Abstract:In this paper, an experiment has been made to take vibration and surface waviness of two kinds of engineering ceramics ( zirconia ceramics and alumina ceramics) as research targets. The experimental research results show that two kinds of surface waviness are on the workpiece, one is sparse and the other one is dense. It is known that the sparse one is caused by the forced vibration. In order to find out the generation mechanism of the dense one, a further exploration has been made. It shows that the dense surface waviness is caused by the self-excited vibration. Finally, some methods are put forward to reduce the surface waviness.

Abstract:As a type of Chinese folk art, jianzhi paper carving expresses not only people's spiritual life, but also their aspirations for a better life. Chinese paper carving art is filled with simple life wisdom and good wishes, and the figurative symbols contain unique artistic value and national traits. However, in today's multifaceted development, the traditional art of paper carving with a thousand years of history is gradually fading away. Traditional folk art represented by paper cutting has also begun to be introduced into new fields, not only in graphic design, but also in installation design of public spaces, showing its rich expressiveness and deep artistic value. This paper will examine the characteristics of traditional national paper carving, highlight cultural differences between Eastern and Western paper carving art, combine traditional folk art of paper carving with modern artistic expressions, analyse symbolic and emotional imagery and explore new ideas for the development and innovation of Chinese national art.

Abstract:With the increasing prosperity of tourism, the corresponding market demand for tourist souvenirs increases. From the perspective of intangible cultural heritage, this paper takes the wood carving, one of the three carvings in “Huizhou” as an example to explore the cultural and creative artistic value of wood carving tourism. As wood carving is an important embodiment of the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional culture, its artistic form and characteristics provide rich design elements for design, and has the most artistic expression and industrial prospect, the academic circles explore its creative ideas and carving patterns from wood carving, so as to obtain new artistic inspiration. Abstract:Optimizing production processes to conserve resources and reduce waste has become crucial in pursuing sustainable manufacturing practices. The solid wood panel industry, marked by substantial raw materials and energy consumption, stands at the forefront of addressing this challenge. This research delves into production scheduling and equipment utilization inefficiencies, offering innovative solutions for the solid wood panel processing line aimed at achieving environmental sustainability and operational efficiency. The study is articulated through two main segments: (1) an exhaustive analysis and the development of a simulation system for the solid wood panel processing line, delineating all production elements and operational logic, furnished with a user-friendly simulation interface, and (2) a comprehensive evaluation and enhancement of various scheduling algorithms specific to the Flexible Job-Shop Scheduling Problem (FJSP) encountered in solid wood panel workshops. A significant leap forward is made with the introduction of the Adaptive Intelligent Optimization Genetic Algorithm (AIOGA), an evolved version of the standard Genetic Algorithm (GA) engineered for optimal scheduling within the solid wood panel processing line. AIOGA incorporates advanced features such as encoding strategy, population initialization, objective function setting, selection strategy, crossover operation, and mutation operation, demonstrating the methodological depth of the study. We applied AIOGA in a designed FJSP, and AIOGA substantially reduced the maximum completion time to 90 min. It evidenced an improvement of 39.60% over the conventional GA, enhancing the equilibrium of the equipment workload across the system. This research presents a multifaceted strategy to address the scheduling complications inherent in solid wood panel production and highlights the extensive applicability of adaptive intelligent optimization in diverse industrial settings. This study establishes a new paradigm in manufacturing optimization, underlining the valuable integration of sustainability and efficiency in production methodologies.

Abstract:Within the framework of sustainable development and technological advancement, 3D printing has emerged as a novel trend in industrial manufacturing. Traditional wood usage presents significant challenges, including high resource consumption, low production efficiency, and environmental pollution. This study explores the application of 3D printing technology in wooden art and furniture products, which supports complex designs, allows rapid prototyping, and small-batch production, thereby significantly reducing material waste. The research methodology includes design concept and model creation, material selection and processing, optimization of the printing process, and post-processing and refinement. The key findings suggest that 3D printing can utilize recycled wood, reduce costs, and enhance material utilization, supporting environmental sustainability. This study highlights the unique value of 3D printing in enhancing production efficiency, environmental friendliness, and cultural modernization.

