Abstract:A magnetically separable NiFe2O4 nanoparticle catalyst was prepared readily via a simple one-step hydrothermal process. The catalytic performance of this hetero-nanostructure was investigated by Kneovenagel condensation with aldehydes and active methylene compounds under mild conditions. The newly designed catalyst exhibited a prominent catalytic activity with 99.5% conversion, 99% selectivity and excellent yields, which is compatible with various aldehydes and active methylene compounds with good conversion and high selectivity as well. This easily separated hybrid (NiFe2O4), by exerting an external magnetic field, could be recycled for eight times without significant loss, which started a new era for low-cost fabrication of CC bond for extending usage in a large scale, especially in pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry.

Abstract:Knoevenagel condensation of aromatic aldehydes with active methylene compounds such as malononitrile, ethylcyanoacetate, benzimidazol-2-acetonitrile and benzothiazole-2-acetonitrile proceeded very smoothly, catalyzed by nano-Fe3O4 encapsulated-silica particles supported primary amine. Both reaction time and yield are satisfying. The advantages of this catalyst are ease of preparation, non-toxicity, low cost, ease of handling and recyclability.

Abstract:A magnetic nanoparticles-supported chiral aminocyclohexane in combination with sulfamide, which was modified by an imidazolium ionic moiety, was prepared and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), thermal gravimetric (TG) analysis and elementary analysis. The catalyst was successfully applied not only in the enantioselective Michael addition but also in the asymmetric aldol condensation to afford good to excellent yields (70-94%) and satisfactory stereoselectivity (ee: 92-100%, dr: 91:9-99:1).The role of the ionic moiety was verified by comparison of the catalyst with an ionic moiety-free counterpart. The heterogeneous catalyst was easily separated and recovered using external magnetic force and can be used for up to five times without obvious loss in its catalytic activity.

Abstract:Diaryl sulfides are known as valuable intermediates in the production of various useful compounds, including antibacterial, antifungal, anti-ulcer and anti-hypertensive agents. In this paper, we developed a new and ecofriendly nanomagnetic catalyst for the synthesis of diaryl sulfides containing imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine, benzoazole, pyrimidine and oxadiazole scaffolds through C–H bond sulfenylation of imidazopyridines. Fe3O4@AMBA–CuI nanocatalyst was successfully constructed through the immobilization of CuI on the surface of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles modified with 3-amino-4-mercaptobenzoic acid (AMBA). FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM, EDX, TEM, XRD, VSM, EDX elemental mapping and ICP-OES techniques were applied to characterize the structure of the as-fabricated Fe3O4@AMBA–CuI nanocatalyst. Recycling of the Fe3O4@AMBA–CuI nanocatalyst was performed up to eight times without significant loss in activity; VSM and ICP-OES techniques confirmed that the stability and high magnetic nature of recovered catalyst.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:Imidazopyridine and pyranopyrazole derivatives include a very important class of heterocyclic compounds that have many biological properties and have been observed in the structure of many drugs and bioactive molecules. In this research project, we first successfully made copper catalyst immobilized on magnetic iron nanoparticles modified with dopamine and 1 H -benzo[d]imidazole-2-carboxylic acid (as magnetic ligand) and confirmed its structure with a series of spectroscopic techniques; then in the next step, the catalytic activity of this nanocomposite [Fe 3 O 4 @Dop/Amide-BenzImid-CuBr 2 ] was evaluated the nanocomposite in the multicomponent synthesis of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine and pyranopyrazole derivatives. The results clearly showed that this magnetic nanocatalyst in water solvent under reflux conditions is a very efficient catalytic system for the synthesis of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines and pyranopyrazoles because all the products were synthesized with high to excellent yields in a suitable period of time. Also, the recovery tests confirmed that the Fe 3 O 4 @Dop/Amide-BenzImid-CuBr 2 catalyst can be reused up to 8 times without significantly reducing its catalytic efficiency. VSM and ICP-OES analyses confirmed the stability, magnetism and high efficiency of the catalyst after repeated use of the catalyst.

