Abstract:We show that the recent result of Castañeda and Wu regarding the ramification filtration in certain $p$-extensions of function fields of prime characteristic $p$ is equally valid over local fields of mixed characteristic $(0,p)$. Apart from being applicable to both equicharacteristic and mixed characteristic cases, our method is local, conceptual, natural, and shorter.

Abstract:The Grothendieck-Ogg-Shafarevich formula calculates the l-adic Euler-Poincare number of an l-adic sheaf on a curve by an invariant produced by the wild ramification of the l-adic sheaf named Swan class. A. Abbes, K. Kato and T. Saito generalize this formula to any dimensional scheme. In this paper, assuming the strong resolution of singularities we prove a localized version of a formula proved by A. Abbes and T. Saito using the characteristic class of an l-adic sheaf. As an application, we prove a conductor formula in equal characteristic.

Relative p-adic Hodge theory, II: Imperfect period rings

Abstract:In a previous paper, we constructed a category of (phi, Gamma)-modules associated to any adic space over Q_p with the property that the etale (phi, Gamma)-modules correspond to etale Q_p-local systems; these involve sheaves of period rings for Scholzeu0027s pro-etale topology. In this paper, we first extend Kiehlu0027s theory of coherent sheaves on rigid analytic spaces to a theory of pseudocoherent sheaves on adic spaces, then construct a corresponding theory of pseudocoherent (phi, Gamma)-modules. We then relate these objects to a more explicit construction in case the space comes equipped with a suitable infinite etale cover; in this case, one can decomplete the period sheaves and establish an analogue of the theorem of Cherbonnier-Colmez on the overconvergence of p-adic Galois representations. As an application, we show that relative (phi, Gamma)-modules in our sense coincide with the relative (phi, Gamma)-modules constructed by Andreatta and Brinon in the geometric setting where the latter can be constructed. As another application, we establish that the category of pseudocoherent (phi, Gamma)-modules on an arbitrary rigid analytic space over a p-adic field is abelian, satisfies the ascending chain condition, and is stable under various natural derived functors (including Hom, tensor product, and pullback). Applications to the etale cohomology of pro-etale local systems will be given in a subsequent paper.

Abstract:We construct a functor from the category of p-adic etale local systems on a smooth rigid analytic variety X over a p-adic field to the category of vector bundles with an integrable connection over its "base change to B_dR", which can be regarded as a first step towards the sought-after p-adic Riemann-Hilbert correspondence. As a consequence, we obtain the following rigidity theorem for p-adic local systems on a connected rigid analytic variety: if the stalk of such a local system at one point, regarded as a p-adic Galois representation, is de Rham in the sense of Fontaine, then the stalk at every point is de Rham. Along the way, we also establish some basic properties of the p-adic Simpson correspondence. Finally, we give an application of our results to Shimura varieties.

Abstract:We discuss Euler characteristics for finitely generated modules over Iwasawa algebras. We show that the Euler characteristic of a module is well-defined whenever the 0th homology group is finite if and only if the relevant compact p-adic Lie group is finite-by-nilpotent and that in this case all pseudo-null modules have trivial Euler characteristic. We also prove some other results relating to the triviality of Euler characteristics for pseudo-null modules. We also prove some analogous results for the Akashi series of Coates et al.

Abstract:We describe a new approach to relative p-adic Hodge theory based on systematic use of Witt vector constructions and nonarchimedean analytic geometry in the style of both Berkovich and Huber. We give a thorough development of phi-modules over a relative Robba ring associated to a perfect Banach ring of characteristic p, including the relationship between these objects and etale Z_p-local systems and Q_p-local systems on the algebraic and analytic spaces associated to the base ring, and the relationship between etale cohomology and phi-cohomology. We also make a critical link to mixed characteristic by exhibiting an equivalence of tensor categories between the finite etale algebras over an arbitrary perfect Banach algebra over a nontrivially normed complete field of characteristic p and the finite etale algebras over a corresponding Banach Q_p-algebra. This recovers the homeomorphism between the absolute Galois groups of F_p((pi)) and Q_p(mu_p^infty) given by the field of norms construction of Fontaine and Wintenberger, as well as generalizations considered by Andreatta, Brinon, Faltings, Gabber, Ramero, Scholl, and most recently Scholze. Using Huber's formalism of adic spaces and Scholze's formalism of perfectoid spaces, we globalize the constructions to give several descriptions of the etale local systems on analytic spaces over p-adic fields. One of these descriptions uses a relative version of the Fargues-Fontaine curve.

Abstract: Building on foundations introduced in a previous paper, we give several p-adic analytic descriptions of the categories of etale Zp-local systems and etale Qp-local systems on an affinoid algebra over a finite extension of Qp (or more generally, over the fraction field of the Witt vectors of a perfect field of characteristic p). These include generalizations of Fontaine's theory of (phi, Gamma)-modules, the refinement of Fontaine's construction introduced by Cherbonnier and Colmez, and a recent description by Fargues and Fontaine in terms of semistable vector bundles on a certain scheme. Our descriptions depend on the embedding of the associated affinoid space into an affine toric variety, but there are natural functoriality maps relating the constructions for different choices of the embedding; these may be used to give analogous descriptions over more general rigid or Berkovich analytic spaces.