Abstract:YangJiaBu new year woodcut prints are the first batch of intangible cultural heritage in China. Increasing emphasis on the sustainable development of traditional culture in the national cultural strategy has created new opportunities for the revitalization of Chinese traditional culture. With the rapid change of information globalization and economy, the sustainable development and inheritance of folk culture are gradually uncovered, necessitating the urgent need to combine innovation and application of technical materials; concurrently, cultural design has endowed traditional culture with new concepts and techniques. This study focuses on the cultural sustainability of YangJiaBu new year woodcut prints, as well as the possibility of incorporating them into daily design. Understand cultural phenomena and classify cultural design resources in depth by analysing historical context and resources. Using the literature research method and undertaking a VRIO method analysis (a technology that identifies and enhances sustainable core competitiveness based on internal valuable, rarity, inimitable, and organization), This study aims to examine the innovative potential of YangJiaBu new year woodcut prints in the design of daily products. The results will reveal the opportunities and constraints of YangJiaBu new year woodcut prints in contemporary design. These findings will aid in the theoretical understanding of the sustainable development of traditional folk culture, serve as a guide for researchers, and contribute creative sources for contemporary design, thereby enhancing the future cultural protection and culture of China's intangible cultural heritage. Abstract:<p>As an abundant natural resource, wood has gained great attention for thousands of years, spanning from the primitive construction materials to the modern high-added-value engineering materials. The unique delicate microstructures and the wonderful properties (e.g., low-density, high strength and stiffness, good toughness, and environmental sustainability) have made wood a natural source of inspiration that guides researchers to invent various wood-inspired materials. Herein, as an emerging material system, bioinspired artificial wood, with similar cellular structures and comparable mechanical properties, is discussed in the view of the design concept, fabrication strategy, properties, and possible applications. The present challenges and further research opportunities are also presented for artificial woods to thrive. To achieve the final eco-friendly artificial wood, more endeavors should be made in biomaterials and biodegradable or recyclable engineering of polymers to gain high mechanical properties and environmental sustainability simultaneously.</p>

Abstract:The traditional perforated boneless lantern craft is a three-dimensional (3D) lamp fabrication method in which paper sheets are folded without any skeleton, and often accompanied by hole-like patterns. It has been extensively applied throughout history using various means and is favored because of its low cost and environmental friendliness. However, the traditional craft requires a complicated manual production process and accumulated craft expertise, which limits its aesthetics and daily use-value. We propose a computer-aided design method to customize a 3D lamp with decorative patterns from paper pieces. The key idea is to establish an automatic workflow for producing 3D objects with visual information that is similar to the lantern tradition but without overloaded manual efforts. Our user tests and results demonstrate the potential for DIY everyday interfaces for creating personalized aesthetics, enhancing the visualization of information, and promoting multi-person handicraft activity.

Abstract:Wood is an abundant, intrinsically renewable natural resource, with over three trillion mature trees on Earth that serve as an important carbon sink during growth. These features when combined with new technologies and processing techniques have endowed wood with rich, emerging functionality that make it a natural material choice toward sustainability. Around 300 million years of tree evolution has yielded over 60 000 woody species, each of which is an engineering masterpiece of nature. Evolution has led to wood's unique hierarchically porous structure, with cell walls primarily composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, which can support trees 300 feet tall while also providing efficient water and nutrient transport. This lignocellulosic structure offers an intriguing material platform for diverse functionalization and applications. Recent research breakthroughs around the world epitomize the tremendous yet largely unexplored potential of such advanced wood-based functional materials—a paradigm shift from the conventional use of wood in furniture and building construction. Many efforts have been dedicated to tailoring wood's composition and structure at multiple length scales to impart new functionality and synthesize novel bio-based functional composites, which are explored in this special issue of <i>Advanced Materials</i>.