Abstract:Metal-doping graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a potential catalyst for the Fenton-like reaction. Selecting an appropriate supporter for this material is essential to improve its catalytic ability and lower the costs. Three common supporters, graphite, activated carbon, and SBA-15, were employed to investigate their effects on the catalyst structure and performances. Results show that graphite could increase the active Fe N centers due to geometric effects and promote the electron transfer by pi-pi stacking, and therefore, the Fe-doping g-C3N4/graphite (FegN/G) composite displayed excellent catalytic ability for the bisphenol A (BPA) removal. In addition, magnetic catalyst was further fabricated through a simple coprecipitation method using Fe3O4 and chitosan-Fe hydrogel. The magnetic catalyst kept in dozens of micrometer size range as well as high activity for the Fenton reaction. Hydroxyl radicals were generated during the reaction process, and 99.9% of the original BPA was therefore degraded and mineralized in 1 h. More importantly, it also exhibits a good reusability and stability, as well as a quick separation performance from the solution when using a magnet, indicating that this magnetic FegN/G composite would be a promising Fenton-like catalyst in practical applications.

Abstract:Magnetic core–shell nanomaterial Fe 3 O 4 –SiO 2 –Cu 2 O/Cu was first successfully synthesized using an economical strategy. Using Fe 3 O 4 as a magnetic center for easy recycling and SiO 2 as the connecting layer, Cu elements were evenly and steadily distributed on the surface of the Fe 3 O 4 –SiO 2 –Cu 2 O/Cu core–shell nanostructure. The magnetic catalyst performed outstanding catalytic reduction activity for 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), and the complete catalytic reduction of 4-NP was achieved within only 5 min. What's more, the catalyst could be well recycled, and the catalytic efficiency remained more than 90% after being reused 24 times.

Abstract:A green procedure for the one-pot three-component synthesis of 1-amidoalkyl-2-naphthol and 3-amino-1-phenyl-1H benzo[f]chromene-2-carbonitrile derivatives from the reaction of 2-naphtol, aldehydes, and malononitrile/acetamide in the presence of a catalytic amount of Fe3O4@enamine-B(OSO3H)(2) as an efficient and novel heterogeneous magnetic nanostructure catalyst is described. The catalyst was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). These strategies possess some merits such as simple work-up method, easy preparation of the catalyst, short reaction times, good-to-high yields, and non-use of hazardous solvents during all steps of the reactions. Moreover, due to the magnetic nature of the catalyst, it was readily recovered by magnetic decantation and can be recycled at least six runs with no considerable decrease in catalytic activity.

Abstract:A nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) complex of Cu(ii) supported on silica-coated nanosized magnetite Fe3O4@SiO2-Pr-DEA-[NTA-Cu(ii)]2 was prepared as a new well-defined magnetically separable nanomaterial and fully characterized via IR, XRD, FESEM, TEM, TGA, DLS, BET, VSM, solid-state UV-vis spectroscopy, EDX, ICP-OES, and FESEM-EDX map analyses. Thereafter, it was successfully applied as a new easily magnetically separable and reusable heterogeneous nanocatalyst for the Buchwald-Hartwig C-N bond formation reaction in DMF at 110 °C. Using this method, various kinds of nitrogen heterocycles, such as imidazoles, 2-methyl-1H-imidazole, benzimidazole, indole, and 10H-phenothiazine as well as aliphatic secondary amines such as piperidine, piperazine, morpholine, dimethylamine, and diethylamine, were reacted with aryl halide compounds, and the desired products were obtained with good to excellent yields. In all cases, the applied catalyst could be recovered easily and rapidly using an external magnet and reused 7 times without significant loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract:Abstract: The Fe (III)-Cu (II) binary oxide magnetic nanocatalyst emerges as an environmentally friendly and highly efficient solid acid catalyst, demonstrating remarkable utility in the one-pot synthesis of 2, 4, 5-trisubstituted imidazole and 1,4-dihydropyridine compounds, all achieved under solvent-free conditions. A facile co-precipitation method was used to synthesize nanostructured Fe-Cu binary oxide. Notably, this Fe-Cu binary oxide magnetic nanocatalyst proves its eco-friendly credentials as an exceptionally efficient and reusable catalyst, offering ease of handling, recovery, and multiple uses with minimal reactivity loss. Furthermore, the Fe (III)-Cu (II) binary oxide magnetic nanocatalyst's magnetic separability enhances its practicality, allowing for effortless catalyst retrieval after reactions. Significantly, the structural characteristics are meticulously elucidated through advanced analytical techniques, including 1 H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. This work presents a versatile and sustainable solution for catalysis, with wide-reaching implications for green chemistry and the development of reusable, efficient catalysts for organic synthesis. The exceptional performance and eco-friendliness of the Fe-Cu binary oxide magnetic nanocatalyst underscore its practical significance. Fe-Cu binary oxide magnetic nanocatalyst exhibits the highest catalytic activity compared to others. The employment of this catalyst consistently delivers excellent yields in the target reactions, highlighting its potential to contribute positively to sustainable chemical processes.

