithm combined with successive projections algorithm can be used to simply the model to predict soil organic matter.

Abstract:In situ measurements with visible and near-infrared spectroscopy (vis-NIR) provide an efficient way for acquiring soil information of paddy soils in the short time gap between the harvest and following rotation. The aim of this study was to evaluate its feasibility to predict a series of soil properties including organic matter (OM), organic carbon (OC), total nitrogen (TN), available nitrogen (AN), available phosphorus (AP), available potassium (AK) and pH of paddy soils in Zhejiang province, China. Firstly, the linear partial least squares regression (PLSR) was performed on the in situ spectra and the predictions were compared to those with laboratory-based recorded spectra. Then, the non-linear least-square support vector machine (LS-SVM) algorithm was carried out aiming to extract more useful information from the in situ spectra and improve predictions. Results show that in terms of OC, OM, TN, AN and pH, (i) the predictions were worse using in situ spectra compared to laboratory-based spectra with PLSR algorithm (ii) the prediction accuracy using LS-SVM (R2>0.75, RPD>1.90) was obviously improved with in situ vis-NIR spectra compared to PLSR algorithm, and comparable or even better than results generated using laboratory-based spectra with PLSR; (iii) in terms of AP and AK, poor predictions were obtained with in situ spectra (R2<0.5, RPD<1.50) either using PLSR or LS-SVM. The results highlight the use of LS-SVM for in situ vis-NIR spectroscopic estimation of soil properties of paddy soils.

Effectiveness of Different Approaches for in Situ Measurements of Organic Carbon Using Visible and Near Infrared Spectrometry in the Poyang Lake Basin Area

Abstract:Research on soil carbon dynamics and content in the Poyang Lake basin area is important because of their effects on the soil carbon pool and soil carbon cycle. Visible and near infrared (VNIR) diffuse reflectance spectroscopy can provide analytical dense soil data reflecting multiple physical and chemical properties of soil under in situ conditions. The effective use of in situ VNIR in the Poyang Lake basin area would greatly improve the collection of high-resolution and spatially explicit soil data and, thus, hasten the monitoring process. We collected two data sets S-1 and S-2 in 2016-2018. A dataset from S-1 was used to develop the in situ correction matrix using laboratory and in situ spectra. Spectra from the Chinese Soil Spectroscopic Database (CSSD) and dataset of S-1 in dry laboratory conditions were used for calibration (CSSD-local calibration). The dataset from S-2 was utilized as the validation dataset. Four in situ correction methods, external parameter orthogonalization (EPO), piecewise direct standardization, direct standardization, and generalized least squares weighting, were used to remove the in situ effect on the spectra. In addition, partial least squares regression and support vector machine (SVM), were used to test the effectiveness of the prediction. We also compared the prediction results by calibration of the CSSD, CSSD-local and CSSD combined with four in situ samples from the validation datasets with extra-weighting (CSSD-EX). The results showed that EPO was the most effective method for removing the in situ effect. EPO and SVM with the calibration of CSSD-EX yielded the best prediction result with the lowest root mean squared error at 1.71 g kg(-1) and the highest Lin's concordance correlation coefficient at 0.88. The CSSD with EPO and SVM would allow the in situ estimation of soil organic carbon in the Poyang Lake basin area at a reasonable cost.

Abstract:Soil organic matter (SOM) is an essential indicator for the fertility assessment of farmland. and An efficient and stable prediction model is in need to rapidly estimate SOM in larger scale. Spectroscopic technology has been proved as a powerful tool to access SOM in the last decade. The aims of this paper were: to compare different selection method of calibration set for modeling SOM in paddy soil by using visible-near infrared (VNIR), mid-infrared (MIR) and VNIR-MIR spectra and to assess the prediction ability of the results. All spectra were transformed from reflectance to absorbance, and preprocessed by Savitzky-Golay smoothing algorithm. The prediction models of SOM were built by using partial least squares regression (PLSR) coupled with three selection methods of calibration set in VNIR, MIR and VNIR-MIR regions. The selection method of calibration Rank-KS performed better than Rank method and KS method, meanwhile the models in MIR region showed stronger prediction ability than VNIR and VNIR-MLR regions. The best prediction model was obtained with the MIR model combined with Rank-KS, and the root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) and ratio of performance to deviation (RPD) were 3. 25 g . kg(-1) and 4. 24. According to variable in the projection (VIP) score, important bands for SOM prediction in paddy soil were identified in VNIR and MIR region. Our results show that MIR spectroscopy could make quantitative prediction of SOM in paddy soil and Rank-KS is an effective method for selection of calibration sets, so as to provide some scientific basis for fertility assessment of farmland and rational fertilization.