Abstract:Let $(A,\mathfrak{m})$ be an analytically un-ramified Noetherian local ring of dimension $d \geq 1$, $I$ a regular $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideal of $A$ and let $\overline{I}$ be integral closure ideal of $I$. If $A$ is of characteristic $p > 0$ then let $I^*$ denote the tight closure of $I$. Let $G_I(A)=\bigoplus_{n\geq 0}I^n/I^{n+1}$ be the associated graded ring of $A$ with respect to $I$. Assume $G_I(A)$ is unmixed and equi-dimensional. We show that either the function $P_{\overline{I}} :\,n\mapsto \lambda(\overline{I^n}/I^n)$ is a polynomial type of degree $d-1$ or $\overline{I^n}=I^n$ for all $n\geq 1.$ We prove an analogus result for the tight closure filtration if $A$ is of characteristic $p > 0$. When $A$ is generalized Cohen-Macaulay and $I$ is generated by standard system of parameters we give bounds for the first Hilbert coefficients of the integral closure filtration of $I$ and the tight closure filtration of $I$.

Abstract:Abstract In this article, we give a bound for the wild ramification of the monodromy action on the nearby cycles complex of a locally constant étale sheaf on the generic fiber of a smooth scheme over an equal characteristic trait in terms of Abbes and Saito’s logarithmic ramification filtration. This provides a positive answer to the main conjecture in [24] for smooth morphisms in equal characteristic. We also study the ramification along vertical divisors of étale sheaves on relative curves and abelian schemes over a trait.

Abstract:We show Poincaré Duality for $\mathbf{F}_p$-étale cohomology of a smooth proper rigid-analytic space over a non-archimedean field $K$ of mixed characteristic $(0, p)$. It positively answers the question raised by P. Scholze in [Sch13a]. We prove duality via constructing Faltings' trace map relating Poincaré Duality on the generic fiber to (almost) Grothendieck Duality on the mod-$p$ fiber of a formal model. We also formally deduce Poincaré Duality for $\mathbf{Z}/p^n\mathbf{Z}$, $\mathbf{Z}_p$, and $\mathbf{Q}_p$-coefficients.

Abstract:Over any smooth algebraic variety over a p-adic local field k, we construct the de Rham comparison isomorphisms for the étale cohomology with partial compact support of de Rham ℤ_p -local systems, and show that they are compatible with Poincaré duality and with the canonical morphisms among such cohomology. We deduce these results from their analogues for rigid analytic varieties that are Zariski open in some proper smooth rigid analytic varieties over k. In particular, we prove finiteness of étale cohomology with partial compact support of any ℤ_p -local systems, and establish the Poincaré duality for such cohomology after inverting p.

Abstract:A theorem of Paul Roberts states that the integral closure of a regular local ring in a generically abelian extension is Cohen-Macaulay, provided the characteristic of the residue field does not divide the order of the Galois group. An example of Koh shows the conclusion is false in the modular case. After a modification to the statement concerning ramification over $p$ in codimension one, we give an extension of Roberts's theorem to the modular case for unramified regular local rings in mixed characteristic when the $p$-torsion of the Galois group is annihilated by $p$.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a regular scheme over $\textrm{Spec}(\mathbb{Z}[1/p])$ where $p$ is prime. Let $i:Y\to X$ be a closed subscheme of pure codimension $r$. Let $n$ be a natural number prime to $p$. Let $\Lambda$ be a finite $\mathbb{Z}/n$-module over $X$. In this case, the absolute purity conjectured by Grothendieck and proved by Gabber states that \[ Ri^! \Lambda\cong \Lambda_Y(-r)[-2r]\in D_{\textrm{ét}}(Y,\Lambda) \] For the $n=p^m$-case, a dualizing sheaf was proposed by Milne \cite{MilneValuesOfZeta}, namely the logarithmic de Rham-Witt sheaves $\nu_m(r)$. But this doesn't work for all degrees for the étale cohomology. It is however conjectured that this works for the tame cohomology. In this paper we make this work following the proof of Milne in loc. cit. by replacing étale by tame cohomology and assuming resolution of singularities in positive characteristic. We obtain the following isomorphism \[ Ri^! \nu_m(n)\cong \nu_m(n-r)[-r]. \]

Duality for differential modules over complete non-archimedean valuation field of characteristic zero

Abstract:Let $K$ be a complete non-archimedean valuation field of characteristic $0$, with non-trivial valuation, equipped with (possibly multiple) commuting bounded derivations. We prove a decomposition theorem for finite differential modules over $K$, where decompositions regarding the extrinsic subsidiary $\partial$-generic radii of convergence in the sense of Kedlaya-Xiao. Our result is a refinement of a previous decomposition theorem due to Kedlaya and Xiao. As a key step in the proof, we prove a decomposition theorem in a stronger form in the case where $K$ is equipped with a single derivation. To achieve this goal, we construct an object $f_{0*}L_0$ representing the usual dual functor and study some filtrations of $f_{0*}L_0$, which is used to construct the direct summands appearing in our decomposition theorem.