Abstract:In this study, a series of Fe-based materials are facilely synthesized using MIL-88A and melamine as precursors. Changing the mass ratio of melamine and MIL-88A could tune the coating layers of generated zero-valent iron (Fe0) particles from Fe3C to Fe3N facilely. Compared to Fe/Fe3N@NC sample, Fe/Fe3C@NC exhibits better catalytic activity and stability to degrade carbamazepine (CBZ) with peroxymonosulfate (PMS) as oxidant. Free radical quenching tests, open-circuit potential (OCP) test and electron paramagnetic resonance spectra (EPR) prove that hydroxyl radicals (OH) and superoxide radical (O2-) are dominant reactive oxygen species (ROSs) with Fe/Fe3C@NC sample. For Fe/Fe3N@NC sample, the main ROSs are changed into sulfate radicals (SO4-) and high valent iron-oxo (Fe (IV)=O) species. In addition, the better conductivity of Fe3C is beneficial for the electron transfer from Fe0 to the Fe3C, thus could keep the activity of the surface sites and obtain better stability. DFT calculation reveals the better adsorption and activation ability of Fe3C than Fe3N. Moreover, PMS can also be adsorbed on the Fe sites of Fe3N with shorter FeO bonds and longer SO bonds than on Fe3C, the Fe (IV)=O is thus present in the Fe/Fe3N@NC/PMS system. This study provides a novel strategy for the development of highly active Fe-based materials for Fenton-like reactions and thus could promote their real application.

Abstract:During the last decade, research on the preparation of nano-catalysts, especially magnetic nano-catalysts, and their application in chemical reactions has become an attractive topic in organic synthesis. Nitriles are valuable compounds that are important in industrial, biological, and pharmaceutical processes. On the other hand, tetrazoles are heterocyclic compounds that have valuable pharmacological and biological properties. Therefore, developing new, environmentally friendly, and efficient catalytic systems for synthesizing nitriles and tetrazoles is needed. In this research work, we successfully fabricated Pd (0) complex immobilized on Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles modified with 3-amino-2-(aminomethyl)propanoic acid and imidazole [Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -AAPA/Imid-Pd(0)] and investigated its catalytic activity in the preparation of aryl nitriles and 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles from aryl iodides. In this attractive methodology, we first prepared different aryl nitrile derivatives from the cyanation of aryl halides and then prepared a broad range of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles through the condensation of the as-prepared aryl nitriles with sodium azide. The experimental results revealed that this catalyst could be reused for more than 8 consecutive runs without losing activity. Among the outstanding features of this method for the synthesis of aryl nitriles and tetrazoles, the following can be mentioned: the synthesis of products with high yields in suitable times, performing the reactions in an environmentally friendly solvent, the applicability of the method for a wide range from the substrates, easy separation of the Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -AAPA/Imid-Pd(0) catalyst from the reaction mixture and high reusability of the catalyst.

Abstract:Recently, nanosized ferrites with spinel structure have been actively discussed as possible magnetically controlled catalysts, sorbents, and biomedical materials. For the large-scale practical use of ferrites, it is necessary to find simple, reproducible, and cost-effective methods that allow one to control the characteristics of nanosized ferrites with spinel structure to obtain samples with a large number of active centers for catalysis and sorption, low toxicity for biomedical applications, and good magnetic properties required to control such materials by an external magnetic field. This review summarizes the results of scientific studies (predominantly over the last 5–10 years) focused on different methods of synthesis of nanosized ferrites with spinel structure and composite materials, and considers approaches to control their catalytic, sorption, and magnetic characteristics and prospects of their application as magnetically sensitive catalysts (Fenton-like processes), sorbents (extraction of heavy metals, separation of ions, separation of valuable metals), and materials for drug delivery, hyperthermia, and MRI contrast.

Abstract:A novel magnetically separable core/shell type nanocomposite was synthesized in a facile way and characterized by XRD, UV–Vis, FT-IR, TEM, nitrogen physisorption and magnetite susceptibility measurements. In the synthesis procedure, the mesoporous silica shell was coating on the surface of magnetic core directly via a nano-assembling method. After calcination at high temperature (550°C) for template removal, the spinel phase of maghemite core was retained without any transformation. The resulting material possessed a regularly hexagonal mesoporous structure with a high specific surface area (908.70m2/g), which were favorable to further functional modification. Once incorporated with iron species by in situ synthesis, the nanocomposite could serve as a Fenton catalyst and was effective in phenol degradation at the given conditions (40°C, pH=4). At the end of the reaction, it was easily collected by an external magnetic field and remained efficient in reuse.