Abstract:In the process of the “green revolution”, individuals have realized the importance of recycling waste materials. However, with ongoing individual changes in lifestyle, the huge resource of discarded wooden furniture is still considerably underutilized. This paper aims to provide new ideas for the recycling of discarded wooden furniture and to create added value to used furniture. Based on the summarization of existing recycling technology and methods, the diversified innovation and reuse of discarded wooden furniture integrating the current aesthetic and demand of people from multiple aspects are analyzed for the purpose of revealing the hidden value of waste materials. Waste recycling is of great importance to the country and enterprises in line with the concept of circular economy. For the sake of further excavating the hidden value of discarded wooden furniture products, the additional in-depth research in optimizing and upgrading green production and manufacturing in furniture industry is called for in the paper.

Use-wear Experimental Studies for Differentiating Flint Tools Processing Bamboo from Wood

Abstract:Bamboo is widespread in south China and is one of the major organic resources in daily use through history due to its similar potential use value as wood. Due to the unfavourable preservation conditions and taphonomic alteration, the rare discovery of well-preserved organic remains from Palaeolithic sites means there is a lack of direct studies on the technology and behaviour of early prehistoric humans. Use-wear analysis has been proved as a reliable method to detect evidence left by working wood and bamboo on stone artefacts. This study aims to provide an experimental reference of use-wear features and patterns to identify and interpret the exploration of bamboo and wood resources in prehistory. In this experiment, 12 flint flakes were selected for processing bamboo stems and pine branches with working motions of whittling, sawing, and chopping. The results show that the use-wear features, including edge scarring, edge rounding, and polish, of bamboo-working and wood-working are distinctive. Edge scarring is closely related to the working motion, and moderate bright to very bright polish is a significant feature associated with bamboo-working. It is possible to distinguish wear traces caused by bamboo-working from those by wood-processing through a combination of low-power and high-power techniques under a 3D digital microscope.

Abstract:Wood materials are being reinvented to carry superior properties for a variety of new applications. Cutting-edge nanomanufacturing transforms traditional bulky and low-value woods into advanced materials that have desired structures, durability, and functions to replace nonrenewable plastics, polymers, and metals. Here, a first prospect report on how novel nanowood materials have been developed and applied in water and associated industries is provided, wherein their unique features and promises are discussed. First, the unique hierarchical structure and associated properties of the material are introduced, and then how such features can be harnessed and modified by either bottom-up or top-down manufacturing to enable different functions for water filtration, chemical adsorption and catalysis, energy and resource recovery, as well as energy-efficient desalination and environmental cleanup are discussed. The study recognizes that this is a nascent but very promising field; therefore, insights are offered to encourage more research and development. Trees harness solar energy and CO2 and provide abundant carbon-negative materials. Once harvested and utilized, it is believed that advanced wood materials will play a vital role in enabling a circular water economy.

Abstract:With the continuous development of science and technology, the research on the protection and inheritance of Northeast folk handicrafts is also constantly innovating and developing. These studies not only innovate and broaden the existence of Northeast folk handicrafts, but also attract more and more people to pay attention to and understand the Northeast folk handicraft. Augmented reality and virtual reality technologies (ARVR for short), as today's cutting-edge technologies, are also used in the restoration of historical sites and the protection of digital cultural heritage. At the same time, modern scientific and technological civilization has brought new crafts and new materials to the traditional development, and has brought the possibility of expansion. In an era when challenges and opportunities coexist, Northeast folk handicrafts must seize the opportunity to get out of the predicament. The purpose of this article is to design an interactive platform for the inheritance and development of Northeast folk handicrafts based on VR. This article analyzes the four aspects of research time, research author, research institution, and research keywords. It understands the current main research forces of folk crafts in Northeast China and the cooperation status between the research forces, and interprets the inheritance of folk crafts in Northeast China based on the knowledge map. The status quo. According to the survey, the media has the greatest influence, accounting for 65.1%; followed by friend promotion and museum exhibitions, accounting for 35.6% and 38% respectively; people who actively learn about themselves through their hobbies and interests account for the least, accounting for only 13.6%, with passive acceptance as the Lord.