Abstract:For a constructible etale sheaf on a smooth variety of positive characteristic ramified along an effective divisor, the largest slope in Abbes and Saito's ramification theory of the sheaf gives a divisor with rational coefficients called the conductor divisor. In this article, we prove decreasing properties of the conductor divisor after pull-backs. The main ingredient behind is the construction of etale sheaves with pure ramifications. As applications, we first prove a lower semi-continuity property for conductors of etale sheaves on relative curves in the equal characteristic case, which supplement Deligne and Laumon's lower semi-continuity property of Swan conductors and is also an l-adic analogue of Andre's semi-continuity result of Poincare-Katz ranks for meromorphic connections on complex relative curves. Secondly, we give a ramification bound for the nearby cycle complex of an etale sheaf ramified along the special fiber of a regular scheme semi-stable over an equal characteristic henselian trait, which extends a main result in a joint work with Teyssie and answers a conjecture of Leal in a geometric situation.
On the ring of unipotent vector bundles on elliptic curves in positive characteristics

Abstract:Using Fourier-Mukai transformations, we prove some results about the ring of unipotent vector bundles on elliptic curves in positive characteristics. This ring was determined by Atiyah in characteristic zero, who showed that it is a polynomial ring in one variable. It turns out that the situation in characteristic p>0 is completely different and rather bizarre: the ring is nonnoetherian and contains a subring whose spectrum contains infinitely many copies of Spec(Z), which are glued with successively higher and higher infinitesimal identification at the point corresponding to the prime p.

Abstract:For noetherian schemes of finite dimension over a field of characteristic exponent $p$, we study the triangulated categories of $\mathbf{Z}[1/p]$-linear mixed motives obtained from cdh-sheaves with transfers. We prove that these have many of the expected properties. In particular, the formalism of the six operations holds in this context. When we restrict ourselves to regular schemes, we also prove that these categories of motives are equivalent to the more classical triangulated categories of mixed motives constructed in terms of Nisnevich sheaves with transfers. Such a program is achieved by comparing these various triangulated categories of motives with modules over motivic Eilenberg-MacLane spectra.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal K$ be a field of formal Laurent series with coefficients in a finite field of characteristic $p$. For $M\ge 1$, let $\mathcal G_{<p,M}$ be the maximal quotient of the Galois group of $\mathcal K$ of period $p^M$ and nilpotent class $<p$ and $\{\mathcal G_{<p,M}^{(v)}\}_{v\geqslant 0}$ -- the ramification subgroups in upper numbering. Let $\mathcal G_{<p,M}=G(\mathcal L)$ be the identification of nilpotent Artin-Schreier theory: here $G(\mathcal L)$ is the group obtained from a suitable profinite Lie $\mathbb{Z}/p^M$-algebra $\mathcal L$ via the Campbell-Hausdorff composition law. We develop new techniques to obtain a ``geometrical'' construction of the ideals $\mathcal L^{(v)}$ such that $G(\mathcal L^{(v)})=\mathcal G_{<p,M}^{(v)}$. Given $v_0\geqslant 1$, we construct a decreasing central filtration $\mathcal L(w)$, $1\leqslant w\leqslant p$, on $\mathcal L$, an epimorphism of Lie $\mathbb{Z}/p^M$-algebras $\bar{\mathcal V}:\bar{\mathcal L}^{†}\to \bar{\mathcal L}:=\mathcal L/\mathcal L(p)$, and a unipotent action $\Omega $ of $\mathbb{Z} /p^M$ on $\bar{\mathcal L}^{†}$, which induces the identity action on $\bar{\mathcal L}$. Suppose $d\Omega =B^{†}$, where $B^{†}\in\operatorname{Diff}\bar{\mathcal L}^{†}$, and $\bar{\mathcal L}^{†[v_0]}$ is the ideal of $\bar{\mathcal L}^{†}$ generated by the elements of $B^{†}(\bar{\mathcal L}^{†})$. Our main result states that the ramification ideal $\mathcal L^{(v_0)}$ appears as the preimage of the ideal in $\bar{\mathcal L}$ generated by $\bar{\mathcal V}B^{†}(\bar{\mathcal L}^{†[v_0]})$. In the last section we apply this to the explicit construction of generators of $\bar{\mathcal L}^{(v_0)}$. The paper justifies a geometrical origin of ramification subgroups of $\Gamma _K$ and can be used for further developing of non-abelian local class field theory.

Abstract:Given a p-adic representation of the Galois group of a local field, we show that its Galois cohomology can be computed using the associated étale (φ, Γ)-module over the Robba ring; this is a variant of a result of Herr. We then establish analogs, for not necessarily étale (φ, Γ)-modules over the Robba ring, of the Euler–Poincaré characteristic formula and Tate local duality for p-adic representations. These results are expected to intervene in the duality theory for Selmer groups associated to de Rham representations.
