Synthesis and Characterizatoin of New Quaternary Ammonium Gemini Surfactants

Abstract:Two series of quaternary ammonium Gemini surfactants containing hydroxyl and methylene in the space group are synthesized (denoted as C12-3(OH)-C12·2Cl and C12-4(OH)-C12·2Cl). Their structures are testified using IR,1HNNR and EA. The optimum reaction conditions are obtained as follows. With n(C12H25N(CH3)2):n(C12H25N(CH3)2 ·HCl):n(epichlorohydrin) =2.0:1.0=1.0, n-propanol as solvent and refluxing for 3 h,the yield of C12-3(OH)-C12·2Cl is 94. 5%. With n(C12 H25N(CH3)2) :n( 1,4-dichloro-2-butanol) =2.2:1. 0,n-propanol as solvent and refluxing for 24 h,the yield of C12-4(OH)-C12·2Cl is 70%.
